BreconHills:Your age makes me want to talk about this with you. I would never discuss this with someone who did not have a first hand experience. I am surprised that you took ethnicity into account when looking at the events of June 1993. To begin with, can you tell us the names of those who objected to the election? Can you tell us their ethnicity? Can you also tell us about those of MKOs tribe who were against him? Can you mention the name of the first person who we were told objected to MKO’s Presidential intention? Did you deliberately overlook Abiola’s kinsmen who worked against him? By the way, aside from the religious disagreements that had started coming up, where did you find the tribal disagreement? NRC’s VP candidate was from the SE and yet the aggregate showed that the people of the SE voted for Abiola/Kingibe. Is that correct it not? Did you see the total number of votes counted across the SE? Did you think about the same tribe, who voted in Delta, Rivers and other states for the same Abiola who they believed in? Statistics are there to show you. Now have you soon forgotten that that Abiola’s family accused NADECO of working against their father? By the way, look through this link and give your opinion: https://saharareporters.com/2021/06/12/meet-judases-june-12-who-betrayed-mko-abiola# Why have you not considered that Justice Ikpeme did not have a choice with his midnight ruling, seeing that he was a judge under a military government? Professor Nwosu was in the middle of reading out the results when he was stopped, remember? Why did he not continue, if he would dare in a military government? If IBB would not spare his childhood friend Mamman Vatsa in 1990, why would he spare Ikpeama and Nwosu? We are not fighting anyone’s war. Let’s look at history and use the opportunity to correct certain misunderstandings with decorum. Let’s also use the opportunity to learn more about the things that we never knew. |
Akpakomiza2:Clearly you are a blind APC follower. You have just proven that to me. So now you have agreed that all Senators are equal? Your words here are so contradictory and have shown that you do not take your time to read. You asked me to read the Senate rule book? I quoted order 6 and 10 from it before now to you. Without an understanding of it, Mr. Armchair lawyer, you drew your conclusion. Have you taken your time to read it? Maybe you are too focused on how Okpebolo will defeat Ighodalo at the tribunal, denying yourself the opportunity of knowing what’s going on around the federation. Everyone, including Akpabio and Natasha know that you do not speak until you are recognized. Akpabio hypocritically asked Munguno to repeat order 6 to him as if he did not know it. If there was no issue, Akpabio simply would have asked her to go to her seat for recognition. That would solve the matter. Watch the video dispassionately. Did you not notice the mockery on the part of Akpabio when he asked which faction of PDP the decampees belonged to? Another thread opened showing the same Akpabio, in the same setting, with Saraki as the President. You can do well to help yourself to look at the video. See how Saraki handled it and sorted out the matter. Your senate is not supposed to be a lawless place, yet your senators are lawless right inside their chamber, sometimes physically fighting themselves right inside the chamber? You no get head to think? Your head na fowl head? If the clash that they had before was immaterial to you, has common sense not told you that the immaterial matter still lingers in their hearts? Did you not hear Akpabio asking Senator Karimu to leave the matter for another time? Has that not told you that the matter will come up in the future in one way or the other? As an Akparutu lawyer that you are, have you not noticed that it’s all politics and power? |
BreconHills:So when Abiola scored 883k votes in Lagos, it was only the Yorubas who voted for him? Abiola ran on a Muslim/Muslim ticket right. When he won by that wide majority in Anambra state, it was not a Muslim/Muslim ticket? The large votes scored in the rest of the SE and SS were not on the Muslim/Muslim ticket? So some of you have not been told that the 1993 elections had no business with tribe and religion? Why do some of you not take your time to clearly read the information at your disposal, reason deeply before commenting. Or you think that politicians who came up after 1999 could ever be compared with those who were there before and up to 1993? |
ogaemma:But your initial comment did not show that you knew what you were talking about. |
Now can you see the difference between a smart, decent/well trained leader (Saraki) and an arrogant leader (Akpabio)? Saraki respectfully and gently asked Akpabio to go to his seat and he would be recognized to make his contribution. If Akpabio approached Natasha the same way testerday, that issue would not have gone that way, possibly. Now for those who just talk for talking sake, especially APC supporters, please remember that the social media does not forget. Remember to look at matters dispassionately. All we want is a good country. We want good leaders, irrespective of political affiliation. |
Hm |
If he has consulted with lawyers, then they must move on. |
Lovelyflower:Exactly what Akpabio is turning the Senate into. Using his seat and position, he started by mocking the PDP openly and asking which faction of the PDP decamped. That’s it his first time. The video was clear that Munguno and Akpabio disrespected the lady. Munguno appeared that he was waiting for her to make an error. He went ahead to tell the SP what to do when he said that Natasha would deprive her constituents of representation, if she failed to move. The SP acted on all. Asking Munguno to repeat the words of Order 6 was a pretence. He also read it and wanted Munguno to repeat for emphasis. Again, seeing that seats had been rearranged, Senator Munguno should have spoken with her long before they all sat for the day’s business. That public show would not have come up. Akpabio also had it within his power as the President to give her the chance of defending herself right from where she was. He could have added his voice, listened to her and make her move to her newly allocated seat. Obviously Akpabio had been spoiling for war with Senator Natasha. After listening to Munguno, he acted like they were in the barracks. Her dressing was not improper. If you are not close to her, how can you prove that her glasses are not for some eye issues? There are people who have challenges with lights and need such glasses to help their vision. |
Akpakomiza2:Go and sit down Akpakomiza. Stop been silly, insultive and blinded by your crude support of APC. Your response is absolutely unintelligent please. You are the one who needs to correct himself here. Where’s the hatred for Akpabio coming from? If your leader performs badly, how does demanding for proper conduct translate to hatred? You must learn to look at issues from the two ends. APC membership should not take away the ability to reason rationally. Even though the position of the Senate President is unique, his so called superiority is mostly procedural and administrative and not in the absolute terms. His duty is to ensure efficient legislative processes, preside over plenaries and maintain order. In terms of legislative responsibilities and powers, they are equal. If you like you can go and sit in the courts and tribunals, as you always claim to find out. All Senators are equal, irrespective of their positions, they have equal voting rights and powers to propose bills, participate in debates and perform other legislative functions. “What happened before them is immaterial”. No wonder the country is in this horrible state. If it was immaterial, why then did it become such a big issue? If it was immaterial, why then did Senator Karimu claim that he was slighted in the process by Senator Natasha. If it was immaterial, why then did Akpabio ask that the matter rather than get referred to the ethics committee, should be left for another day. If you are not sure of the facts of the matter, all you need to do is to check and ask for the exact details, otherwise you must shut your own mouth. |
dynicks:One said that Obi was looking for where to attend condolences and funerals. Some youths are here, with no sense whatsoever, making remarks that are injurious to themselves. |
EXOUSIAng:Then he must be busy looking for your house for condolence and funeral. |
Svoboda:He gave opportunities to not just Prince Arthur Eze, but the likes of Folorunsho Alakija, etc, but he ruined his friend MKO Abiola. He started the damage to the Nigerian economy. While we accuse politicians since 1999, we have tended to overlook the evil done to our economy by the military from Dec 31, 1983 until 1999, when the military left power. All their loot, they went away with. |
Akpakomiza2:The Chief Whip, Mr. Munguno assigned her to a new seat to cover up for the void that was created by the Senators who decamped to APC. Standing on Order 24 as his authority to arrange the business of the house and Order 6, that authorizes Akpabio as the SP to give new seats to Senators, the Chief Whip wanted Senator Natasha to move to the newly allocated seat. Munguno, a Senator, is an APC man, who have more seats in the house and Natasha is in the opposition. We did not hear the words exchanged between them initially. Did Munguno speak lightly or roughly with her? Since there was a change, did Munguno not have enough time before seating commenced to inform her of the change? That Senate chamber is a battle ground and everyone of them knows what everyone knows. Read the below: Order 6: Seat of Senators. (1) The President of the Senate shall allocate a seat to each Senator. (2) A Senator may only speak from the seat allocated to him, provided that the President of the Senate may change the allocation from time to time. Order 10: Privilege. “Any Senator may rise at any time to speak upon a matter of privilege suddenly arising, and he shall be prepared to move, without Notice, a motion declaring that a contempt or breach of privilege has been committed, or referring the matter to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges, but if the matter is raised in Committee of the Whole Senate…” They made those rules and Natasha citing order 10, rose to speak. They are equals in the Senate and she must be treated with respect, irrespective of political affiliation. Last year in July or so, he walked her out of the Senate, telling her that they were not in a nightclub. That was very demeaning and Nigerians did not take it lightly with him. He appears to have special interest in her and tries to silence the young woman. She felt that her rights were getting violated all the time by Akpabio. Senator Natasha felt frustrated and accused Akpabio of deliberately silencing her voice and also denying her the opportunity to contribute to motions. She accused Akpabio of dehumanizing, maligning and discriminating against her. Again Akpabio had issues with Ireti Kingibe, who equally accused him of silencing her and he was accused of being against women. There should not have been issues in the first place, if all was well between the Senators. When the Sergeant at arms tried to approach her, did you not see how maturedly Senator Akobundu and co acted to prevent a further escalation? They first stopped her Mike and got her to calm down. Akpabio is the worst of all the Senate Presidents that we have had over the years. His arrogance stinks. His inability to handle sensitive matters is a complete disgrace. In all, thankfully peace was restored and certainly Senator Natasha should resume in her new seat today. |
Akpakomiza2:How was she wrong please? |
madridguy:No. He appears to pick on her sometimes. Akpabio is overbearing. Always uttering annoying words. |
Every reasonable person challenged IBB. However, there was the story that he was held to ransom by Sani Abacha and some other members of the then AFRC, who did not want to hand over power to Abiola, a professed dear friend IBB. Look at him today. While he’s alive, Chief Abiola and his second wife, Kudirat, lost their lives in the struggle. In order to save his own life, IBB made the famous “step aside” statement, ushering in the late Chief Ernest Shonekan. Abacha finally barred his fangs on that fateful night of the 17th of November 1993, when he used the official emblem of the head of state on his own vehicle, in his position as the defence minister. The next day 18th of November 1993, Abacha and his group of coupists overthrew Chief Ernest Shonekan. Abacha ruled the nation with an iron fist from 1993 to 1998 and allegedly looted the economy along with his sons, the late Ibrahim and Mohammed, Gwarzo, Paul Oguma (the CBN governor), etc. As for me, I think that IBB’s economic policies set the nation on the part of trouble. Even though Shagari’s government was accused by the same Buhari/IBB/Idiagbon of corruption, however, IBB/Abacha era was on an unbelievable scale of massive looting. IBB asked Nigerians if they preferred an IMF loan or SAP. Nigerians fell for it, rejected the IMF loan. IBB along with his then finance minister, Kalu Idika Kalu, followed up and SAP was introduced. Nigerians entered the era of suffering or what is popularly termed “one chance bus”. The naira was devalued. SFEM was ushered in and the destroyed the naira. The problem with our naira started with IBB’s government. The years of military leadership for me were years of losses. They could have taken the opportunity to make our cities, states and communities better developed than they were when they bowed out in 1999. |
ogbonti:“ Under Abacha, there was massive international sanctions against Nigeria because of June 12- YET, there were no fuel queues, there were no kidnappings, armed robber was almost non existent- workers salaries were paid and when due, Nigerians could sleep with their 2 eyes closed, the Dollar was exchanging for $1 to N65 black market and in the bank $1 to N22”. I am very sure that you are less than 25 years old. This comment shows that you have no idea at all of the Abacha era. Please ask elders around you how it was in the a Abacha days. |
amaridigital:Go and correct yourself. If you are not informed properly, ask those who were old enough to tell you how it went. If there was a tribe that was sad, it must be in your imagination. In Anambra state, Abiola scored 212,000 votes to defeat Tofa, who scored 159,000 votes. Sylvester Ugoh, was Vice Presidential candidate of Tofa, and yet he was voted against. Abiola scored 883,000 votes in Lagos state. Were you born that year, to be old enough to vote or even stand on the queue. Carry that you yeye tribal and childish comment away from here. I do not need you to tell me to do a research. My information to you is first hand because I was personally there all through. Abiola received votes from all, irrespective of tribe and religion. He was a man whose deeds were loved by all, irrespective of tribe and religion. Arthur Nzeribe was simply a tool used by Babangida’s government to truncate the election. He surely must have been paid handsomely to carry out that horrible act. You must blame IBB and his AFRC members who were DEFINITELY not willing to hand over Abiola. That irresponsible act of IBB cost too many Nigerian lives. |
He brought this nation to its knees from the day he overthrew Buhari in 1985. IBB and the members of his then Armed forces ruling council played this country and the entire citizens from 1985 until 1993, allowing Abacha to overthrow Shonekan in 1993, to further add misery to a grieving nation. Babangida’s years are just like the back of my hand. Shagari’s so called corruption years were nothing compared to IBBs. Babangida was known as chop - I - chop. It was Babangida who introduced the obnoxious import license regime, which was obtained by allocation, ending the open general import regime of the then Shagari’s regime. Import licenses were only given to the rich and well connected, who sold them at very huge sums, making billions for themselves. Shagari completed the Kaduna refinery. Textile mills worked. Motor factories worked. There were jobs everywhere. The minimum wage was 200 naira as of 1983 and workers were happy. Rents were easy to pay. Lands were cheap to purchase. Many also got lands for free. Shagari heralded Nigeria’s industrial revolution when he started the construction of Ajaokuta Steel Mill but could not complete it before his overthrow by IBB in December 1983. The Petroleum institute Warri was built by Shagari. Shagari built the Aluminium smelter company, Ikot Abasi in 1982, including Kaduna, Jos and Osogbo. Shagari completed the Delta Steel company also. He built the Bakalori Dam in Sokoto State, South Chad Irrigation Scheme, Borno State, Dadin Kowa Dam Bauchi State, Goronyo Dam Sokoto State, and Zobe Dam, Kastina State, Ogun river dam, Kafin Zaki dam in Bauchi state. He had too many projects. Shagari moved the nation forward following Obasanjo. IBB set the nation back with his famous SAP. He devalued our currency when he introduced the second tier foreign exchange market in 1986. The naira which could be bought and sold on all streets all over the world, effectively began its setback and failure. You could carry your naira cash and get it exchanged wherever you went on the streets on Europe and USA. Babangida ruined everything. June 12 was a happy day for all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe and religion. Babangida conducted a very free and fair election on one hand and with the other ruined it. Option A4 was clean, clear, straight forward and accepted by all. Nobody snatched any ballot box. Nobody fought anybody. There were no emkz, madridguy, seunmsg, and other tribalists like them on Nairaland on that day. All voted happily, shaking hands, sharing drinks. Everyone knew the results from the polling booths. Abiola won the election, with no doubt from all and no objection from Ibrahim Tofa, his opponent. |
Iweakbro:Which of the towns or villages in Oshimili North please? |
Iweakbro:Where are you from please? |
Fantastic! |
Iweakbro:Please tell us what they are doing in Asaba and Ogwashi Uku. Tell us also why you used the words “Igbo fools”. |
Since there is a charge sheet and they are not appearing yet, is it not appropriate to have them arrested, detained and brought to court? |
OP were those pictures taken in the home? Is their a stadium right inside their home? You said that they workout in their home. |
sweetjohn:Very well described. He fit into all. A very reckless, boastful and overconfident disgusting fellow, whose joy is to see the destruction of people’s hard earned images. He’s exposing himself to deep trouble. |
9jatriot:Thanks. |
simpleseyi:Oh, thanks. Do you recall if the Governor complied? |
Then what happened in the case of Edo state? Did Lateef Fagbemi call the attorney general of Edo state to order? Should it be different strokes for different folks? |
Sensiblerealist:Unfortunately there will be no soft landing for him. If he pays a good lawyer, who can prove that he did not participate in the attack, then he can avoid jail. Anything short of that will keep him in jail for between six months and two years. Hopefully he can learn some lessons and be calmer with his public conduct. For people like us, we wish that he can avoid jail. All our showbiz people give us joy. |
Sensiblerealist:Na you illiteracy worry pass. He was declared wanted by THE NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE. The Nigerian police force is the same everywhere and anywhere in the country. All he needed to do was to report to any branch of the force, irrespective of city, town, state or village. Declaring him wanted was a nationwide order for his arrest or surrender. All Police formations nationwide, therefore had the authority to arrest him wherever he was found. If he was found by any police man or even members of other security agencies, including Amotekun, etc, he would be arrested. If you read the story well, you’d have noticed that Panti street where he reported, had contacted Abeokuta where the case is, notifying them of his surrender and to come and pick him up. The same would have happened if he surrendered in Zamfara state, Jigawa, Sokoto or any other state. All the Nigerian police wanted was for him appear, either peacefully or forcefully. |
That’s more dignifying. |
