Aim for top 4 again?

Oloriburuku
lol but that should be the realistic aim now. The only problem is that he is too stubborn and egoistic. He does not accept where he is wrong. If not how do you explain playing such tactics for the whole season, exposing your backline and keeper to all sorts of attack, only to change when everything has spoiled. We played much better in our last 3 games because the gaps in our midfield reduced, and not because we had players return from injury. But its much easier for him to blame injuries because he wants to play one nonsense style that should be binned.

Atalanta press is crazy.. Successfully did it against Liverpool and now Leverkusen..

Players running for full 90mins 😞
When they scored their first goal, I knew Leverkusen were in trouble. Those guys were sharper, faster and stronger

I don't understand this bias for Rashford. You can't continue to do the barest minimum or below this minimum and expect the rewards that should go to those that worked their ass off. Even Ronaldo at 39 is still grinding and hustling. He is not expecting anything for free. The Rashford had even lost his place in the England starting line up. Let him spend this summer to think about his life and make up his mind on what he wants to do next

Onana with his playstyle will have crazy off days but with a stable defence in front of him, he has shown he's capable of holding his own. One thing he has going is his mentality. He has shown that during his Ajax days, he showed that at Inter as well. He was very instrumental in their run to the CL final.

Even if you pit prime Neuer between the sticks with the way the team defended this season, there won't be much difference in the number of goals conceded. As a matter of fact Onana had the highest goal prevention of any keeper this season in the league.

Let's give him a stable defense and see how far. Same applies to Hoijlund, he was the least passed to from teammates among strikers in the PL this season. Imagine that. They were barely creating anything for him and he was feeding on scraps. Oga turned to a wrestler out of frustration. I pray whoever is in charge next season addresses these issues.
Thanks to the coach that came to end eras cheesy

Claiming aerial balls as well, but that’s not as important as distribution.

Onana is outstanding in passing ability and distribution. No top team has a keeper who can’t distribute.

De Gea has better reflexes and shot stopping ability. Onana isn’t very much behind him in that regard but you can make the argument that there’s still a difference.
I don't want to turn this to DDG vs Onana.

I think Onana is a good keeper but I dont think he'll be a great one. I dont think he's commanding enough even though he's probably more commanding that DDG who wasnt commanding at all. Onana's shot stopping probably not as good as DDG but honestly I think they're roughly the same level. Onana does seem like he might have more space to improve while DDG isnt going to get any better.
I think Onana's 1 v1 is pretty good but again room for improvement for the level we need. I dont think we're in a position to change keeper again considering what we invested so maybe we have to find a way to make it work. I also dont think Raya is special but he's good enough for Arsenal so maybe Onana can get to that level.
Hopefully we get a new coach that can organize the team better so we can fully access Onana next season. He is not at Ederson and Allison level but not many more are better than him

United faced around 600 shots this season alone.

We conceded an average of 17 shots per game. Multiplying that by the 50 odd games we played this season and you’d be close to 600. There’s no way a GK won’t concede loads of goals if they’re exposed to 600 shots.

I’m not saying Onana is the best GK for United , but I’m certain he’s miles ahead of the De Gea that left in several departments.
Other departments like passing abi? That should be the only department sef

Do you think "above average" is good enough for where we want to be?
If we're looking at what we want to change in the team in the next 3 years, where do you rank the keeper, considering the needs we have?

I think it remains to be seen if he's a good buy. He can still be a good buy but I'm not sure you can say that with chest after this season.
He will come good. Probably a little above average. The amount of shots he faced this season is crazy. Nobody deserves that no matter their offense cheesy
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 8:50am On May 20, 2024
Onana is still a good buy. He took some time to settle, and that's understandable considering he just came in and hasn't gotten a constant defensive partnership because of the injuries. ETH's weird tactics also exposed him to a lot of shots. Most goal keepers will struggle under these conditions.

This forward line still has a long way to go. If we don’t get rid of these selfish forwards, the attack will not improve.

It was good to see Rashford eating his nails while sitting on the bench today. No automatic stats for anybody. Perform and gel with the team or sit your ass down on the bench.
They don't play as a team with close bond and friendship yet. Those attackers need to be friends and each other's buddy. The coach needs to make them spend time together off the field so they look out for each other on the field. We don't want any hero mentality next season

We started the first half brighter than we ended it.

As soon as we lost that structure and fluidity, we couldn’t keep the ball anymore. We lost it almost immediately we got it because some players were overambitious and took too much risk. Onana’s long kicks weren’t as accurate as they should be either.

Hope ETH corrects this anomaly in the second half.
I don't know if ETH can correct anything. It's been two years

It's surprising how suddenly you guys started playing like an organised team this past 2 games. It means he knows the solution but for some reason he's just been stubborn or sort
It's very obvious. ETH is just a stubborn goat and he will get what's coming to him.

The last two games has shown they can be much more organized in the midst of these same injuries people have been using as an excuse

It's not rocket science that we'd have offered more threat against Arsenal if Bruno was on the pitch. No one's saying we'd have won the game. But it definitely would have increased our chances. So don't understand what you're getting at.

First leg you're talking about we offered real threat and probably could have won if that offside call went out way.
So if no one is saying we would have won the game, or even gotten a draw, why are we now talking about this? If you're not saying that, then we're on the same page

The team has several problems, to be honest. The reason why we haven't scored plenty this season is because we didn't create enough (as much as other top teams). You can blame that on the team setup/structure (coach) and also, other players didn't contribute enough to chances creation. Bruno alone created almost one-third of our big chances in the league this season.
I don't doubt Bruno's talent and I have no doubt that he is easily our best player no matter how the season turned out.

Bruno is top 3 big chances creator in the league, it's not his fault his teammates are not converting. Also, arsenal didn't play the same way in the first leg.
Bruno tops the chances creator table in the league. However no united player is in the top 10 of chances missed except Rasmus in number 10. No Machester United player is in the top 10 goal scorer. Who and what kind of chances is Bruno creating? I already know the answer because I watch Bruno every match day.

Our players are not missing that much chances compared to others, they are also not scoring as much as other, but Bruno is the highest chances creator. What is the problem?

With the extra quality that would be present if Bruno played, maybe we would have gotten a result

In the arsenal game, the attack was very blunt. Arsenal sat back and we needed someone to give penetrating passes and also take shots from outside the box, that's were Bruno would have improved the attack. Amrabat on one occasion had a good chance to put Hojlund through on goal, he failed.
Can you tell me how many clean chances Hojlund has gotten from Bruno this season? The one he scored yesterday was not even a chance. Rasmus managed to score that from nowhere.

Bruno is supposed to even be better when opponents don't sit back so he can throw his quick long passes for an attacker to run into. Their sitting back creates a big problem for him and Arsenal would have found a solution for him easily. He was there in the first leg
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 7:11am On May 16, 2024
If the useless ETH had focused on control and keeping things tight at the back seeing we were losing our players to injury, we wouldn't be in this position. All of a sudden, the huge gap that was a recurrence in the midfield is no more there. Who is the new defender or midfielder that is responsible for this? ETH has to be tried for his many crimes

maik99:
Bruno himself has been a victim of whatever rubbish tactics we have been playing this season
Agreed. So what guarantee do we have that things might have been different if Bruno played against Arsenal? Because that is the narrative now. Bruno has not been Bruno this season because of ETH tactics, yeah? So why do we want to change the narrative and expect something different if Bruno had played that game? All the many other loses and rubbish we played, Bruno fully participated and there are hundreds of comments calling Bruno out. But because he missed this one and we lost, it is because Bruno didn't play
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 10:39pm On May 15, 2024
