greenpasture: Iam not sure that anyone is jubilating over the fixing of a runway. What they are probably happy about is that the government has kept to its delivery time on the project. If you recall airlines local and international threatened to boycott the airport but the government stood its ground and delivered on the project.
Desiring good governance is a two way street involving criticism and praise. The fact that op has placed this piece does not show an abandonment of rationality. He may choose to criticise government next week. It is important to have a sense of perspective. Government isnt a zero sum game with losers and winners. Its nuanced because even if you didnt vote for a party you still need them to do well. Thats what civil society does.
Once the next election comes up you can review their progress or otherwise and decide who to vote for.
No one was born with a party card in their hand. My comment was made based on my observation of people praising the government for fixing the runway, which is quite ridiculous because that is what they were voted in to do in the first place - establish and maintain basic infrastructure, amongst other tasks. Why should that be something to be jubilant about? Especially considering how poor this government has performed overall. That is how mediocrity starts, when leaders are being celebrated for doing basic stuff. We are very far from where we should be at this point in time, relative to other countries. |

cytell56: People and mediocrity, was the old one always like that when it was built. What shame are you celebrating. No wonder a local government chairman in Lagos will build a 50meter road and organise a world press conference. Is it not the normal thing he pledged by competing for an election? This APC government self, nah Shame be their second name, no be Change!!! |

Yes, he's accomplished 0.001% of his manifesto in a period of 2 years, we eagerly await the remaining 99.99%
Jokers. Let's keep applauding basic stuff, in 2017 runway repairs is what people are jubilating over. The dearth of tangible achievements in this administration is the "causer", I totally get it. |

Sllime: The person above me said it all, but this caught my attention
“We are in denial. The north-west and the north-east, demographically, constitute the bulk of Nigeria’s population, but look at human development indices, look at the number of children out of school, look at adult literacy, look at maternal mortality, look at infant mortality, look at girl-child completion rate, look at income per capita… The north-east and the north-west Nigeria are among the poorest parts of the world,”
Atleast both parties agreed on this. Nothern youths forget religion and tribalism. Forget Jonathan and Buhari. Atleast your states do get Federal govt allocations. Hold your immediate leaders accountable. |

emmasege: Yes, birth control with stringent rules on maximum number of children per couple. Every time I see those children begging on the streets of Lagos, I just wonder where is their family? And if it's this endemic in Lagos, I can't imagine what it's like in the northern cities. The North REALLY needs to move forward, this is 2017! |

All I know is that the North needs to move forward and start making significant contributions to the country. We don't want parasites that will keep pulling the nation back. Education should be made mandatory, followed by birth control. |

Lescalier: This Ikoyi orphaned money story was just a plot to remove our attention from the fact that the president couldn't make it to FEC meeting on Wednesday, same day the story came up.
Since Wednesday when we noticed the presidents absence, the only other time we have seen him again is when he went for Jumat.
I forsee the president being among the first 10 people to use the new abuja runway, when it opens on the 19th. |

Seriously we need to be afraid pf tomorrow because there is a plan to deceive the populace with monetary reward to keep them celebrating this inept government Actually they can't succeed with that, the hardship Nigerians are facing right now supersedes any nonsense propaganda. If Buhari was governing well, he would be praised, he is not so why should people keep quiet? They have so failed already. |

AngelicBeing: Dont get me wrong, we have so many Nigerians doing the country proud in the diaspora but these few egg heads has made other Nigerians laughing stock abroad, we cant deny our country of birth & heritage but it is painful to suffer for what other criminals have done in the name of hustling and making quick money, the Nigerian passport is a big liability, those who are frequent travelers will understand what l am talking about Yep, very true. Unfortunately, those impressions that people form don't go away so easily, so basically every Nigerian is automatically suspect which is a real shame. We can only try to do our part I guess, but yes this kind of thing doesn't help at all. |
