Quick question on inverters

Charging my inverter batteries from the grid / mains (PHCN) while using a prepaid meter will be consuming my meter token/units very fast.

And charging with a generator will be burning fuel and still end up reducing / weakening battery life.

So what’s actually the purpose of inverters? As either way, it’s costly and you end up losing

You are only looking at the money aspect.
Have you forgotten that you will be having 24/7 electricity with the setup plus PHCN?

If Nigeria were to have 24/7 electricity, we will not be paying all these 1k, 3k or even 5k+ we pay as electricity bill, it will be way higher cheesy

Anyway like someone said, add solar panels. That's the only way you can truly say you are off grid.

She doesn't know that once a man is hungry for agricultural food nothing else matters.

If she likes, let her not cook, her husband will patronise mama Iyabo down the street... there is always an alternative.

Yes, I had to use the word 'agricultural' to qualify the food because it seems the meaning of food on this thread gets more ambiguous with each new comment.

Four bulbs.

One home theater.
Please this is urgent, I will need the least price possible as I will compare prices, and please installation cost from solar panel to batteries, etc.

Thanks.

Give more details by providing the power consumption (watts) of these appliances and how long you wish to run them everyday.

I'm not sure it has any effect on the battery life, i use the same charger on my 100ah battery and it gets that high too, its almost a year now and i have not had any issues with the battery. I have bin making use of the battery every day in the last 9mths for at least 5hours and its not showing any sign of failing anytime soon

Really? thanks for the info

@bolded, do you think this is applicable for dstv decoder too? The adapter is a 12v one but i dnt knw if the decoder can handle dc voltage of up to 14.5v when battery gets to float.

If the dstv power input is 12v, it should work.
It is advisable to unplug while charging, it may tolerate up to 13.5v but I don't know of 14.5v.

I already biught some dc plugs for my fan so ill checkbif mouth is dame and use one of them for the decoder. Ill have to scrimp and get a small dc tv.
Iv been off grid for 11 months now due to spoilt transformer so i am trying all avenue to minimize consumption before i upgrade my system

OK, the 26" version of the LG DC TV is around 30k but if you bargain well, you could get it for 28-29k.

Puchase link on aliexpress pls

Shopping on AliExpress is a gamble right now due to the Corona thingy.

I suggest you contact one of these sellers on Jiji. Type "DC plug" in the search bar.

If you still want to use AliExpress, type the same in the search bar. I can't post links for now because I'm on parole from the last antispam bot sentence. I don't want to go back to NL jail. grin

I understand you perfectly. And thats what i mean. Discard/eliminate the adapter. I was just showing the adapter.
Connect 12vdc to 220 vac adapter? Lol

So now i can use my decoder without inverter. Why didnt i buy dc tv the time i bought my tv? Any way i can adapt my tv too? There should be a way the decoder can be connected to my laptop to perform tv function. I cant afford buying a dc tv now

It would have been possible to use an RCA to VGA converter or RCA to HDMI converter but unfortunatley, the VGA and HDMI port on most laptops are output-only meaning that you can't use the laptop as a monitor.

I ordered for a solar submersible about a week ago only for the yèyé seller to mail me after 3 days giving a foolish excuse of not being able to ship to my country. Then asking me to request for refund by selecting "other reasons". Me I just ignore the guy. Let AE arbitrate on their own and penalize him for not shipping on time.

Besides with this dollar-naira jagajaga increasing, I wont mind a little delay so that by the time I will be refunded, it will be at the prevailing dollar exchange rate - that means some more profit for me grin

See business o! grin

I don't mean connecting the DC source to the GOTV adapter o. What I mean is that the same power-in port for the adapter on the decoder is the same place you'll plug in your 12v direct DC source. In fact by the time you are through with direct DC connection of the GOTV, you won't be needing that AC power pack (adapter) that comes with it, except of course you decide to cut off the DC plug end of the adapter to use for the direct DC connection. But I would advice it's better you get your own DC plug and solder in your wires to connect to the 12vdc source.

I use this DC plug (first picture). Got them from AliExpress but it's available on Jiji for as low as N500 for a pack of 10 pieces. The second picture is also an option.

Correct me if i am wrong. The decoder is wired for dc operation. So the what happens is this: the followcome power cord converts ac to dc. Hence why the power cord is not an ordinary plug but a laptop charger type. That is why you were able to connect dc plug to it directly. Mine says output is 12v, 1.5a.

Correct. The adapter converts 220v to 12v to power the decoder.

Pis of how u take connect ur gotv to battery biko

Ceaser has answered your question.

Please make sure the decoder is not connected to the battery while it's charging. I don't know if it can take up to 14.5V without damaging it. When I have a spare decoder, I'll do that experiment. grin
To be on the safe side, you can put a voltage regulator in between.
