It's now Chinese vs Arabic. No more German or Hindi et al. Arabic as a language is widely spoken in more countries. By your logic, other countries importing from China should also input Chinese in their curriculum.

Arabic is taght in western schools , same can't be said about Chinese
I can't stand lies

Also FYI - Arabic is widely spoken in ISLAMIC countries. Don't use a blanket of "more countries" to cover it!

Arabic is number 5 because it is spoken by ALL Islamic countries in the Arab league. Over 20 of them. Duh.

The Arab state currently consists of the 22 Arabic-speaking countries of the Arab League.

The compulsory study of Islamic Studies in our secondary schools is a step towards islamizing our great Nation Nigeria and would only breed more and more terrorists in the making.

No way! God will scatter all their evil plans against this nation.
The Bible says surely they will gather but He "Olowogbogboro"will scatter them all.
In a country still battling Boko haram as we speak, this should be the least of their priorities. Indoctrination in multiple shades. Smh.

Where in my comment did i say there isn't any economic importance. You guys are just this simply cos it s Arabic, do you know how much imports Nigeria make from UAE? You are calling someone a dogmatic person yet you aren't countering him with a superior argument. Morso, IRK isn't in the curriculum. Learn to read and comprehend .
If you can't relate your comment about business ties to economic benefit, then the situation is even worse than I thought.

This is my last reply to you. It's your headache if you want to argue it all day. #WeSayNoToCompulsoryIRK. End of story.

Every country imports from China. Didnt Lagos sign a deal with UAE sometime ago? I'm wondering why you said no word about Spanish language.
But you were earlier claiming there was no economic benefit na, now it is "every country imports from China" undecided

I am not going to waste my time this afternoon doing back and forth with a dogmatic person. The point has been made, which is that IRK has no place in being a compulsory option in this country's educational system. Eod.

You guys are just pained dudes. What business ties do you have with them that correlates with their languages?

German
Spanish
Chinese
There are many German companies in Nigeria particularly in the construction sector. There is an existing partnership already.

Nigerians import a large chunk of items from China, not to mention the loans they are constantly begging China for.

What do we import or benefit from Saudi Arabia or any Arabic country (besides dates in reference to an earlier thread today).

I read the article and the article just shows the position of CAN. I don't have to follow CAN because I have the curriculum in my office and I know what it says which is quite different from the wrong information that CAN is circulating. I am a teacher, a school proprietor. Except for if anyone misinterprets the curriculum, neither French nor Arabic is compulsory. The curriculum says you must study one local language and one international language. You have fulfilled the requirement if you study English so no one will force yo to study Arabic. Having said that, my question is, "What is wrong in studying Arabic Language?" Oh! Because the Koran is written in Arabic? So If I can speak Arabic, it automatically makes me a moslem? I pity people who reason like this.
No one is asking you to follow CAN. It's a free world.

Because we don't need here. Arabic can be optional if you are insisting on it but not compulsory. Making compulsory is the bone of contention. Why I don't opt in for Arabic is because we stand not to gain economic benefit from it compare to other languages .It's economic aspect that Fashola saw were wanted Chinese languages taught in public secondary schools in Lagos
Exactly. What economic impact does Arabic have for a student who has no intention of migrating to Saudi Arabia in the future, I can see someone pointing this out as a "potential benefit"?

The Chinese are a world power right now, so it makes economic sense introducing it to the schools, which is already happening in many countries.

Nobody is being forced to study Arabic in Nigeria. It is optional. It is an elective just like French. Why is CAN objecting to those interested in studying Arabic from doing so? Why are they deliberately misinforming the public by equating Arabic Language with Islamic studies when they are two different subjects? By the way, If I was younger than I am now, I would have loved to study the language so I can read the Koran and Hadith in the original language they were written. Maybe then I will be able to get across the message of Christ to my moslem neighbors more effectively. There is nothing wrong in seeking knowledge.
I guess you did not read the article.. else you would have seen that when there are no CRK and French teachers (which occurs a lot since French teachers are also few), then students have no option but to do IRK, which is not right. No student should be made to study such if they don't want to.

Arabic is a language in the same mould as English, French, German, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Ebira, Twi, Efik, and so on. Arabic language is not the same as Islamic Studies. It is not a new subject in the curriculum. It has always been there. It's just more popular in the North than the South. The Christian leaders are just playing on the ignorance and gullibility of the average Southern Christian.
That the Koran was written in Arabic does not make it an Islamic language. Arabic is the language of Arabs. The Bible that many of us are used to is written in English Language. Will it be right for anyone to advocate the scrapping of the study of English Language in Nigeria because it is a Christian Language? Let leaders understand that they are accountable to God and so shun all forms of sensationalism.
Now coming to the new syllabus, it is called Religion and National Values. The syllabus is designed in such a way that it fuses Religious studies with Social Studies, Civics and Security Education into one. The syllabus has a Christian Religious Studies option for Christians and Islamic Religious Studies option for Moslems. So I find it hard to comprehend the objection of the Christian leaders.
Now before you crucify me, let me clearly say that I am a Christian, of the Pentecostal fold. I own and run a school so I am very conversant with the syllabus and I do not see anything wrong with it.
I know you are trying to be politically correct here, but it so happens that the countries that have Arabic as their lingua franca are all Islamic countries. You cannot say the same for English, French or German. It certainly cannot be considered a religion-neutral language.

Meanwhile the Chibok girls who were supposedly writing WAEC had to be rehabilitated to learn English the lingua franca of the country and the language they would have used to write their exams.

Rather than focusing on the quality of education and also getting more children into schools and educating the general populace to a standard where they can compete with the rest of the world, introducing Arabic is their main headache right now huh

the truth is that CRK is compulsory but the school won't employ them because the majority is IRK, the minority won't want to study IRK, therefore that's where the hatred comes in.

Whats being described here is absolutely grave and immoral injustice!! Making IRK the only compulsory alternative to french and not including CRK is just plain evil and must be resisted!

I see saudi arabia all over this!. It should not go away until rectified!!
But how can IRK be an alternative to French, as in, what is the link between the two? French is a recognized international language used in many countries, the alternative should be a similar language.

If IRK is going to be made compulsory, then CRK must be too. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
