So why is Sambo walking a free man? Why did sahareporters miss such a name that was conspicuously displayed?
The ridiculousness of the claim is so funny. Very soon they will see Jonathan's name printed there undecided

EFCC should man up and name the owner of the money. Eod.

they have failed as those people supporting the two parties brain had failed
Exactly.
Majority of those in APC were previously in PDP and vice versa, yet people are here taking sides. This country, smh.

sorry 42 days. My mistake. means the average cost per person must have been very high. About 2,800 per person. The first class cabins and the one carrying foreigners must have made it high
Okay I get, I was just wondering.

What you're seeing is just a tip of the iceberg. Poverty rate is so high. But I disagree with you on your last point. Weddings in the North are not as elaborate as you think, atleast when compared with the south.
That's really sad.

Re: the last point, leaders in both south and north are guilty of siphoning public funds for personal use but I'm comparing the elaborate weddings of the North vis-a-vis their poverty levels.
CultureRe: Nigerians Are Hungry Because They Are Lazy – Sultan by ephi123(f): 9:17am On Apr 17, 2017
freeze001:
It is that small, subsistence agriculture for immediate family that breeds poverty. Is food the only requirement for survival? Will people not progress beyond food for the stomach? Even for d food can one grow everything? Will u not buy others like fish, meat, oil etc? Will they not wear clothes, buy electronics, raise children et al?

The Sultan's reasoning and yours are myopic. Basic agriculture gets one nowhere in the long run, it is the commercial industrialization that makes it viable and rakes in the income. That is where the government must come in and see to it that agriculture becomes viable at the highest possible level. Herdsmen remain backward in their nomadic style and continue causing havoc n mayhem yet we're nowhere near the top exporters of beef n milk. We even import those items!
Very intelligent response. Well said.

I agree.

Looking at that last picture, I just embarassed embarassed Northern leaders have not taken care of their people at all and yet will be having elaborate weddings after sending all their kids to school in overseas universities.

Oga, they didn't dash the companies the money. FG paid for the transport and the companies won't charge passengers again. Now let's assume the average cost is 1500 per passenger (remember some buses were for foreigners and some for first class). They lifted about 700 passengers a day and airport was closed for 72 days. 1500×700×72 is already about 75m ( the average cost must have been higher). So the cost isn't as ridiculous as it seems. Also, SR comparing the cost of this rehabilitation to the cost budgeted by the last administration for a new runway is sensational journalism
How does 6 weeks translate to 72 days?

The discovered funds, was it Buhari that stashed them away?

Why do you lots derive pleasure in defending evil?

May the good LORD strengthen this administration to recover all looted funds and bring the wicked culprits to justice.
Please just hold it.

Is my comment relating to the stashed funds or to Buhari spending 2 months in a foreign hospital while the average Nigerian cannot get access to quality healthcare. If you can't see what's wrong with that, I can't help you, sorry.

Aren't you tired of sounding like a broken record? I know it's extremely difficult to get over the trouncing of your hero in 2015, but as @greenpasture educated you, politics is not a zero sum game.

By all means, do criticize objectively, and if you do not feel the need to acknowledge a good deed, no one's forcing you. The problem is, if that long-expired runway had caused a fatal mishap, you would have been one of the first to tell us how this administration is the most despicable thing since Satan.
Please go and take a seat. No one asked for your opinion on my comment.

Tell me how the north is driving Nigeria back.
I will refer you to the comment below, which is only just scratching the surface of the issue.

Sllime:
The person above me said it all, but this caught my attention

“We are in denial. The north-west and the north-east, demographically, constitute the bulk of Nigeria’s population, but look at human development indices, look at the number of children out of school, look at adult literacy, look at maternal mortality, look at infant mortality, look at girl-child completion rate, look at income per capita… The north-east and the north-west Nigeria are among the poorest parts of the world,”

Atleast both parties agreed on this. Nothern youths forget religion and tribalism. Forget Jonathan and Buhari. Atleast your states do get Federal govt allocations. Hold your immediate leaders accountable.

Blood on the hands of this government. Blood on their hands.

They can only try, it's dead on arrival.

If only the North can stand on its own, they can then be ruled backward to the 10th century sef if they choose, rather than try to drag the whole country into backwardness with them.

You are probably right but as Lao Tzu put it
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one single step"
If i have learned one thing in life it is to be for things rather than to be against things. If we focus on approval for clearly stated reasons, we might channel Pavlov and get our leadership to get the adulation they so clearly crave by doing the right things. After all 50 years of wars, protest and strikes have hardly fared better.

I find it interesting though, as a member of the independence generation that the narrow mindedness and party spirit ( and here i am not speaking of you or any of the other commentators) we had in our day, is being so accurately mirrored on nairaland by a generation that strenously disavows the ones that came before it. Especially at a time that globally, millenial and Gen Z'ers are creating and reinforcing the collaborative and sharing economy.

Its not the differences mind, just what seems to lie below the surface. Ah well.
That may be your approach, but it's not mine. I stand against anything I consider unpalatable.

Re: adulation for leaders, unfortunately that won't work in Nigeria because leaders are surrounded by praise singers.

TravelRe: Old Vs New Abuja Airport Runway (Photos) by ephi123(f): 5:49pm On Apr 16, 2017
When they have no tangible figures or facts to respond with, they resort to calling others wailers.

Doesn't change the fact that this government as at this point in time is a class act FAILURE.

Nigeria refuses to be put in the same state of backwardness the North is. We refuse to. Other countries are moving forward, why should we remain in a dead state? Thanks to archaic people the likes of who claim meningitis outbreak was a result of fornication, in the 21st century. Smh.

that's sad, I was really expecting something different when I opened the thread but was actually surprised with the kind of comments, hailing those corrupt minds who call themselves leaders and and shouting for wailers to come like fixing an airport runway is some kind of a big deal.... undecided
I really wonder oh.
That's the current unfortunate state of affairs in Nigeria. Things are so bad that the tiniest thing is "cause for rejoicing". Ridiculousness of the highest level.

Pass through our international airports and you will literally bend your head in shame when you see their state compared to what obtains elsewhere. We should be talking about taking things to the next level, people are here praising a runway repair. Chai.

Because we've set abysmal low levels of expectation. That is the reason.

Bollinger:
Hence why i said a "healthy"normal person. Or didn't you read my post before commenting? If one should extrapolate it, it means since Nigerians are not mentally and socially healthy, things like the renovation of a runway, (I can believe i am saying this) will be astounding to them. Smh.
In 2017 when we should be talking about automating our transport systems, we don't even have a basic NationalRail website for booking train tickets online, not to mention contactless payments on trains and buses. Our airports cannot stand next to any 21st century airport across the world in terms of quality, services or infrastructure. These are things that we should be exploring - moving to the next level.

Instead my fellow Nigerians are throwing a party because a runway is being renovated. My oh my, what a country.

This is why we need go-getters and forward thinkers at the helms of affairs, not antiquated people with antiquated mindsets.
