We are both saying the same thing somewhat, and that is "Nigeria needs and wants a good and well equipped army. Our equipment are outdated and not enough." i do not exactly care about GEJ or GMB or OBJ or Lugard or whoever, but since you insist on talking about them, i will talk a little about them, especially in my next post to patriot4. Your thread and OP is trying to tell us that we are equipped, that the Nigerian Army and Airforce are equipped, that anyone is wrong to say that we lack a good airforce. This is where we disagree. We are not well equipped, nobody is saying we don't have some hilux jeep, AK47s and some helicopters. That's all rubbish if you know what a real military is all about. We have the largest population in Africa, and are well able to have a good military, especially compared to what obtains in countries like Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Algeria etc, not to mention Europe or America, or even Asia and the South America. There are more than 100countries from who we can buy weapons if we know what we are doing. Please read my next post, i will talk more elaborate there. Thanks.

I'm a corper doctor in one of the army barracks. Would I ask the 'soldiers' to wait and snap them so I can post on nairaland?! I treat them, drink with them and I'm privy to the life of a soldier- what the average civilian mightn't know. I love the military, love it from the outside but what I've seen on the inside is a group of people enslaved in the name of being soldiers and put in the gravest of dangers. You expect a regular soldier to pay 18k for a pair of boots from his paltry salary? You give him just 2 clips of ammo and expect him to face the 'barca' boys? Am not saying the AK is outdated, I'm just saying our soldiers don't deserve to carry the ones they do- rusty, very rusty! Some with bad safeties ( saw a man not to long who accidentally shot himself in the foot, a result of a bad safety, and with those funny wooden stocks I see. I'm not a soldier o, but soldiers and the officers I see complain a lot. I hear battlefront experiences everyday- how they were routed by Boko boys in some operations, how u are doomed when your two clips are exhausted...and forget the army being underfunded, we know how the generals roll ( leave matter for Matthias)
Bros the average Nigerian soldier is underkitted and underarmed!

Don't be ridiculous, the Nigerian Army is not as "superior" as you think. The US sells weapons to more so called "superior" countries than Nigeria. It is Nigeria's loss of face in the international community that has made things relatively cumbersome. That 'face'is being restored as we speak.

Nigeria needs and wants a good and well equipped army. We have the size/personnel strength but not the standard equipment. Our equipment are outdated and not enough. We should be better equipped than Egypt, South Africa and any other African country in terms of WANTS and ability. We can be as equipped as the Royal Airforce in terms of NEEDS.

I am not here to find Fashola innocent or guilty or hold a brief for him. I do not have the details of the contract so i would wait for a statement from Fashola before drawing my conclusions. Fashola is definitely not crazy to award a contract of 78 million for just a website upgrade. There could be more to it, let's give him some benefit of doubt

If you're knowledgable about websites, you'll know that a contract like this would involve much more than the website itself, like:

Development of custom school management software (ERP system)

Development of taxi service management system ( example Uber)

Development of other custom software management systems for the Fashola projects

If that's the case, then This is no biggie, it's worth the amount, but I am not holding brief for Fashola on this as I do not have details of the said contract award, when he releases a statement, I'll do my own personal assessment about it. We're in an Information Age though, his bad. But for now, I'll say innocent until proven guilty.

For the avoidance of doubt, there has been and still is no evidence that Nigeria hired "mercenaries" who "changed the game" for us. Colonel Eeben Barlow the chairman of sttep and a regular beegeagles blogger has refuted this ridiculous claim on many occasions.


All missions were carried out primarily by the Nigerian Army, led by the Nigerian Army MSF.

You're right that we do not have a zero airforce... But the question is "are we were we should be?" obviously not this is a far cry from were we should be. The equipment the airforce operates gives Nigeria a bad. Our boys are trying their best... But we need them well armed.
I wonder what you'd say tomorrow if Chad decided to declare war against Nigeria... The airforce is capable of defending our sovereignty? No sir. Our air security must be stepped up. Anything less is treason.

I find this thread very distasteful and Somewhat annoying... I have only met a handful of people as patriotic as I am let alone more patriotic that I am.
Patriotism however should NEVER blind us to the flaws of our nation lest we fail bitterly.
The acquisition of this birds may be celebrated in some quarters, its all good celebrate but not too long nor loud. Because the truth is we as a nation deserve more... A nation as rich in terms of resources and enemies, and important as Nigeria shouldn't have such a low grade airforce. Armed Super Pumas, Alpha jets, F7s... Good God, they may as well surrender our country in advance to a foreign power.

In the words of a wise man... Oga Beegs. "The time of peace is the best time to prepare for war". And Nigeria is far from ready for a conventional war.

Our biggest flaw is measuring our capabilities with the likes of Cameroon, Ghana, Togo, Mali and Co. I respect these countries but we are simply not in the same security class. Nigeria is a leading African Power House, we should be compared with power houses from other continents.

Our politicians have corrupted and crippled our military with the aid of their cronies.
The sooner we realize that WE HAVEN'T FALLEN, we wouldn't see the reason to rise... After all there is no wisdom in fixing what isn't broken.

All said acquisitions should be problem... Truth is we were reaped off. #Sad reality.

This OP is getting everything wrong, with all this hardwares, why did we lose more than 13,000lives? GEJ only woke up 6weeks to elections and that's when Nigeria acquired all this. Remember boko-are-rams menace started in 2009,even the documentary you presented was in 2015. If them born Vice News well, them for go Bornu State 2012 or 2013.

Buhari and APC were lamenting about GEJ's inability to tackle boko-are-rams until elections, that doesn't make sense. No doubt the Military hardwares were bought, but why 6 weeks to elections?!
