sarrki: what is bad to queue to buy gas ?
May it's cheaper and safe to buy from that outlet
We queue in banks to collect our money we saved
We queue in banks to safe money
Next please As for you, it is clear you have no shame at all. NO SHAME. On top of all the nonsense blunders you type each day ( safe money indeed), you refuse to apply reason. |

Sibrah: You don't have to spill trash always. The cos of gas scarcity is from the transportation process. For example Lagos port is conjested. Now it's transportation process we should blame. Like the port only just started getting congested in the last 2 years ba? |

greenpasture: You make a very good point. But does PMB have a big role in domestic policy - economy? He has ceded that to the office of the Vice President. Security, corruption yes. I know for sure that the VP's office handles the economy and that the staff can pretty much get along with it. There is a small group of people ( who insert themselves into government to create/defend their interests) who hobble the VP's office. Hopefully their influence will be curtailed
What do you think about my tongue in cheek comment regarding the role of the citizen in boosting th domestic economy Well, I think as the president the buck lies with him. If the office of the Vice President is not handling the economy the right way, then he should intervene (I actually didn't realize that is ceded to the office of the VP). Besides the President is responsible for appointing the CBN governor whose policies will have an impact on the economy, so again, it lies with him. Haha! that your suggestion is going to be a hard one for several people, lol. Nigerians are addicted to anything foreign (unfortunately). |
Politics › Re: Photos Of President Buhari At Africa-france Summit In Mali by ephi123(f): 8:36pm On Jan 14, 2017 |
greenpasture: A lot of comments here don't appreciate that international politics isn't about emotion it's about self interest.
Since independence France has been a two faced friend to Nigeria. On one hand it has huge economic interests in Nigeria and on the other hand it has huge political interests in the francophone countries. If the economic interest is clear to everyone, the political might not be. So let me explain. France owes it's global position to its overseas colonies. It has never won a war and does not have any company in the global top 20. It does have good food and Paris is beautiful in parts
De Gaulle's dream of French empire lives on in these colonies and the French take them seriously. As their super central bank, France also makes a lot of money from them. It is NOT in Frances interest to have Nigeria become a west africa economic powerhouse exporting goods and services to these former french colonies. It IS in Frances interest to use these former colonies to dump it's products in nigeria using smuggling roots.
So what should Nigeria do? If we take the comments here as an example, Nigeria should shun these type of meetings and put its nose in the air. But is this strategically wise. Is it not better to engage the "hostiles" and neutralize their risk through mutual self interest. Nigeria cannot attack a francophone nation and trigger Frances defence pact with that country. But it can engage, build useful and deep relationships that wil slowly help it advance it's own economic interests. The adage " keep your enemies close" is a truism in international politics.
It is good for PMB and indeed any other Nigerian HoS to attend meetings like this. Afterall we are still in th Commonwealth and extract as many gains for its citizens while slowly building up its export capabilities.
For those who don't want us to play second fiddle to these type of countries - heck we should burn their letters of invitation, I have some advice. Start consuming and using only made in Nigerian products. For the women ignore La Coste, Hermes, Channel and LVMH and patronize Nigerian designers, bag and shoe makers and even perfumers. We have tons of people in Aba Lagos and PH who will replace these products. If we do these things our President will be able to stop attending these meetings. Until then let him attend and hold your peace and carry your Hermes bag proudly. You are right. International relations demands interacting with other nations. The problem with PMB is he has over done it. Even with meetings that were not completely relevant, or meetings where he could have delegated, he has chosen to go in person. Coupled with his non-performance at home, I can understand why people are infuriated every time they see his pics on these trips. |

BTW, the FG needs to do something quick about this gas and kerosene scarcity, if care isn't not taken, charcoal too will soon be scarce. Opportunities indeed. HiDee2: Much as I love Ymodulus' bravery and business dexterity, from his explanations, some of these businesses have proven to be completely illegal! . If all the things he wrote were true, then, filing false information repeatedly to authorities and paying/bribing people (including bank and government officials) to help you beat the law in order for you to make easy profit at the expense of the country is nothing to be happy about. With these actions of his, he is part of the reason the Naira plummeted drastically against the Dollar, and part of the reasons for the ongoing general suffering in the country. . I like him, but these excesses are a no-no for me. I don't know about you though... And I hope he stops giving details of the shady businesses, lest some people use it against him later on or worst still, more young people are tempted to go that path, rather than more honourable business options... I am hoping I am wrong on this! . For his clean and brave business initiatives, he gets full kudos from me. But for the shady businesses amongst those he listed, he gets no praise. If it can be proven he broke the law, not the least willfully, the law should take its course! . We shouldn't celebrate what is wrong, no matter who does or benefit from it! His unethical actions. whether we like it or not, are part of the recession and the current stark economic realities in Nigeria. And by the way, he just made business harder for people who might genuinely want to do business for adding value sake and making honest profits. How do you expect those Chinese to view other innocent Nigerians? This is terrible. And to see some young people hail and covet such dubious skills and unpatriotic tendencies as his, breaks the heart! Food for thought. Well said. |
Business › Re: Brief Summary Of All My Business Encounter In 2016. - I Take A Bow by ephi123(f): 10:30am On Jan 12, 2017 |
HiDee2: If there are legit business ideas that are also sustainable in the short and medium terms, please, I wouldn't mind. But as for willfully bribing officials and presenting falsified records again and again, I wouldn't do that. I won't be part of the problems we are trying to solve as a country! And one more thing, I strongly believe that young people can make a difference, that they can make good money from clean and brilliant business ideas. What is needed are a solid/well researched idea, good planning, a good team, and sometimes, a good coincidence. We can.
Abeg, I don't mind such ideas. This is the year to take big, informed risks. We could talk more offline. Thanks. Best comment I've read on this thread. |

FlyboyZee: You said it all with this. People come and go, but institutions remain. Those attributes you mentioned are the bedrock for any solid institution. That's why I ain't impressed with the so-called on-going anti-corruption war. It's just all about impressing the so-called strong man in Aso Rock and not really hitting on corruption itself. If that man leaves, this so-called anti-corruption fight goes with him and then its back to square one again. Kinda reminds me of the Cobweb Theory in Economics... Word! |
