Creativity from set piece has so much to do with the quality of forward you have and other players who can jump to nod in. Anold has 5 Assists from set plays, 2 from crossing. That is 7 over 9. Robertson has 3 from crossing. That is 3 over 6 already. If they played in United, Maguire, Martial, Rashford, James, etc will be wasting those chances. Mane, Salah and Ferminho are a confusion to defenders. |
izzou:All those chances were mostly created by the forwards, the defenders and the goalkeeper. Out of their 14 chances, midfield created 2. Salah 3 Ferminho 3 Anold 2 Mane 2 Alisson 1 Robertson 1 Hendenson 1 Wijnaldum 1 |
patrickmuf:What I said from day one is that Liverpool midfield is their weakest link. I dont know when you heard me say their defence is weak. |
Meanwhile look at how fit Salah's body is. I can guess some United players have not even two abs ![]() Hard work pays. |
This is why I don't blame Woodward and Ole because I know they must be facing big challenges. But fans sitting in the room taking odeku would be thinking things are easy. Just like in a work place you use to blame those at the helms of affairs taking decisions that affect business, ..... until it gets to your turn |
Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson met with Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly last summer to discuss a move to Old Trafford, according to stunning reports in Italy. The Senegal international has been on United’s radar for a number of years and was wanted by Jose Mourinho as far back as 2017. United signed Harry Maguire in a deal worth £80m last summer that saw the England international become the most expensive defender of all-time. However, Foot Mercato claim that Koulibaly was United’s first choice and Ferguson was dispatched to speak to the defender in order to persuade him to move to the Theatre of Dreams. https://www.google.com/amp/s/metro.co.uk/2020/01/18/ole-gunnar-solskjaer-sent-sir-alex-ferguson-speak-manchester-united-target-kalidou-koulibaly-12079715/amp/ |
Twitter Reacts To Fred’s Dominating Midfield Performance vs Liverpool http://www.blamefootball.com/2020/01/20/twitter-reacts-to-freds-dominating-midfield-performance-vs-liverpool/ |
Distance covered per 90 minutes by midfield players last season Fred 11.76 McTominay 11.75 Matic 11.52 Hendenson 11.46 Keita 11.20 Wijnaidum 10.95 Pogba 10.43 Pogba's time is too poor. He has to work harder. |
Lana1:We are yet to gain proper understanding and cohesion in our play. There is no superman yet in the team to instill fear in opposition defence. Did you see how Ferminho is the least skillful among the forward Liverpool players was breaking our defnders. Even Martial cannot do that. Salah and Mane without the ball make defence panic. This gives other players room to shine. One superman in United, everything could change. Plus understanding of playing together for a long time. |
If I did not come to this thread today, in few weeks when this match is referenced, they would have told me that I do not watch football that the midfield is our problem. Even without McTominay, the midfield gave a good account of itself. The only player better than Fred today was Dijk. In the United team, Matic is among the top four. And for the stats, Fred carried everything on his head. Even having the highest number of passes in the game just behind Dijk. If I don't come here again for a long time, do not say I no dey wtach ball. |
diggz:The highlighted is just an agenda to prove that the midfield is the problem of United. |
patrickmuf:Truth is bitter, particularly when it is not the popular view. |
ManBeast:And we had a Smalling who made these kind of clearances look easy. We abused him week after week. If he chased Salah from the halfline, he would catch up. |
patrickmuf:It was a normal ball to save jor. DDG suppose to even save the first goal. I am sure Romero would have punched the ball over the bar. But we missed what is called a big chance and then an empty net. |
patrickmuf:You mean those offisides and foul on DDG? The chances missed by Perreira and Martial were the clearest chances in the match |
This is not about stats, everyone saw what Fred played. This is same Izzou who was trying to put the blame of our defeat on midfield. The blame was defence and formation. Our central midfielders can be exonerated for today's loss because our forward players missed chances. We had the first opportunity to create a big chance and score. We had more chances to equalize. |
izzou:They are simply not creative. No coach would have given Xavi or Lampard defensive duties. Our midfield is better. Push Fred and McTominay to play behind Mane, Salah, Ferminho and protected by the Liverpool defence and you would see real midfield. izzou:That is because they play three in the middle. izzou:You are only trying to justify your stance only because Liverpool won. If we converted our chances, you will not be praising Hendenson and co for being backmen. They were lucky we didnt have Rashford |
izzou:Also, without stats, Fred was the best midfielder in the two teams today. He was even playing in an inferior team with two man midfield. |
izzou:We played only two CMs and Matic was still one of our better players today. Remember, my argument was that our midfielders rated higher than Liverpool on individual basis. I put McTomonay as the best in the two teams (excluding Keita who has played too few minutes). Fred still one of the best in the combined midfield. |
izzou:My argument stands, nothing special in Liverpool midfield. Mostly as I said, our midfield is more creative. Even the defence today, Fred tried. Highest tackle for United Fred 3 Highest interception for United Fred 4 Highest dribble for United Fred 3 Highest chances created for United Fred and Bissaka 2 One of the only four players to get a shot on target Fred had zero unsucessful touch and only one dispossession. As for Liverpool, Hendenson had 5 tackles and zero interception which is their highest. So don't say anyhting like he did better difensively than Fred. And Fred beat him in the attacking stats |
Fred don turn Xavi o See turning |
patrickmuf:Sometimes small teams surprise even Barca, Madrid and Juventus |
patrickmuf:And we are playing against one of the best teams in the world. I was not expecting us to dominate. But a win is always possible |
Fred and Matic are among our best players today |
We have had our own chances to score. |
patrickmuf:They also had their own world class players like Gerrard, Alonxo, Torres, etc. But we showed City respect under SAF. |
olabode89:How many times has he played there before? Ole tactics did not work today |
patrickmuf:They are a superior team by attack and defence are weakened by non availability fo Rashford and McTominay to counter their fast play. The fact still remain that the front three is their asset. They are very dangerous and so can confuse any defence. Most importantly, a full back has again added to his creativity stat because he has a player who can nod in a set piece. |
olabode89:Yes he has done well bringing that control and calmness when we have the ball. But without the ball is the problem. |
izzou:The case might have been different if we played McTominay to match the pace of the match instead of Matic. Secondly if we played Rashford to stretch the defence. Thirdly if we also played three in midfield. Fourhtly, if we played a formation that the players are used to. Bissaka and William at wingbacks are two inexperienced people for that role. Remember too we could have gotten the first goal with a perfect pass from Matic to James, but James and Matial connection was very poor. Martial could pace as Rashford would do to enable James square at first time. I guess too you are aware the goal came from a fault of the defence. And something told me that Romero could have gotten a punch on that ball. |
olabode89:He is being played as a wingback. He doesn't have a full duty to fill the full back. May be tactics failing United because we have two guys playing in the wingback probably the first time in their life, or at least against a big team |
Lana1:But it was Maguire who should have cleared that goal. He and DDG are having a bad day. Lindelof was saved by VAR |
