BusinessRe: Nigeria's Annual Fish Import Bill Stands At $800m by EngrXrix(m): 4:31pm On Oct 04, 2018
dipoolowoo:
By Dipo Olowookere

One of the major factors working against the growth of the fisheries segment of the economy in Nigeria has been identified by analysts at FBNQuest Capital.

Despite the abundance of water in Nigeria, not much is earned from the aquatic sector of the nation’s economy.

Aquaculture has remained an integral part of Nigeria’s agriculture sector, with annual fish demand estimated at 3.3 million metric tons (mmt).

According to FBNQuest Capital, over the past three years, domestic fish supply has risen to 1.2mmt, which is attributed to increased government intervention.

Quoting industry sources in its daily Good Morning Nigeria report, the firm said Nigeria’s annual fish import bill is estimated to be around $800 million.

It said however, the fisheries segment continues to suffer from poor access to credit and based on the credit extension data for Q2 2018 released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), agriculture received just 3.5 percent of total credit allocation.

The report noted that based on the national accounts for Q2 2018, fisheries contracted by -1.3 percent y/y, compared with a growth of 4.2 percent recorded in the previous quarter, accounting for 2.1 percent of total agricultural GDP in Q2.

“We note that Nigeria’s per capita fish consumption is 13kg, significantly lower than the global average of 21kg.

“Data from the CBN show that artisanal production accounted for around 76.7 percent of the 1.06 million tonnes of fish produced in 2017,” the report stated.

In addition, it said industrial (trawling) fish farming accounted for only 7 percent of the total, indicating that commercial fisheries segment is still largely untapped.

“The harsh business environment has slowed fishing activity; the cost of trawling has more than doubled over the past few years due to high operational costs,” it said.

FBNQuest Capital stressed that fisheries would benefit from increased financial intervention schemes if given attention by government.

The CBN has set up a few of these to support the sector and compensate for the poor supply from the banks but these have had modest impact on the segment.

PoliticsRe: Why Is It Always Difficult For Many State Governors To Pay Worker Salaries??? by EngrXrix(m): 12:02pm On Sep 08, 2018
Gbengaolowe32:
Any Government that want to rule at state or federal level should know that payment of Government workers should be his no 1 priority because through them the market woman, small and large scale business owner will earn their daily need and by the time Government fail to pay the salary or make half payment and increase the rate of poverty and deprived many Nigerians access to right life. I wish senate can wake up in a day in Nigeria and sponsor bill that says that says Not until all Government workers both in states and Federal level get their salaries.....No political office holder will get paid then I know our senators and other legislative arm of Government are working for the sake of Nigerians well being. But they will be sponsoring unnecessary bill that has no positive impact on Nigerians. What a useless and wasted 4 years of Saraki lead 8th senate and Dogara in lower chamber....Saraki lead Senate is The worst senate in the history of Nigeria. God bless me, God bless you, God bless Nigerians, God bless Nigerian.
Salary issue has eaten so deep into the Nigerian labour system.
Even privately owned firms think it's right to owe salaries.

But they wud have to pay me for the idea.

Power problems is becoming rocket science in Nigeria and is no longer funny.
We all must brainstorm together to solve this problem that has lingered for too long.

CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA HAVE FINALLY SIGNED THE CURRENCY SWAP DEAL*
*IT'S WORTH READING...*
*IN CASE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.*
I know Most of You don't know the meaning of Nigeria dollars, yuan swap with China.. And why American government is desperately smoothing the relationship with Nigeria.
Soon you will be buying that techno phone you bought at N80,000 for N12,000.
The Central Bank of Nigeria have finally signed the currency swap deal we have been expecting for the past 2 years into existence with the Chinese government.
The importance of this is that since almost 70% of the goods we import come from China and Asia and 12% America why must we use Dollars to transact with China? from now instead of using dollars at N350 to 1dollar to import those goods, we can now buy Yuan at 47 naira to 1 Yuan and import those stuffs directly.
Instead of buying these goods in dollars in China, we will now buy them in Yuan which is 5times cheaper than dollars.
As usual, another giant stride which Print Media, Electronic Media and Nigerian looters will not report or allow you to understand this victory over supremacy of dollars in our daily lives and economic activities.
Up coming reality is that from tomorrow, try to monitor exchange rate. Some of those guys who hoarded foreign currencies to make gains will off load them in order not to have heart attack over their huge loss arising from the currency swap deal with china.
Dollars and pounds will flood everywhere with no buyers, as the buyers will draw naira from their accounts in banks with presence in China.
Many NIGERIAN banks will be seeking to have their representative office in China like first bank saw to the future and already have office in China.
Inflation will go down drastically because of the price of commodities that will drop.
We'll said. It's a welcomed development and it wud help give Nigeria a soft landing esp with this brewing trade war that's about to happen between China and America. Nice one.

PoliticsRe: The Social Investment Scheme By Buhari: A Blessing And Not A Propaganda. by EngrXrix(m): 7:30pm On Aug 25, 2018
lordtosan:
The APC social investment scheme: Vote buying? Propaganda? Too small a cash? Misplaced priority? More Jobs should be created instead?

I really do not know how you see this first ever social investment scheme that is to run for 2 years under APC after over 20 years. I really do not. I can only tell you how I see it while you are entitled to your own perspective and opinion.

I see old and feeble folks whose financial burden is being lifted a bit though not entirely. I see old folks who have never been catered for by any Nigeria government in the past 20 years, getting their first social package as aged citizens of Nigeria. I see old folks who might not have worked in a government institution and not enjoying retirement benefits, getting a token of their first share of the social scheme for the old. The cash may seem quite smidgen to get them through even a week in the estimation of most of us in the city, but you have no idea the little #5000 can do for the old living in our rural areas where most of them grow their food than buy them as we do. It is better than nothing!
Some of us saying government should create more jobs and stop this are either inherently callous and wicked or are taking a course in witchcraft in one the South African Universities where the study of witchcraft has been recently approved. While creation of jobs is a must-do, it is entirely different from social scheme. Kindly get that right. Even in the U.S where unemployment rate is comparatively low, the U.S government still doles out various social packages for the old to help them slog through. While the government must create more jobs, should the old folks be neglected to starve? The old folks cannot and should not be brook to work even if there are many jobs opportunities. Hence, the importance of welfare/social scheme for them. And, this scheme though not ample and sufficient enough, is a sure positive harbinger for greater things to come for Nigeria in terms of welfare and social schemes.

You might say "abegi, leave that thing guy! na propaganda or advance buying of vote." Sir, the beneficiaries of this scheme care less provided this scheme can be sustained and expanded to cover virtually all parts of Nigeria while the propaganda last. Isn't it shameful that for over 16 years of PDP leadership, not one PDP president ever came up with this propaganda idea to feed the poor and aged but rather stashed money away in various foreign and personal accounts? Better a propaganda that will take care of the old than nothing!

Having pointed those out, I want to call on some of the top APC members who are reading this to prevail on the government not to stop at just sharing 5k to the old folks suffering in our villages. The social scheme should please be expanded to include the following for the old

1). Medical aid i.e free medical service via a health insurance scheme even for those who didn't work on any white collar or government gig.

2). Public housing for the old folks who are living in decrepit mud houses and

3). Monthly food stamps.

These will go a long way to improve the quality of their lives.

I believe with little but consistent steps as this social scheme, Nigeria will be great again!

God bless APC!
God bless Nigeria!

I have noticed lately that alot of people hate Buhari especially the ones that aren't from the northern part of Nigeria, they blame Buhari on the economic situation of the country, they blame Buhari about people being broke and scarcity of employment, why is that? Is it because he does not allow and is always stopping people from looting Govt money? Or is it because he spends too much time fighting corruption rather than tackling other problems like electricity, the economy and high rate of poverty?

even if he steps down, another person who is worst than him will just take end up taking his place. So why even bother?
Well sorry I don't hate BuharI and am not from the north. I actually see him as a role model. His way of dealing with things.

CelebritiesRe: Drake Becomes First Artist To Surpass 50 Billion Streams by EngrXrix(m): 9:41pm On Aug 08, 2018

From 6god to Stream god

It is well known that Drake fans are among the most loyal of the game; if anyone criticizes the legendary Champagne Papi, then legions of devotees will shower the no-say fisherman with the speed and power of ants. Now Drake and his fans will have ample reason to eat, as it were. The Oho-head-huncho has officially made music history, with which he again has broken an impressive record. Drake has officially become the first artist to surpass fifty billion streams on all platforms.

Now, it is unclear whether forty-eight billion was still a record in itself, but it certainly lacks the rotundity of fifty. It is unclear which artists will be close to Drizzy's record, but for now the Scorpion King continues to maintain its commercial dominance. The news comes on the heels of an album-related milestone, while Scorpion and the recent single "In My Feelings" both enjoy successful Billboard runs. With "In My Feelings" becoming a viral succes.

Say what you want about the man, but he continues to fill the profit column even after he lost  the beef/battle with Pusha.

Here is my question, it is actually an assignment:

"What soever has the tendency to fail will surely fail explain with respect to reliability"
It means a system with unreliable foundations will always fail at any point in time. For example, if a set of policies or laws made by people with questionable character are introduced into a system, that system will surely fail because those laws or policies might have been set to serve selfish interests at the detriment of the larger population. A castle built on sand can never stand for long because you cannot rely on its foundation.

PoliticsRe: Top 5 Governors Who Invested Massively On Roads In Their States by EngrXrix(m): 6:25pm On Jul 27, 2018
AutoReportNG:
Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources and mental capabilities. Nigeria has 36 states with the Federal Capital Territory, making it 37. Out of these 37 states, one can hardly boast of 10 states which have good road networks. There are some states you have to ask if there exist any governmental presence around this area despite the allocations and all sorts, some roads are death traps that you won't wish your enemies pass through. While some may argue that the IGR of some states is very low unlike some states with mega IGR, we have seen some states who have surpassed this excuses and have done excellently well.

The list is compiled without any political undertone, favors or whatsoever, the list is compiled based on research, fact-finding and based on the recommendation of people living in these states. While it is difficult to see governors without one form of weakness in one way or the other, these ones have stood out and are worthy of mention.

5. Gov Willie Obiano (Anambra)

Gov Willie can best be described as a lone ranger. He is the only governor in his party (APGA). Obiano can best be described as a silent achiever and he has held up the helms of the government so well. According to reports, Obiano constructed three flyovers with seven bridges without borrowing and doesn't wait for FG before he pays workers salary. Anambra state can best be described as a state with low IGR as 50-60% of its populace are mostly traders who specialized in buying and selling of goods but despite this, the state government has to perform beyond expectations in the area of roads and infrastructure at least within his ability. AutoReportNG still believes there needs more to be done in this regards but in all, he deserves some accolades.

4. Gov Rauf Aregbesola (Osun)

Osun state is located in South West and it is a land that's close to the Yorubas. They believe its a state where the Yoruba race emanates from. Osun state is one of the historic tourism states in Nigeria and that's why the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Despite having this recognition from an international body, it is expedient that the roads leading to these locations are in good shape motorable and that's where the state comes in. Gov Aregbesola been a civil engineer himself as done well in the area of road constructions across the state, from bridges to layaways to flyover, Aregbesola definitely knows his onions. Places like Oshogbo which is that state capital to Ede and to other remote parts of the states have been touched. Why some may feel he has not done enough of which we respect their opinions and see to that, but he is still better to compare to other states.

3. Gov Nyesom Wike (Rivers)

Gov Wike is popularly called Mr. Project so as to know he means business. Wike is a man who you love to hate. While many have criticized his style of government but he seems not back-down in his bid to develop the state. He made it a point of duty to commission at least 2 roads in a month, that's for a man that is not relenting. In April, he commissioned 34 projects in a day. Why many may disagree that not much is been done in this regards, we felt he deserved a spot in this compilation. It is worthy of note that Rivers is among the top states in terms of IGR for the state so the state is capable to build and construct roads without looking up to FG.

2. Gov Ganduje (Kano)

Kano state is being termed the Commerce capital of Nigeria. With a population of 15 million Nigerians, the state has a lot to do in terms of infrastructure and road constructions and the man at the helms of affairs has been holding it down. A visit to Kano will show you lots of on-going roadworks across the state, from the monorail to the flyovers and then to some major roads, the governor has tried within his best to see to it that the state is motorable and it remains investors hub.

1. Gov Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos)

Gov. Ambode needs no introduction to Nigerians, Africans and also to some countries. Lagos is the commercial capital city of Nigeria, with a population of 20 million people living in the state, the governor definitely has a lot to do in terms of roads and infrastructure. Gov Akinwunmi Ambode came into power in May 29th, 2015 and he has introduced quite a lot of modern roads to the state. The state is currently undergoing a massive revolution in terms of road networks, from Oshodi to Airport Rd to Lagos-Abeokuta Rd, Ikorodu and the list is endless, Ambode is trying to see Lagos retained its mega city status. Not only is the governor all about roads, he has made sure that the Lagos State Waterways System are working even though people have their reservation boarding ferries but we can say that the LASG is trying his best in this sector and also more stations are under construction. Gov Ambode is also seeing to it that the Lagos Light Rail is completed on time, the light way was started by the former governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola and so far, the rail is in its 75% completion rate.

While we respect people's political opinion, we try to be as transparent by not having anyone or state as been favorites, our list is as a result of research, travels, and investigation. This has nothing to do with their offices and how they fare in other areas, we believe it's not every time we criticize, there are times we give those in power some Hi-Fives for a job well done.

TravelRe: Lady Set To Wed In August, Dies In A Fatal Accident In Warri by EngrXrix(m): 6:19am On Jul 24, 2018
Lizzysamuel:
A Nigerian lady, Eyitemi Madamedon, who was scheduled to have her wedding in August, has died in a fatal accident in Warri, Delta state.

According to a family member, Eyimofe Pemu, who took to facebook to mourn her, the deceased, Eyitemi who was until her death a staff of DESOPADEC, had just left Shoprite in Warri and was driving home in company of two friends when she lost control and rammed into a parked tanker along NPA express by Nigercat area off Ekpan/Warri road. She died on the spot while her friends lost conciousness and were rushed to the General hospital.

Eyitemi was schdeuled to travel to the US today or tomorrow to shop for her wedding.

Read what her family friend wrote about her death below:

A beautiful leaf from the tree of the future has fallen and it is a great loss to the entire Warri kingdom beyond just the Itsekiri speaking tribe of the Niger Delta: Death is a gift when it comes at old age and a pain when it comes too early, for it is better to lose a parent at a tender age than a parent to lose a child at whatever age. What else could be most disheartening and heartbroken than a parent burying their children who should bury them after a fulfiled life here on earth?

Yesterday Sunday at the hour of about 2am in the morning ushered a sad moment not only to the families of the Madamedon, but for the entire Kingdom of Warri and and beyond when the sad news broke that Miss Eyitemi Madamedon has been involved in a fatal car accident along the NPA express by Nigercat area of Ekpan/Warri on her way from Shoprite.

According to information available, has it that she was in a company of two of her friends all female on her way driving from Shoprite when she lost control of her car and ran into rank tanker truck parked along the road and she died on the spot while the other two friends were on unconscious, for it took the intervention of a mobile police unit that was on patrol who rescued them to general hospital for emergency attention while the remains of Miss Eyitemi was deposited in the mutuary, until her death she was a staff of DESOPADEC Agency.

The saddest thing is that according to information available to me has it that she set to get married in the month of August in which she has already concluded plans to travel to the US today or tomorrow but it unfortunate she has been snatched by death.

May her peaceful and loving soul rest and it is my prayers that God give to her families and friends the strength to bear their great loss ?, but what they should understand is that she is an angel who dwells amongst humans with a purpose to put a smile on the faces of others which is the primary essence of life but it's unfortunate she cannot live amongst human in this sinful world forever. My advice is that we should be prayerful and very careful even though we cannot live forever but to live to a fulfiled and expected end according to wishes of our Creator and not that of man, for the hearts of man is very wicked.

Lastly, we should remember that this world is not our own as we are only passing through to another which is either to heaven or hell, therefore, we should make our days on earth remarkably count for good by bringing meaning to lives of everyone around us. Death is sad but we must remember we are not created to live forever but for a purpose which is beyond living for ourselves and immediate families but for others as well.

I may not have met her in person neither did I know her name before now but from the information gathered she lived a beautiful life by making the lives of others beautifully interesting.

Conclusively, I hope the government of Delta state under the administration of Sen Ifeanyi Okowa through his commissioner for transport (Vincent Uduaghan) and commissioner for works will now see the need to act fast on how to contain bad roads and the irresponsible parking of trucks along the roads which his predecessor (Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan) failed to do as governor of the state for 8yrs? The local government should constitute a sanitation committee with a responsibility to keep our environment clean, safe and secure.

Rest in peace Eyitemi Madamedon.
Charles Eyimofe (Baruch) Pemu.

PoliticsRe: When I Was Working In The Southeast I Saw What The Igbo Could Do - Akinwumi by EngrXrix(m): 12:44pm On Jul 21, 2018
TundeBricklayer:
You later became an Executive Director at NITEL, where you retired. What lessons can you share over the course of your career and life?

Trust God, be straightforward and love your neighbour as yourself. If people have these virtues, they will put their country first in all they do and their lives will be meaningful. It’s unfortunate many people don’t put their country first. If so, how can pensioners not be paid their dues after working for so many years? How can people who just found their way to political leadership amass oil blocs for themselves and be making billions of naira? It’s because of selfishness. When I was in England, I stumbled upon a research that a lot of great countries had their development after a war. The US became so great after the civil war; there was no civil war in Britain and that is why they are not fantastically great. The man who developed rocket technology and space science (Wernher von Braun) did it after the American civil war. He was a German Jew. During that time, it wasn’t easy for the Nazi regime to spy Britain because it is an island, surrounded by the sea. If you wanted to cross over to the country, you would be seen, unlike Switzerland and France. So, Hitler called Braun and asked how they could spy over Britain? Braun told Hitler not to worry. He developed rockets and they were sending them to Britain without leaving Germany. If not because of America, Britain would have been wiped out. They cried to America and because of the experience the US had during the civil war, they were able to stop the bombardment of the rockets. The Americans then called Braun and asked how he was able to develop the rockets. They took him to their country and that was how they decided to work with him. His efforts made America to send man to Moon in 1969. Nigeria would have developed a similar technology if not that they advised us wrongly. After the civil war, what Nigeria should have done was to call the Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo and reason together. We could have asked how the Igbo man built the guns and bombs used during the war. But the White didn’t want us to reason that way, they knew they wouldn’t be able to sell their wares to us, so they dispersed us. The Igbo developed the radio and others and they are still using the residual knowledge to develop some things today. When I was working in the South-East and I saw what the Igbo could do, I knew why what happened to us happened. We would have gone very far and would probably be at the same level with South Korea today. They disbanded the people then – their scientists, the engineers, all of them. These are the problems. We didn’t think too. However, there was still the problem that amalgamation created for us. Today, the Northerners would have been in a worse condition because they had no access to the sea, nothing whatsoever then, unlike the South and the West. The White had seen this in 1914. They also did it that the population of the Northerners was twice that of the South and West so they could control the polity, which is why we can’t win elections. Whenever we are talking about elections, Yoruba won’t get along with the Igbo, the Igbo won’t also get along with Yoruba, but in the North, they always support themselves, especially when they are all in for a particular cause. Having worked with the Northerners, I can say they are more politically sophisticated than the rest of us.

AutosRe: The Chinese Car Industry In Nigeria Is Getting Serious by EngrXrix(m): 11:47am On Jul 20, 2018

Its a very interesting read at the blog segunoncars..com
be sure to follow for new updates

The first thing anybody would say after hearing the word China is 'Huge population'. After that it's Bootleg. The Chinese, or Chinkos as we know it, are known for the skills they employ when making an immitation or mock-up of something, and I mean anything. From wrist-watches to shoes and bags the Chinese are experts at making lookalikes. Reasoning from this fact, The Chinese are at it again...But they're getting serious this time. The Chinese are being serious about their cars. And believe You me, they are leaving no stone Unturned as they delve into the automobile industry.

The first car made by the Chinese was made on May 31, 1931 for Zhang Xueliang, the effective ruler of northeast China but Prior to production commencing, the factory was bombed by the invading Japanese and production never commenced. Several vehicle assembly factories were set up in the 1950s and 1960s and the first Chinese production vehicles were made by the First Automobile Works in 1958, a car called the Dongfeng CA-71. This car gained worldwide fame and was utilized by the Russians (then USSR).

Now Presently the Chinese have various Cars flooding the market in which most are in the likeness of other famous cars or share the underbody(chasis) or similar components to them but one car company making waves now in Nigeria is the GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group) motor company. Cars from this Manufacturer have, on many occasions, been used as Prizes for various Events and talent hunts such as the popular 2018 HIP-TV Headies Awards in which popular Nigerian artiste Mayorkun won a Kia Sportage-like GAC GS4.

Notwithstanding what I've said, a model from this upcoming manufacturer I choose to single out and emphasise on is the GAC GS8. The GAC GS8 is a Full-Size SUV from the Car company GAC, powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 201horsepower and 300NM of Torque, coming with a six-speed automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels, the GS8 comes standard with 8 Airbags, a Blind spot warning system, a Lane Departure warning system, a 4WD Rotary Mode Switch, LED Daytime Running Lights, a Reverse Camera, Surround view Cameras, Key-less Entry, a Push Button Starter, Seat Belt Pre-Tensioners and almost 70 other features found only on cars such as the Mercedes Benz G-class. I'm not fooling You, check this link [1].

Pricing of the GS8 starts at and is between N8,500,000 to N13,500,000[2] which is not bad considering the features it is equipped with. Below are some pictures of the GAC GS8 and from them, it is apparent and arguably true that it's aggressive stance is quite pleasing to the eyes. All that being said, I have come to the conclusion that the GS8 has looks to match or maybe even supersede the Range Rover, comes with features that will rival most BMW's out there, and is economical to own and run due to its small Turbocharged 2.0Litre Powerplant. Presently being sold at the GAC Head office situated at Plot 7, Ligali Ayorinde Street, Vitoria Island,Lagos, Nigeria, The GAC GS8 seems to be trying to make a statement as an apology from the Chinese for their bootlegging status. I'm not sure if I'll buy one yet because of that "name" and My reliability distrust but we'll see how it goes in a few years time. If popular Car maker Kia and Hyundai did it, I'm sure the Chinkos too can do it. More Grease to their elbows. We'll be watching. Segun
I wish to see a day where a brand new car will be sold in nigeria for 1m

CareerRe: My Employer Does Not Want Me To Leave - Please Advice Me by EngrXrix(m): 9:55am On Mar 25, 2018
FolsTonyby:
I have been working in this company since late 2014. Initially we were three in the department, later the head of department was sacked, remaining two of us and the company didn't bring any replacement for the head.

Early last year my other colleague got another job and left too leaving only me as the sole staff in the department (IT department). Since then I've been the only person running the department, mind you the company is opening more branches and expanding.

Around December last year when the workload was too much I requested for another hands and the company promised to get me ASAP and even posted the job advert on the dailies but they didn't do any recruitment (upon the fact that many people applied).

Now I got a better job in a multinational and I dropped my resignation letter giving them a month notice but the company refused to accept my letter saying I cannot leave as there is nobody to take over from me. They have recruited people now but the people gave them a month before they can resume and I cannot wait because if I do I will lose my new place, all the information of the company IT wise is in my palm as the company run solely on IT for daily transactions.

Please I need professional advice on this because I am supposed to resume at my new place this coming April.

Any form of advice will do. Help a brother!
Its simple. If they want u to stay. Ask them to match the offer u got from your new employers. If they won't, leave. if they do, stay. Except u want to leave on other grounds like changing career or something. But if the company is going to match the offer then u shud stay( as long as u see growth and prospects in the company long term business).
