Jokes EtcThe Legend Of INDIA VS NIGERIA by entadaplace(op): 10:05am On Jun 02, 2013
Many have heard about this match. Some think it’s an urban legend. Some think it’s only a joke. But only few know the truth.

A long time ago, few months after the end of the Nigeria-Biafra war, the Military Governor of Lagos decided to stage an exhibition match at the then glorious National Stadium Lagos. He thought it would be a special way of celebrating Nigeria’s victory in the war, a way of helping Lagosians to forget the sad bloody years that had just passed. He wanted to stage the match between Nigeria & Ghana but was advised against it. His advisers reminded him how Ghana trashed Nigeria 3-Nil at the 1960 Independence Match, that another loss to Ghana might defeat the purpose of the exhibition match. His advisers suggested that they choose a team that would be very easy to beat.

Brig Gen Mobolaji Johnson agreed. Ethiopia was considered. Zimbabwe was considered. India was considered. USA was considered. And India was chosen. He & his advisers believed that India would be a walkover. But had he known what would happen he might have chosen Brazil. Yes, Brazil were the reigning world champions at the time but… Oh, had he known.

India agreed to play the exhibition match with Nigeria. In fact, they were overjoyed. Nigeria was one of the best teams in Africa. And they had never played with an African team before. What more! They were most overjoyed that Nigeria had agreed to their three special conditions. What were these conditions?

Well, on that fateful day, a bright Saturday afternoon on August 15th, 1970, the National Stadium Lagos was filled with excited spectators. That was Condition No. 1, that the match be played on India’s Independence Day. As the players of Nigeria & India came into the pitch, spectators screamed with more excitement as they saw that all the twenty-two players were barefooted. That was Condition No. 2. (Remember that India had withdrawn from the 1950 World Cup because they weren’t allowed to play barefooted.)

Priiii… Referee Mohamed Touati blew his whistle to begin the game. (The Tunisian referee had been suspended by FIFA earlier that year but had accepted to officiate this special match.) Indian forward Amer Al-Amer made the first pass. And before anyone could say “Bosnia-Herzegovina”, one Majed Suleman fired the ball high into the air towards the Nigerian post. The gaint of a Nigerian keeper, Emmanuel Okala, dived to the right while the ball dropped into the left side of the net. Gooooaaal!!! 3-0. That was Condition No. 3, that each goal scored by India would be counted as 3points while each by Nigeria would be 1 as usual. (Nigeria agreed because they believed that India could never score. Or at least couldn’t score more than one goal.) Emmanuel was looking confused. He was very sure he had dived towards the ball. Every other person thought he’d deliberately let the Indians score just to spice up the game. Meanwhile, India’s fan club was going wild with jubilation.

Priii… The Nigerian forwards Sunday Atuma & Thompson Usiyen passed. As Thompson passed to Paul Hamilton, he was surprised when he saw India’s Faisal Al-Dakheel with the ball. Faisal quickly shot the ball into the air towards Nigeria’s post. Goooal! 6-0. Thompson was so confused. He could have sworn it was Paul his teammate he had passed to.

Priii… Sunday Atuma passed into the Nigerian half. Alloysius Atuegbu passed to Haruna Ilerika. Haruna made a long pass into the Indian half to Samuel Okoye. He was shocked when he saw the ball in the legs of Abdullah Al-Shemmari. Haruna wiped his eyes in disbelief. Too late! Abdullah shot the ball into the air. Goal! 9-0. Three goals in barely six minutes? Nigerian spectators were wondering what was happening.

Priii… Goal! 12-0. Yusuf Al-Suwayed. 15-0. Amer Al-Amer. 18-0. Majed Suleman’s second goal. 21-0. Abdulaziz Al-Buloushi. 24-0. Majed’s hat-trick. 27-0. Faisal Al-Dakheel’s second goal. 30-0. Waleed Al-Mubarak. At the twentieth minute, Nigeria’s Paul Hamilton ran with the ball all the way to India’s box-18. But as he raised his leg to shoot, he slipped & fell. India’s defender Mahboub Jumaa easily took the ball as Paul lay on the ground moaning like a baby. That was the nearest Nigeria had gotten to the Indian post so far.

Twenty-five minutes later & eight goals more, the score stood at 54-0. Some spectators angrily left the stadium even before the half-time whistle. Others waited patiently, hoping that Nigeria would revenge in the 2nd half.

“Boys, what the hell is happening out there?!” Coach Jorge Penna was furious. “You’re the damn captain, answer me!!” he was shouting at Emmanuel Okala.
Emmanuel was speechless. He didn’t know what to say.
“Co-co-coach…” Godwin Achebe began “I think I know what’s happening sir”
The coach was glaring at him now.
“Those Indians dey use juju. They’re using ma-magic.”
“Yes! Yes!” his teammates echoed & nodded & murmured amongst themselves.
“Shut up you fools!! Magic my foot!!! There is no magic in football!”

Music BusinessMusic Promotion Is A Lot Like Dating by entadaplace(op): 12:33pm On May 25, 2013
Here is another article written by 4Lah, i think it is worth reading. Another great piece.

5778877be1a35482f319be586a4e5dc3_M

Have you ever thought about music promotion and romance at the same time? Never? Well, by the time you finish reading this, you most likely will find a relationship between music promo and dating.

Music Promotion is a lot like dating.

But most self-promoting artistes don't think about it that way. And because of that, they struggle to get noticed, connect with fans, and make the kind of money they should.

check out some things about dating, that you can apply to your music promotion efforts and see results.

1) Don't settle for just anybody-- search for your true soul mates. (in this case, your true fans)

You've heard the jokes. "He's not Mr. Desirable, but he's Mr. Available." When people feel desperate to be with someone, they settle. Instead of finding the right match, they pursue relationships that have little long-term potential. "Well, it's better than being alone," they say.

Do you do the same with your music promotion? Are you out to catch the interest of anyone who will listen? Or are you more discerning? The best way to proceed with a music career is to first decide who your ideal fan is. Who is your music-related soul mate?

How old are they? Do they tend to be male or female? Where do they hang out online and off? Where do they shop? What magazines, blogs and web sites do they read?

Know who you want to attract. Then focus on reaching only those types of people.

2) Get to know your fans first

What do you do on a first date with someone you really think has potential? Do you talk endlessly about yourself and how great you are? Or do you listen a lot and have a two-way dialogue?

Sadly, most people feel the need to impress others with how cool they are. So they launch into a laundry list of everything they've ever accomplished in their lives. Unfortunately, this approach leaves the other person feeling more neglected than impressed.

It's the same with music promotion. It's not all about you and your needs. Get to know your audience and what their interests and concerns are. Listen more than you talk. Share some of yourself and your story as you get to know them better. Give your fans a chance to know, like and trust you.

3) Don't forget pre-intimacy

Okay. You're excited. You met someone new who really likes you. You anticipate the potential pleasure you will both experience together so much, you can taste it. It's time to move in for the grand finale, right?

Wait! Calm down!! Ease into the blessed event. Warm each other up first.

From a music promotion standpoint, that means you don't have to be so quick to ask for the sale. Wine and dine your fans (figuratively) before you flash your "Buy Now" button. Tease them a little with samples and insights into your songs. Leave them wanting more!

Consumers generally need to be exposed to something they enjoy 7 to 10 times before they get out their wallets to make a purchase. So expect and allow for this delayed gratification as you promote yourself.

4) Be a great music lover

When the time comes to consummate the relationship, make sure you deliver the best goods you can. Make it a joyful and stimulating experience for all concerned -- one your fans will remember (and maybe even tell many others about) for years to come.

That means you must create an unforgettable experience (be it a Promo CD, Mixtape, Album or live performance) filled with benefits that make each fan feel good. Make yours the best music in your genre. Thrill your fan partners so much, they'll want to recreate the experience again and again.

That's your goal as a self-promoting artiste: Create moments your fans will want to duplicate over and over -- all the while telling their friends about you and the great time they had.

5) Contact them and ask for another date

Finally, don't leave your fans hanging after your first meaningful encounter. Get back in touch soon to thank them and let them know how much you enjoyed the experience.

This means you must follow up after the album/mixtape release or the live show. Why? Because, if it was good for both of you, you want the relationship to continue. You want to interact more and enjoy more positive experiences (including music and merchandise sales) together.

Therefore, you must put a huge emphasis on building and using a fan mailing list. Capture the name and email address of everyone who has a positive experience with your music. Then input those details into a database and send messages to your fan list on a regular basis.

See, there is a connection between dating and music promotion.

So, from now on, when you're engaged in music promotion activities, I encourage you to think about dating smiley

CelebritiesWhy You Should Trademark Your Stage Name Early! by entadaplace(op): 2:31pm On May 23, 2013
Branding is everything. Today, artistes typically make more money selling their brands than they do selling their music. Trademark is the legal mechanism that protects brands. Therefore, you should trademark your brand name. If you’re an artiste, that means you should trademark your stage name or band name.

If you’re really serious about your musical career there is no reason to wait until you “blow up” to take this important step. Actually, waiting can lead to big time headaches and legal issues down the road.
Do you remember when Common was Common Sense? Do you know why he changed his name? He changed his name because he was sued for infringing on the trademark of a lesser known band. Do you want to spend years building your career and brand only to be forced to change your name later? Of course not.
It is a good idea to make sure no one else can claim a trademark in your chosen stage name as early as possible and then trademark the name yourself.
You can register your trademark – a name, logo, slogan, domain name, shape, color or sound with the Commercial Law department, Ministry of Trade and Investment in Nigeria.

Registering a federal trademark, however, is not cheap. The application fee is non-refundable. The complexity of trademark law make it prudent to consult with a lawyer, who can perform, or arrange for the performance, of exhaustive searches and has the expertise to analyze the results to ensure the name is clear.
But there are significant benefits to owning a federally registered trademark:

• – You reserve the right to use the mark throughout the entire nation and prevent others from acquiring rights in confusingly similar marks.
• – Your mark is presumed to be valid, which means that the burden is on the other party using a confusingly similar mark to prove your mark is invalid.
• – After five years of continuous use after registering your mark, you can file an affidavit and make your mark “incontestable.”
• – You can facilitate the registration of your mark in foreign countries or via international registration protocols.
Notwithstanding the above discussion, a forced name change is not necessarily a career killer. After all, Common has been more successful since the name change.

Anyway, this is just basic information to let you know how important this is to your career. Bear in mind that I’m not a lawyer, so this article should not be construed as legal advice or legal opinion on any specific facts or circumstances.

Celebrities[photos] The Lady Called Afrocandy NIGERIA'S NUMBER 1 PORN STAR by entadaplace(op): 1:45pm On May 23, 2013
Not exactly sure why she is in the news – and quite traumatized by all that pornography talk, we have kept a safe distance from this story, but then everybody seems to be talking about Judith Mazagwu, the sensation called Afrocandy. She recently made news and got blogs running into overdrive after she released a very racy trailer for her movie, Destructive Instinct 3 & 4.

So, we have dug deep and spent painful hours trying to figure out Nigeria’s latest tabloid sensation. Thank us later.

In introducing her a few weeks ago, the famous blogger, Linda Ikeji said: “Normally I would say soft porn…but there’s nothing soft about this one. Lol. Afrocandy and her team went in! I watched the movie trailer with my mouth open. Who the heck is this woman? The ashewo movie contains a lot of sex scenes, bare asses and boobies. This is by far the worst I’ve seen. Produced by Afrocandy and starring Afrocandy.”

Afrocandy describes herself as a Nigerian actress/artist/song & script writer, producer and singer (incorporated, international, unlimited, consortium). Her ex-husband describes her as a cheat, liar and bad mother to her two teenage daughters, fans describe her as sexy and brave, Naija runz girl presenter, Lolita says her work is an artistic masterpiece and she is a master of charisma.

Judith Mazagwu was born a twin in July, 12 1971 in a small town in Nigeria.

According to her MySpace page, modelling agent, King George Models discovered her and suggested that she goes into acting.

As Judith Mazagwu before the birth of Afrocandy, she started out with commercials like Coca Cola, Nixoderm, Liberia G.S.M, among others and acted as extras in the movies.

She landed a big role in the movie “Dangerous Sisters” as Susan where she worked along Dakore Egbuson, Genevieve Nnaji, Tony Umez, Alex Usifo and Tina Amuziam.

Afroncandy’s marriage to Elumelu Mazagwu ended in 2007, 2 years after she joined him in the United States. Something might have snapped after that and the character Afrocandy took over.

Mazagwu speaking to the Daily Sun made allegations that his wife had multiply partners, he said:

“In the apartment I rented for her, she had affairs with the landlord because she lied about her marital status. She didn’t tell the man she was married. It was only when trouble broke out that the landlord knew her real status. Also, a guy across the street, named Goddy from Abia State, laid accusations on her. She couldn’t deny this. I know Goddy; whenever I came to town, she would tell me that Goddy was a chief from Abia State and I took them that way, not knowing they were dating.”

In 2009, she dropped the name Judith Mazagwu and started booking shows as Afrocandy releasing her single “Somebody help me/ Ikebe na money “.

In the song she said she wanted a very special man, “Where all the pipo wey be say they get moni, where una dey, somebody help me.”

In an interview with the Daily Sun published on September 3, 2010, she said she tried to save her marriage but he wouldn’t take her back:

“There has been lots of rumours going on about my marriage and it is only a few people who know the truth. The fact is, I did not leave my husband; my husband rather left, due to some gossip he heard about something that happened back in Nigeria before I joined him in the US.

I begged him and he came back. When he left the second time that pushed me to give him a restraining order. I really would not like to go into details because I see that as past and I will like the past to remain where it belongs because I have moved on; talking about it takes me backward.”

Afrocandy struggled to break into the entertainment industry after she found herself single with two kids. She used to hang around Hollywood sets during the shooting of major films and got a few small roles along the line.

She came back to the country to find work but that wasn’t easy either. NaijaFilms’ Murphy Fadairo said Afrocandy approached elegant stallion Onyeka Onwenu in 2010 at an artistes unite for the president concert. She asked Onwenu if she could perform a song she did for Mr. President but she got the shock of her life when Onyeka rubbished her by saying “what rubbish song, come on get out of my sight”; I am not in charge here. The visibly embarrassed Afrocandy composed herself and after some time she found out that it was because Onyeka Onwenu also did a song for Mr. President that was why she had to react that way; and she was still finding how to get to the president for her own cut of the national cake, Fadairo reports.

In 2011, her estranged husband granted an interview claiming a DNA test revealed that their second child was not his, an allegation Afro Candy replied immediately to as being angry comments from a man who has just been jilted.

However, Afrocandy showed she had moved on when she went on to release “Voodoo-Juju Woman” that year.

That same year, Chief Kamoru Okiki Aremu, Ibadan millionaire and president of the Agbekoya Movement Worldwide was said to have been madly in love with her and proposed. He provided her with unlimited access to cash, bought a bungalow and a Hummer 3 jeep for AfroCandy.

n 2012, she branched out into new grounds. She released sexual explicit photos from the set of her (porn) movie. Prior to that, Nigerians were struggling to get used to actress Cossy Orjiakor and her eye popping boobs which she always shoved at the camera but Afrocandy took it up a notch with full frontal nudity, scenes of a sexual nature and photos received in very bad taste by the Nigerian public.

She even went on to advertise a casting for ladies who didn’t mind being nude in front of the camera and wanted a career in the “acting” industry. She reportedly received a lot of hate mails and death threats.

Still battling a potential lawsuit from her actor, Afrocandy went on to announce plans to cast Nollywood actresses Uche Ogbodo and Anita Joseph including Cossy to star in another porn movie.

It’s not the first time Afrocandy has teamed up with big Nollwood names though (see photos) but none were pornographic in nature. Afrocandy seems to think, times have changed and they would agree to act porn.

But Ogbodo said there was no chance in hell. In a statement, Ogbodo reacted fiercely:

I, Uche Ogbodo, emphatically state that I am an actress and not a porn star. The fact that I was just experimenting and having fun with the ‘Lady Gaga’ red hair photo shoot is not an excuse for the likes of AfroCandy to insult me.

If I ever decide to strip in a movie, trust me, it’d be worth it like Halle Berry did in Monster’s Ball and Swordfish. Right now I am in talks with a reputable artiste management outfit to represent me and re-invent myself.

Uche Ogbodo.

So what would Afrocandy do next?

CelebritiesD’banj Signs Durella by entadaplace(op): 12:54pm On May 20, 2013
D’banj‘s quest for dominance in the Nigerian music scene won’t stop now; he might have lost out on signing Olamide and Davido – but he has nicked another artiste, this time a familiar friend-foe.

The self-proclaimed ‘African Michael Jacskon‘, we’ve learnt has signed his friend-turned-foe-turned-friend Oluwadamilare Okulaja better known to the public as Durella.

The move might however not come as a surprise to everyone, considering that Banger Lee (that’s D’banj’s new nickname by the way) and the ‘King of the Zanga’ Durella recently settled their differences. Some weeks back, D’banj and his DB Records crew released a single ‘Ibadi e‘ off their compilation album (D’ King’s Men) which featured a verse from Durella.

Fans were very excited to see the pair had reunited after a very long and well publicized fall out between the pop acts.

CelebritiesThe Sex Tape Is Old! Close Source Confirms On Moet Abebe Sex Tape Scandal by entadaplace(op): 12:27pm On May 20, 2013
Interesting news we’ve got here: reports of a leaked sex tape involving a popular female VJ and an unidentified man have recently trolled the internet.

The story which was over the weekend reported by celebrity journalist Abiola Aloba of Maestro Media who claimed to have watched the sex tape, clearly gave hints on the female participant, who according to him, is a ‘popular hostess on a cable network, hosting a musical show who always holds her audience spellbound by her delivery’.

He took the pain of describing her physical features; ‘…Not too tall, very shapely with big eye balls, she looks like an angel’, her name, ‘…she sounds like ‘champagne’, we are not talking ‘Brut or Rose’ and even her family ties, ‘…and seems connected to the family of a former ruler, at least by her second name’.

Even a fool would easily match Aloba’s description with popular Soundcity VJ Laura Monyeazo Abebe better known as Moet Abebe. She is the daughter of John Abebe, the brother of the late first lady, Stella Obasanjo.

The 23-year-old returned to Nigeria in 2011 after studying Law at Manchester University, UK. Moet, an aspiring model well known for her impeccable command of English Language, has featured in a couple of music videos including Lynxxx’s ‘Alabukun’ feat Banky W, Show Dem Camp’s ‘Getting you’, Wizkid’s ‘Pakurumo’. At Soundcity, she currently hosts the ‘1 on 1’ with Moet show and covers routine events.

We learn she is in a relationship with an MTV Base staff and is quite fond of him (she, from time to time puts up his photos on her instagram page, referring to him as her ‘boo’). She has however been linked with a number of entertainers in the past, including Don Jazzy, Dr SID, May D, rappers Terry tha Rapman, M.I, Loose Kaynon, Beazy and producer Kid Konnect.

A source close to the VJ confirms she’s actually the person in the video but explains that it’s quite old. ‘It’s her but it’s an old video, it was shot years back. I wonder why they are bringing it up again’, our source who pleaded anonymity told us.

NET cannot confirm the identity of the participants in the video.

Moet when reached on the telephone by our reporter didn’t confirm or deny the story, opting for the ‘no comment’ statement.

Interestingly, gathering comments filtering in on several blogs that have picked up the sex scandal story, Moet seems to have the highest mentions.

It’s not the first time we’ve heard of a sex tape. In the past, actress Empress Njamah was rumoured to have also been in one although the actress vehemently denied it…

Music/RadioNaeto C Quits Storm Records by entadaplace(op): 12:14pm On May 20, 2013
In the last 15 months, the Nigerian entertainment scene has witnessed more label shakedowns than we could have ever imagined. And the breakup season isn’t over yet…

Rapper Naetochukwu Chikwe better known as Naeto C has ended his relationship with Storm Records, the music home where he launched his career into the Nigerian music market.

NET investigations have revealed that the rapper plans to fully launch his WKG/Cerious Music label in a matter of months.

Unlike the many breakups that have preceded Naeto’s, the rapper’s exit is not battlemented; both parties have been very silent about the issue. As a matter of fact, Storm Records insist that the rapper is still signed with them.

One of the label’s directors Tola Odunsi admits that Naeto has had his own record label Cerious Music for a while but is still with Storm.

‘Naeto has had his record label for a while at least 3 years it’s called Cerious Music – his music is being pushed as a joint venture btw storm 360 and Cerious Music. Nothing has changed’, Odunsi responded to our enquiry via E-mail.

Naeto C’s profile is still active on the Storm Records official website but then again, we can’t take that seriously as General Pype (an artiste who has since parted ways with the label) also has his profile on the website.

An inside source however says Naeto has indeed left and his upcoming project will not be released under the Storm Records imprint. One insider said: ‘It is true Naeto started Cerious Music a few years back but the launch of his new outfit WKG (meaning White Kaftan Gang) will see him act fully as an independent artiste.’

WKG kicked off in the middle of 2012 with the launch of his ‘Tony Montana (Bad pass)’ video featuring D’banj. We are told he also plans to sign Lagos producer E-Kelly.

Storm Records was also not listed as one of the organizers of his first ever solo US tour which ran from late March to early May 2013.

Naeto who remains silent on the issue (he refused to reply our E-mail messages) has been busy though: he welcomed his first child while on tour in the US and returned to Nigeria to seal a deal with telecoms company Globacom as an ambassador. Popular artiste manager Godwin Tom also says Naeto is his new client.

Naeto joined Storm Records in 2006, returning from the US where he had already formed a rap group with close friend Ikechukwu and his younger brother Uzikwendu called ‘World Famous Akademy’. With the smash hit single ‘Kini big deal’, he released his debut album ‘You Know my P’ in 2008; parted ways with Ikechukwu who left Strorm in 2010 and then released a successful second album ‘Super C Season’ in February 2011.

Storm Records headed by Obi Asika and Olisa Adibua (the pair are currently in a legal battle) have in the past signed an impressive long list of acts including Jazzman Olofin, Darey, GT the Guitarman, 2shotz, General Pype. They currently have on their roaster rappers Sasha, Yung6ix, Pop singer Ms Jaie, Urban-Pop group L.O.S and gospel singer Tosin Martins.
Music/RadioPaying Money For Radio Airplay – My Thoughts About It All – 4lah by entadaplace(op): 11:41am On May 20, 2013
I’m really impressed by this write up on war against #Payola by 4lah real names Fola Folayan. I’m sure lovers of Nigeria music industry all jump on this war against #Payola after reading this article.

Here’s the article on war against #payola by 4Lah.
For a while now, I have labored over this subject of paying for airplay otherwise known as payola, but I had to take a hard critical look at it from all angles before deciding to write about it.

The Nigerian music industry is growing and there is increased competition for audience and radio airplay. It’s a survival of the fittest, dog eat dog situation here, such that, artistes are forced to bribe or tip their way into getting regular radio airplay.

Payola, in the American music industry, is the illegal practice of payment or other inducement by record companies for the broadcast of recordings on music radio in which the song is presented as being part of the normal day’s broadcast. (Wikipedia)

Payola is as old as the music industry itself, with artistes signed to Major Record Labels or independent artistes with large bank accounts (not necessarily with good songs) dominating the airwaves.

How did we get here? What did we do wrong? These are questions to be answered in other articles, but let’s talk about what obtains now. As an artiste, do you know how your song should get on a radio station’s playlist?

HOW THINGS “SUPPOSEDLY” WORK
I have been privileged to work as a broadcaster in several radio stations in Nigeria, (in fact, I still work in one) and the usual and official way songs make it into the library is this:

(Bearing in mind, the peculiar Naija situation) When a single gets released, the label rep, artiste manager, or artiste himself, submits his press kit which includes, a copy of the promo CD, and a well written bio addressed to the music department/library depending on the organization.

On reception of the package, the CD is auditioned by the librarian, and if it is up to the station’s standard and passes Broadcast guidelines, it is accepted into the library and included on the station’s music schedule.

Another way it works is if a song is released online and it goes viral or released via club DJ’s and it becomes a club favorite, the radio station’s music department can get the song and schedule it for airplay on their own.

However, all these are ideal situations. In the real world of Nigerian music promotion, things work very differently!

HOW THINGS REALLY WORK!
OK! Let’s get into the real world now.
Getting a song “added” to a station’s playlist to get a certain number of plays per week involves a rather byzantine process that brings in various parties, called independent promoters. These “promoters” are first paid by the label. It’s important to note that the money the promoters receive isn’t necessarily compensation paid directly to them for getting Presenters to get a song played. Rather, they work more like an intermediary to pass the label’s money to the presenters and librarians.

And in the case of the independent artiste who is financing his own career, he is usually left at the mercy of the radio presenters and librarians who are at liberty to set whatever price they see fit.

Other times, some of these “independent promoters” or “publicists” are contracted by the artistes, who believe they have all the necessary contacts on radio. Unfortunately, more often than not, these “contacts” are non-existent or casual acquaintances with no real connection or even “someone who knows someone, who knows someone”.

As a result, the artiste is swindled out of his “hard-hustled” money, all in the name of “promo”.

MY PROBLEM WITH PAYOLA

Like I said earlier, I have been doing these for a while now (and by doing this, I mean working on radio) I have been exposed to the payola system for a long time, and at some point, been a part of that system. However, it has never really sat down well with me.
I strongly believe it is wrong for any radio presenter/librarian to set himself/herself up as a shylock to demand outrageous financial compensation from an artiste in exchange for airplay. This is an act that is deplorable and it’s unfortunate to see it getting out of hand to the extent that some radio presenters see it as a supplementary means of income. Sad isn’t it?

We have gotten ourselves to the point where radio presenters have been elevated to a celebrity “not to be questioned” status. Some presenters have also cashed in on this undeserved privilege to create an impression that they are “untouchable” and can “make or break” an artiste’s career!

The most painful part of all this for me, in fact the pain is almost physical, is After an artiste has hustled up some good cash to settle these “tax-collecting presenters”, they still have to beg, grovel, pray, and almost visit “babalawo” for their music to get played!
This is the height of heartlessness and evil! You have been paid, why on earth is it difficult for you to do the job you’ve been paid for?
Greed rules this industry such that, presenters will ask for an astronomical sum from an upcoming artiste with a substandard material, knowing that the song won’t make it to radio, but their greed won’t allow them to reject the material. Rather, they will demand for money and won’t play the song.

If you are an artiste and you’re reading this, I’m sure you have your own stories to tell.

There’s a lot to say about this messy business of payola, and this is just the beginning. We need to get out of this present system. It isn’t doing any good and I must say I was quite disappointed with the music segment of the just concluded Nigeria Entertainment Conference organized by the Nigerian Entertainment Today newspaper (NET).

How come, NOBODY on that panel saw it fit to talk about this cankerworm making it increasing difficult for talented emerging artistes to get their deserved airplay?

You should have seen me raising my hands frantically during the question and answer session. Unfortunately, I got passed over by the moderator.

Anyway, this matter has been opened now. We will no longer keep quiet. We will declare war on PAYOLA until we see a positive change. Until upcoming artistes are no longer intimidated and swindled by greedy “promoters” and “tax-collecting” presenters and librarians.

Somehow, some way, things have to change.

This is the beginning.

Lol, Afrocandy, you no fit! She wants Cossy Orjiakor, Anita Joseph and Uche Ogbodo to appear in her next soft porn flick…and promises it will happen. Erm, don’t hold your breath. It’s highly unlikely. Uche Ogbodo did say she can act nude but acting nude is different from perfecting a sex act. Plus I doubt she can afford them. But let’s keep out fingers crossed.

Celebrities7 Real Differences Between Men And Women by entadaplace(op): 4:35pm On May 17, 2013
The result of this is that men tend to be logical in proffering solutions to issues, while women tend to be comparatively emotional in their thinking.

Whoever coined the saying: “when you assume, you make an ‘ass’ of ‘u’ and ‘me,’ ” must have been a sage. The genesis of the average error is normally traced to an assumption, BUT, some assumptions are predominantly true; for instance, we cannot assume that Boko Haram would simply love to hold hands with Goodluck Jonathan and sing Kumbaya by a campfire, but we can assume that backhanding a soldier is tantamount to wearing a suit and jumping in a casket.

It is therefore conventional to assume that differences exist between men and women, but beyond obvious contrasts in physiology, there are other notable points of dissimilarity between most men and women. Note that there will always be exceptions to the rule…anomalies.

Not all males are broad-shouldered, chest-thumping, testosterone-spitting macho-men, as some are prancing effeminate fellows (not necessarily gay); and in the same vein, not all women are delicately dainty creatures, as there is always a Weird MC/Grace Jones/Lady of Rage who acts so manly that one cannot help but wonder if they possess the God-given natural ‘fireman apparatus’ that enables them to point and spray pee. However, the following are valid distinctions between most men and women:
