Central Crime Branch officials in Bengali, India has arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian national for drug peddling and recovered 33 grams of MDMA and cocaine worth Rs 2 lakh from his possession.


The accused has been identified as Tony Lucky, a native of Enugu State. He was residing in Brindavan Nagar near Bagalur Main Road.

Based on a tip-off, a team of CCB sleuths raided a house in Brindavan Nagar on Thursday, August 1, and caught Lucky red-handed with the drugs.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Lucky had come to the city on a visiting visa and started selling drugs by sourcing it from his contacts in other metro cities.

He used to travel to Navi Mumbai regularly and is suspected to have a larger network.

The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered a stolen vehicle.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Haruna Muhammed, who confirmed the arrest said that in the early hours of Monday, August 5, at 03:30am, following intelligence report, Police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) arrested the suspects at Ojoto in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State.

They are: Emmanuel Amaechi, 35, Innocent Onyedikachi, 29 years, Obinna James, 20 years, Chukwuma Edeh, 22 and Tochukwu Owor, 27.

The suspects allegedly conspired and snatched a Toyota Camry 2009/2010 model at gunpoint in Onitsha from one Nzube Udegbu on the Sunday, August 9.

In its continuing effort at ensuring the satisfactory execution and completion of all Constituency Projects across the country through the Constituency Projects Tracking Group (CPTG) initiative, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has again recovered items worth N117,123,375.44 million from Senator Chukwuka Utazi, representing Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State.

The items covered by this amount and recovered from the legislator are 168 and 51 numbers of motorcycles and tricycles respectively. They were discovered to be stashed away in a compound in Mkpologu town of Uzo-Nwani Local Government Area, believed to be owned by the Senator.
ICPC findings indicated clearly that the contract for the procurement of the items was awarded on 23rd January 2018, under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the Senator's constituency projects.



Investigations have also shown that the companies awarded the contracts for the project are as follows: Al-Amir Int. Ltd., Du-Lumac Ltd., Com Technologies System Ltd. and Chumax Agency Ltd.



Additionally, ICPC recovered 203 grinding machines, 60 motorcycles and 5 transformers in the compound which had been procured under another constituency project. Thereupon the Commission impounded all the items and sealed the Senator’s compound.
The tricycles, motorcycles and grinding machines were meant to be distributed to the lawmaker’s constituents to empower them as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate poverty.

The Senator has pledged to ICPC that they would be distributed to beneficiaries on Tuesday 6th August, 2019.

While ICPC is investigating circumstances that led to the items being in the possession of the sponsoring legislator rather than the implementing agency, its officers will be on the scene to supervise the distribution.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted EFCC’s request to freeze the FCMB Operational Account number: 0998552074 of the Bauchi State government

The judge, which adjourned the matter till September 3rd, urged the commission to put the party concerned on notice of the order within 21 days. The anti-graft agency told the court that a crack team it constituted from its Gombe Zonal office, headed by a chief investigator, Mohammed Abdullahi, has already commenced investigation on the account.



It told the court that it had between May 24 and May 28, received an intelligence that the past administration in Bauchi State, overdrew the account to launder about N20billion that accrued to the state from the federation account.



EFCC, through its lawyer, Abubakar Aliyu, said a current balance of N11.5billion, was directly paid into the Bauchi State FCMB account from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, by the federal government. It alleged that the money laundering initiated by the past administration in the state, has been adopted by the current government of Senator Bala Mohammed.

Son of the ruler of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates has died in London.


Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, 39, was the owner of a British fashion label, named Qasimi, which has been in business since 2008.

Three days of mourning have been declared in the emirate and flags have been ordered to fly at half mast. Messages of condolences to his dad Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi have flooded in on social media from across the country.

In a statement the ruler's court also expressed condolences and offered prayers to Al Qasimi family.

Operatives of the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in an early morning raid on Saturday, June 22, 2019 arrested 16 suspected internet fraudsters at their hideout in Ughoton and Udu communities, Warri, Delta State.

The suspects who are between the ages of 20 to 30 were arrested sequel to intelligence report.
Items recovered from them at the point of arrest include laptop computers, iPhones, Android phones, ATM cards, and four exotic vehicles. The cars are Luxus ES330, GLK 4 Matic, Luxus RX 330 and Luxus ES350
The arrest of the fraudsters is one in the series by operatives of the Commission in line with the directive of the acting Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu to rid the entire country of internet fraud and cyber crime.
The suspects have made useful statements and will soon be charged to court.

Three people have been killed, about 20 kidnapped and 500 cattle stolen following a fresh attack in Maradun local government area of Zamfara State; the home town of Governor Bello Matawalle, who had recently gone to Dubai seeking for a solution to end the killing spree in the state he presides over.


According to the chairman of the local government, Ahmed Abubakar, the bandits stormed Faru village previous Monday and Bachiri on Saturday while an attack on Gama Giwa village was carried out on Sunday.
Abubakar said, “My local government is under siege. They are attacking our communities and villages. Virtually every day and the military manpower cannot overpower these people.
“We record between four and five attacks on a weekly basis. People are dying. Others are being kidnapped because the security forces are not well-equipped to fight these people.”

Africa Cup of Nations debutants Madagascar secured a first ever point at the tournament on Saturday after an entertaining 2-2 draw against Guinea in their Group B opener in Alexandria.

Guinea started without influential midfielder Naby Keita after his recent injury troubles but went ahead through Sory Kaba's confident finish on 34 minutes.
Indian Ocean islanders Madagascar, who were the first qualifiers for this year's tournament, replied early in the second half through Anicet Andrianantenaina.

An 18-year-old student from New York is suing Apple after being falsely identified and arrested for robbery using the company's facial recognition software.
The student, Ousmane Bah filed $1 billion lawsuit against the company on Monday, April 22.


In the lawsuit, the teenager claims that the software incorrectly identified him as the robber in multiple thefts in Apple Stores across several states, according to a report from The Verge.


A photo was reportedly a part of the warrant that was used to arrest Bah who vehemently denied that it was him in the image.

According to the New York Post, the thief in Boston stole $1,200 worth of merchandise from the store on May 31, 2018. The same person proceeded to steal more products in Apple Stores in Delaware, Manhattan, and New Jersey.
While Bah was arrested by the NYPD for the string of robberies on Nov. 29, 2018.


The student denied the allegations, saying that he was at his senior prom in Manhattan at the time of the robbery.
NYPD detective John Reinhold also confirmed that Bah was not the person caught in the surveillance camera at the Manhattan Apple Store. Reinhold also went on to explain in the lawsuit that Apple uses facial recognition technology to identify suspects of theft.


But a representative from Apple told The Verge that the company doesn't actually have facial recognition technology in their stores.

He said that on Feb. 2, God gave him further reason to prove that his mercy was upon him.
The vice president said he was going to Kogi for a two day campaign tour when his helicopter crashed as it got in to land at Kabba, Kogi State.

He said it was God’s mercy that he and his crew came out unscathed.

The provost of the College of Education (Technical), Umunze in Orumba South local government area of Anambra State, Dr Tessy Okoli has announced a ban by the management of the institution on cohabitation among students of different sexes on campus.

Okoli, who read what can be considered a riot act to students of the institution during a joint matriculation ceremony of NCE and degree students of the institution on Friday, said the management would not tolerate such behaviour from students.
She said the development, which has become a trend in various institutions of higher learning, would not be tolerated in the institution because it encourages immorality among student and constitutes huge distraction in academic work.
“This college management frowns at the sad development where young ladies live together with male students in off campus residential areas. We must put a stop to cohabitation since it encourages immorality and constitutes distraction to academic work,” The provost said.
She said students, who insist on this will not escape appropriate sanctions, while also calling on parents to consider school hostels for their wards, as they are equipped with surveillance gadgets, and also protected, security-wise, unlike the off campus residences.
“The college has good and spacious hostel accommodation for students. Management recently completed the installation of solar powered street lights on the main campus, to encourage nighttime activities.
“I urge parents to encourage their children to live in school hostels where surveillance and efficient monitoring are routinely carried out to avoid any unwanted incidence,” she added.
Okoli, who is just months old as the provost of the institution, told journalist during an interview session that she has worked for 26 years in the institution and has mastered it, and was ready to work for its growth, to ensure that it competes favourably with known Nigerian institutions of higher learning.
She expressed happiness that through its affiliate institution; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, its admission quota has been increased to meet the high demand of students wishing to study in the college.
