You are partly right sha. But just as someone commented above, a few days or weeks in juvenile detention will scare them when they are made to realise that this will be their fate if they don't come clean.
The hostel teachers should be arrested for questioning as well.

The truth is, Nigerian police can get the truth from the students if they really want to. They know their way.

Truth be told, withdrawing students from the school or from other secondary schools for that matter wouldn't solve any problem. Let each school put policies in place that will help curb and even punish( severely if possible) bullying and bullies. State Governments should also make it a law.

But what baffeles me about this article, is how and why this woman ( a parent) would answer questions on behalf of the school management.

She talked more like the school executive than that of the forum.

I won't leave my precious child in a school where he or she is not safe. Better to be safe than sorry .

Temporarily closing school for some days for evidence collection, student assistance by physicians and other things are ok. Shutting down the school is not.

Someone died!!! in a controversial and unpleasant manner and the school denied it yet you want the authorities to leave the school open?.

The school management did not want to offend the rich parents of those students that committed the crime, I pray their school go down never to rise again because of it. We worship money too much in this country

What happened is sad but closing down the school is totally unnecessary.
If this type of knee jerk reaction is applied everytime we have a crime committed in US schools, most schools will be closed by now.
Arrest the perpetrators and leave the school alone.

Can u just take a step back and listen to yourself?. Few days back a 15yr old shot and killed 4 of his mates, the school was immediately shut down and he was arrested along with his parents. That is a crime scene, it needs to be shut down

Secondly, why should it be left opened when the safety of other kids is not guaranteed?.

They will rise up again.I honestly don't believe any school will be happy to have any of its student dead especially in a tragic controversial manner. They obviously will learn a big lesson from this unfortunate incident and never make any lapses ever again.

Dowen has a strong human resource in its alumni, I am wondering why members of Dowen Alumni are quiet and so much scared to tell the world if this unfortunate incident completely erases the legacy of the education Dowen gave them. I remember A Hall had a similar experience but their Alumni stood by their school and was part of those who ensured A. Hall did not die with that unfortunate incident. Today it's the turn of your alma mater.

If you are a parent who Dowen helped raise your child to be the great person he or she is today or you are a product of Dowen ,it's time to stand with your alma mater and assure the public that you are with the bereaved family too.Get involved in the resolution of the issue. This is a tough time for your alma mater and if Dowen didn't kill you throughout your stay there, why then will Dowen now want to kill that beautiful soul?

It's unfortunate. I pray that God console the bereaved family. It's really tough but putting all the blame on the school is not unexpected in unfortunate incidents like this.

What are you saying?...if the school is that efficient as you want us to believe, where were the hostel teachers when the beatings and bullying were ongoing?. This goes to say that the kids are left entirely to themselves at hostel because this incident happened over a long period of time and if someone was there with them in the hostel it would've been discovered.

The only effective fight against bullying is letting your child know you are always there for them and that you are their confidant and their messiah, that’s all! Always give them a listening ear, build their confidence and also make them know you will defend them no matter the situation.

Spoken like a true Nairalander. That boy will get either 26 years or a life imprisonment with the possibility of parole. He will not get the death sentence based on his age and the terrorism charge was added to sensationalize the news. Watch and see. The problem I have is you people hardly go back on your words.

He is 15 and being tried as an adult on a 4 count of first degree murder. Acts of terrorism is not taken likely in the US and draws a long sentence. Find out the min sentence of a one count 1st degree charge in the US and multiply by 4.

You would just end up facing criminal charges if you or your child does, which you wouldn't want. There are now anti-bullying laws everywhere and some forms of cyberbullying and in-class bullying are considered criminal acts, so the best thing to do is to report the perpetrators, as they could be prosecuted. Bullying is now being taken seriously by schools and police departments in the country. I'm not talking about Nigeria, though, but I hope Nigeria gets to that stage.

Unfortunately we are in Nigeria, so self defence is what our kids need.

Only a rich person can afford a 1m school fees. The boy's father obviously is rich as well, so the case can't be swept away just like that.

It's a sweet gesture but an unhealthy one. Parents should teach kids how to stand up for themselves and without using violence. If the bullies persist, involve the school authorities or even the Police, but don't take matters into your own hands.

How can you free yourself from bullies without using violence?, beg the bully to stop?.

He’ll be out at 41 and hopefully not a better criminal. Gun laws keep prisons full. Prisons make an insane amount of money off cheap labour and inflated product prices. He should enjoy school lunches for most of his upcoming adult life. The parents are innocent, they did what most Americans would do for their children. He should take all the blame for his actions unless firearms aren’t meant for minors in his state of residence.

'4 counts of 1st degree murder with one count of terrorism', this boy will never see the light of day. That is if he's not sentenced to death. America that sentence people to life for one count of 1st degree murder.

If I have my way, I will propose that boarding schools should be scraped. I have a little cousin brother who attends one of the boarding schools in maitama Abuja. During the covid 19 lockdown last year, I spent two months at his parents place. The type of information I got from this little boy as regards the happening in his school are horrifying. I wanted to draw his mum's attention to the happenings in his school, but he pleaded with me not to. And the school in question is a catholic school o.

The boy clearly said somethings.
How do you investigate an issue when the main subject is dead.
The others will simply deny it. It's common knowledge. Especially now that it involves death.

Only an autopsy can clarify the claim .
