Man, i weak o! 'Nigerian Sounding Accent'? I had better change mine quickly. |
Ok ok ok, i give up, ![]() |
@Huxley and Jagunlabi E be like say una wan fight this man sha! Make una sofry sofry o. However, i understand that there are so many people that will follow these teachings VERBATIM and will not study by themselves to make sure the words are true. I believe that this problem also has a cultural dimension. That belief that either states that 'The elders are always right' and that 'the words of those in authority is final'. |
I understand that we all live [or are supposed to live] in a free world - where anyone can believe what he wants to believe and believe in who he wants to believe in without feeling fearful about it. As far as i am concerned, i think that whatever Pastor Adeboye says in his devotional is left to the redeemed people and christians in general to question - not necessarily openly and in the public sphere, but in their closets, between themselves and God. It is the same way we should not take everything our lecturers and teachers say, without going back to read our textbooks to verify their teachings. I have very often found out that my lecturers or teachers have either passed across the wrong message, or failed to interprete the teachings in the proper way. Being human, Adeboye MAY have done the same. To be honest and fair, I READ THE SAME PASSAGE DEVOTIONAL THIS MORNING and questioned the writings in my heart. I read where it said that Believers should not do business with unbelievers. I felt that this was a bit tough in the sense that many, if not millions of Christians worldwide are employed by unbelievers or are indirectly working for them. How then will we justify this saying that we should not do business with them? I also read that believers should not go to the parties of unbelievers. What came to my mind immediately was that Jesus, when he was alive, went to the celebrations of people who were not considered to be believers and took that as a chance to preach. All that said, my questioning his writings is just a way for me to develop myself and strenghthen my belief in God and not to curse or pour expletives on him or his teachings. |
otele::oMy guy, i weak for you o! How possible is this? ![]() |
Ijawman: *jona: Funny thing is that whether they are yoruba or not, those non-nigerians who witnessed the fight will not know who is yoruba or ibo or hausa or ijaw or itsekiri. They will just say, 'These bloody NIGERIANS are disturbing the peace again'. To Ghanaians or Cameroonians, we are all NIGERIANS. They dont care about our local ethnic politics ![]() |
bsanya:Dr Akunyili is no longer the saviour people thought she was while she was in NAFDAC. Like agabaI23 has stated, her new assignment is making people think twice about her. This rebranding thing has raised so much controversy that even people in government are not sure of what she is doing talkless of we the ordinary people. She is slowly sliding down the ratings ladder and very soon, she may find herself at the bottom. Shebi when she took the job (even before she started the rebranding thing) people said that her image was going to be tarnished - because being the mouthpiece (information minister) of Nigeria, means that you would have to tell lies, deceive people and dine with thieves and criminals, all in the name of doing your job. |
huxley:Dont know - will leave that to the 'pastors' on nairaland to enlighten us. I just thought that what the man has written is no reason for us to vex for him. His followers are happy with what they are reading, since i assume that they are the ones that read his daily devotional! |
Dude, calm down and take it easy. Relax. Why you dey vex for the man? There must be some DEEPER lessons to be learned from this and not what you read at face value! |

O boy, na difficult question be dis o. It is like asking which comes first, the egg or the chicken! Are all of us responsible for the present state of Nigeria? Or is it only the few people who have been our leaders since independence |
jumobi1:Defn. of Politician 1. A leader engaged in civil administration 2. A person active in party politics 3. A schemer who tries to gain advantage in an organization in sly or underhanded ways I think Iweala and Ribadu fall into defn. number 1. ALL OTHER POLITICIANS WE HAVE DISCUSSED FALL INTO 2 AND 3 . They are all criminals because they have gotten to their positions via sly or underhanded ways |
moneygurl:Dont know about all those expensive property they were referring to in the article, but it is rumoured that it is the SGBN money he used to finance his campaign to become a governor. |
Kobojunkie:Exactly what they did in places like Uganda, Kenya and other Southern African countries. Is that not what made Idi Amin give them 24hrs to leave Uganda? They (Indians) controlled the whole economy - from Banking, to Agriculture to commerce. But wait. . . i thot Dangote was into rice production. How come this Veetee rice thing is taking off? Abi Dangote is no longer interested? |
bilms:Bukola Saraki ke |
mr.official: . Are you trying to say that there is no hope for the honest people? |
tpia:Not sure about the 'other' NTA's, but i know that NTA Ibadan started in 1959. Was the first in Nigeria, i think! |
OMG, you guys are taking me down memory lane - Joe 90, some mothers do have em, mind your language etc. Yes, i remember famous five, voltron, superted and a few other programs. Wow, those were the days |
mr.official:My broda, i know say JAMB na obstacle o, but that does not mean that we should cheat na. Me sef, i did JAMB two times and know guys who did it up to 5 times. For we country, everything na obstacle but do we want to forgive those politicians that have been stealing our money? Na from cheating in exams wayo dey start o! |
For now, i think i can safely nominate Fashola and Oshiomhole. Lets wait until the end of their tenures to finally confirm that they are really Politicians we can be proud of. This is because our country has a way of rubbishing people who try to do their best. When they finally leave office, people start bringing out their skeletons ![]() I may be brave enough also, to include Utomi. |
lucabrasi:I actually thought about this but forgot to ask the poster to clarrify. I only assumed that he is probably buying and selling cars (which i know those customs officers capitalize on) and has to settle the guys in uniform along the road. Once those guys see a new car, with new number plates, they always stop you especially at Ogerre toll gate (i think thats the name of that place) I had a colleague who used to do the same and he complained about the same thing until he started paying uniformed guys to follow him to Ibadan, Ife and parts of the North via the lagos-ibadan express. That is why i jumped to that conclusion OYA POSTER, EXPLAIN YOURSELF PROPERLY O! Are you carrying anything or selling anything? Otherwise, i dont see why they should stop you. I worked in Lagos for many years and my family was in Ibadan. I used to ply that road almost every weekend and nobody stopped me |
Shebi when Jesus dey move from place to place, people 'thronged' after him? In a way, i can understand all these people moving along with pastors in convoys. Firstly, people who just want to 'attach' to the pastor. You know those kind of people na! Wherever pastor wants to go, they want to follow him Secondly, people looking for cheap miracles. In our country where everyone is looking for a quick fix, once they hear that Daddy GO or Bishop Oyedepo are going somewhere, they must follow him to the place also. Then of course, there are the IDIOT PASTORS whose ego's are too big for themselves. They just want to feel important hence, they hire armed security men and make sure that their ushers, church choir, deacons, assistant pastors, protocol and all members of their church follow them to their destinations. Since all these people cant fit into the pastors car, he ensures that they all come in as many other cars as possible. All na flamboyance and deceit, which are very un neccessary. |
@Poster Kindly define what type of music you are talking about. Is it rap, jazz, r&b, pop etc? I can see how listening to jazz: of which a lot of instrumentals are involved will constitute a hindrance to anyone's christian life. I also suppose listening to orchestra's play their tunes will corrupt my mind? Or maybe childrens nursery rhymes - which are not necessarily christian songs - would also lead children astray? |
My guy, unless you wan drive inside bush - and that is not safe either - i dont know of any other way. I would have said that you get some 'escorts' (Army, police, customs, immigrations officers) to follow you, but you would still have to pay them about the same 10 - 15k per trip ![]() |
Someone should please enlighten me. When did Achebe and Emeagwali become 'politicians'? I thot we are supposed to be talking about politicians to be proud of? |

Bryan Fury:Correct guy, na you biko! Did you learn this from your dad, uncles? Are they part of the people leading us astray in this country and embezzling our money? I can only assume that you are learning this from them. Dont worry, you will pass the exam and enter the university without any hassles. Mind you, you will have to pay your way through the university too, so be prepared to spend a lot of money to pass your exams. After that, one of your influential relatives, who you are learning these evil ways from, will help you get a job in a top company and from there, you can continue embezzling more money. Maybe you can even think of going into politics cos there is no other 'river' from which so much money can be chopped. BETTER CHANGE YOUR WAYS NOW BEFORE I CALL A CURSE UPON YOU O! Bloody cheat! |
blacksta:Oh ok. That explains it! Lol |
@*comfort No be fight o, but i have noticed something. Most of your posts are about crimes and/or bad things that have or are happening. I just scrolled down the list of topics and saw this!!!! Or, is it that only negative things are happening in our country? |
ogbronx:I love this answer. My best so far. Anyone can stay anywhere in the world as long as you can make a success of it. The best and most prosperous countries in the world have their citizens living outside those countries for reasons best known to them. There are Americans in Iraq, Pakistan etc, who are not soldiers or in those countries on peace keeping missions. They are making money, going about their businesses - either working for international organizations or sometimes, for themselves. What are their reasons for NOT wanting to stay in America (since we all think it is such a 'heavenly place'?) To be fair, there are reasons for Nigerians to stay in Nigeria - it is our home, we should help rebuild the country in whatever way we can, there are so many entrepreneurship/innovative opportunities, we can do and undo (and we cant be deported ) etcThere are reasons for us NOT to stay in Nigeria also - if we get better opportunities outside (good education, health, jobs), we want to live with some peace of mind (for those of us who dont have the means to get it in Nigeria), we are honest and simple people (to live comfortably in Naija, you have to hustle to make that money, whether you like it or not). Or maybe you just want to turn on your tap and water flows, iron your clothes and there is electricity, travel from one city to the next and there are clean trains, buses, good roads; you enter a shop and the attendants offer very good customer service and treat you like a customer, you sleep and live your windows open for the breeze to come in (no burglary proof everywhere like you are in prison etc. |
lucabrasi:I agree with Lucabrasi! Using PAYG sims to commit crime here is 'minimal' when compared to Naija. As a student, i worked for one of the high street telecom retailers and you will be surprised that those sim's that are not registered to someone are very few when compared to those that are registered. If you happen to have one of those sims that is not registered, once you place a call to the customer care number with any queries or additions concerning that particular sim, your details will definately be asked for - and i can say that in the UK, it is almost a must for most people to call the customer care regarding one Value Added Service (MMS, Picture messaging, etc) or the other. Its about time NCC does this and i like the idea. Another development i would welcome from NCC is the ability to track the location of phones that are in operation. With this, they would be able to 'listen' in and apprehend particular suspects who have committed one crime or the other. |
