PoliticsRe: Quit Pretending, Lets Divide Nigeria, We Aint One: Period! by Epiphany(m): 3:57pm On Dec 12, 2008
Nope! Not possible. I think it would be better to try and make what we have now WORK OUT FOR GOOD.
If you start splitting and dividing states, it will not stop where you think it should stop. Take the easter states and the niger delta you have mentioned. Who says that the Ibos will want to stay with the Itshekiri's, the Urhobos and the Ijaws? These people will also want their own states or 'countries', if you wish. If you include Edo state in this Eastern divide, they will also want their own state. If you send them along with the Yoruba's, they will still want their own state/country.
Same goes for those in the central area you mentioned. The Igala's, Idoma's etc will all want to go it alone also.

One thing i know for sure is that even though the country is in dissaray and shambles, it is our collective diversity that makes us strong. In all the research and studies i have done so far, diversity in the workplace or in the organization is SUPPOSED TO MAKE THAT ORGANIZATION STRONGER. Bringing people from different beliefs, cultures etc together is supposed to strengthen and not weaken. That is what we are supposed to be doing in our situation and that is what countries like America, Canada and the UK are doing right now. They are using the diverse gifts and talents of different people from all over the world to better their countries, while we are using ours negatively.

So sad and shameful
PoliticsRe: That Govenor by Epiphany(m): 3:47pm On Dec 12, 2008
Of course it is James Ibori. Who else will it be? Who has Ribadu 'touched' that has raised so much controversy?

That is the nice thing about Ibori though. I think he learned a bit from Babangida in the sense that although he stole embezzled cannot account for so much money, it seems as if he spread it around so much, that holding him will implicate so many. It is said that he was one of the funders of Yar'Adua's elections and so on.

Yes, i think he is THAT GOVERNOR.

These stories do not move me anymore.
But wait a minute - i think there really is a problem amongst us when these kind of stories do not move us anymore. Does that mean that we do not love our country any longer? Or does it mean that we have grown skins so thick, that the sight of pain and suffering does nothing to our emotions?
I am afraid to even answer my questions because i will shock myself.
PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Stays As Supreme Court Upholds Election by Epiphany(m): 3:33pm On Dec 12, 2008
Quite frankly, i dont think any one of us was expecting anything otherwise. Removing governors is not the same as removing a president, especially when the country is in such a fragile state.

PoliticsRe: What Do You Suggest Can Make Nigeria Better? by Epiphany(m): 6:25pm On Nov 26, 2008
IF People like Obj, Useni, IBB, Anenih, Gana, Nzeribe, and others who have either milked this nation or helped milk this nation, should FALL DOWN AND DIE. That is the first thing.

Without this, any well meaning efforts by hard working people, will not yield much. We need those who have allowed corruption to thrive, to be removed from the scene so that serious minded people can work and do their magic in peace.

Pls, dont allow me continue writing because all my bitterness will spill out.
PoliticsRe: If Jesus Was A Pastor In Nigeria How Many Cars Would He Have? by Epiphany(m): 6:19pm On Nov 26, 2008
@ Jakumo: O boy, who you be? That was a tight answer o! Abi, pastor or one religious person don do you strong thing before? That was a brilliant answer.

This question about Jesus will continue to be asked. My own answer is that although pple often say that he rode on a horse, i dont think the horse belonged to him. His ministry did not acquire land and property, neither did he fraternise with the government, in fact, they HATED him. This is very much unlike what we see today, where General Overseers and Senior Pastors are the best friends of presidents, governors and ministers.

FamilyRe: First Pregnancy. First Labor. First Baby. How Was It? by Epiphany(m): 1:23pm On Nov 19, 2008
Lovely topic. I think it is one that all women AND MEN should actually read.

Was with my wife through the nine months and into the labour room. She was very very brave about it, even tho i had to hold her hand throughout. I watched every minute detail and saw how the baby came out of that 'little' place. It was a miracle and i appreciated my wife and mother at that moment. Throughout the labor, my wife was abusing (not in a bad way) her dad for getting her mom pregnant 7 times. According to her, she wondered why any man would want to put his wife through the process for so long, so many times

When people ask my wife how it was, she tells them plainly that it was very very painful for her, although we heard that some women have the baby before they even know it.

As far as i am concerned, i think it is something every man and father must see. The days of contributing only your sperm to the fatherhood process is over. Fatherhood starts from the moment there is inception. Helping the Mrs through the pregnancy is compulsory. Being in the delivery room is double compulsory and so is having your share of feeding, changing, bathing and looking after the baby. I think after the childbirth, mummy also needs some time off to go out and enjoy herself, alone or with friends and family, without having to worry about the baby. If the father is responsible enough, he should be able to take care of that baby for a few hours or even a day.

It is the best experience a man can have. Being involved in the life of another human being from day one.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria, South Africa Agree On Visa-free Regime by Epiphany(m): 5:29pm On Nov 14, 2008
Angelheart:
Richguys: Typical. You are singling out just ONE post! What about all them nasty comments that are made about South Africans? Stop being biased. I'm protecting my own.

Nigerians should keep out of SA!!
Hey Angelheart, there is no need to get upset. You should actually ignore a lot of what is being said about South Africans because as you know, THIS IS A NIGERIAN BLOG. A few months ago, a cousin on mine who lives in Jo'burg sent me his username and password to a South African blog to see what the South Africans also say about Nigerians. What they said was equally as bad.

There is no way you can keep Nigerians out of SA and SAfricans out of Nigeria. If you understand that SA makes a lot of money out of Nigeria, the same way that Nigerians in SA are getting a good education, good jobs and a 'better' life in SA, you will understand that the relationship is beneficial for all parties. Yes, there may be a few nigerian bad eggs in SA but it is the same way that there are a few south african bad eggs in Nigeria. Time there was when MTN (a south african company) had very bad employee standards. Even up till now, they are involved in one court case or the other.

I understand that you are 'protecting your own' but you should expect this when you choose to join a Nigerian blog. Mind you, given half the chance, most of the people abusing SA will relocate to SA. If you are also given the chance to live in Nigeria (with a good job and benefits), will you not go there? To save yourself the heartache etc, you should actually 'resign' from this blog.

PROOF?

Epiphany,

She ruined this "discussion" in the beginning with her IDIOTIC remark of how this isnt about Africa and just Nigeria and how Nigerians are barbarians because this has never happened in SA.

There's no way I'm going to take her FAKE concern for this issue seriously after uttering such BS.

If not for the whites SA would be worse than it already is. No one they are screaming for Apartheid to come back.

TWO MONTHS after Oprah opened that school for them, there was cases of molestation and abuse of the students which made oprah cry openly on TV. Yet this one is trying to yarn dust about Nigeria. Ori e o pe.
Hahahahaha. Well, having read her introduction again, i can honestly say that i CAN actually see some of what you are speaking about in there. It is as if she is telling the readers and viewers of the show, 'hey, this does not happen in SA, so please limit your thoughts to Nigeria alone'.

But na im i dey tell una say make una no kill am jare. She obviously knows that in SA they also have MAJOR issues so her 'throwing stones' at Nigerians will not do her any good. This is an African thing and ALL OF AFRICA IS TROUBLED.

My broda, e go better for us.
PoliticsRe: Child Witches Of Nigeria by Epiphany(m): 4:24pm On Nov 14, 2008
Ok. I watched the program too and indeed i was shocked. I have also read everyones arguement and i am 'pleased' to say that we all have valid points. To those who thing that Angelheart was trying to score some cheap points, good - because at first i thot so myself. Eventually, i can understand where she is coming from. I have a little girl too and when the program was on, i felt very bad. I kept looking at my little girl, wondering what on earth will make me do to her, what those IDIOTS on the program were doing to their children.

Not wanting to digress from the arguements, i would say that Africa has a rich, varied and very complex historical past. Needless to say that, ALL OF AFRICA HAS AT ONE TIME OR THE OTHER (EVEN NOW) exhibited some archaic and barbaric behaviour. The issue of Slavery still exists today (Sudan, Eritiria, Ethiopia, etc), rape and indiscriminate killing is still rampant (South Africa, Congo) Wars and Ethinic cleansing, etc ARE STILL VERY MUCH AROUND. It is unfortunate that Nigeria was picked as the last scapegoat by channel 4.

That said, having lived in different parts of Nigeria for years and having mingled with the most 'ordinary' people in society (in some villages not even on maps) i can say that the culture of WITCH CHILDREN is not in ALL parts of Nigeria. I stand to be correctd, but i am inclined to say that the behaviour we witnessed on that program may be the characteristic of only a few small villages in Akwa Ibom, or Cross River or some other states. It is equally unfortunate that the Western Media (in their usual stupid and un-educated way) labelled what happens in on little itsy bitsy village or at most, a few villages - as an occurence that happens all over Africa.

My people, there is no need to get upset about a South African 'talkling down on us' when they have their own problems in SA because i am sure that she knows that they do have problems. Let us all do the little we can do to stop these things and not fight ourselves about why another african is concerned about what is happening in Naija. Afterall, when the Kenyans were killing themselves over the elections etc, I was equally concerned by what i saw on tv. When the congolese are doing the same, i am also concerned about what happens to the women and children!
Foreign AffairsRe: I Really Wish Obama Wins.do Think This Will Have Any Positive Impact On Africans. by Epiphany(m): 8:55pm On Nov 04, 2008
DavidDylan:
nah. we are too busy stoning 13 yr olds and fighting guerilla wars. Obama cares for America first.
Very true. His first responsibility is to his people, the Americans. Trying to sort all their present problems and issues will take up enough of his time, without his having to worry about Africa. But hey, i think WE, AFRICANS should sort ourselves out first and stop waiting for someone to help us.

As far as i am concerned, the fact that Obama has an African father does not make him 'African' in the sense of it. He was born, bred, cultured, schooled, married, etc etc abroad and there is no iorta of africannes in him except his name.

My opinion sha!

PoliticsRe: Mantu And Ali To Become Ministers? by Epiphany(m): 4:03pm On Oct 08, 2008
This is the reason why Nigeria CANNOT and WILL NOT move very far very fast. How can Yar'Adua think of bringing back all those 'old' faces once again? All the names mentioned are old recycled people, including Akunyili. He should leave the woman where she is doing some good work and look for NEW YOUNG faces and people. I mean, in a country of 150million people (probably not counting the millions of professionals outside the country) cant we find 100 new vibrant people to run things?

I tire for naija o!
EducationRe: World Top 500 University Ranking - 2008 by Epiphany(m): 4:33pm On Oct 03, 2008
Hmmmm, it will be difficult, very very difficult for any Nigerian school to enter the top 500.
I am in my second University here in the UK and the experience i have had CAN NEVER (ok, let me not sound too negative, CAN NOT) be replicated by any Nigerian school

There are computer labs everywhere and once you are a student you have access to these systems, which are connected to the internet, have printers, scanners etc attached to them. Being a student also gives you access to various business and academic databases AROUND THE WORLD that will help you in your studies. There are various SW programs also to assist students and staff in the analysis of their research data etc. Most lecture theatres have projectors and whiteboards for lectures.

Communication with lecturers is done via emails, as every student has his own username and password, which in essence means that every student has his or her own email account. Every student is supposed to have a laptop (well, most students) to aid in their academic pursuit. Of course, you get good connectivity (wi-fi) in most areas of the schools. I mean, when i was doing my MBA, all the lectures were recorded and put on BLACKBOARD ( a tool that enabled the university host their classes on the internet) so that those that missed the class would just go there to download it.

I can go on and on and on, but i will only depress myself some more.

Where and when do we in Nigeria want to start acquiring all these things, which will enable us enter the top 500? Take into consideration that when we are acquiring all these things, these topmost universities will not be waiting for us, they will also be advancing with new technology.

THE FINAL KILLER, when i started my Masters, having just left Nigeria ( i met about 8 or 9 other nigerians in my class). In a class of almost 80 people of all nationalities, WE (Nigerians) WERE THE ONLY ONES THAT STARTED THE PROGRAM WITHOUT LAPTOPS. The indians, chinese, japanese, koreans, malaysians etc all came with theirs. It just made me wonder aloud that , are we the only ones that do not have that 'own a laptop' culture?
PoliticsRe: US Warns Nigeria Over Nuclear Technology And Iran by Epiphany(m): 11:45am On Oct 03, 2008
, But wait please! Lets all be realistic here and very honest with ourselves.

Forgetting the nuclear technology excuse, whether for energy or power or weapons, WHAT THE HELL IS NIGERIA FLIRTING WITH IRAN FOR? IRAN, IRAN, IRAN. There are other countries that we can actually form alliances with that will yield some mutual benefits, BUT IRAN?
There has not been anything positive, developmental or encouraging, coming from that country that i fail to see why Nigeria, A WHOLE NIGERIA, will want to belittle herself to form an alliance with them.

At this stage, if we are where we are supposed to be, we should be HELPING that country overcome their problems!
PoliticsRe: Sick President Can’t Lead A Dying Nation – Tunde Bakare by Epiphany(m): 11:34am On Oct 03, 2008
I believe that we all have valid points here. Yes it is possible for a sick man to lead a nation to its promised land without any hitches and problems. It is also possible that a sick man may not be able to lead a nation to its promised land due to the 'nature' of his illness. This of course, depends on the level and type of sickness the man has. E.g. when some people have simple malaria, they are COMPLETELY KNOCKED OUT and cannot move or get out of bed. Meanwhile, there are others, who when they have the same simple malaria, go about their businesses as if nothing is wrong with them. I am not a doctor, but i suggest that the latter may have a higher tolerance to the illness.

Is Yar'adua in the latter group or not. That is what we should be looking at. Personally, i think that the illness is getting in his way and he is not able to go about his business effectively. Even worse, is the case that Jonathan, not being a northerner (or even someone from a 'major' tribe) will not be allowed to wield the power of the VP completely, due to the tribalistic nature of the Nigerian State.

I think we are in another dispensation of being experimented with. "Let us see how much this SICK president can do with the time he has" is the attitude i think the powers that be are assuming.

What amazes me is that there are a lot more important things to bother about, than whether women are wearing proper clothes or not. For Gods sake, that is not the most important challenge this country has. If they are so worried about the way women dress, they should enforce laws that force all women to wear the muslim 'cover-all' thing

Apart from that, we all know that in politics, there is no permanent friend or enemy. It is unfortunate that Ige is dead otherwise, a few months down the line after the publication of this fancy headline, you would see both Obj and Ige hugging each other and eating from the same bowl of soup.
