Screenshot 1: Valencia provided Assist in front of the box. Goal 2-1
Screenshot 2: Valencia exchanged passes with Pogba for a long range shot. score remains 2-1
Screenshot 3: Valencia pull back a pass for Pogba. The keeper made a great save from Pogba's shot. Score remains 2-1, then Valencia substituted out.
Will anyone see Valencia in these positions and still insists Valencia didn’t attack?

MRTA7: Exactly, nothing to be said for the poor quality of the chances created just that a chance has been created. The worst way to watch football is with numbers. Most of the time stats still win. It is not by chance that such players like Messi, Silva, etc create the highest chances almost every season. Last night, Valencia who created most chances eventually provided our first goal. |

eph12: Hmmm seems our idea of what creating chances or playing really well means are totally different. That's where the issue is, no wahala Chances created can be measured statistically. That is how many times you make an attempt as a team. Valencia had an Assist (a clever one) and created the most chances in the match. What else do you want? Truly before they left the pitch, we already held Palace around their half and final third. The introduction of Mata made the play more fluid with short passes. Palace were playing deeper and deeper, then we had more small players with Mata and Shaw on a small pitch. It was easier for us to pass because running was no longer needed. If Mata started the match, we could have played better from the start because our poor passing was the major weakness from the start. |

patrickmuf: Ashley Young had Sanchez who was drifted infield almost every time, he had even more space to run into... Shaw had Rashford so, his forays were restricted yet he was almost always in the Palace half swooping danger and making sure we had one more body to play through on the left. Even when Rashford came on, Young was still trying to go behind the defence line or cut infield to make a cross. Young has high mibility, the reason I said he may have been fatigued from many matches. Same with Val. |

Valencia was always in attacking positions, same with Young. Then we scored 2-1 Young was on yellow and may have been fatigued, the coach changed it. Valencia may also have been fatigued and Mourinho would need someone to attack more. A kind of a risk taking. It paid off, but it could have backfired if not for DDG. |

patrickmuf: Against Chelsea we lacked the width that comes with natural fullbacks. Every top teams has a full back who bombs forward to deliver crosses, create channels to evade congested Midfield or press. At Bayern, you have Alaba and Kimmich At Juventus, Alex Sandro At Barcelona, Alba and Roberto At City, Zichenko and Walker At Pool, Robertson and Clyne before his injury woes At Chelsea, Alonso At Spurs, Ben Davies and Aurier.
They all press high up the pitch, serve as channels to open up the play and contribute in delivering crosses. The mistake you are making especially as it concern Valencia is looking at crosses/chances created and ignoring all the other parameters. When Moyes was here, the complain about Valencia was that he went forward too much, that a defender's primary duty was to defend. That was why many were happy with the purchase of Darmian. Valencia still represent that guy most of our players give passes to every time. Most passes from Rooney, Pogba, and even Sanchez go to Valencia and he does well connecting them. The problem today was that because of the rain in the first half, the ball moved faster. The passers should have been more careful. Even in the midfield, we were missing passes. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 2:11am On Mar 06, 2018 |
patrickmuf: We are not complaining just because we want more crosses into the box, the role of a fullback when you play with two inverted wingers goes way beyond putting crosses into the box, they help in retaining possession by creating a channel for the midfielders out wide, they also complement the pressing done by the forwards. During the game, each time the midfielders looked out wide especially when the center was crowded out, Valencia was close to the center of the pitch as was Young except in one or two scenarios where he wasn't utilized prolly because the lads got fed up that he kept on losing possession. The commentators were also very vocal in their assertion that we needed more width to breakdown Palace and it's no surprise that it changed with Rashford, Shaw and a Lingard who was surprisingly more in sync with our midfielders than Valencia. Val tho should continue on the right against Liverpool but Shaw has to be trusted by Mou against Salah who is definitely gonna leave Young for dead with his pace. All these dont hold ground because you are talking about the player who created the most chances in the game. All his chances came from passing. |

Valencia had the highest number of chances created in the match for both teams. He created 4 chances. The next people are those who created 2 chances - Mata and Soloth.
Against Chelsea we were poor first half and parked the bus. In the second half, we played more in Chelsea's half and won. Did we substitute Valencia and Young? It is just the pattern of our play.
Valencia and Young also need rest at intervals because they work the hardest in the team covering so much ground with speed.

patrickmuf: Elampiro, shouldn't our full backs be more adventurous when we are playing a 3 man midfield especially with 2 of the 3 being more defensively conscious I.e. Matic and McTonimay? Let's take Madrid for an instance, at Madrid, with Casmeiro and Kross, Marcelo and Carvajal are licensed to join the attack at every chance because of the midfield cover, when is it different here, quite simply put, the personnel or probably the methods. With Rashford and Mata on, if your theory held sway, our full backs should have been more cautious since we had Rashford on the left, Sanchez through the middle, Mata on the right and Pogba joining the attack often but no, we saw our fullbacks higher up the pitch even when they were expected to be a tad cautious and that resulted in us recovering the ball quicker in more dangerous positions. The obvious difference is the change in personnel manning the fullback positions in question and not the fact we were couple of goal down cos with Young and Val we were a goal down and at later two goals down but not much changed (don't mention Valencia's assist cos we went up the pitch for a corner and not necessarily because he forayed forward). When scores are at 0-0, Mourinho's team seat deep. Even when Shaw has started games. Valencia has always been the most adventurous. Trailing 0-1, there was always the fear not to concede a second. As soon as Rashford came on, we were attacking better, but the second goal we conceded meant we went all out because there was nothing to lose again. Valencia have an Assists, he also played more balls into the box from the final third. |

chidexxy007: Oga, no need for the back and forth. He made a good assist which i praised but those passes seemed misplaced because Val's position as a RB when his team were attacking was poor. Maybe i missed something, which of his crosses in this game did they waste biko. JM saw his full backs were very very poor and changed them suddenly the team started playing better and pressing from the front.. Elampiro, was that a coincidence? Those passes were bad, too much. Valencia connects the most difficult passes, if he could not, no one else would be able. We played better when Rashford came in. Before Valencia and Young left, we were creating chances and pressing for goals |

chidexxy007: Mou changed to a 3 at the back system. @bolded, quite true, no be small headache i get because of Val and Young today.. how will a right back in modern football be positioned same line with his CBs or even back when his team is attacking knowing fully well that there wasnt any winger in front of him, good cross though for the first goal but we seriously need modern fullbacks. I guess Elamps meant Young picked up better attacking positions than Val but his defending was diabolical to say the least.
Good win tonight though, better coming from 2goals down. Valencia Assisted Smalling's goal. How was he not adventurous? They also wasted some of his other crosses. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 12:58am On Mar 06, 2018 |
patrickmuf: The truth is Valencia didn't give them a chance with his positioning and I didn't in anyway mean that Lingard is better at RB, he just interpreted the role better with his positioning for the pass each time the midfielders had the ball.
It is criminal for a full back to be pegged on the same line with the CBs, at least not when you're chasing a game. They didn't play same role and not same formation. Rashford for McTominay meant we played more men forward and we attacked better from when Rashford came on. Lingard didn't play the traditional right back. He played more like a wing back. Towards the end, at 1-2 we had nothing more to lose, hence we threw men forward. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 12:47am On Mar 06, 2018 |
patrickmuf: It isn't rocket science that we looked much more comfortable with Shaw on the left and Lingard at RB. To be honest a lot of those passes from Pogba and Sanchez into the channel on the right that seemed like misplaced passes where only so due to the fact that Valencia wasn't adventurous enough, it was almost the same scenario on the left where Young who Elampiro thinks was our only attacking outlet in the first half, was atrocious today. At some point, the players began ignoring Young even when he was in good position because he had killed enough attacks. Against teams like Palace, we should be more daring and even though we triumphed today, we may not always be this lucky. We need to set out to kill rather than contain. Those passes were over hit. The ball slip fast on the grass because it was rainy. If you think Lingard is better than Valencia in that position, you must be a joke. We were playing really well before Valencia and Young were substituted. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 11:48pm On Mar 05, 2018 |
We gained the upper hand with Smalling's goal. Mourinho was right to have played three at the back to focus on attacking play. He brought in small players which helped our short passing in the small pitch. In the first half I felt Mata should be introduced at half time to help in short passes around the physical Palace players.
Shaw and Lingard in wing back was cool. Valencia and Young are big and they appeared fatigued. Young was our only attacking threat in the first half but we were generally poor.
Good result, we are sure of top four now.

baralatie: Nigeria’s total domestic and foreign debt stocks as at June 30 stood at about $15.1 billion and N14.1 trillion respectively, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday. A review of the total foreign debt profile of the Federal and the 36 states governments and the FCT also shows a continuous rise since the coming of the present administration, from $10.718 billion in 2015, to $11.406 billion in 2016 and $15.047 billion in 2017. Out of the current total figure of $15.047 billion, the Federal Government accounts for $11.106 billion, or about 74 per cent, while the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja owe about $3.94 billion, or 26 per cent. The Federal and State government shares of the debt stock grew from $7.349 billion and $3.369 billion in 2015, to $7.84 billion and $3.568 billion in 2016, and $3.94 billion and $11.106 billion in 2017 respectively. The NBS gave further disaggregation of the country’s foreign debt to include $9.67billion as multilateral debt; $218.25million as bilateral (AFD) and $5.15billion from the Exim Bank of China credit to the Federal Government. Details of the debt figures show that the domestic debts figures of the 36 states of the federation and the FCT have continued to grow since 2015 under the present administration. From about N2.503 trillion in 2015, the NBS data showed the figure rose to N2.959 trillion in 2016 before reaching the latest point of N3.001 trillion in 2017. According to the statistics agency, out of the total N14.017 trillion national debt stock, the Federal Government accounts for about N11.058 trillion, or 78.66 per cent, against about N2.959 trillion, or 21.34 per cent by all the states and the FCT. Further breakdown of the Federal Government domestic debt stock by instruments show that about N7.56 trillion, or 68.41 per cent were in bonds; N3.28 trillion, or 29.64 per cent in treasury bills, while N215.99 million, or 1.95 per cent went into treasury bonds. Although the NBS did not provide the Federal Government domestic debt figures for 2015, figures obtained from the Debt Management Office, DMO, website on Tuesday showed that total domestic debt by instruments as at December 2015 stood at N8.836 trillion. This consisted Federal Government bonds N5.808 trillion, or 65.73 per cent; Nigerian treasury bills N2.773 trillion, or 31.38 per cent, and treasury bonds of N255.99 billion, or 2.90 per cent. Among the 36 states and the FCT, Lagos recorded the highest foreign debt profile, accounting for about 37 per cent of the states’ foreign debts, followed by Kaduna (six per cent), Edo (five percent), Cross River (four percent) and Ogun (three percent). On the domestic front, Lagos State again took the lead, with the highest domestic debt profile among its colleagues and the FCT, accounting for about 10.39 per cent of the total figure, followed by Delta (8.04 per cent), Awa Ibom (5,18 per cent), FCT (5.09 per cent) and Os It would be nice if you put this figures in simpler form. For example, today domestic debt as at May 2015. Today domestic debt as at now. You can also add the reserves. |

Our first goal is an example why forward play is important. Matic could have chosen to reverse or pass to sideways. The forward play is something Sanchez introduced to our attack.
In the second half, what worked for us is high pressing for the ball in the opposition half right from their box. We didn’t allow them play out of their back comfortably, so they lost their build up. They were making mistakes shooting out.

However, with the return of Eric Bailly, things might be good again from the back. I think he should be paired with Jones, just the way we started the season, or with Rojo who can comfortably play out with his left foot from the LCB position.
