PoliticsRe: Forget Ogbunigwe, Ever Heard Of Autonov 1? by emiye(m): 3:12am On Nov 14, 2011
I really dont know much about the Ogbunigwe, but i am sure Inventing what will destroy takes very less ingenuity(you can ask boko haram).  I think the Prof's invention 40 years ago had some clear objectives. You can not be looking at a thirld world country invention of 1970 with the eye of 2011.

The objectives are quoted below

While as a lecturer in the University of Lagos, Awojobi successfully converted his own family car, an Opel Record, from right-hand drive to a left-hand drive.[10]

He tinkered further with motor engines when he acquired an army-type jeep and proceeded to invent a second steering wheel mechanism, adjoined to the pre-existing engine at the rear end, so that the vehicle was able to move in both forward and backward directions with all four pre-existing gears.[11] This gave the hybrid vehicle, which he christened Autonov 1, the ability to achieve its highest speeds at a moment's notice, in the normal reverse direction. He highlighted the advantage this might offer to army vehicles, as an example, that might need to make a fast retreat, in a cul-de-sac or ambush situation.[12]

Beaf:
Ilesa?
The trademark of the freely slapping Aregbesola hangs like an odious pall over ACN. Its the same culture from Osun to Lagos.
he Chairman, Ilesa West Local Government Area, Osun State, Mr. Ibukun Fadipe, was on Sunday detained by the police for assaulting the Chairman of DHL Limited, Chief Ade Komolafe, at a filling station in Imo, Ilesa.

Fadipe, popularly called IBK, who drove in an unmarked private car, was said to have attempted to jump the queue at the petrol station but was resisted by Komolafe who had patiently waited for his turn on the queue.

Witnesses said many other motorists joined Komolafe to stop Fadipe who allegedly ignored the protestations and insisted on being served before any other person.

Fadipe, who felt affronted by the resistance championed by Komolafe, left the petrol station in annoyance to invite a group of youths who stormed the station to unleash terror on hapless motorists.

A witness said Komolafe was the object of Fadipe’s fury. His men pounced on the old man and smashed two of his Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and many others.

Komolafe, who sought medical attention in a private hospital in the town, recounted how Fadipe reportedly led the assault on him and members of his family.

His words: "My wife and I had just returned from Ifewara where she was honoured with a chieftaincy title. We were still basking in the euphoria of the good thing that God had done on that fateful day before our celebration was turned into mourning.

"My in-laws who had joined us on the journey wanted to return to their destination and went to a filling station to get some fuel.

"At the filling station, all vehicles had maintained a queue and were being attended to until an unknown man who was dressed in a short and a traditional dress, later identified as the Chairman of Ilesha West Local Government, Mr. Ibukun Fadipe, jumped the queue to create disorder; but those who were there couldn’t take what the man wanted to do but were reluctant until my in-laws, who obviously didn’t know him, left their cars to call him to order.

"When they approached him, to correct his undoing, he threatened to deal with them but they were not bothered as they were bent on ensuring orderliness. Immediately, he stormed out of the filling station, hopped on a motorcycle and left only to appear after a few minutes with some thugs who severely beat my in-laws and injured seven of them."

Komolafe went on: "The thugs with their boss also succeeded in forcibly removing two of my 62-year-old mother-in-law’s teeth when she tried to persuade them to stop their shameful act.

"The news of the unpalatable event got to me and I immediately left home for the petrol station. On getting there, I tried all I could to calm him down, but instead, he got angry the more and would not heed the voice of reason. They smashed two of my cars; my Highlander and Armada jeeps were damaged. He used a cutlass to cut the bonnet of the cars, shattered windscreen and punctured the tyres. Fadipe didn’t stop at that; he also hit me with a big log.

"At the moment, the police are taking down statement from my in-laws. They have also promised me protection but I must confess it is a terrible thing, if such assault can be done to me in my own town.

"I am a well-known person in the state. I founded DHL in this country.

"I want to appeal to the Osun State government, that Fadipe shouldn’t be the overall chairman of Osun State. He shouldn’t be higher than the King of Ilesha but he has been representing Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola everywhere."

But, when contacted for his side of the story, Fadipe said he was the one beaten by "those instigated by the chief."

Asked to give a vivid account of what transpired at the petrol station, Fadipe declined.

He said the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, had "settled the matter".

He said both sides were pacified and forbidden from making comments to the press.

When pressed further to clarify the circumstances, Fadipe rained expletives on the reporter.

He said: "What is your problem. I said the matter has been settled and you are still probing. I don’t have time for you. You can write whatever you want."

Then, he began to rain abuses and called the reporter names.

The Nation

gathered that the case that was initially reported by Komolafe at the nearest police station in Ilesa on Sunday was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo.

Fadipe was invited, detained and later granted bail after the intervention of some political bigwigs.

Police spokesman Clement Akinola confirmed the incident.

A source said Fadipe might have deliberately targeted Komolafe for "repeatedly refusing overtures to join the PDP."

The prominent businessman, however, would not confirm the speculation.

PoliticsBoko Haram Vs Fg Peace Initiator Receives Death Threats by emiye(op): 1:36am On Nov 12, 2011
http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/26039-boko-haram-peace-talks-initiator-gets-death-threats-reveals-why-dialogue-is-stalled.html

The man who facilitated the September peace talks between a faction of the Boko Haram sect and former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been receiving death threats from unknown persons who are opposed to any such dialogue.
The representative of the pro-dialogue faction, Baba Kura Fugu, who received Chief Obasanjo in his Maiduguri residence on Thursday, September 15 for the talks was shot dead 48 hours after by the opposing faction.
The peace talks have since been on hold with members of the sect launching co-ordinated bomb and gun attacks in Maiduguri, Damaturu and Potiskum, penultimate Friday. About 150 lives were lost in the mayhem.
But now, Kaduna-based civil rights activist, Malam Shehu Sani, says the country would have been spared this agony if the Federal Government had agreed to negotiate with the sect after the Maiduguri talks.
Speaking to The Nation, Mallam Sani said: “When we came back from Maiduguri after meeting with the Boko Haram family and they gave some suggestions and ideas on the way out of this crisis, I believe that the former President took their demands to the government and I suspect that his suggestions were received, but obviously not honoured.
“I believe that there are two forces battling to gain President Jonathan’s attention on the way out of this issue. On the one hand are those who do not believe in violence and are disposed to dialogue as a way of finding amicable settlement. On the other hand, you have those who believe in the use of the military to diminish and bring down the group.
”By my understanding of this group, I do not believe that the military can bring down this group because they are not a conventional group that is out on the street or resides in the bush in a face me, I face you formation. They act in a guerilla fashion. They strike and withdraw and believe in surprises as a tool in prosecuting their violent campaign.
“We should also understand that in the last three years, the same kind of violence has been used against the group and each time the government thinks it has diminished the group, you see them coming out stronger. Many people do not understand the group; but from my own contact with the group, I have found them to be a highly organised force of young men who are very deadly and determined in what they are doing and at the end of the day, those who will suffer are innocent citizens.
“So, our trip to the group, which I facilitated, I believe is the best way out of this violence. The issue that sparked off this violence was the killing of Mohammed Yusuf and others in 2009 and till today, there has never been an attempt by government to reach out to the families of these people or to address the issue, apart from the belated prosecution of the policemen that carried out the killing.
“I was the first person to make contact with the Boko Haram group. The commanders and family members are dreaded and are seen as monsters who cannot be approached. But I single-handedly took the risk of reaching out to them. I believe all the government needs to do is to support and back up any attempt that will end the crisis.
“However, it appears that the Federal Government is resolute in employing force to dislodge the group. Otherwise, it would have given our initiative some attention. Despite the killing of Baba Kura Fugu, who hosted us, we were not willing to abandon the initiative because the main Boko Haram group made it clear that they were not party to the killing of Baba Kura Fugu. They have said that they cannot kill one of their own and they are even in support of the initiative, which I have started.
“For that to have happened and nobody is doing anything, all that people like me can do is to fold our arms and watch, because if I can take the risk of reaching out to the Boko Haram group and the government, on the other hand, is not willing to implement some of the ideas and suggestions they were given, there is nothing anybody can do about it.
”What were the ideas they were given towards the resolution of this crisis? First, there was the need to rebuild their houses, their mosques and schools that were demolished from 2009 to 2010. Secondly, there is the need to release some of their members currently in detention.
“Thirdly, there is the need to scale down military presence in Maiduguri in phases, which has not been able to end some of the activities of the group, but has led to gross human right violations and turned the people against the military and other security agents in Borno State.
“If you go to Borno State now, people have more fear for the security agents than they have for the Boko Haram group. The next thing we have said is that the government should symbolically honour the court ruling that says it should compensate the family of Mohammed Yusuf.
“Now, if they had started implementing these suggestions, which were part of our agreement with the Boko Haram group, you could then have a way out. But the government is only giving credence to the use of force and the implementation of the Gatalari Committee, which the Boko Haram’s main stream, led by Shikau, has said they don’t want to have anything to do with.
“If the Boko Haram group said they are not opposed to my own initiative but are opposed to the committee set up by government, all they need to do is to support this initiative. I have nothing to gain other than bringing an end to this orgy of violence and restoring peace in this country. But for now, I can tell you that I do not think that the government has taken President Obasanjo’s submission seriously. They are just interested in the use of force”.
He, however, still expresses hope in the peace process in spite of government’s refusal to dialogue with the group, saying: “For now, I have not ruled out the possibility of continuing with the talks. But there is no way I can continue with the peace initiative if the government has not shown much interest in what I am doing.”
Sani said he has received various forms of threat as a result of his peace initiative, adding: “I have been receiving threats and it has to do with the fact that I initiated a peace process that will bring an end to violence and the threats are very specific, that I should end the process of bringing the government and Boko Haram to end this thing.
“I do receive text messages and calls telling me this is what it is. I do not think that this is something that my family members agree that I should get involved in. In fact, many of them believe that I should just sit back like others and watch. My take is that there is a socio-economic and political implication to what is happening now. It is not human to fold your hands and see hundreds of human lives being wasted; neither is it human to sit back when you know that you can make an impact. It is not human to see violence take over your country and you sit back when there is something you can do.
“What I feel is that this is my own contribution. Other people, especially in this part of the North, have chosen to remain silent either because they don’t like the government and the saying that the enemy of your enemy is your friend or because they are afraid of voicing out or taking any initiative or for the fact that they are simply not concerned. They may think that the Boko Haram group will target them if they are opposed to them.
“I know that the Boko Haram are well organised and can reach their target anywhere at any time and they may not be used to passing through the normal channels where their cars will be checked. As an organisation, they have their leader and a parliament called Shura and whatever they do, it is not just one person directing the affairs. They reach a collective decision on what they want to do, which is approved by their own parliament, which is the Shura.
“When you are dealing with such a group that also has spread across neigbouring countries, you should know that you are dealing with a very serious problem, which needs a very serious approach to handle”.

President Goodluck Jonathan has promised to deliver Lagos to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the party's presidentially rally in the state.

Addressing supporters and party chieftains at the Tafawa Balewa Square, venue of the rally, Jonathan pledged to improve the country's economy and infrastructure saying Lagos is the centre and it is where we must start.

In other to achieve this, the president said that he had directed the Federal Ministry of Works to immediately commence work on the Lagos International Airport Road and other federal roads in Lagos.

He said that a committee had been set up to address the issue of federal infrastructure in Lagos State, saying ``as a Federal Government, we are not intervening in the infrastructure of Lagos the way we should.

The president said that the Jonathan/Sambo administration would continue with the legacies of prominent South-West leaders such as the Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Bashorun MKO Abiola and others in improving the welfare of the people of Lagos.

Nope.
We are not complaining yet, until he fails to build roads and needed infrastructure. He is not failing in that yet. He is just a very prudent governor, and people like that.
I am not very sure most folks from your state share the same feeling, maybe i am erroneously concluding from the reactions of NL's from your state.
I am behind him on his stand against doctors in the state. They are thieves, always striking, and not considering the interest of patients. The governor threatened to fire them and employ foreign (Indian) doctors. I support that. cool

My folks generally don't like paying taxes, but I know that Peter Obi is a prudent governor and less ambitious than say a Soludo. Anambra is still one of the most stable states in Nigeria financially. FACT.
Glad you see the analogy.

None of those moneybags have offered to pay the striking doctors in your state? have they?

Conclusion is that the figure is a sad statistics in reality for your state. I am also aware from Nairaland that your Governor has decided not to borrow.

That is what I thought before.
I was not wrong then.
The figure is very deceptive. But whoever wants to cook soup with it can go ahead. cool
I'm laughing though.
If that is what you thought before, then your earlier statement betrayed your thought.

I guess you won't hold your folks from this part of Anambra state who own high priced real estates in Nigeria(moneybags) ACCOUNTABLE for the bad roads in your state, the poor educational standard in state schools. and a greater part of the development you want in your state.

If you think development is slow or nil in your state, the man you hold responsible is PETER OBI, and maybe the local goverment chairpersons. Those developments need money.

If it is true you've got lots of those moneybags in your state, i suspect they are not appropriately taxed, if not your IGR should be higher than it is now. cool

Statistics is like the bikini. What it reveals is interesting; but folks are more interested in what it DOES NOT reveal, which is intriguing.[/color] - Senator Chuba Okadigbo cool

Take Anambra for instance. Four plots of land in Nnewi market was listed for N270M in the Nairalist site. I don't doubt that figure, because I know my town. Folks from this part of Anambra state own similar highest priced real estates in Nigeria, eg Banana Island Lagos and Asokoro district, hence the similarity of prices of Nnewi market land and those areas. Need I say more.

I was also reading where a Nigerian government official was saying that Nigeria is targeting $100 billion in remittances from the diaspora by 2015. That means the diaspora remits at least 1/5th of that already. Guess who remits most money in Nigeria? I know that no region beats SE in that. cool

All I can make out of the statistics here is that Anambra folks are not paying taxes; or that Peter Obi is not disturbing them for whatever reasons; maybe he is prudent enough with whatever he gets from the FG.
Let no one be fooled by this.
One man in Nnewi alone recycles for more money per annum than the figure allocated to Anambra state here. cool
I think i like the highlighted quote on statistics.

I am not quite sure you understand what the total revenue figures meant. It simply means what goes in to the hands of those you have elected. The revenue for "Administrative governance"
