The likes of Awolowo, Tinubu, Buhari, e.t.c are very tribalistic people. That is why they lack true national appeal, coupled with their bigotry. Awolowo started tribal politics, and we can see how dangerous it is. He may have hoped to run his region like a personal estate that is why he clamoured for a secession clause at a very young age of the country when focus should have been on national unity. And we saw the crisis that resulted from such politics during the wild wild west crisis.
