You could try MTN Foundation, GE Healthcare, or some of the oil and gas companies that have operations in community healthcare. Otherwise, look for WHO or UNDP or other international donor agencies that fund such initiatives in Nigeria.

Otherwise, like someone said, start something on your own (probably an NGO) and get funding from either of these bodies

norrisman:
I hate m.u.m.u topics like this. The thing that gets to me the most is when people complain about things like tax, MOT and council tax. Did you not know the rate of tax before you took the job? You do not want to have an MOT? Buy a brand new car every 3 years and give up on that banger you are driving. If an illiterate complained about MOT, I may understand because he probably doesnt understand what it is for but coming from a Linux engineer, I am well disappointed. You dont want to pay council tax but you want your trash to be picked every week, grafitti removed, potholes fixed, parks kept clean e.t.c. where do you expect the council to get money to provide these services? From yahoo yahoo.

You have 2 children and I can bet you did not pay a dime when they were born. Where do you think the NHS gets its funding from? Yahoo yahoo?  I bought my first flat 6 years ago and I have only lived here 9 years and if you care to know I was earning only £18,000 back then. You earn over £50,000 and you are complaining. Have you ever heard of cut your coat according to your size. Tell your wife to get off her sorry behind and help supplement the family income. I earn susbstantially less than £50,000 and I am married to a woman who works as well and we will not swap the UK for anywhere else.

I will not go into details but due to sensible management (we do splash out too afterall life is for the living i.e. designer clothes and 2 holidays a year) we have good equity in 2 properties, 1 of which pays for itself and gives a profit of £250 monthly, Substantial savings, land in Nigeria and 2 cars one of which doesnt require the MOT you dread so much. So next time before you post m.u.m.u topics like this, engage your brain and count your blessings.

I can only guess you did not see the program on the BBC a few weeks ago which showed how migrants try to get into this country through the desert. Watch it on iPlayer so you can have a reality check. Bless
Dude, thumbs up. I like.

However, i understand what the original poster is saying. My wife and i are both professionals earning about £40k plus a year and yes we NOW feel the strain on our pockets compared to what was obtainable before. I cant imagine what would have obtained if i was the only one working. The cost of everything is going up and yet salaries have been frozen (for some people) so i guess that if one person in the family is working, things would be tougher.

But like you have said, putting these into perspectives, we should still appreciate the little things we take for granted like, security, access to healthcare and social amenities etc.

'Demo'cracy: Government of jokers, by jokers and for jokers. . .all na 'demo' ontop nothing. LOL. I have said it time and time again that the 'war' on corruption in this country is an absolute farce. Whenever the government wants to 'demo' that it is serious about fighting corruption, it finds one sorry scapegoat to embarrass publicly and then let him off with a mere slap on the wrist or soft landing - and thereafter everything quietens down until whenever the need arises for another public 'demo'.

The funny thing in all of this is the needless jubilation and mass hysterical  schadenfreude that accompanies each 'demo'; be it Tafa, Alamieyeseigha, Ibori, Igbinedion, Bode George, and now Bankole. The shallow and ignorant masses would celebrate that yet another 'public enemy' has been 'busted'; yet even before their hysteria quietens down, the so-called public enemy is free again and returns to enjoy his fabulous loot ad take his 'rightful' place in the political/social/financial establishment! And yet the rest of us would remain where we are: barely broke or broke 'commoners' who only know how to bark. Seriously, who is the joke on? Who would celebrate motion without movement as 'progress' if not a complete i.d.io.t?

PoliticsRe: Whats The Fate Of Obasanjo Now? by Epiphany(m): 12:01pm On Jun 08, 2011
I dont think we need to worry about OBJs fate. The man is extremely cunning and unpredictable and is likely to pull something out of his hat anytime. Like someone has said, the man has 'seen it all' and has reached the peak of his career in all respects. A General, President, head of international delegations. . . etc. What more can a man do to prove to all that he is not a pushover?

EVEN if he dies now, he has lived the life that millions of people worldwide will not live in two lifetimes

Wait a minute. Why should they not cruise around town with their expensive toys? Have they not worked hard for those toys? As long as they are not like our politicians that steal government money without doing anything, they are allowed to cruise around town with their expensive toys.

Secondly, it is not compulsory to fight for the cause of the Nigerian youth. Cant the youth fight for themselves? Even if the youth cannot fight for themselves, it is not everybody's calling to be a social critic

In all the Ibori trials in London, Uduaghan's name features prominently as an accomplice and accessory to money laundering.
Knowing that the man at the helm of power in Delta State is a crook and has been part of the crew robbing Delta blind for years, I make bold as to say that anyone who voted this man back to power must be a crook or must be willing to abide by crooks.
It matters not whether Urhobos or anyone else has been ruling. Even a dog can rule for all i care as long as he does well by the state. Just get the best man for the job and forget about all these tribal and ethnic rubbish.
I totally agree. In fact, your post carries the day. How did Uduaghan even get ONE (1) VOTE, knowing that he has been implicated in the Ibori case concerning the stealing of money from Delta State? Is it that Deltans are so . . . . (i dont even have the words to use) that they will continue to vote for a crook?

Likewise, i dont give a ra.ts backside who is in Government as long as he/she does the job.

He wont get 14yrs. I have been talking about this issue with a barrister friend on mine in the UK. Ibori is not judged to have killed anyone, so he is likely to get 10ys max, but will serve about 7yrs.

That for me is good enough. he will come out almost 60, stretched and finished, and then deported back to Nigeria to face further charges
. . . hopefully, that is if Nigeria has reached the stage where they are able and willing to bring people to book. But yes, i hope he serves at least 7 - 10 years behind bars.

Haba, how una go dey talk like this? Britiains 'riches' did not start today na. The British people started plundering the world many years ago, by their exploration and travelling the whole world. That is why they were able to colonise many parts of the world and stamp their 'ownership' on those parts, even till today.
Secondly, Britain does have lots and lots of multinationals, some of which have been sold in the last few years. Companies like Shell, BP, BAT, BT, AstraZeneca are scattered around the world, still 'plundering' poor third world countries of their resources. Other companies like the Jagua, Rover, MG, Triumph etc were all renowned british companies which in recent times, have been sold to indians and the chinese. Still some other companies such as BAe are a weapons manufacturing company, selling arms to countries all over the world.
Most of all, like others have already mentioned the British people have (or used to have) KNOWLEDGE. They dont even have to do much, except sit back and collect royalties and 'taxes' from countries all over the world.

Meanwhile, take a look at this link,

My broda, our collective Nigerian psyche has been beaten, bruised and battered by successive govts such that we are critical and suspicious of every thing, good or bad. I am guilty of this too. . . i take everything with a pinch of salt first of all, before sitting to analyse and conclude.

No matter who comes up to run for government, there will always be people that are against them.

Beef has a good point. Is is usual for running mates to take the lead? More importantly can someone who has been and seen himself as the alpha, now submit to being a "vice" Nigerian style? We shall see.
This is a good point and is one that has been on the minds of people for a while. The question is, 'whether Bakare can submit to Buhari by being a vice president, "Nigerian style"'.

I would say that it depends, really. We remember Buhari's first time around where people said that it was actually Idiagbon that was the man really in charge of the government. It may be the same this time around, as we all know that it is not always the man that wears the crown who takes charge of the nation. It is not always the MD or CEO or Chairman of a company who actually runs the company, etc.

For those who are students of the bible, or have been students of the bible, we also remember Joseph who was in the house of potipher. Joseph was second in command, but still 'the man in charge of everything'. He was the one who 'saved' the country from famine, was the one who drew up the laws of the country, etc.

Almost the same thing is said about Daniel. Although he was not even the king, he was considered a very VERY powerful person so much so that when the kind was deceived into throwing Daniel into the Lion's den, he was greatly unhappy about it. It is also the belief of Christians that Daniel was actually 'the man in charge' of Babylon.

We will never really know how the dynamics between Buhari and Bakare will pan out, but lets watch, wait and see.

WHAT IF - God has told Bakare to run because he (Bakare) will end up as the president.

Both may be sworn in and after a few months, Buhari just drops dead. Chikena. Bakare is now president. This is of course, assuming that their combination wins the elections.  grin

This is a very difficult task for me cos when i think of African leaders, i think of brute force, cunning and deceit, knowing that majority of African leaders got to their positions through such means. I cant seem to picture 'Obama, Clinton or Blair' leaders, who have used their charisma, power of speech and awesome relationship skills to win over the people.

@epiphany

very right
My broda, i tire for naija and her politricks o. As a Nigerian and Deltan, i am continually dissapointed at the rate and level of development in the country and state. Successive governments have done next to nothing in the state, considering the amount of money the state 'earns' yearly.

For those arguing that Uduaghan is doing something, i feel that yes, he may be doing something, but NOT ENOUGH OF WHAT IS EXPECTED OF HIM. If it is in his power to tar 20 roads and he tars 5, why should he be praised? If he can build 30 blocks of classrooms and he builds only 15, why should we be happy that he has done something? What happens or happened to all the monies he was supposed to use to complete the other 15 roads or 15 blocks of classrooms? It goes into his pockets or that of his cronies and yet we should praise him?

I am beyond praising any governor anymore. We should stop praising them for doing 40, 50 or even 70% of what they are supposed to do. We should be more like the british - that NAG OVER EVERYTHING and demand for more and more accountability even when everthing still works for them! Living here in the UK, i sometimes dont understand why the citizens are so selfish and ungrateful. They have constant power, their roads are good, infrastructure is nice, education is excellent, healthcare works, systems are in place for progress etc etc and yet, the people are not satisfied. Compare that to Nigeria where nothing works and yet we praise these criminals for doing 'something'. . .

Sorry, i am so upset. I have finished my rant! Let me not continue.
PoliticsRe: Official Thread::: Delta State Election Rerun by Epiphany(m): 1:16pm On Jan 06, 2011
One thing i dont understand is that if Uduaghan was sacked for 'cheating' in the last elections, why is he still contesting? Shouldnt he be BANNED?

In all areas of life, education, business, games etc, if you are caught cheating, you would be suspended for a few years. Why is politics any different?

If Uduaghan wins again, it will be a big shame on our electoral system. SMH
TravelRe: The Uk Is A Trap. Don't Come Here To Study: by Epiphany(m): 2:27pm On Jan 04, 2011
justwise:
I think the point of this thread is to educate those Nigerians who has high expectations of the UK b4 going to the UK to lower their expectation and take more realistical approach. Its more difficult to change your mind after getting to the UK pay so much then realise that all are not as it seems b4 his or her embarked on that journey. The stories of UK you heard 3-4 yrs ago is not the same today. Nobody is discouraging pple from coming to the UK to study, some of us are basically saying: things have changed, look at the situation now.
I think the highlighted part is the summary of all the arguements. No one is discouraging anyone from coming to the UK to study. What a lot of us are trying to say is that in the years past, many people came here to study, with the hopes of either settling here or working for a while before returning to Nigeria. Getting into either of these is now very tough. Even applying to study here is now getting to be quite difficult because, correct me if i am wrong, but the prospective student now has to show proof of ALL of the fees or even pay it all off at once - unlike before when you could get around it. Then, you did not have to pay all your fees at once and you could even finish school without having paid the tuition. Again, like some posters have stated, the govt wants to reduce the number of hours that students can work from 20 to 10. I remember when i was a student, having paid ALL MY FEES IN ONE SWOOP (Tuition - £22,000 and Accomodation - £4000), i had to work for about 18 hours weekly for money for my upkeep. If i had to come here to study under these conditions, i may not have been able to make it. After that, i made up my mind that i had to work here for a while, to 'get back' a bit of the money i spent  on my education - and that is why i am still here!

I am also in the UK. I studied here and am currently working and living here. I share the same sentiments with the poster and WILL NOT ENCOURAGE anyone i know to come here - to work or study. My advice will be to find another country to go to. For now, Canada SEEMS to be a good place to go to. Things are becoming very uncertain and tight here in the UK and because of that, i have set a single goal for myself - as soon as my current contract ends in the next 4 years, I AM OUT OF HERE whether things change or not.

She desperately wants to be loved and cherished but she is not lovable and unfortunately she does not realise that, that is the sad thing.

And the only way she knows how to respond, and applies in responding, to not being shown the love she craves is to be even more belligerent and even less lovable as she sees the lack of love as a trigger.

She is going to struggle in relationships in future except she finds some crazily mellow guy that can take her bullshit and still be showing love.

She is a pretty girl and will not struggle to find a guy but holding to the guy would be the challenge and when she grows older and loses her prettiness, she risk being alone as hardly any man will settle for a woman with that attitude without looks except he is strongly into sadomasochism.

I have an ex-colleague female friend from Zambia that is far more older than me as she is now around 40s, she is very gentle and cool but when I said it, she told me I did not know her when she was young. She basically described this kind of Julie, that is how her marriage with a Nigerian guy broke down in her early 30s after dating since her late teens. Despite only hearing her side of the story, it was obvious she was the problem of the relationship as she admitted she was ridiculously hot-headed despite her still insisting it was 50:50 fault. But I noted she was so bad she could not even put majority blame on the guy as most women will do when you hear only their side of the story.

She is around 40s now and still single and now trying to build relationships as a remarkedly mellow and nice woman. Obviously she meets mainly divorcee guys that are more willing to enjoy their regained freedom than quickly return to jail down an aisle.
Hey brov, is it that you've been hurt real bad before or are you a budding psychologist? grin

With the number of times i fly the London-Lagos route, i have never and can never consider Arik or any other local airline (eg, during the days of Virgin Nigeria and Bellview). Virgin Atlantic is always first on my list, then BA, Lufthansa and then AirFrance.
