odizeey: Ten Hag and the club knew the boy's potential and they paid top money for him.
They can't be paying 70 million for someone and calling it potential. The major issue is not that they paid 70m for potential. Its that we needed a quality ready made first. I don't see any in the market aside Kane though |

Leyqute: Our defense isn’t made up of De Gea alone, yu know. If not for De Gea sef, we would’ve had one more clean sheet.
Only God knows how he fumbled that back pass from Benrahma vs West Ham.
I was only analyzing our season based on the facts on ground. If you look at things holistically, our defenders (GK included) contributes to our attack and our attackers also (CF included) also determine how good our defense will be. LOL you're doing well. Everyone must work together whether in attack or defence |

Leyqute: Our biggest problem from last season wasn't our defence, it was our attack.
Our GK won the golden glove and although we conceded astronomically high in 2 games, only Man City and Newcastle let in more goals than us.
On the other end of the pitch, we were very poor. We under performed our xG and scored less than everybody in the top 6 plus Tottenham.
Adding Harry Kane or any prolific goal scorer will automatically take us higher. It's either that or Antony, Bruno and Hoijund put on their scoring boots (at least 10 EPL goals each). We can't continue to rely on Rashford to be our goal scorer. It won't take us up there with City. Ahh this is interesting |

TrebleChamp: Now Chelsea is going for Amrabat, he want United only according to reports. But if Ten Hag no make the decision to sign him soon, he might just be heading to Chelsea or any other club. £25m is a steal, United should pls do this deal or get me my Bruno Guimareas for any amount. Same Klopp that was ranting when United signed Dablord for £89m that year, just signed Caicedo for £110m. It will be interesting to see how we cope if we don't get new quality midfielders |

ChristoBam: He doesn't and we can't afford him. Just saying all that cuz some were laughing at the idea of getting Kane after getting Hojlund, even if we could afford him.
Our target next season is top 4 and a trophy. League's looking like it'll be bloody. You thought we will just jump right into competing for the league because we have spent 400m plus? If we manage to be in competition for the league with 7-10 matches to go, ETH would have done well in my opinion. We still need to get the team playing as a team first, and that the players remember that the match starts from the zero minute for every match |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 11:39am On Aug 11, 2023 |
ChristoBam: Rashford isn't a Striker. Hojlund is a 20 years old young striker moving from Italy. Might take a while to adjust. Will even be excited if he scores 15 this first season. And Martial? Are you joking?
Do you want to compete for the league or not?
We're competing against a treble winning side. Against a better Arsenal with a very established style of play that just strengthened massively. Against a Chelsea that's massively invested in the team and now has Pochetino and can totally focus on the league. And then there's Liverpool.
But nah, let's go into the season with only a 20 years old yougster as the only addition up front from last season. Let's see how far we'll go. I'm not sure the manager has an open cheque to spend. I hope he does though. This same Chelsea you're mentioning ETH gave Poch 60m for a player he does not want and no bidding war. We have to start selling players for reasonable amounts |

TrebleChamp: Our midfield is still very poor going into the new season, no CM and Casemiro is one bad tackle away from being shown a red card. Amrabat that is relatively cheap we are not looking at, Mainoo looks like the real deal but knowing Ten Hag he won't be a regular starter. We need a good CM and Amrabat asap.. Eriksen is our only reliable CM today and he's not that reliable. I don't know how this is supposed to work out |

Look at Hannibal Mejbri now. If he was as talent as say Musiala at 19, he for dey see shirt shmall shmall. For things to change, the club need to restructure the youth teams. We need to recruit better, play better and win more at the youth level. |

Leyqute: I don’t think many people realize what it means to play CONSISTENT first team football. None of our yoot players have that ability. Even Garnacho, there were games he really dropped the ball even after having decent performances in past games (Leeds comes to mind).
The only area I’ll fault ETH is not giving them cameo appearances even when first team players like Fred and Antony are playing rubbish.
Hoping he fixes that this season, although this also depends on the overall quality of the team. I want to see more of Amad and Mainoo (especially this guy) and Hannibal should get subbed in a few times. Maybe if our senior players are killing the games early enough, we will see more of these young players. Even if they end up being sold, they'll be sold for better fee |

adebayo201: I was expecting this from you and you didn't disappoint.
The options we're talking about is in the midfield. As at last season, there were a couple of chances to introduce these young players and give them some run that will be beneficial to them. I don't even follow the youth team but the way we rate some of those players here makes me think we're better off introducing them to the senior team gradually. I just need a new look in that midfield and the purchase of Mount has not solved that. It will be a mistake to withdraw Bruno from that attacking role to a more reserved midfield role, as well as playing him on the wings. I seriously hope ETH has cured that madness. Kobe looks to have broken out, I hope at least one more youth player follows. ETH won't be able to spend this much every summer |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 8:03am On Aug 06, 2023 |
Leyqute: We can even play a Diamond midfield in tight games. Rashford and Hojlund as CF and Bruno, Mount, Case, and another midfielder in the middle.
I suspect Rashford will play CF for the first month until Hojlund is fit and available. You never know, 49 might lay a claim to that starting XI and force Antony (or even Rashford- hard to take, but quite possible) out of the front 3. He has that mentality and common sense we need in attack.
Eph12 this is one of the Yoots you’ve been clamoring for ETH to play. Garnacho was already a first team player from early/middle last season. I was actually hoping to see more of the midfielders from the youth team some of us were always talking about. Instead of giving minutes to Fred and mctom, the likes of Kobe should get them. Then Pellistri should have been given more minutes. Let's see how this season goes |

obonujoker: Luke Shaw has just 19 assists in 10 years... Is this true? This nonsense they're discussing on twitter. For some reasons, our players don't cross enough. Maybe its for lack of target men or aggressive players in the box. The few times he crossed, we saw how dangerous he can be. Even dead balls, our players in the box can't connect properly. Thank God for Casemiro that came in and tried to change that. |

patrickmuf: Eph.12 and Chritine.C, Hojlund for all his size is average in the air from analysis and clips I have seen...I hope he will improve that aspect of his game. I want to be positive about this particular transfer. We needed a striker and we have gotten (an expensive) one. How ETH intends to use him is up to him. It's in our best interest that this one works out o. We can still do without Mount |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 12:10pm On Jul 31, 2023 |
patrickmuf: My point exactly...
We were very poor in attack last season and our midfield was average for the most part. It is the reason I was not keen on replacing DDG when we have other areas in the team/squad begging for improvements. I watched Rasmus clip on twitter and I liked his pace and aggressiveness. He also wants to play with his team mates. My major concern is Rashford and Antony. Rashford thrives where there is space. If we keep possession, the other team will be forced to stay back and keep it tight. I don't know how Rashford will cope with that, when his default mode is to run and shoot Onana was available, DDG contract expired, it was a good move to go for Onana. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 11:39am On Jul 31, 2023 |
patrickmuf: You guys are over rate this playing out from the back. Do you think teams will be forced to change their pattern of play against us because of Onana alone?
I am more focused on our attack and midfield because I believe they're key to how we will play. I said here last season that some of the assists credited to Man City wingers will pass for a wrong pass here because our forwards would not position themselves well and even if they do, they won't make the effort.
Some of the balls De Gea hoofs and we highlight them as wrong play will be judged differently if we have Ivan Toney as our CF. A better midfield and attack would have seen us perform much better than we did last season than just a better keeper that can play out of the back much better. If we have all the passing from back and possession and our attack is blunt, we will still run into problems. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 10:54am On Jul 31, 2023 |
ChristineC: individual errors. All that's left for the team to do is to be devastating in attack. Even if we don't score, there has to be some panic in their box that will make teams advance cautiously. If we can achieve that, we would have solved our problem to a very large extent. We can't afford to boss a game and the opposition will be most likely to score. We can't go back to the days of LVG |

That's probably why he played his team B in the group stages and failed to qualify for the knockout stages.
