You ended up not recommending any brand

He has recommended two brands for you already. People recommend what they have used or have experience with. I echo his sentiments that you may not get a genuine brand in Onitsha.

All my solar accessories were waybilled to my location from Lagos. Overcome your fear of waybill cheesy and contact the offices of the brand he suggested.

My brother, are you saying an Inverter rated 300 watts is actually 150 watts actual power

There is something called continous power output and peak power output of inverters.
An inverter rated say 1000w will most often only be able to carry 500w load continous and 1000w load peak for some seconds for inductive loads like refrigerator which have surge on startup.

Most inverters are designed that way. You cannot load an inverter to 100% of its capacity the same way you should not discharge your batteries to 0%.

I suggest you take time to do extensive research on these things

Sequel to the question above, can thunder affect a setup with a separate wiring that is not connected to the grid (NEPA) wiring? That is, the setup has just a few points for powering appliances, runs purely on solar without any contact with the main house wiring.
Will thunder still affect it?

I used to think that thunder/lightening strike passes through the wires coming from the grid (NEPA) pole so if the setup has no contact with that, it is safe from thunder wahala? Is my thinking correct?

Please I have a 45W laptop that lasts for about 7hours, charges full in <3hrs.

Power supply here is erratic and I don't want to spend money always on fueling my generator it's big and I turn it on several times daily just for charging my laptop, please are there any budget friendly set ups I can invest in? Ideally 50k - 100k. Would love to be able to charge my laptop (and phone too) for at most 8hours a day.

Any suggestions please, thanks in advance.

100ah battery: 45-50k
1unit of 150w panel: 25k
20a solar charge controller:5k
1000w Pure sine wave inverter from AliExpress: 20k

Total: 95-100k

With this setup, your laptop can be on for even more than 8hrs whether NEPA brings light or not as long as sun shines.
Note: Ideally the panels should be 2 for faster charging of battery but since you are on a tight budget, you can start with one and add another later.

I know the visa card also allows $100 but I don't have it.

Or just use a USD card that has no limits - easy if you earn US income or are happy to buy Fx at blackmarket rates to fund the card.

If you are a typical naija guyman who wishes to purchase at ~NGN415/USD using GTB and other 'sane' banks, then get yourself a GTB naira master card and visa card, then get a virtual card and utility card all on the GTB platform - that gives you access to $400 online spend per person per month

Co-opt the official Madam, Mistress, siblings, friends and other trusted folks into the scheme and you can easily do $2000 or more per month per sane bank.

Notice I said sane bank - GTB has never charged me above NGN420/USD. Providus Bank charges me $494/USD to use their card cheesy

Can one get all these cards in a single account? I already have the Naira MasterCard

This problem already arose on my last transaction with the seller. I complained to him and he suggested a way out. He provided a link in his store where you can pay for 1usd items. So you can select as many items as possible to make up to 100 USD per card. By the time I'd made payments in two batches of 100usd each, it now remained around 81usd to balance. He then asked me to click "pay for item" on the inverter but that i should not pay so that it goes to the "unpaid" folder on my profile. He then arranged a limited time to reduce (alter) the price of the item while it was in my "unpaid" folder to reflect the remaining balance. In less than one hour of him reducing the price, I paid otherwise once the limited duration elapses the price goes back up and the price adjustment arrangement will have to be repeated again.

To keep to this limited time, you have to constantly check on the price item in the "unpaid" folder and also the AliExpress chat messages inbox between you and the seller to know when he/she informs you when he effects the price adjustment.

Thanks for the idea

Thanks. The issue now is that both cost of item plus shipping exceeds 100USD and my banks (GTB and FBN) won't allow expenditure of more than 100USD per month. How does one bypass this challenge? Is there any bank offering more than 100USD per month on Naira Card?

All the installs that use that 24v/4000w peak inverter (with the exception of the 1000w peak that is for only TV, fan, gotv and phone charging) all have deep freezers placed on it and sometimes simultaneously with washing machine when the sun is high up. One has 200w deep freezer, 80watts deep freezer and 65watts refrigerator on it simultaneously and occasionally 800 watts photocopier machine is added when printing job is to be done.

The dude that spoilt his own with presumably pressing iron initially did fine with 700watts pumping machine on his own (that guy still vexes me till today because I had to pay for the replacement from my pocket). He still spoilt my 500w I loaned him as stop gap while awaiting a replacement inverter. Up till today he didn't even bother to ask how I was able to get a replacement. I'll be waiting for him when he needs maintenance to be done on his system. That is when he will see the other side of me. Mind you, I'm not into installation business so my job for him was pro bono, as per street neighbour. I only asked that he pay the installer that climbed the roof. Having a reputation to protect was the reason I decided to get him the replacement. I don't want anybody telling street people that I got him defective items.

Suffice to say that there is this other brand of 12v/2000w peak inverter from another AliExpress seller that has been faithful for two years. I couldn't get that same inverter again, that was why I settled for the new types of 24v/4000w peak from another seller.

The highest I paid for duty charges is 4k+ naira for the 4000w peak inverter. The 1000w peak was duty free, I think.

Thanks a lot.

All inverters I have for personal use in recent times are PSW purchased from AliExpress. And yes, they all have low no-load consumption. There is this particular brand from a seller where I have purchased 4 units (3 units 4000w peak and 1 unit 1000w peak). Delivery is usually in 2 weeks with UPS shipping.

One of the 4000w peak failed after the third day apparently because the yeye man did all sorts of experimenting with and abusing the inverter - against technical advice - including placing a pressing iron on it. I complained to the seller (I avoided the abuse part) and he offered to send a replacement at half the price, since I complained it would be impossible to ship the faulty one back to him.

One of the 4000w have been in operation for 1 year, 1000w in operation for 10 months and the latest 4000w has served for 1 month.

Please can you share the link to or picture of the 4000w inverter? Do you run your refrigerator with it?

beware! most them are modified sine wave. considering the 2-3months wait, why not purchase in naija.

The naija ones consume alot on their own going by people's reviews/experiences. The waiting time won't be up to 2 months from my recent shopping experience.

My brother, you would not regret it if you did.Currently using one for almost a year now rated 4000w @ peak.I use it for my deep freezer, electronics, lights etc.It is a monster ,weighs less than 10kg and far better than the two previous inverters from India that I used whose idle consumption is killing......
Mind you,it is noiseless while @ work....

Please can you snap and post a picture of the inverter?
Or direct me to the AliExpress page or take screenshots of the page to be on a safe side since the antispam robot on this section can be overactive.
Thank you.

normal refrigerator surge is around 800 to 900w, so it can handle it, but increase panels to 450 or 600w.

Okay, thanks.

What do you think about these pure sine wave inverters sold on AliExpress? I am thinking of getting one rated 2000w (4000w peak) solely for this purpose. I have a 600w PSW inverter from Ali but never used it for inductive loads.

The reason I want to get from AliExpress is because of the low idle/running consumption of those inverters compared to the ones we find around locally since the battery capacity is going to be just 100ah. I want to avoid energy wastage even though there will be solar panels

Guys, please can a 1.5kva 12v inverter with 100ah battery power a refrigerator rated at 1.1amps 220v. That should be about 242W from my calculation. The fridge will be used mostly at noon and battery will be supported by two 150w (300w) panels.

I'm wondering if the inverter can handle the surge. (don't know how high the consumption can go during surge)

Sorry about your marital troubles but you are only looking at this issue from one perspective.

There is something called depression and it doesn't just go away by 'talking to someone'. In fact, many depressed persons don't want to talk to anyone because they have lost interest in everything about life.

There are many depressed persons whose family memebers have tried their best to provide emotional support for yet they killed themselves in the end. So don't be quick to blame it on the wives or family memebers.
