AdisaOwala: While this is rather unfortunate, I think it's still better than giving managers the excuse of "ah, the Glaziers no wan spend money, na why we fail" yes it is |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 3:02pm On Jul 30, 2023 |
For me, the boards fault have always been lack of direction, handing out contracts like father christmas. These two have played a major role in why we have struggled these past years. But when you accuse the board of not spending money, I don't think that's correct. Maybe they can be accused of overspending inappropriately. |

AdisaOwala: For me, I think the major fault with the board is that for whatever reasons, they haven't managed to get it right with the managers they hire.We hope ETH proves to be an exception
In terms of support, it would be hypocritical to say that they haven't done enough.
This is even a board that gives managers 100% free hand to recruit players with virtually zero intervention.
Oh well - it's easier to say "Glazier out" without carefully analysing the situation with available facts I share same sentiment. I think I have mentioned this before. We tend to hire managers without considering style of play or long term. I think its now they're trying to do that after watching city take over the EPL. We have always hired managers with different philosophies. From Moyes to Van Gaal to Mourinho to Ole. |

AdisaOwala: At the start of his tenure, Moyes was practically interested in Fellaini and Baines only - he got the Belgian and Mata (during the January TW) for a combined fee of about 60m - a lot of money as at 2013 before he got booted out after 10months...
The following players were signed during Mourinho's Regime...
1. Romeu Lukaku
2. Eric Bailey
3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
3. Henrik Mikytarian
4. Alexis Sanchez
5. Paul Pogba
6. Victor Lindelof
7. Diego Dalot
8. Fred
9. Nemanja Matic
Total cost of about 370m
The following players were signed during Ole's regime..
1. Bruno Fernandes
2. Edison Cavani
3. Cristiano Ronaldo
4. Aaron Wan Bissaka
5. Jaydon Sancho
6. Dan James
7. Harry Maguire
8. Raphael Varane
9. Amad Diallo
Total cost is about 440m
Man UTD signings under LVG
1. Memphis Depay
2. Anthony Martial
3. Angel Di Maria
4. Marcos Rojo
5. Luke Shaw
6. Morgan Schnerderlin
7. Sergio Romero
8. Victor Valdez
9.Ander Herrera
10. Radamel Falcao
11. Matteo Darmian
12. Bastian Schweinsteiger
Total spend is about 290m
All these players were gotten with the full approval of the respective managers at the helm of affairs..
As stated earlier, there is no perfect system anywhere.
Even the Bayern Munichs, Citys, Real Madrids etc haven't always gotten the exact players they wanted at every point in time.
We can continue to blame the top management all we want but the records are there for all to see... When the players fail to live up to their hype, they blame the board. The board may not be as swift as we like but those guys spend a lot of money. The records are there for everyone to see |

Leyqute: Why did Pep sign Haaland and Graelish for 100m after winning the league? Why didn’t he use his old team to achieve the same thing?
Or is Fellaini of the same quality as Haaland or Graelish?
Mind you, Pep didn’t just join City when he made these signings. Pep didn't buy Haaland and Graelish same season. Pep's target was the champions league. Moyes didn't have that target. |

ChristineC: still need quality depth. a good first eleven can only get you so far, especially at the business end of the season.
as it stands, we have Maguire as back up to Varane. Maguire may yet leave. Sancho is looking like the back up CF for next season. Martial will be unavailable as usual. a Greenwood return will shore up the CF and RW quality but we are yet to get a concrete evidence on that. we also hope there's improvement in quality for Shaw's back up options. This is a good start. If the first team are able to do that job properly and the team play as a team with all seriousness, we can comfortably make 3+ changes every match game with those we have on the bench. We will have Sancho, Garnacho, Maguire, Lindelof, Maino, Dalot, Eriksen, Fred, Tom, Malacia, Amad, Pellistri etc. I believe we can manage quite very okay this season. But we really need to start selling |

Leyqute: So, a summer transfer of Marouane Fellaini alone for a new manager means supportive in your own books? The team just won the title. We have seen top clubs buy just 1 or 2 players in a summer transfer window |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 1:57pm On Jul 30, 2023 |
Leyqute: Is this a joke or is “to the best of their abilities” a new euphemism for incompetency?
Cos I don’t see how a lone summer transfer of Marouane Fellaini can be deemed supportive for Nwoyes.
If they were that supportive, why did Mourinho give them a public headbutt because they didn’t get him Magwaya?
I still remember the time people here accused Ole of having no transfer list, (or having Sancho only on his list) because these guys chased him for the whole window “to the best of their abilities” and even failed to get him in the end.
This is the first time in many years that we’ll be getting new players BEFORE the season starts.
If we get Amrabat, this will have been a very good window- just like the last one has been, but much better. The onus will then be on EtH to deliver (because I still don’t get the Mount transfer.
Yes, it’s commendable. But it’s too early to get carried away. It doesn’t mean that we’ve been having sensible TWs the past decade. Neither does it mean that the “top management have always supported our coaches to the best of their abilities”. Until we check total spend, net spend etc and see how high we rank |

Of course there would always be opportunities for improvement but heck - there is no perfect system anywhere.
ETH has his work cut out for him this season - the margins for excuses are getting smaller by the minute and he just has to prove his mettle and show that his appointment was not a mistake. We have had this argument a couple of times. Many will still swear that the club does not buy players but our problem hasn't really been buying of players but getting the right players and keeping them hungry for success |

Only problem was he wasn’t on the ball enough, maybe due to eriksen. In this game,Eriksen was the problem not mount. Not worried at all about mount. He needs to create quality chances to justify his position on the team. What we will not accept is blaming others for his lack of influence. |

Our play was disjointed and tardy. I want to put it down to a lack of fitness. Or maybe ETH was gunning for something else. Or the Nainoo injury. If our play was that disjointed, then RM was worse. For most part of the game, they depended on their pacy attack because they couldn't keep the ball. |

We were competitive and created chances, had more possession including the first half. It wasn’t like if Madrid completely dominated us or something and the first goal was offside. And overall it’s a preseason game. The team really played above expectations for me. |

ChristoBam: The match was what I was hoping a friendly with a top side like that would look like. We didn't have a striker and it was obvious Bruno was played out of position and it was obvious I hate the type of friendlies you'll play against top sides with these obvious deficiencies and still win convincingly like against Arsenal.
Let season start now, make we go Emirates, you'll meet a totally different thing. Maybe it's stubbornness or lack of options because I don't know why a coach will continue to do the same thing over and over with no result. Which match has Bruno ever shone from the wings? I don't understand. I hope the loss will push the manager to intensify search for more key players in the team. |
