Hopefully one day we will be that team that punishes others for not taking their chances and not the other way round.

Afrodoc2 won't playing Greenwood on the RW affect him? Looks like he's not really cut for that position

Maybe we would have Neymar and/or Mbappe OR been able to get Ororo back. Anyway the Glazers crippled the club long ago.

Then if we go into the details of how the money was spent or misspent, they are the ones who have allowed a finance man who knows nothing about football to be in charge of our transfers.
Yeah about Ed, I wonder where they brought that guy from. He's very cunny

So let's say if the Glazers were to spend their own money too, we probably may have spent around 1b in the last 5 years right?

Age, poor health and fatigue had set in. He just couldn't summon that drive and passion like before. Remember he planned on retiring earlier but changed his mind. He just wanted one last title for the road.
Also he had been coaching at a high level continuously for almost 40 yrs.
City winning the league annoyed him

Like they were able to convince the banks that they will definitely buy united instead of using their own assest as collateral, they used the club's own.
Uhm from what afrodoc2 explained, sounds like they transferred collateral or asset from whatever it was to United assets

They didn't own the club. Fans were planning to revolt when this happened in 04/05, and a few fans actually revolted. Manchester United had NO DEBT before the Glazers bought the club.

They loaded the club with the debt of the loans they had used to buy the club. The banks agreed because everybody knew that United would continue making money and pay back the loans with interest.
Okay I understand what happened now. Never bothered to look it up before.

Mrta7, technically who owns the club?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 5:29pm On Aug 19, 2020
afrodoc2:
They are spending enough of the money made by the club to keep the club competitive enough to keep on making money.

They have not spent any of their own money. The club they own was bought via loans to be paid back by the club.

Other clubs owned by billionaires get extra money from their owners for transfers, our own billionaires use the money the club generates to pay off debt they caused in the first place, then pay themselves huge allowances before thinking of buying players.

They know if they stop spending completely the club will run down fast and stop making money. There is a reason during Fergie's time the club was selling Ronaldo for world record fee and replacing him with Valencia and co. When he left they tried to continue the same policy with piece meal Fellaini signing until reality struck.

Let's not make the Glazers up to be some kindly and generous benefactors. They are leeches who played a major role in all that has happened post Fergie.
But I'm looking at the data now, and we have spent more than everyone in the epl except city. I think this is the major issue here and not how they bought the club or how they are spending the club's money. What I'm looking at now is how bad we have been when it comes to spending money on transfers
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 4:57pm On Aug 19, 2020
afrodoc2:
Not just that they borrowed money to buy the club. They secured the loans against the club's assets thereby incurring large interests which the club then had to (and continue to) pay.
Also, every year they award themselves millions of pounds as consultancy fees, then pay off some of the debt before using some of the money made by the club to pay for player purchase and salaries.

If you analyse this scenario they have not spent their personal money at all. Compare this with City, PSG e.t.c where the authentic billionaire owners augment club finances with their money in order to finance huge transfers.
They used the assets of the club to secure the loan? This sounds like some gangster shit. They already owned the club or how were they able to use the club assets to secure the loan used in buying the club?

It is not that simple. The Glazers are leeches and have been taking money out of the club for years. Do you remember the details of their takeover and why we keep paying off debt every year?
Lol I know that. In as much as they have all these things going on and are running the club down, we can't accuse them of not spending money, at least in the last 5 years. I'll like to get your view on this

where was the money spent on? Is united spending or overpaying for players?
United will continue to overspend when you don't have proper scouting departments and proper transfer policies, Imagine a club like United doesn't have a director of football?
Even the spending was down to a new manager coming in and saying "Get me player X and Y"
When has United buy ever been strategic in the last 5 years?
Just recently when Ole came we have had some sort of direction.
You are comparing United to City? grin grin a club that is properly run, identifies their target and go for them without making noise or arguing over transfer fee of 10M.
Even liverpool that hasn't outspent us you see the value of what they have spent.
How is this a fault of Glazers? I don't understand. They have been releasing money, they still released 200m last season. It's not their fault if the money is spent wrongly

Don't we need additions desperately? Shouldn't Ole call out Woodward when he is debating with Dortmund over a 10M fee?

What's the talk about Ole losing 3 semifinals, FFS even the 'special one' couldn't even lead us to 3 semifinals in a season. Do I think ole needs to improve on the tactical side? Yes.
Do united players need to improve? Yes
Should Woodward do his job better? HYFR!!!
Should the Glazers improve and put more money in to the club? FFS yes!

If we want to apportion blame let's do it evenly. No be every time "ole this ole that". Nobody on this thread ever calls out the Glazers Nobody!!! For una e no dey pass Ole and Rashford.
Only City has outspent us in the last 5 years. Let that sink in. Glazers have not been stingy with the money

Herrera is still heavily limited. That he is in the UCL final means little because he hardly contributed to his team’s efforts to get there.

Yesterday, Marquinhos and Parades were the ones pulling the strings in midfield. Herrera? He was hiding behind opposition players.

Don’t be surprised if he was omitted from the final starting XI.

Lukaku I’d give more credit because he’s a goalscorer. However, his teamplay is not top notch. If United need a striker without much teamplay I’d go for him.

Unfortunately, United is a team that teams will sit back and defend against. If your teamplay isn’t top notch and your teammates aren’t KdB, Messi or Ozil, you will struggle.

The less said of Sanchez the better. That guy can not perform in a team with huge expectations.

And the Italian league is way easier than the premier league.
The point is we can't have world class in every position. It's not possible. We can list at least 7 players that are very well above average in this team. At least let those ones play at their highest level first. We will bring in new guys and after some games, people will begin to question their ability. We have seen this play out too many times in this team. Let the ones we have currently play up to their ability first. The board will be more than willing to go all out to get some targets because it will be obvious by then what is missing in the team.

If you were among the decision makers, will you bring in players to bench your 200k plus earners, knowing fully well that the coach or someone assured you of their contribution to the team? If we want new players, let them sell some of the ones we have currently.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 12:41pm On Aug 19, 2020
The point is that we can do better with what we have. If we continue to play like we did against Sevilla, create all those chances and limit the opponent as much as we did, we will win many more points that we did last season and win a trophy along the way

I hope it is not his ceiling cos he has shortcomings even defensively that he needs to work on.

When he has his man in front of him in 1 v 1 battle he is imperious but he does not have great positioning or awareness and he is not good in the air for his height.

In terms of his ability going forward, he doesn't need the attackers to help him control and move the ball better than atilogwu dancer. I watched his clips from Crystal Palace and predicted he would be a liability in attack. If he continues like this next season the fans will turn on him (and they might be back in the stadium to show it).
There is more to being a modern full back than making sliding tackles.

P.S And the cross was okay. Calling it "wonderful" is a bit hyperbolic.
You may be probably right about AWB. However Herrera, Lukaku and co will be playing European finals soon. They are also judged to be heavily limited. At the end of the day, an excellent coach, a balanced team with a mix of some world class players, we should be fine

There's still more to come from AWB with the right guidance. I'm sure you insist this is his ceiling, I'm not seeing it. Maybe I'll see it later when the attackers are doing their jobs, but for now, I no see am

GloryIsaac:
They fully focus on low crosses, and that’s down to some reasons.

1. The coach’s style of play
2. The fullbacks high crossing ability (which is poor)
3. The attackers heading ability (looks below average)

So they prefer to play with ball to feet, that’s why they spent more time making quick passes in Sevilla’s box, than actually scoring goals.
1. We shouldn't complain about crosses again since that's the coach style of play. We shouldn't berate AWB, Williams, Shaw for lack of cross

2. We haven't seen enough to make a real judgment yet. At least, not this season. In fact AWB assisted Martial at the bridge via a wonderful cross

3. A one time cross into the box before the defenders regroup can afford our attackers some space to do damage. And if it's low cross, we should have an attacker arriving at the near post in front of the defenders, not behind them
