Aloy`Emeka:By Buckingham palace, i assume that you mean the Queen? The Queen pays taxes. If you google (Queen + Tax) you will find out all the kinds of tax she pays. But on the issue of whether Prince Charles should get a job or not, i think he does have 'jobs'. He has all sorts of charities and Business interests in the UK and around the world promoting good business and corporate governance, CSR, youth empowerment programs, health issues and so on. Other than that, a lot of his duties also include those of a 'statesman' - some form of governance (i dont understand how these british do their thing sha). He chairs government occassions, meets with other heads of state, travels to represent England at certain functions etc etc. |
Aloy.Emeka:But on the other hand, the African society of today does not 'explicitely' promote this infidelity like it used to in the past. It is highly unbecoming for a public official to be known as a 'woman wrapper'. If this is done in private, people may turn a blind eye to this weakness but when it is openly flaunted, it is considered a shameful thing. Being married to more than one woman is allowed of course (due to religious and traditional values), but to be known philanderer is a no-no. Even many educated traditionalists and religious individuals (who are allowed the opportunity of as many as 4 or more wives) chose to have only one Although Abiola and Obasanjo were presidential aspirants, their fickle relationships to and with women was often a thing of shame. We have all read and heard statements pertaining to . . . 'how can we trust our nation into the hands of men who cannot control their immediate families'? We have also seen what their infidelity did to the families they have or left behind. Even women who had no relationship with Abiola are trying to claim some inheritance. Obj's son is fighting Obj over Obj's alleged relationship with Obj's son's wife. Imagine such blasphemy. . .all because Africa and Africans allow men to have numerous wives and girlfriends Another example of this is President Jacob Zuma of SA who has 6 or more wives. His attitude to women is also very shameful. We all know what he suffered at one time or the other too! |
Aloy.Emeka:No. |
Tudór: O boy you harsh o. . . very wickid ![]() |
i am not surprised. Those of us who live[d] in Anthony village (Ajao Estate) know Keyamo as a chronic womanizer. Always with a different girl everyday! The guy was my neighbour for almost 5 years and i did not even know that he is married. ![]() |
MUZBO: abeg, dont kill me wit laughter na |
![]() I laughed when i opened this thread But since you are *dragging* this out of me, forcing me to speak by putting a knife at my throat, i will say that one guy who |
ifyalways:We are not scared o. . . just being a bit playful. Personally, i enjoy reading and contributing to these threads. Some of them are outright hilarious and keep me laughing for days. It is amusing to see how we as Nigerians, think, act and relate to one another concerning certain issues. Banning me will just make me angry with the moderators and put a sour taste in my mouth. Even tho i can always re-join again (with a different name), it wont be the same. However, i think that instead of outright banning someone, the moderator. . . or whoever is responsible for it should call that person aside and give reasons why whatever the person wrote is not acceptable. Probably give a warning or two. I dont know if that is being done now o, so forgive my ignorance if it is a process that is currently followed. |
The boy's father should be publicly flogged. ![]() From this, we can see that it is some parents that spoil these kids. |
noetic15:Abeg o, make you take sofry dey talk. Make dem no ban us! ![]() |
Guys: I wanted to reply to that post that was deleted and suddenly found out that it was not there anymore. I dont think that it is such a nice thing to do. . . to delete people's opinions. As far as i know, there was nothing derogatory or insulting on that post. It may have been a bit sarcastic, but nothing too bad! |
naijaking1:While i want to state that waiting for evidence is always a rule of law, as you cannot convict anyone without the proper evidence, i would also like to say that MORE OFTEN THAN NOT waiting for evidence in Nigeria is like trying to squeeze water out of a rock. In cases such as this, there is NEVER any evidence (or enough evidence) to bring anyone to book and that is why there are still a lot of government thieves and murderers out there. This is especially the case when there are no foreign institutions involved in these criminal cases. If the UK was not involved in Ibori as well as Alamieyeseigha's cases, there would NEVER have been any evidence to convince us Nigerians that these guys were crooks. Left to our own institutions: the police, legal system, records systems etc, all politicians are INNOCENT, and have never dipped their hands into public funds. It is in Nigeria that evidence dey waka, evidence dey burn, people dey bribe evidence, people dey kill evidence, etc. HOWEVER, even in cases where there is enough evidence to convict, people still dey waka as free men. In essence, even if the evidence against Soludo is produced, he may still walk away a free man and become the governor of Anambra tomorrow. |
Governors, Ministers, President - those are the people these boys should be kidnapping. . . not any traditional ruler for God's sake. Kidnap the big fish and not the plankton |
PapaBrowne:Something is wrong with my system. Cant seem to get to post my question properly |

kosovo:No need for any transportation whatsoever. Since the uniben students have done their part, the Abuja and neighbouring university students should carry on the torch and march to Aso Rock. If the protest cannot be synchronized effectively, then the effort by the uniben students would have been wasted |
Excellent idea. The barricade would have been better IN FRONT OF ASO ROCK'S ENTRANCE. That definately would have got Yar'Adua's attention! ![]() |
@ Poster: You are asking everyone about their deepest fears about Nigeria and castigating them for their what they have written! My take on your 'tone' is that you are seeking only positive comments rather than accomodating the many 'realistic' comments that many have spewed forth. Like many commentators have indeed posited, my own fear is that many of us in our lifetime will not see Nigeria emerge from the present mess she is in. We may see some progress - in the far future, but that progress will not be weighty enough to satisfy our deepest yearnings |
Hey Porka: You should send him an email to ask him directly whether he is an economist. I am sure he will reply you. He usually replies those who send emails to his address. Try his website or his facebook account Maybe if you do that, he will explain his credentials to you in detail. He is the only one that knows himself and all we can do on this site is speculate and infer |
24, desparate housewives and prison break - in that order |
maxsiollun:A lot of people will go down with him. That is why he CANT be arrested. This is not a case of Odili, Ibori, Igbinideon and others who single handedly (or with a handful of associates) stole millions from state coffers. By the time IBB begins to finger Traditional rulers, Governors, Ministers, Bank managers, Ministers, Church leaders, Vice Chancellors, Soldiers, Past/present leaders who accepted vast amounts and 'helped' chop the national cake, the fibres of the country will just break down! |
My own thoughts are that anyone that is planning to arrest IBB had better have his hands very very clean or should be prepared to face the wrath of the country also. As far as i know, not many people (politicians, business men, traditional rulers, etc) out there are 'innocent' and have at one time or the other eaten a part of the national cake. I have the sneaky feeling that IBB, being a former head of state, was and still is privy to a lot of the conspiracy that has gone down in this country. As we know, serving and retired army generals are still being fed with state security updates. I am sure IBB has much more than the 'usual' updates. Being a smart man and an accomplished soldier, i also feel that he has dates, documents and proof at his finger tips to use blackmail, persuasive measures and even outright threats to call a lot of people to order, should they entertain any ideas such as arresting him for trials. The few clean and honest people that tried to take him to court over certain issues (like Gani) did not go very far in their efforts. How many other people out there can boast of being as transparent as Gani? The mere fact that OBJ is IBB's senior does not matter here. Was it not IBB and his 'cabal' that persuaded OBJ to run for presidency immediately after he came out of prison? I am equally sure that this cabal bankrolled his election. I dont think there is much to the 'seniority' thing in the Nigerian army. Afterall, was Mustapha not terrorizing officers who were much older than him in age and rank? Every society has its untouchables (to a certain degree). I think IBB is one of ours. Instead of publicly arresting him and ridiculing him, the powers that be would rather come to some form of agreements with him. Maybe give him a little 'slap on the wrist' like they have done to others like Igbinidion and co. |
This is not going to solve our problems - boycotting Sony products. If we say no to the products and our politicians still continue their rubbish, how will the boycott help us? If we say no to Sony and you and i are still tribalistic (as shown here on nairaland) will this make Nigeria a better place? NO it will not |
Honestly, i don tire for this ghost worker nonsense. If the government officials in top positions are not the ones doing this, i wonder who is? It is not rocket science in trying to get a proper verification done once and for all, whether state or nationwide. I have been hearing of this 'ghost worker' thing since the 80's when i was in primary school. If it is not the FG, it is a state government. If not, it is a ministry or parastatal. Haba, dem no dey tire to fool all of us? |
Nice read: These ones also have names that give them away: Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje - Actor Chuka Umunna - politician Yemi Osunkoya - Designer (wedding gowns) |
lawyer:Thumbs up Lawyer ![]() |
Sagamite:Exactly. if he bothered to report this development, he should have found out the figures. . . unless the govt is up to something and has just given a word-of-mouth recommendation to implement a new pay scale (The article stated that 'it is an approval in principle and the finer details are still ongoing). It is not completely formalized yet. That one be say arguements are continuing |
Outstrip:True that, true that. But there are some you cannot minimize - like the parents and even the siblings expectations of or from you! Or take a look at the royal family. The firsborns always have a 'heavy burden' placed on them like Prince Charles and his son, prince william. How will they minimize the expectations that the public has for them? Tough job, tough job! |
Outstrip: ![]() Wow thats interesting. 6 weeks. . . just over one month ![]() ![]() The woman may not even be completely 'healed'! I am surprised that people in the US (esp working/professional mothers) have not pushed for something similar to what obtains in Europe. I would have thought that with all the womens lib and equality movements, these would have been top on the list. |
Bawss1: ![]() Well, a lot of men cannot live without 'shopping'. Even those that can live without it only do so for a while - because the urge to 'shop' can hit anytime. While some men are frequent 'shoppers', others 'shop' sparingly. |
Outstrip:Chei, i only just heard about the US!!!!!!! THERE IS NOTHING LIKE MATERNITY LEAVE with pay? ARE THEY CRAZY Why is that? I hear that you have to use your accrued leave if you want more than the few weeks they give to you! When in parts of Europe, e.g. Sweden, women take up to a year off with their full salary paid for 6months. Men can also get Paternity leave for some months too. Germany has something like that but the time off is not up to a year. Same as UK and other European countries. |
