RyanAutomotive:
Good day sir,

Thank you for explaining the situation clearly. We understand why this is worrying — especially after replacing several components and still seeing the same fault. You’re right to pause before allowing anyone to “open the engine.” 👍

Vehicle: Toyota Camry 2008
Engine: 2.4L (2AZ-FE)

Let’s break this down properly and remove the fear and guesswork.

⸻

🔧 Professional Diagnostic Insight — Camry 2.4L (P0303 & P0172)

Reported Symptoms:
• Persistent P0303 (Cylinder #3 misfire)
• P0172 (System too rich – Bank 1)
• Rough idle
• Jerking at low speed
• Swapping plugs, coils, and injector made no difference
• Unplugging coil #3 causes little or no RPM drop

This combination tells us something very important:

⚠️ Cylinder #3 is contributing little to nothing at idle, and the ECU is over-fueling to compensate.

⸻

🚨 Critical Observation (Very Important)

You have already ruled out:
• Spark plug
• Ignition coil
• Injector
• External wiring faults

That immediately narrows the issue down to mechanical or air/fuel control imbalance, not electrical guesswork.

However — this does not automatically mean the engine must be opened.

⸻

🔍 Likely Root Causes (Ranked by Experience)

1️⃣ Intake Manifold / Vacuum Leak at Cylinder #3 (Very Common)

On the 2AZ-FE engine:
• Intake manifold gasket leaks often affect specific cylinders
• Cylinder #3 is a known hotspot

This causes:
• Lean misfire on one cylinder
• ECU compensates by adding fuel → P0172
• Coil unplug test shows little change because the cylinder is already weak

➡️ This is frequently misdiagnosed as a bad engine.

⸻

2️⃣ Valve Seating Issue (Not Full Engine Failure)

Possible but less severe than people fear:
• Slightly burnt exhaust valve
• Carbon buildup preventing full valve seal

This results in:
• Low compression on cylinder #3
• Poor idle contribution
• Misfire mainly at low RPM

⚠️ This can often be confirmed without opening the engine using proper tests.

⸻

3️⃣ Stuck-Open Injector or Fuel Control Error

Even if the injector was changed:
• Aftermarket injectors can over-fuel
• ECU trims may be heavily skewed due to long-term misfire

This causes:
• Rich mixture code
• Rough idle
• Cylinder imbalance

⸻

4️⃣ ECM Fuel Trim Adaptation Not Reset

After repeated parts replacement:
• ECU continues using old correction data
• Misfire and rich codes persist even after good parts are installed

⸻

🔎 What Tests Should Be Done FIRST (Before Any Engine Work)

Before anyone talks about “bringing the engine down,” the following must be done:

✔️ Cylinder compression test (dry & wet)
✔️ Leak-down test (pinpoints valves vs rings)
✔️ Intake smoke test (checks gasket & vacuum leaks)
✔️ Live data review (short- & long-term fuel trims)
✔️ Power balance test via scan tool

Only these will tell the truth.

⸻

🚫 What This Is NOT
• Not coil brand
• Not spark plug heat range
• Not random injector swapping
• Not wiring guesswork

Opening the engine without these confirmations is risky and expensive.

⸻

⚙️ Ryan Automotive Limited — Professional Take

From experience, over 60% of Camry 2AZ-FE cylinder-specific misfires end up being:
• Intake gasket leaks
• Minor valve sealing issues
• Fuel trim mislearning

Not total engine failure.

An engine should only be opened when mechanical loss is proven, not assumed.

⸻

📌 Recommended Next Steps

We strongly advise:
• Full Toyota live-data diagnostic scan
• Compression & leak-down testing
• Intake system smoke test
• ECU adaptation reset after confirmation

📍 Clients bring vehicles to Ryan Automotive Limited from different areas because we diagnose first, repair once, and avoid unnecessary engine work.

If you want clarity and peace of mind before making a costly decision, you’re welcome to bring the vehicle in.

My 2008 Camry 2.4L keeps throwing P0303 and P0172 codes. I've already swapped out the plugs, coils, and fuel nozzle, and an electrician checked the wiring, finding no issues. The engine idles rough and jerks at low speeds. When I unplug the coil wire for cylinder #3 while idling, there's barely any change in the RPM. My mechanic thinks it's an engine problem with cylinder #3.

Have anyone encountered such issue before, I'm afraid of bringing the engine down.
your car will behave as if it has HIV once your Injectors where swapped, simple reason cos they are coded to Engine cylinder number ,Now plenty mechanics do not know this, You need a dealer level scanning tool to program them to respective cylinders. There is a number on Each Injectors so go to someone with a fairly decent scan tool to program them with the numbers on them. Start from there.

Before you get solar system, they will say you don't need NEPA, you don't need generator, it's a lie.

The solar system is only good if there is sufficient sunlight, without it, it's just a seasonal fruit.

Two weeks now, little or no sunlight to charge, from user point of view, I m pissed. My only saving grace is my old rusty generator. I thought I m free but I thank God, I didn't scrap it

With this rate, it may end up falling below 1500 for a GBP before December.
there is nothing like Naira to pounds market to compare, its always compared to the Dollar he pounds is compared to the Dollars, then niara rate is derived from it. Even if the dollar to naira rate does not shift just shift in Dollar to pounds rate depilates the naira.

In other climes the authorities will look into this to see if this buyout stifles competition and is potentially creating a monopoly.

But in a country of weak institutions where even certain individuals appear bigger than the country thoughtless of conglomerates, nothing will be cakes into question.

It is the nature of men to become as powerful as possible. It is the responsibility of society to see this is done safely.
This kind of statements could only come from one who is not in the know of what is happening here. These guys just bought transmission infrastructure which already have its own contract, it is not going to increase customer base of MTN, its actually a very bad move I suspect this is just to manipulate share price because if you do a proper research you ill realize that MTN already has up to 23 or 24% stake in IHS

If the objective is truly about protecting children, then why not propose a law that prohibits the sale of alcohol to anyone under the age of 18, with strict penalties for those who violate it? huh
Don't mind them, what they should push for is
1 ban the sale of any Alcohol to anyone under the age if 18
2 Ban sale of alcohol b4 2pm
3 ban consumption of alcohol in front of anyone under the age of 18
4 Licence the sale of Alcohol
5 Anyone under the age of 18 should not work. Serve or sell alcohol in the premises the abide or work or help.

You don't need to know the robbers
You guys watch too much Movies and just conclude, This so called evidence you are masturbating about is derived from a TV program, which was edited and aired. These sort of evidence are not admissible in court a smart lawyer will fru it out in 5 mins. The only reason this has managed to go to court is cos they are u sing tax payers money, if it were his personal money do you think he would waste it on matters like this ?The defendant will simply say he never said that and that it was edited and there is no proof to say he was lying, and the persecution has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that they are right, This evidence is rubbish, they do not even have specific time of this bridges and what they heard or collected ,Bridge of phone conversation aka phone tap has technical foot prints and these needs to be brought to court.

ahahah, We should not politicize everything, I tell you what, the Electricity troubles and the power troubles we have in Nigeria are not solely caused by Politicians rather civil servants are the main culprit but the scream bad government. Look at ordinary Metre that should be installed we already see troubles. I think what the government needs to do is give an ultimatum to outlaw estimated billings, this is how the workers short-change investors, Have you not heard of how PHCN officials go instigating people for bypass or encouraging them not to have prepaid metres?

You are a minority. And please don’t confuse working remotely with being skilled. There are lots of jobs Nigerians are now doing abroad or remotely simply because those roles have become too low level for the locals in those country for the pay. If Nigerians were truly that skilled and resources, foreigners wouldn’t be here taking low level jobs. The best bricklayers, carpenters, painters etc in Nigeria are not Nigerians.

That’s isn’t to say there aren’t skilled Nigerians, the are few and far between. I know.
You are the one in the minority with this school of thought my friend. you are remotely short in the knowledge of remote working thinking it is fixed at just desktop work. What do you understand by remote work?
So cos you do not see foreigners' sweeping the streets you think we are not progressing and there are no JOBs ,you are xtreemly funny,do you know how many people are employed and are not captured in teh data base of employment for one reason or the other? There is no one country in the world where there are Jobs vacant skilled or unskilled with no one to fill in.
Coming back to remote jobs, Let me Enlighten you a bit, as we speak, I know 15 guys who are almost at the end of training for their Drone pilot licence. A surveillance. Data capture, Remote upgrading and trouble shooting, we even have guys remotely diagnosing people as a GP, and this is what the west is going to as we speak, I am a fluid Engineer and I am in Nigeria as we speak and I'm on my laptop still working in PH and controlling stuff in the UAE remotely, Like I said once again Speak for yourself brother.

As you speak,Electricity is getting cheaper via alternative source, let me tell you my personal experience, there is a device sold at N40k, it has three LED bulbs anda charging station for laptops and phones, it has one mini panel. Suitable for persons ie students living i self con, one bulb bathroom, one in kitchen and one n main room sorted, can last all darkness periods till the morning. Nigeria has bigger problems preventing the creation of jobs….a majority poorly educated/uneducated and unskilled population. Put in the power today and you will find you don’t have the Local skilled resources to fill the vacancies.

Manual labour, yes, skilled jobs no! Even our carpenters, bricklayers, painters etc come from neighbouring countries.
Bro you can speak for yourself, do you have any idea how skilled Nigerians are fru self thought? you really think so little of yourself. I can use myself as an Example, I also have loads of colleagues too who re Nigerians working remotely from every part of the globe, we as Nigerians are very resourceful with minimum help fro the government of the day. Our problem is this bloody Electricity once this is fix, we have fixed 70% of our problems, corruption will reduce drastically cos everything will now be electronic and has a trail.
