You just cannot compare a team that finished UCL semi final losing 0-1 on aggregate to Madrid, to a team which finished 5th in the league.

Otamendi who has played a big role in stabilizing City defence and ensure a transition from Kompany to the current was not bought by Guardiola. Stones deal was advanced before the arrival of Guardiola.

I remember, my argument was clear and same, City core players were still sharp to ensure a transition to Guardiola. Aguero, Silva, Fernadino, Otamendi, Kevin De Bruyne etc. Kompany could still offer a solid one year at the time. Sterling was there.

You cannot argue we had a better team than City which won the league and finished fourth in UCL at a time we were struggling to finish in between 4th & 6th in the league.

Some clearly said better. It was Raumdeuter who started it by saying that Mourinho inherited a better team. I was surprised when some United fans supported him. Except may be those are not United fans because many change their moniker every time making it hard to identify certain people. But at least I know I still recognize some United fans who have kept their moniker or have not changed too frequently. Some are recognized from their posts history.

You can say it on this board that even when I was defending Mou, I have always stated that we have some wack players. Mou decided to keep playing them regularly coupled with his bad tactics/system, he’s now out of a job.

Mou is gone but those players are still here, we need to get rid of them. I do not subscribe to the school of thoughts that our players are good enough to compete at the top. I believe the following players need to leave to loaned out:
Darmain
Rojo
Valencia
Young
Matic
Fellaini
Jones
Mata (reduced playing time)
Rashford (loan)
McTominay (loan)

If you are among those who supported we had better players than Manchester City, your excuse now would not stand any test. Players better than Manchester City players do not need any strengthening for any coach to hit the ground running.

Lukaku and Matic were surely not Mourinho's first choices. Bailly did not come in as an established CB. Only Pogba I can say was the top target Mourinho wanted and was bought for him. The rest were options down the ladder of scale of preference .
