PoliticsRe: Would You Give Up Your Car For A Bicycle? by ElRazur: 5:25pm On May 13, 2009
Kobojunkie:
I remember back some years ago, riding bikes in Nigeria was no big deal. People used to transport their wares to and fro the markets on their bikes. Even farmers travelled to their farms on bikes. I sincerely believe we need to start thinking of alternative and cheaper means to help save us all money and also help free up the roads.
True talk.

In places like Ekit, Ondo and outskirts or Ilorin - Omuo'aran etc. It is not uncommon to see farmers using a bike as their main source of transport.

The traffic situation is so bad in Lagos that I prefer taking Okada than the car. One of the many reasons I just refuse to have a primary base in Lagos.

As for freeing up the road, I personally think a few of our roads needs expanding, our road users need to be trained - I wonder how many people really have a proper driving licence on Nigerian road. Or better still, how many of these people took a test and went to a driving school? It sucks when with the right amount of money, one can get a Nigeria Driving Licence just like that. shocked

REAL TRUTH:
@ElRazur:Can you listen to yourself talking? is that the best advice you can,,that he should disregard his parents blessings. That is the most stupid thing anybody can do.
No may be you should listen to yourself. Parents should not come in between the choice of their children. Period.

Why ask for their blessing if they do not respect his choice? huh Let me ask you, are you the type who systematically forces your kid [if you have one] to do your will and not theirs?

Are you talking about a bicycle or a bike here? huh

@ post
Road bike is sometimes used for "Competition bicycles" like the ones you see in "Tour de france". The are designed primarily for use on the road since they do not come with suspension springs, but instead have a very light frame and low profile tyres. smiley

PoliticsRe: Would You Give Up Your Car For A Bicycle? by ElRazur: 1:46pm On May 13, 2009
People people people! Some of you are missing the point. The. Idea is not about riding bike to long distance places. Instead, it is meant for short journeys. For example, in the cenral london an experiment was done to see which is quicker for getting to places. The bicycle was found to be faster overall for journeys under 6 miles ( about 8.5 km or so). Most people in busy parts of big cities in Nigeria may live close their work place, and as such ideal for them. To use bicycle.

Also people who are going on short distance journey may also use bicylces. This will overall help cut down the unnecessary journey times and lower traffic. I think that is the idea.

busi-bodi:
Nigeria is not UK or EU.

Even Chinese have dumbed their bicycles for luxury cars.
So you do have a bit of civility/civilness in you? Keep it up.

I really do not see how this have to do with the UK. People have always turned to alternative form of transport, when the roads becomes congested - bicycle, mopeds, "power" bikes are just a few example.

Before you go talking about china, more people have bikes, mopeds, bicycles than cars over there. If you have also taken time to read my post, instead of looking for flaws just for the sole purpose of bickering.  I mentioned already how nigeria's road is not particularly friendly and as such, may discourage a lot of people. This is evident in post made by few people already.

No but people like you should be banned from civillisation. You ain't even fit for the zoo either, it would be an insult to the animals. smiley

@Topic
I once had this discussion before and quite a few people feels ridding a bike to work is a blow to their social ego and status. I suppose it is something ingrained in our culture? Bicycle is for kids, bike for boys and cars for men? Lol.
PoliticsRe: Would You Give Up Your Car For A Bicycle? by ElRazur: 10:03am On May 13, 2009
Over here I am a keen cyclist! I use a road bike - an all aluminium frame with shimano gears. I use it mostly when my journeys are less than 6miles radius. Only use the car if necessary.

As for cycling in Nigeria, I am more than happy to do it, however I wont be using a road bike, but instead an all terrain bike as it is more suitable for our road. Also another factor that may determine if people would cycle is the attitude of other road users. Quite frankly, there isn't manners or common sense on Nigeria's road. That may put a lot of people off. smiley

In the light of recent thin-veiled threats by the like of Tombola and his cronies [or duplicate accounts]. I am suggesting a few people meet up via email or yahoo/msn chat to organise final location. I am not particularly afraid of any threats, but at the same time let us not take chances. Some of us have seen how irrational people can be here at times.

Since me and Sagamite are trying to put this together, I suppose we can communicate via methods off the forum so as to keep certain information private. It would be nice if PM option is activated on the forum though. For the purpose of this proposal, you can reach me on "myforumname"@yahooDOTcom.

What do you guys think?

We may think Tombola is all joking and what not, but check this out.

Who give a shi.t about religious differences when two people are in love? Your parents and her parents should hang their heads in shame in my opinion! This is 2009, people need to get a flipping grip.

If you are famous like R kelly, then it could have been a look-alike fan posing as you I guess.

If you have a twin brother, or she wasnt sure it is you, Then on those grounds you can say it wasn't you.

Usually, if you deny it for long, the woman will be forced to check are sanity and it most cases conclude it wasn't you. smiley

Best location and venue Pretty much flexible.

Desired date/weekend period  weekend would be the ideal time.

Financial approach Willing to help with putting event together, and organise if necessary. Plus any monies that may be required for my part.

Desired amenities: Tv [confirmed], friendly people, Drinks [non-alcoholic], Music.

Early July is the best I can make - late July/August will be mad for me.

Why must a PS3 be involved  huh Don't y'all play enough games at home? This is supposed to be a social gathering - having games that a significant proportion of people will not be interested in will simply divide the group into at least two fragments which defeats the purpose.
Clearly you haven't been to events where geeks from the intraweb are meeting up. Some of us are gamers at heart, and while a few of us have bragged about our gaming abilities, it makes sense for those who want to have a game of two together. Gaming is just one of the activities. Those who don't like it can always do something else. smiley

debosky:
In my view, venue selection remains the biggest issue. If you're thinking of someone's house, how many nl peeps have big houses with gardens in London or have access to one? If we can get that sorted then other issues can be dealt with.
There are people with houses with gardens, whether we will be able to get one from NL is just another thing entirely. smiley

Sagamite:
Surely their are volunteer DJs on NL.

I am against SouthEnd Beach because it will increase expense for people, which will act as a deterrent. A place in London with easy transportation access preferred.

Also we will need to plug the PS3 Pro Evo Soccer games and TV, so the beach is not it. Although it is only possibly to have this if someone is volunteering their home.

We can contribute and pay someone to use their home.
I suppose we can drum up attention via the music forum? Something like a thread asking for volunteer DJs, but then as with Volunteering, you get what you pay for lol.

The beach is probably not the best place. But then, if people want it to happen there, they just have to let us know.

Anyone with a big garden will do.
Car TalkRe: Odometer Reading Vs. Engine Performance by ElRazur: 6:23pm On May 12, 2009
It is one of the many reasons it is advisable to get the odometer verified. While your example is not a proof or link in anyway, it should be noted that some engines have been recorded to go all the way to 999999km and then roll back into 000000km without much problem - recorded in an old Volvo. smiley

Also engines like those with the VTEC have been known to go into similar odometer readings as above without much issue.

I must say that, a low mileage and engine longevity are not always linked. It is possible to have a car with very low mileage - less than 5000miles - and still show plenty of mechanical problems. This is common with Pegeout in my experience. I hope that helps.

If you want to keep your car engine at the optimal performance, use genuine parts and avoids fake brands. Engage common sense when driving your car. Keep things like fluid oil etc top up regularly. I suppose the most important one, is to actually let people who know what they are doing and have the right tools to service your car.
