Politics / Are We Forming One Party System In Naija In The Name Of Unity by Engineer96(m): 7:23pm On Jul 06, 2010
Governors of Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra yesterday graced the reception organized for the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo. The governor’s show of solidarity and perceived new born desire for unity in the zone is coming less than 24 hours the Governors’ Forum agreed that none of them should contest the 2011 presidential elections or offer themselves as running mate to any candidate but to work together for the benefit of the people of the zone.

Tongues went wagging at the venue of the event, Okpara Square, Enugu over the presence of Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State who recently joined APGA from PPA but the arrival of Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, who is also the chairman, South-East Governors’ Forum, was enough to douse speculations that Orji may have decided to join the PDP.
Governor Obi, who received cheers from the crowd as he spoke, said the decision of the governors to attend the event was in line with the new spirit of unity, which the governors had vowed to uphold.

He noted that for the first time in the history of the zone, governors agreed to relegate personal interest to the base by accepting not to be a running mate or contest the 2011 presidential election but to support any candidate that would guarantee a better interest for the zone.
“We are not here to talk of this party or that party but we have come to honour a worthy son of Igboland for his appointment; his appointment is for the Igbo’s and we all are supporting him. We want Igbo unity.
“I have seen great Igbo sons here, and I want to use this opportunity to urge these illustrious sons to help us build a united zone.”
Governor Obi called for support and solidarity for the new party chairman and warned that for whatever reason, no Igbo man should attempt or join in any attempt to undermine his tenure as national chairman.

In his speech, the new Chairman, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, who could not hold back his joy said: “I am happy that the unity we have longed for in the zone is coming now that I am made the national chairman of the party; a unity we have not seen for a long time.
“By this show of unity, you are sending a message across the land that the Igbo’s can be united; that even if we have diversity, we are united. That we can sit at home and plan for Nigeria; that we want gains of democracy for our people not presidency or vice presidency.”
“Let this massage be spread that we have come to a stage where we look at merit, where we look at integrity, where we look at dignity not a time where leadership is based on tribe or religion. I am happy to be an Igbo man today and together we would build a great nation.”

“Our country has been bastardized, our country has been trampled upon, and the culprits are our own people. That is why I am on a mission of restoration in the values of the PDP that will in turn guide Nigeria. That’s why I urge you to join me in this new change, this new direction because it has profit and it is a journey that will uplift you and me.”
Nwodo promised to rebuild the party, entrench internal democracy and restore the confidence of Nigerians in the party. “We want to restore the power of the people to choose their leaders.
“Nobody in a democracy can take that power away from you; and to get your power back, all man made obstacles will be removed; we’ll break down all chains of slavery and intimidation.”
In his speech, representative of President Goodluck Jonathan, Alhaji Ahmed Ali Gonak, expressed happiness that the emergence of a new PDP chairman had re-united the South East.

“I will report back to Mr. President and I will tell him that if there are generals in the army, that we also have generals in politics; what is happening today is also a testimony that Nigeria has crossed the boundary of political maturity.”
He described both the emergence of the president and that of the national chairman as God’s intervention in Nigeria and urged the political leaders in the zone to maintain the unity initiative, which had already started to work.
Governor Sullivan Chime who was the chief host said the people of the state are happy to belong to PDP: “We are a big family here and I can tell you that all the major stakeholders in the state are all members of the party.”

He noted that the party in the state had long adopted internal democracy in its affairs employing dialogue and consultation and expressed hopes that the new national party chairman would further boost the party in the state.
Among politicians who attended the crowded ceremony were former Vice President Chief Alex Ekwueme, former Governor of old Anambra State Chief Jim Nwobodo, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, former military administrator of Imo State, Commodore Anthony Oguguo, former ambassador to Greece, Chief Frank Ogbuewu, former governor of Akwa Ibom, Obong Victor Attah.
Others are former Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani, Senator Ayogu Eze, Chief Nnia Nwodo, members of National Assembly from the zone as well as speakers from the five states of the zone.
Business / Money Palava In Naija, Wonders Shall Never End. by Engineer96(m): 7:21pm On Jul 06, 2010
The remains of a commercial driver, Ismai Ajayi, who committed suicide in front of his father’s house in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, were on Tuesday morning recovered by policemen.

The attention of his septuagenarian father was called to the corpse dangling from a rope in front of the building located around Queen Cinema in Ibadan North Local Government Area by some neighbours.

The 37-year-old father of two popularly called ‘Odeku’ was said to have returned from his base in Ada, Osun State, yesterday.

His grieving father told our correspondent amidst tears that although the deceased complained about his financial predicament openly, he never envisage that he could decide to commit suicide because of the issue.

The ailing father said he was returning from hospital where he was being treated for an undisclosed ailment when a neighbour called his attention to his son’s corpse.

He said that apart from the complaint of financial problem, he had no clear picture of the reason behind his late son’s action since the deceased did not leave any suicide note.
Family / Enugu Gov Sister-in Law In Efcc Net. by Engineer96(m): 7:15pm On Jul 06, 2010
Enugu state, Mrs. Ngozi Mgbeke will on Thursday (tomorrow) be arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before Justice Muhammed Bello of the Federal High Court in Enugu.

The offence, according a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Spokesperson of the EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi, bothers on obtaining money under false pretences; forgery and altering in which she would face an eight-count charge.

He said Mgbeke was arrested by operatives of the EFCC more than a year ago because of her fraudulent dealings and obtaining over N14m under false pretences after which she was granted administrative bail, preparatory to her prosecution.

The EFCC said, “However, in a disturbing twist, she jumped bail and had been failing to keep date with the commission’s instructions. Un-moved by her tricks, the commission went ahead to arraign her in abstentia on June 9, 2010 at the Federal High Court 1, Enugu , where she made a dramatic appearance.”

Mgbeke’s Lawyer, C. Arinze- Onyia, according to report made another dramatic move by filing a preliminary objection to the charges preferred against her and prayed the court to quash all the charges, even before being arraigned.

But lawyer to the EFCC, Mr. J.A. Ojogbane drew the attention of the court to the fact that the accused person had jumped bail and was to be arraigned before th
Nairalanders, can you imagine this? Somebody arrested and granted bail a year a go is being arrested again now? Why now? why so long? Madam waziri, i am sure that you are not serious.
TV/Movies / Re: Ghana Slams $1,000 Fee On Nigerian Actors by Engineer96(m): 6:38pm On Jul 06, 2010
Nollywood should not react by imposing a fine on Ghanaian actors. Its a foolish ploy by the Ghanaian movie industry to discourage Nigerian actors. Nollywood must instead make Nollywood more alluring to their top and most popular stars. Before they realise all their top stars will be almost fully absorbed into Nollywood, thats how you get it to backfire on them. Take their audience by attracting their actors, rather than barring them from Nollywood. If we impose hurdes to people like Majid, Van and Jackie etc they will rather stay in Ghollywood and take their fans with them. We want the reverse, we want to be the beneficiaries of their talent since they are steady hating on us. That is what has been happening of recent, we have to be smart about it and remain the most relevant of the two industries. Instead of paying $1000 to Ghanaian movie industry we should make sure that on average actors in Nigerian films have the chance of making that extra $1000. They will flock to us and filming in Ghana will become unfavourable to even their own actors.

We need to be smart about this instead of being hotheaded and rash in our reaction.
Nollywood, this is a non-solicited advice. This is the best thing to do in this case instead of charging them a dim.
Celebrities / Re: Nigeria Vs Ghana Movie Stars Which Do You Prefer by Engineer96(m): 7:03pm On Jun 14, 2010
There is no basis for comparison. The Ghanaians are better actors and actreses and that is why the movie producers who know what they want (profit) go for them. Of course we know that the movie producers have used Nigerian actors and found out what they can do. On Majid and Emeka, to me, Majid is much more versatile and more convincing and realistic and original than Emeka. I have been watching Emeka'a movies for a long time and I am watching Majid's movies and I can tell you that he is spectacular in acting. watch two of Emeka's movies and two of Majid's movies and see the difference.  Majid mor so can play many roles and very perfectly too.  The same applies to Jackie Appia who I call my movie idol of these days. In fact, these ghanaians are very good and better than Nigerians in acting and speaking. Sentiments apart.
Politics / Re: Analysis Of Jonathans Ministers by Engineer96(m): 11:16am On Mar 27, 2010
In as much as we try to condemn Jonathan for most of the nominees, we should have it in mind that these people were nominated by different people just as OBJ nominated Jubril Marthins-Kuwye whose wife Obasanjo has not hidden his romantic love for even before he became President and it appears that the man ( KUye) has used his wife as a charm for OBJ.
secondly, Remi Babalola was nominated by the corruptible Alao-akala of Oyo State and so on.
These people were not actually Jonathan's nominees and we cannot tell him to ignore these peoples nominees and don't forget, in politics there are people you must not toy with otherwise your political career will be ruined. However, he can ask questions about these nominees from these Govs and co. For example, Fidelia Njeze being nominated by my Governor is a good for nothing woman and so you would ask is there no better person from Enugu state. This is what GJ is faced with.
Business / Re: CBN Considers Liquidating Ailing Banks by Engineer96(m): 9:40pm On Jan 16, 2010
To be honest with NL, there is tribalistic sentiments in what Sanusi has done and what he is still doing. Unity Bank, using any parameter, is not healthy. Sanusi told us that Unity Bank was given up to June this year to re-capitalize. Why were other Banks (southern Banks) not given the same opportunity and mandate? Think about this.
Somebody said that UBA had more casualties in staff disengagement. This is because, if it is true, UBA has much more staff than any other Bank in Nigeria. Think of the number of Branches it has let alone its staff strenght. Even after that, UBA still has the highest number of staff in the Nigerian Banking industry. Think about it.
Celebrities / Re: Van Vicker Wins Man Of The Year Award by Engineer96(m): 11:46am On Dec 20, 2009
Majid Michel should have received the award than any other person from the African continent. Reasons are many: he took up and played variety of roles and very well too unlike Van Vicker and Ramsey Noah who are lover boys. He featured in many movies. Michel selects his words while acting as can be seen in Dangerous mother, Passion of Soul, Prety Queen etc unlike Van Vicer et al that uses boring words which make their movies boring as a Nairalander rightly observed. Michel, when closely observed, shows more seriousness when acting just as he told Nadia Buari in Gameboy unlike others that sees it as director's "headache", Michel is much more versatile than all the nominees. The reasons why Majid Michel should have won this and win any other acting award is just endless.
Health / Re: Nigerian Patients Can Sue Hospitals For Negligence by Engineer96(m): 4:09pm On Dec 06, 2009
Nigeria is not just ripe for this. For this to come into play in Nigeria, many things should be taken into consideration. Viz. 1. Our universities where there our doctors are being trained. 2. Indepth knowledge and dedication of our doctor teachers. 3. Politics is the bane of Nigeria. If this comes into effect, politicians will hijack just as we saw in the Stella Obasanjo case. 4. Medical doctor and nurses like other labour unions are always on strike during which they render skeletal services, in this who should be held responsible govt or the doctor or hospital? 5. How do we measure if the doctor has done his best? 6. In the face our hospitals being just upgraded primary healtcare centres, should the hospital or healtcare centre be sued when it does not have the necessary facilities or personnel? Our legal system is always manipulated by the those in authority, sentiments and bias as we saw in election tribunals. The real qualified doctors don't work in Nigeria. The go abroad where they will be appreciated leaving unqualified and quack doctors for us because if you abroad, you see Nigeria doctor working as specialists in those foreign hospital. 7. Our laboratories are in bad shape due to lack proper funding. A lot of more issues should be examined to see why the hospitals should not be sued rather the govt.
Politics / Re: Do You Approve Of Lamido Sanusi's Actions? by Engineer96(m): 10:20pm On Aug 26, 2009
I have not seen any reason reasonable enough to make any support Sanusi.
1) He took a hasty decision anouncing the sack while he auditing other banks thereby making the affected Banks scape goats.
2)By that anouncement, he has created panic in the system and I bet everyone that in the next 5year, Oceanic, Intercontinental will still be suffering this blow.
As one man described it, Sanusi has just shown that he is an Aboki.

Family / Re: My Husband Slapped Me Twice And Now He's Not Talking To Me by Engineer96(m): 9:08pm On Mar 27, 2009
Men build the house while the women build homes. So it is your responsibility to build your home.
That your husband slapped you simply because you told him to take to take his bath must take into cognisance the mood he was in when you said what you said and how you said what you said. You should have done your home work properly to know these things.
From here, you can infer that your non-understanding of your husband and how you approached the issue brought about every other thing that followed.
You can resolve the problem following the same route ie know how and when to approach for apology.
Advice yourself from from the foregoing.
Romance / Re: Is A Woman Incomplete Without A Man? by Engineer96(m): 10:22pm On Mar 18, 2009
Touchmeder, I still maintain that a woman is TOTALY incomplete without a man in her life.
You quoted me right by wishing to get married and settle down so also does every other woman.
I do not want to go religious in this discussion but summarily you have expressed the wish of every other other single woman in other words you wish to be complete. Mind you, a woman is one RIB.

My Operations Manager has provided a true picture of what is happening to Intercontinental Bank.
He told me the following things which my Cash Officer concurred and which I don't think anybody can dispute.
Intercontinental Bank depended on Foreign Funds and that was why most of its good ratings came from abroad. Now these foreign have been pulled out because of the recession.
The System down time witnessed last week was planned and carried out so as to prevent customers from withdrawing. Nice idea you would say.

Romance / Re: Is A Woman Incomplete Without A Man? by Engineer96(m): 9:59pm On Mar 16, 2009
Hi everyone, must all of us be Christians before following and/ or contributing to this topic? We should avoid religion while discussing any issue on Nairaland as it is one thing that had separated us as a people.
Without mincing words, a woman 100% incomplete without a man no matter her academic qualification, wealth, or how celebrated.
Let us be practical, any woman who is single at 30 or above will be uncomfortable and unhappy and can go as far as using juju to compel her boyfriend or any other boy she comes in contact with to marry her. Why? A lady answer this way, Just to have somebody to call "my own". Again, it shows that a lady is mature when she leaves parent house to her "home".
Summarily, in Igbo language, we say "Di bu ugwu nwanyi" meaning a husband is a woman's honour and respect.
Here I rest my case.
Business / Re: Intercontinental Bank Has Become Useless by Engineer96(m): 7:12pm On Mar 14, 2009
I cannot say for or against Intercontinental Bank. They know better the reasons behind the planned increase of the minimum balance of Savings Account to #10 000.
I received the text message requesting me to increase my balance to the said amount. However, what disturbed me is that I was given March 31st as deadline as if they gave me the money to keep for them. I am worried about what becomes the fate of my few thousands in my account if I don't beat the deadline.
I also received another message from the Bank apologizing for system breakdown. From what I have read here, if I had made an attempt to withdraw money on any of those days and there was systems breakdown and I was sent an apology message for that reason, it means that the Bank will charge me for the message which was as a result of its ineffeciency. If yes then CBN must query the Bank for that singular reason.
Career / Banks And Integrity by Engineer96(m): 7:05am On Mar 07, 2009
Banks say that the integrity of any of their staff is non-negotiable, it must be 100% but their customers do not see them to be so as they have called them in names.
I have heard banker being called Crooks; Thieves in disguise; Thieves in suit; Silent Robbers and so on.
Are banks showing this integrity and are being labeled as above?
Your sincerely was almost sacked because of #100 that was later found.
Do bank managements practise what they teach their staff?

What should female marketers of banks do to avoid this.
