Please guys if you notice something strange about someone around you, and you feel you have the ability to approach, don't judge and run into hasty conclusions. I had to bring this here maybe I could get some helpful advice here as I am really clueless about what to do about her.

My younger sister is too dull. She is not smart and brilliant at all. She doesn't love studying at all. She is doing so poor in school due to her lackadaisical attitude towards studying. I have tried to talk her and advice her into studying, but she will just looking through it as if she doesn't know what she is reading and all.

During the time she was doing WAEC and NECO, you won't even know she was writting exam. My mum bought textbooks for her but she will end up misplacing them since she won't read them. What she enjoy doing most is just to eat,sleep and all these children story books. She is now fat like Bleep.

I always try to make her study or sometime even force her but there is little I can do for her as I can't put all the book in her head and I am not even always around because I'm in school.

I helped her check her waec result yesterday, and what I saw made me sad. She failed 6 subjects and passed only 3 subjects which she even had only C5 and C6.

I don't know what do to about her because I am tired. I don't want her to gain admission into the university with this kind of spirit because it's not going to help her at all. What can I do for her? How can I help her become more serious and become a better girl. She is 17.

Useful Advices will be highly appreciated.

Sorry about your plight. Well,like what the first commenter said,people are not necessarily their behaviour cos we are being controlled by a nervous system we are not in full control of. So,understanding the underlying factors is important. I remember I was the dullest in primary one. while others celebrate the term results with powders,those of us that were otondos used white chalks. But things changed when I changed school(to a private school). Just in the second term,I could read and write; came out third position. I went on to dominate till I rounded off secondary school. In the University I was determined to do well until health crises changed that dream.
So it is my opinion that your sister may be dull due to the schools she attended or the peer group she has. Or,it could be a developmental issue. According to Linguists,learning capabilities is both an innate and reinforced gifts.

Yes,and I equally asked for any other advice. It is a pity though. It is very hard for me,cos coming online to asked of help was never an act I envisaged. But life happens. I just want my health back,and I could work with my hands n head. P.s. I had an accident some 14yrs ago that impacted on my lumbar discs 1n2. Since I was still growing, my body weight puts pressure on the discs. I feel terrible tingling n numbness on left leg,constant migraines n mood swings. It is hell. I am always on painkillers n ointments.

You can be harsh all you want, I'll take it but do you know the reason you think people don't care about person who are suicidal is because they don't speak out. Except you have some supernatural powers there is no way you'll differentiate people who are depressed from those who are not.

So please when anyone is depressed before thinking of even committing suicide speak out and people like us will listen to them.

Hmm. Word! Nice you are different. I have asked for help on this forum trice and all turned me down(in fact one cursed me join). I don't know for others, but for me, the most depressing part of life is not the challenge one have at hand(it soothes being around those who care),but being ignored by people after opening up. People don't know that it takes a lot of battling of one's ego to open up; it is like loosing your self esteem. But then you get ignored. That hurts the most. And then you see those same people talk about love and all that,too.

That is why it is better to just move out of your parent's house after graduating if their expectations and your dreams are not aligned. They will make the life hell for you there.
