They are not in the same class. Yes the price difference might be close but that is because the Camry is overrated and Nigerians have this syndrome for Toyotas sayings its more rugged and durable. Dealers tend to bring on more Toyotas because of more buyers, hence hike in price. Its just the same way Nigerians are crazy over blackberry. Blackberries don't even sell in the states and other countries anymore but in naija its regarded as the best phone. No wonder bb q10 is sold in naija for 130k. More expensive than the iPhone 5 and Samsung galaxy s4 but really with far less features and inferior operating system. Nigerians are afraid of trying new/different things. the 2008 Altima is far superior to the 2003 Camry (big daddy) in all aspects. The Camry is so boring and looks like a coffin. It just depends on ur maintenance culture. Parts might be a little expensive on the Altima but then that's a small price to pay for all the features u get. No car that doesn't give problems, just get a competent mechanic. I would go for the Altima if I were u and have the money... Or better still join the rest and go for d camry |
JUO: if you like buy car wen go turn to u security man. both are good cars. you can follow the iPhone class or ....or the crackberry class lol |
Stupid question |
U need to make urself clearer. I don't think anyone would understand your post. What is achieve? What kind of noise and what is baby boy? |
This would have been a good idea.. In advanced countries its what they do.. most of the citizens don't pay for full price for cars but yet they drive any car they want.. just pay monthly over a period. Some even pay for a period of 5 years.. and if they happen to sell the car along the line.. the buyer continues the payment. But let's be real.. we are not yet ready for this in NIgeria.. a country where most people don't even pay tax. In advanced countries, there is what is called credit score. They check ur credit score with ur social security number and determine the amount of loan u are eligible to. With ur social security number they are all ur information so u have no where to run to.. everything is computerized. In Nigeria I can make a fake drivers license or passport and use it to open a bank account. I can get a fake PHCN bill or Water Bill and present to my bank as my address. So before this can work in Nigeria we need to have a good identity structure. Until then.. there is no way this can work or else dealers will be running allover the place for run away buyers. I can walk to a dealer with fake documents and purchase a car on installmental payment.. say in Lagos. Then next thing I relocate to Port Harcourt and the dealer will never find me. I would close my bank acct that I opened with a fake Id lol. |
megastone: .WHo are u trying to deceive calling a 2002 model toyota avalon 2008 model lol. That's so not a 2008 model avalon. |
Fhemmmy: Apple's stock has not performed well this year, and some people also are saying since iphone 4, Apple has not done much.Yes u are right Apple's stock hasn't performed well this year like Android. But the fact still remains its the most stable OS out there. Corporate companies have been ditching Blackberry for Iphones. I can't even make a video call on my Blackberry until late last year. Skype video calls have been availanle for android and Iphones for years. Not to talk of G talk, Face time etc. Blackberry doesn't even have simple apps like Instagram and a dedicated youtube app. Angry birds? So my point is Blackberry are always a step behind android and IOS and yes Nigerians get crazy about it. |
Fhemmmy: I have always known that Blackberry no fit die . . . Now they are making driving more fun for the drivers. . . Read and Comment:Blackberry is already DEAD. They only sell in Nigeria because of Nigerian mentality and they are just trying to make a come back with BB10. If u ask an average Nigerian what's the best phone he will say Blackberry.. just like they are Toyota crazy even thought there are better all round cars around. An average Nigerian thinks its only a Blackberry phone that can get u access to the internet LMAO. I mean these things don't even have HSPA+ (except the new BB10) not to talk of 4G. The highest speed of an average Blackberry is 3G which is too slow for me. The displays are horrible.. I can't imagine they just started making phones with 720p display in 2013 while other companies are moving to 1080p (Samsung, LG, HTC). And They sell those things expensive in Nigeria. Imagine a BB z10 costing 100k.. same price as Samsung Galaxy s4 and BB Q10 costing 130k. Are u kidding me? Ok back to the topic... Smartphone integration into cars have been around for IOS (Iphones, Ipods, Ipads) and Android (Samsung Galaxy, HTC etc) for years so again Blackberry is late (they are always late). Check out the newer cars.. mostly BMW, Benz, Bentley, Ford or even the hew Honda Accord. They have softwares that connect to ur Iphones and Ipods wirelessly and u can play music on ur device directly from the car dash or control volume right from ur steering. U can receive phone calls without touching ur phone and access maps. Even Ios 7 are already integrating Maps and Siri into cars. SO I don't see anything fantastic in what Blackberry are doing. They rip us up in this country .. REally Blackberry Q10 130,000 naira? I will rather buy Iphone 5 , Galaxy S4, Htc One (far superior phones ) and still have some change. |
Toyota pilot? |
Fogman: OP, Thanks for this post. HID Xenon lights has overwheaming advantages compare to our conventional bulbs, reason while it was invented.Oga Fogman.. I no mean to spoil business for u ooo. I didn't suggest HID's to be banned. No doubt the lights are far brighter than our conventional bulbs. What I'm saying is to try educate people on how it should be used in order not to cause unnecessary accidents by blinding other road users. Just because someone can move a car from point A to point B doesn't mean he's a qualified driver. |
Sometimes ago, I was driving at night along old Lagos Abeokuta Road and there was a driver behind me.. he has this High Intensity Discharge (HID) xenon bulb installed on his headlamp. The light was reflecting into my rear view mirror and it was very disturbing and blinding to me. I decided to create this thread because of the way we drive in this country. I also have this same bulb installed on my car.. when I installed it the mechanic wanted to install it on the high beam (full light) but I asked him to install it on the low beam because I know if its on the high beam it would be disturbing and blinding to upcoming drivers when I have my high beam on. And I hardly used my high beam anyway unless when on the highway. In advanced countries, a driver is required to dim his high beam when within 300ft of following another driver and within 500 feet of an oncoming driver. In Nigeria people don't do that, most drivers use this as show off to display how powerful their headlamps are. Now I am not against Installing Hing intensity discharge xenon bulbs. But the question is do we meet the purpose of these bulbs? The bulbs were invented to allow better visibility at nights, but could also be blinding to upcoming drivers if not used appropriately leading to accidents rather than safety. I normally dim my light when facing another upcoming vehicle but most cars don't bother dimming theirs even when i flash them. My suggestion is FRSC should enforce this light dimming when facing another vehicle or when closely behind another vehicle. They should create a task force to educate and inform people about this.. or even make scapegoats out of some so this rule can stand. What do u think guys.. do u dim ur light or are u all high beam all the time. |
Fogman: Thanks for your post and your fear is quite understood. This is what I have been saying. HID lights are good no doubt but the way they are used in this country is disgusting. Most drivers in Nigeria are not qualified drivers. In advanced country, its mandatory that u dim your High Bean Headlights when within 300ft following another driver and 500ft when facing an upcoming driver. But in Nigeria, we see people with HID facing another driver with the whole high beam on without dimming. Now tell me how that would be safe.. it will blind the coming driver and this has led to lots of accidents. In other words.. the purpose of the HID xenon headlights is not achieved, rather the result is negative. If drivers can learn to dim their lights when facing upcoming vehicle this can be avoided . |
ZIM DRILL: you are misguiding him 1st is scanning without touching the 3 you mentioned, scanning gets straight to the point without trial and errorSpot on bro. Different things can cause the check engine light to blink. Just because urs was the plugs doesn't mean each time the light blinks then its the plugs. There are over fault codes that can trigger the CEL. SO poster, first thing u need to do is scan ur car. |
Justosaus: i'm comparing them on the basis that they're both SUVs, like dem both but don't quite know which to go for cos haven't had experience with any of them... So i'm hoping guys who have handled either of them can bail me outEarthrealm said it all. This is a stupid comparison... its like comparing a toyota corolla with a honda accord. They are not in the same class at all. So it depends on what u are looking for. With ur budget (1.2-1.5m) you are looking at probably 2001-2003 tokunbo Honda crv. That amount can't get u even a tokunbo 2001 Highlander. A 2001 CRV comes with 2.0L I4 engine while the Highlander comes with a bigger V6 engine. Toyota Highlander is bigger and more spacious, comes with better specs. The Highlander will consume more fuel of course because of the bigger engine, but mind u highlander produces more horsepower than crv. Highlander is also 4x4. So bro it depends on what u are looking for. If u are looking for more power then highlander. Their prices are not even in the same level. You should compare the highlander with honda pilot. |
LANRYUS: A gus send this to me via BB and I wish to share it with you all.I know Nigeria police are not competent enough, but I don't agree with u 100%. Most countries have laws concerning tinted glasses on vehicles and the level of tint allowed. I've lived outside the country and know what I'm saying. You don't just pick a vehicle with dark tinted glasses and start driving around without tint permit, it's never done anywhere. I am not supporting the police because even if u don't have the permit, they will still collect egunje from u and let u go. But asking owners to get a permit is at least one step in the right direction. In advanced countries, u don't just tint ur glass, it's only on special medical recommendations that u are allowed to drive a tinted glass and the level of tint must be included in the medical papers. How many of us in this this country that drive tinted cars have such papers? |
instinctg: I sometimes hear a whimming sound when trying to turn my steering. In such cases, I top d power steering oil with Abro ATF fluid and this consumes about a liter. |
i.meller:wow, how can I miss that. That's surely way to go |
ifyalways: Just give the #20 and go your merry way.Police no dey collect 20 naira these days oh. Them don upgrade |
oyb: why is this bs which if for western nations on the front page? You have said it all. That's all u need.. especially no 3 |
Ikenna351: I dont agree with some of the things you said. |
Its called DRL (Daytime Running Lights). I don't know why most Nigerians think if a car has a DRL then its American specs. The thing is most cars with DRL are from Canada because its mandatory that any cars produced in Canada must have it (since 1989). Some American cars also have DRL but not all. Its a safety feature do reduce daytime accident by letting u see an upcoming car from distance (I really don't buy that though, unless in severe weather conditions like snow, fog or heavy rain). Now some Nigerian drivers deliberately turn on their headlamps during the day, You can easily know its not DRL if the light is too bright (DRLs are not very brigh). Also check the tail light, if tail light is on then its not DRL. There's no way u can turn DRL off in most cars produced in Canada.. for some American cars there are ways to turn it off. Now the spoiler.... DRL doesn't turn on when u start ur engine, however the moment u engage the gear it turns itself on and won't turn off again even if u return the gear to park and ur car is idling. Now in a situation where at night and u are driving slowly and don't want to be spotted by someone not very far from u.. say hoodlums or police... if ur car is one of those canadian cars with DRL then u are screwed because even with ur headlamps off, ur DRL will stay on and you will be spotted. My car has this stupid DRL and I was loving it at first but now I think its a pain especially when u are trying to avoid being spotted at night |
eldagaius: Thanks a milliom @ OP. Nairalanders before you begin to curse Naija, read through to ascertain that this incidence happened in Naija. "Motor Service Area with toilet", which road this kind thing dey for 9ja?Did u click the link above u read it and tell me if that was written by a Nigerian |
Piyke: I believe you need to clean your throttle body. Is your check engine light on?Yes CEL is on. Scanned it and it's p0141 and p2a00 which indicates the 02 sensor and af sensors. Already changed the sensors and reset but p0141 comes back after a few minutes. That is probably because of absence of cat converter. But can a bad cat converter cause the problem? |
layday2005: check the injector mouth. its happening to my honda baby boy. my mechanic served the injector mouth and it stopped for a while but has started again. Thanks, will try that. What baffles me is sometimes it doesn't behave like that. But recently it has started behaving this way so frequently. Sometimes if i switch off engine for a few minutes and restart it stops and works normal. I still need more opimions |
My 4 cyl 2005 Honda Accord behaves funny sometimes. When i start in the morning it works normal, revs high for a few secs and then gets to normal after about 45-60 secs.. the rpm stays on 1,000. While driving it works normal and when I match the brake it starts reving high at 1,200 rpm. Sometimes it even moves forcefully by itself while I'm matching the brake on bad roads. When I put it in neutral the rpm goes to 1,500 and when I put in park it goes as high as 2,000 rpm. This leads to high fuel consumption. I know this is not normal, it doesn't happen all the time, sometimes its very smooth but I hate it when it revs really high and rough. it just happened again today while driving back from church. I just started it now and it works normal while parked. I'm afraid when I drive again this would happen. Pls I need help from the professors. |
A lot of people here just argue blindly. Surely law of physics is involved. It depends On the weight of the car and the velocity before impact. It is normal that the moving car will have less damage than the stationary car. Also the point of impact should be put into consideration. Let's look at at it the other way round, if the Benz was stationary and the Honda hit it while on speed, the Benz will take more damage, though might not be as bad as the Honda is right now. Now a lot of people are trying to say the benz is stronger. Yes this is TRUE. Benz are built with with more premium material than Hondas. I mean what do u expect? Hondas are built with the best of both worlds, combining luxury with economy while Benz are mainly high end. Let's take a look at the prices. A 2013 Honda Accord ex which is the flagship car of Honda is sold for about $26,000 whereas a 2013 mercedez Benz c350 which which is about the lowest trim is sold for about $42,000. That is about twice the price of the accord. So how can u compare both cars? People should be realistic. The Honda Accord are mainly economy, u can't compare the mileage and maintenance to that of benz. Ok I might be going off topic here but just saying this because some people don't even put things into consideration, they just jump to say Hondas are craps. Not everyone can afford a benz. They both have their pros and cons. BACK to the topic, Let someone break a brick on ur head with force and see if you won't get hurt. But if u knock ur head on the brick with force, u can break the brick without u getting hurt. |
