We have to be careful not to incite the public to violence because the 'Nigerian internet' get unnecessary orgasm and busy body on news against Buhari. People should be moderate.

Nigerian military speaks on ‘deployment’ of troops in Benue

February 2, 2018
The Defence Headquarters on Thursday denied reports that Nigerian troops had been deployed to Benue State following deadly attacks on Fulani in the state.

“The claim is not true and it now appears like some people are playing politics with security,” defence spokesperson, John Agim, told PREMIUM TIMES by telephone Thursday night. “The troops only went on a specific mission and have since returned to base.”

Panic spread quickly across Benue on Thursday after images surfaced online of a convoy of troops riding along major roads in the state, where several attacks linked to farmers-herders crisis have been recorded in recent weeks.

Some newspapers also reported the images and quoted a spokesperson for 707 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi as confirming the deployment and assuring Gboko residents of their safety.

Daily Independent quoted Olabisi Ayeni, a major, as saying that the soldiers arrived Gboko in seven Toyota Hilux vans ”to scare away criminal elements.”

The Defence Headquarters, however, insisted to PREMIUM TIMES in a follow up enquiry Friday morning that there was no contradiction between its account Thursday night and the statement by the 707 Brigade spokesperson that troops were indeed on ground in Makurdi Thursday.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt from Gboko residents that the only soldiers seen around the predominantly Tiv town as at Friday morning were those working with the police in Operation Zenda.

“Those ones have always been around because they mixed with police when Operation Zenda was launched to combat herdsmen attacks some years back,” a resident said.

The pictures of the military convoy, whose authenticity PREMIUM TIMES could not immediately ascertain, were circulated a day after a mob killed seven travellers in Gboko, an industrial town about 90 kilometres southeast of Makurdi, the state capital.

The police identified the victims as Fulani who were travelling to Kogi and Taraba States. They were killed at a motor park by suspected Tiv thugs who burnt their remains, police said.

The state police commissioner Fatai Owoseni said suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the killings.

Governor Samuel Ortom had also imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Gboko and charged security operatives to ensure prompt arrest and prosecution of all suspects.

The state government also increased a ransom for the most wanted militiaman in the state from N10 to N50 million on Thursday.

The incident was largely presumed a fallout of January 1 attacks in which suspected herdsmen murdered scores of villagers across two local government areas of the state.

The state government buried over 70 persons in a mass grave near Makurdi on January 12.

President Muhammadu Buhari responded by ordering Inspector-General of police to move to the state on January 9 as parts of his administration’s efforts to return calm and a lasting peace to the affected areas.
Meanwhile, Benue residents have criticised the president for deeming the situation in the state critical enough for deployment of soldiers only after the killings of Fulani.

David Ogbole, a Makurdi-based Pentecostal preacher and founder of the Movement Against Fulani Occupation, described the movement of troops in the state as “shameful” and “belated”.
“The military presence in Benue State is only relevant to the degree to which they crack down on Fulani militia, kill or capture them in the spirit of justice,” Mr. Ogbole said in a statement to PREMIUM TIMES Thursday night. “Anything other than that renders them a burden and an unnecessary sight.”

“He that is not for us is against us. He that comes late, never came at all,” he added.
While denying the alleged deployment, Mr. Agim said the military could only get involved if the police are unable to contain the violence and ask for a back-up.

He said the troops went on a special mission to further destroy shrines suspected to be hideouts of “Tiv militia” in Zaki Biam and Katsina Ala areas.
Mr. Agim, a brigadier-general, said the military has bases in all the 36 states, but only the president can order their active deployment in areas that require intervention.

“As witnessed with the Boko Haram menace, the military is the last line of defence,” Mr. Agim said. “So it cannot just jump up and go into security issues.”

Even over training can also cause it.

What really happened last night? Our second half was worse than Barca dominance over us in UCL final 2009.

We need one fast midfielder. Matic and Pogba were overrun, and it was even worse when Pogba and Lingard left the field.

We were the better team at 1-0, then Jones scored an own goal. We never played in the second half. At one point Sanchez was calling the players to come out, whoosa!

Something has to be done about our midfield when we play fast teams like Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal. Kante and Bakayoko will still overrun us in the middle of the park . Arsesnal might likely do same

Secondly, the tactics of our central defenders following Kane, Hazard, Salah, De Bruyne all over the pitch is not working. I have noticed it a long time ago.

November 21, 2017
At least 45 people including women and children were killed, following attacks by suspected Bachama militiamen on Fulani settlements in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa, locals and security sources have confirmed.
The attack occurred hours to Boko Haram attack in which 50 worshipers were killed in a Mubi North mosque in Adamawa State.
Fleeing residents say the Bachama militia, singing war songs, had on Monday evening launched attacks on Fulani settlements in Shafaran, Shawal, Gumara, Kikam and Kadamti villages of Numan Local Government Area.
“They came when all the men were out of the areas, many had gone to market and wedding ceremony in Mayo-Belwa. So they took us unawares.
“I was on my way back from Numan town market when I saw smokes billowing out from our settlements, and minutes later I saw some Bachama militia, numbering about 150 coming to our settlements.
“So, I had to sneak to save my life. But they killed our children, women and burnt houses.
“They came with dangerous weapons chanting war song in Bachama dialect with machetes, daggers and dane guns.
“Both the injured and the corpses have been evacuated to Numan General hospital,” said Oriwa Hammadu, a fleeing resident.
Already the state Police Command has confirmed that 30 people had been killed in attack on the herdsmen.

Taraba mayhem: Ishaku denies ordering killing of Fulani herdsmen

June 24, 2017

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, on Saturday, strongly condemned the ongoing crisis between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Mambilla Plateau, Sardauna Local Government of the state.
The governor, however, refuted the claims that he gave an order for the extermination of the Fulani ethnic group in the state.
He was reacting to the claim by Fulani community in the crisis-ridden area that he (Ishaku) was behind the attack.
Ishaku in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Emmanuel Bello, obtained by journalists in Jos, said the governor’s traducers were out for a mischief.
He said, “The accusers of Governor Ishaku are saying that he, at some point, actually gave orders by way of a broadcast or in some secret location that a certain ethnic group should be wiped out of Taraba.
“They must have a tape recording of such instructions or directives. They probably have a memo by the governor where he clearly gave the plans for elimination, stating timelines.
“They also probably know the armed militia he had planned with to carry out the dastardly act. Now, if they don’t have all of these, as I’m sure there is nothing like that, then, it is amazing how they could sit before journalists and tell a civilised world that a genocide has been planned against them.
“If they want to see genocide, ample examples are there but certainly not in our dear Taraba state. We don’t profile people in this very lovely state or plan the elimination of same. Life is sacrosanct here.”
The governor wondered why the term genocide had not been used in other places where the country witnessed horrendous cases of crimes against humanity.
“In Taraba state, all human lives are precious to us. That is why Governor Ishaku keeps pushing for peace. That’s even his mantra: he says, ‘give me peace and I would give you development’; he is too refined, too peace loving to engage in any kind of blood letting or encourage such.
“The governor is a very civilised man of the world who has interacted with various segments,” Bello said.

1. Mambilla Committed Ethnic Cleansing In Taraba, Says Fulani Community

JUN 22, 2017
The Fulani community in Sardauna Local Government Area, Taraba State, has accused the Mambilla people of committing ethnic cleansing against them, alleging that over 100 Fulani people have been killed in the past week.

This was announced in a press statement released by Fulani elders in Jalingo, Taraba State on Wednesday, who said that hundreds of Fulani villages on the Mambilla Plateau were raided by members of the Mambilla tribe on the orders of Sardauna LGA Chairman John Yep.

The elders said that Mr. Yep ordered a militia to kill Fulani people following the arrest of Umaru Cid, a ringleader of the Mambilla militia in Nguroje, over a land dispute.

“On the 16th of June, 2017 security personnel moved in the early hours and affected some arrests in Nguroje during which some suspected ringleaders of a group that has been fomenting trouble in the area got into the net of the security.

“On getting information about the development, the Chairman of the Local Government, Mr. John Yep, immediately led some Mambilla youths to storm Nguroje alleging that the arrest was instigated by the Fulani. This led to a total siege on Nguroje and its environs,” the elders said.

They alleged that Mr. Yep then broadcasted a radio message throughout Taraba State instigating violence against the Fulani.

“What followed thereafter was a coordinated and simultaneous attack on over 300 Fulani communities,” they said.

According to the elders, the killing has been ongoing for four days now, with over 130 Fulani persons missing. They added that 4,000 of their cows had been either slaughtered or stolen.

Now that economic data shows Nigeria is on the path of greatness as never before, some people want to instigate these boys to sabotage the economy.

The economic good news is bad news to the power hungry opposition. Too bad!

Everything in Nigeria is politics. They have used the Benue killings as a tool to incite everyone against the President. In July last year 2017, at least 140 Fulani herdsmen were reported killed in Mambilla in Tarabastate. Even when the Fulani called for help and said they were being exterminated with their properties, cows destroyed no one helped out. They even called on the FG.

In November, 45 women and children of herdsmen were killed in Plateau states.

We are Nigerians playing bitter politics?

But I am beginning to get angry with him due to his deliberate silence on Fulani herdsmen attack and murder.

Though I have always forgiven his element of nepotism and bigotry because I believe in his fiscal responsibility, but his silence on killing of innocent lives over cattle and farmland is an elastic limit for me.

he needs to address this issue before he lost all the support he has in the south from Non politician like me who has no interest in selfish political gain but supported him because we believe his fiscal responsibility relative to past adminstration is much better.

We can not trade human lives of citizens for politics.
