Nairaland General#saynotoxenophobia:ghanaians Unhappy With Non-inclusion In Africa All Stars by elbinmanny(op): 8:13pm On Apr 24, 2015
So social media has been buzzing with the video for  ‘We Are The World’ African All-star remake, in a bid to unite Africa and fight the xenophobic attacks in South Africa. According to reports, this is an MTN South Africainitiative in collaboration with Joyous Celebration, a South African music group. The artistes, who according to the video make up Africa All Stars, are dominated by Nigerians and South Africans, with others from Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. They include Mafikizolo, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, MXO, Sean Tizzle, Kcee, Patoranking, Harrysong, Yemi Alade, Sfiso Newane, Banky W, among others. Unfortunately, no Ghanaian musicianwas included. The video has thus suffered a backlash among Ghanaians, who feel it was disrespect towards Ghanaian musicians.  What do you think?

Foreign AffairsRe: Open Letter To NIGERIA From A SOUTH AFRICAN by elbinmanny(m): 11:00am On Apr 24, 2015
Thandolwethu:
I start by imploring you to read this letter with an open and unbiased mind as this will enable you grab the full gist of my message.
I am a full blooded South African, born and bread in Soweto. I have never been to Nigeria and my impression of your Country is formed by the behaviour and actions of the many Nigerians who live in SA and what we hear and read from the media about the goings on in your country.
I deliberately joined Nairaland today as I noted that alot of you are on this Forum hence its a good platform to pass my message. Suffice it to say that i will delete this account after this message. I will read your responses with keen interest.

1. There is no question that there was xenophobic attack on Foreigners in SA in the past 3weeks. What is in doubt is the scale of the attack. I have noted that Nigerians have overtly blown the crises out of proportion by spreading lies and wrong informatiom concerning the crisis. The idea that South Africans are going round SA cities killing, maiming and burning Foreigners is a lie. Only 7 people have been killed so far and of these 7, 3 are south Africans, 2 Ethiopians and 2 Mozambican. The world media is in agreement with these figures. While its 7 lives too many that doesnt give credence to the news going round in Nigeria that we are killing and burning Foreigners. If thats true then there would be more people dead.
STOP BELIEVING WHATYOU READ AND WATCH ON social media as most are lies and fabricated figments of the imaginations of mischievous Nigerians in other to stoke the flame of discord between Nigeria and SA.

2. Why are Nigerians up in arms against SA with xenophobia when the war in Nigeria is far worse than here in SA. Boko haram is killing thousands your people everyday and theres no end in sight meanwhile no Nigerian has been killed in this Xenophobic attack. That is why Nigerians throng our embassies in Lagos and Abuja seeking Visas to come to SA and escape the despicable living conditions in the slums of Nigeria.

3. This recent Xenophobic attack was predicated on the fact that Foreigners commit so much heinous crimes in SA without impunity and we are tired of all these. We have our own criminals here so we cant add more problems from foreigners.
A. NIigerians are the kingpins of drugs killing our children and society. Your brothers drug our girls into prostitution. They con our people with fraud and 419. They hack into our bank accounts stealing millions.

B. Zimbabweans are involved in robberies and car hijackings

C. Mozambicans kill our farmers and take our jobs for peanuts leaving many South Africans jobless

D. Ethiopians and Somalians open shops to do illegal activities and pollute our communities. Theres a Somalian shop in every 2 houses on every street in SA. No Country can allow that.

SA has its own issues but we would like to solve them without the added problems of Foreign crimials.

If you like burn down shoprite and close MTN its your people that will suffer because these companies employ millions of Nigerians. They will simply go jobless.

Thank you

PoliticsSouth African President Commits Xenophobia Against An African Man (photo) by elbinmanny(op): 8:29pm On Apr 21, 2015
The South African President Jacib Zuma was earlier this year spotted molesting a fellow African man working for him in his farm.
This picture has gone viral showing that if the number citizen of the country can exhibit such xenophobic tendencies against a fellow black man, why wont his followers take a lead from him?
Has anyone wondered why the SA president hasn't said anything yet against what is happening in his country?

PoliticsNo Evidence Of Electoral Fraud In River State -jega by elbinmanny(op): 5:43pm On Apr 21, 2015
The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega has said there was no evidence of electoral fraud Rivers State before the commision.
He also said the commission lacked the power to cancel results of elections after they had been announced.
The commission’s chairman, who spoke at the Civil Rights Situation Room‎ held in Abuja stated that the Commission after getting the petition of irregularities in Rivers State sent three national Commissioners to investigate it.
According to him, the reports submitted by the team did show any irregularities in the election.

“We have no power to cancel elections results once returns have been made. On the petition against election irregularities in Rivers State, the commission sent three national commissioners to the state to investigate it and found no irregularities in the election in the report. Some people don’t want elections to hold, they are the ones calling for cancellation.

“We investigate the allegation of fake result sheets in Rivers and our reports showed that there was nothing like that,” he stated.

While answering question on whether he would accept the offer, if he is re-appointed as INEC boss, Jega stressed that he would not accept it as he would want to do something else with his life.

The INEC boss further stated ‎that the commission was already in partnership with the police and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to prosecute electoral offenders.

He noted that one offender had already been prosecuted in Adamawa state by being sentenced to six months imprisonment for being in illegal possession of permanent voter cards.

He, however, called on anyone with evidence as it related to electoral offences to bring such to the commission, with a promise that such would be investigated and consequently tried in court.

On the planned supplementary elections in Abia State, Jega said that ‎the elections would hold only in the wards where election was cancelled and not in the entire three local government areas.

Jega further revealed about 20,000 permanent voters card were not produced before the election was conducted because the producer was arrested by the police over the allegation that he gave the password to a political party.

“Evidently, some people did not want us to use the card reader machine. That was why we allowed manual election in some few places where the card reader did not function well during the presidential election.

“Some people had already said that we deliberately deployed card reader machine that would not in some zones and to prove them wrong, we instructed that manual voting should take place in such places. But some people want to take the advantage of that.

“But during governorship elections, we ensured that all the card reader machines worked. We had earlier sent warning to all the RECs that they would be held responsible for any card reader that did not work properly,” he stated.

Earlier, the convener of the Situation Room and Executive Director of Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre PLAC, Clement Nwankwo had on behalf of the Civil Societies congratulated Jega and INEC over the success of the elections.

He, however, noted that Situation Room had raised concern over Rivers, Abia and Akwa – Ibom elections.

He also noted that there were complaints about some of the State Resident Electoral Commissioners ‎as it relates to their relationship with politicians in their various states.

PoliticsAPGA Leader Urges Igbos To Vote Agbaje by elbinmanny(op): 6:38pm On Apr 08, 2015
The leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Lagos State has called on eligible Igbo voters in the state to cast their votes for the Peoples’ Democratic Party in protest against the hate remarks by Rilwanu Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos.Campbell Umeh-Nzekwe told PREMIUM TIMES in an interview, Tuesday, that Igbo residents in Lagos stand a better chance of fulfilling their potentials under the PDP than the All Progressives Congress, APC.“Since PDP has given us opportunity by allowing Ndi Igbo to win (three) House of Reps and go to Abuja and defend Igbo interest and Lagos interest, because we are all Lagosians,” said Mr. Umeh-Nzekwe, who contested for governor in Lagos State in 2003.“Then I’m of the candid opinion that it’s better you support what you are having. Except APC are now coming again on the table to tell us what they will offer us if they win.“There must be bargaining power in between. In the absence of that, I ask Ndi Igbo to vote for PDP because PDP has given us opportunity, and we need a lot of opportunity to grow. That’s what we are asking for, not peanuts or hand-outs from APC leaders. Give us opportunity to run for elections.“Than looking for where they are chasing shadow, in APC, after 16 years they use one dummy – one commissioner and one member in the state executive – to deceive Ndi Igbo.”Mr. Akiolu had told Eze Ndi-Igbos (Igbo traditional rulers) of all the local government areas in Lagos State, who had come to pay him a courtesy visit, that they should cast their votes for his chosen governorship candidate or “perish inside the lagoon.”The Oba supports the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Akinwunmi Ambode.Mr. Umeh-Nzekwe blamed the Igbo chiefs, who he described as “political traders,” for Mr. Akiolu’s hateful remarks.“How can you tell a race, like an Igbo race, that they will die or lagoon will swallow them if they did not vote for APC? It’s because there are people who went there to go and beg him for money,” he said.“Some people gathered themselves and went to him. He give them kola, and giving you kola and asking you to go and vote for somebody, let’s take it that he armed them to go and vote.“If so called Ezes dragged themselves and went to the Oba palace to go and pay unsolicited homage, what do you expect at the end of the day?”Mr. Umeh-Nzekwe said during the election period, a lot of people had claimed to be representing the interests of Igbo people in order to obtain favour from politicians and prominent people.“This is a political period. Some group of Ezes went to Tinubu, some were campaigning for Jonathan. I know some group who say they are Eze. Everybody is claiming Eze in Lagos, that’s why we will never find our level.“Ndigbo cannot vote for APC. PDP have allowed non-indigenes to participate. APC closed their doors, non-indigenes cannot contest elections under APC. You can see from the whole arrangement that there is no non-indigene from the whole candidates they fielded for the election,” he said.“In 2003, I ran for governor of Lagos State under APGA. In 2006, when the issue of Funsho Williams and APGA was trying to form an alliance prior to 2007 election, Tinubu appointed Ben Akabueze as Commissioner for Planning and Budget, and appointed Joe Igbokwe as Publicity Secretary of AD (Alliance for Democracy) then.“Up till today, there is no other appointee of Ndi Igbo either in the party or in the cabinet of Lagos State government, apart from other administrative and council officers. There is no any other political appointment, either as commissioner or DG or Permanent Secretary. So it’s like a dummy.”The APGA leader argued that Yorubas do not get the same opportunity in the South East because Lagos is a “colonial settlement.”“It’s a cosmopolitan city. The name itself ‘Lagos’ is a Portuguese name, not a Yoruba name, or Igbo or Hausa name. Do we have such in Igbo land? We don’t have such.“Lagos is purely a colonial settlement, forget those who are claiming it. Some people came from Ogbomosho, they are only enjoying proximity. And they are taking the thing as the owner of the land, which is wrong.“In those days you dare not cross Marina, there is a prison yard near that Marina there, you don’t cross there because they will arrest you and put you in cell. You don’t go there. All the Ikoyi you see, all the Victoria Island, was a colonial master arrangement, not a Yoruba arrangement. So the issue of Igbo land and Yoruba land is a different thing.“If you say Igbo man cannot go to Oyo State or Ekiti State and contest, I will concede, but Lagos is a colonial settlement, not a Yoruba land. They are only laying claim.”
