yes, there will be history but not in all cases. I won't go to explain that now. Truth is that most of our dealers bring in badly accidented cars. Badly accidented that you think they are imported solely for parts. A trip to Tin can will make u weep. Sometimes out of the greed of dealers they do these things. Some other times out of the unreasonable demand of people. Someone will want a 2010 Venza but he has just 2m. A wicked dealer will just want to take advantage. We have a long way to go in this country. Our values are horrible.
Oh they clear them at the port cheaper too, thats a fact, and shipping cars as parts is way cheaper than roro

A Camry of $10,000 is roughly 3.6m+ at CBN exchange rate without shipping or clearing. If you add shipping+clearing+ dealer's profit, you are looking at almost 5m naira. Advertise that on Nairaland here, and watch miscreants call you all manner of names. I've bee there before and I know what's up. That being said,I won't dispute the fact that there are greedy dealers. I know someone who shipped in an accidented Highlander years ago and fixed it to resell. When he wanted to bid for it, I told him not to buy it for resale but to buy it and butcher it for parts. He came here and fixed it and spent a lot of money on it,and could barely even sell it well... I agree that people should disclose the history of cars here.

As regards the issue of rolled back mileage, it is ignorance that is killing Nigerians and at such, they become a victim of their over sabi. Do you know that some cars with high mileage on the odometer, usually have their engines changed at around 180k-220k km? When the engine has been changed, the car doesn't start reading from zero. Sometimes, a car with a landing mileage of 350k, might have had the engine changed at 280k. This means the current engine would be on about 70k. Instead of our people to focus on the performance of the car and how sound the engine is,they'd be shouting mileage is too high. Dealers who are desperate to sell, end up rolling back mileage to suit the customer's ignorance. Some rolled back mileages are even done in the US. Imagine a client looking for 2003 corolla with mileage of 80k max,in 2018. The average drive for a car is about 15k miles/yr in the US but some cars do more than that yearly. Multiply 15k by 15 yrs and that gives you 225k miles. But you'd see ignorant over sabi folks, demanding maximum of 80-100k miles. This is why most dealers resort to tricks.
your 1st paragraph was amazing.

So you're now saying that cos of that bumper I shouldn't sell my car for the price I sold it?? Is that it? Or I should have tagged it "accident car"??

So, what are you now saying pls??
There is a reason your car has a salvage tittle, we should stick to it, cars not properly repaired is a moving death trap!
But I know if you fix these cars to factory or road worthy standards, they become far expenssive!
NB, If you decalre your car salvaged but repaired at point of sale, and you intend to sell @ say N4m, I will deff say I would pay N2,5M after inspection. No way will I pay same as a car with a clean bill of health prior shipping to Nigeria!

exactly. That's why you have the Mexicans with their cheap labor almost allover the states. But again, let's not derail this thread. Alot of shady practices have been going on here with the dealers. This is one very good move. I just hope the mods will enforce VIN as a requirement for adverts. Atleast a lot of people have been enlightened so they don't see honest dealers who bring in clean titled cars as greedy fellows who sell at exorbitant prices. Next door should be the custom clearing agents. Please this trend should continue. Especially unearthing fraudulent people who label salvage cars as accident free.
ahah I like the last bit salvage car as free and clean.Them full here.

Accident nah Accident,Una go dey run mouth upandown, jast respect ursef and leave this matter period, one day one of yah lot will sell these death trap to someone close and a minor bump there would be no airbag.
The truth of the matter is this, if you fix these cars to standard, you wont make profit.U know this

valarinz, I respect you a lot for standing by one brand. There is no need issuing threats. I checked out the thread, that car is accidented naa. The accident wasn't bad. Only rear bumper and minor blemishes on the right side. Truth is most Nigerians cannot and will not even if they have the means, buy clean titles. The campaign is just full disclosure. Just leave it at that Bro.

pls let's not exaggerate these things. Whites buy these cars in their numbers, fix them up and sell at dealerships. They use these cars there a lot. In fact they drive up the prices at auction as a result of their interests and having excess cash cos they don't get to ship and pay custom duty. The campaign is full disclosure.
Hey we cannot suger coat shyte, people abroad buy these cars only if there is no structural damage and lebelled as repairable.Moreso, you will have to take these cars for inspection and it has to pass all safety checks, something very expenssive to do.Often its cheaper to buy a new car than this accident and damaged one hence the Insurance coy writes it off.

valarinz:
So bros, cos you bought a clean title car and yet Nigerians refused to buy it, rather they prefer the cheaper accidented ones, you pass the verdict that the fellow car dealers are your problem and reasons for not selling??

A very simple solution staring you in the face, yet u ignore it cos u want to follow the popular bandwagon route of blaming dealers for every thing, even a missing spare bolt.

All of them typing all these holy things here on this thread will still not buy your Clean title car, if you like supply VIN or more, they'll rather buy accidented or they'll price your Clean title car for same or even lower than accidented ones, yet u keep blaming the dealers, if you are serious for biz u won't put yourself in a situation where you'll have to tie down your money for 8 months for a meagre 150k profit.

Do the maths!!
Sometimes we need to think outta the box so we do not get stagnant.
The reasons I stopped was I found out its a waste of time cos it takes longer and ties ur money down.I never claimed it was cos of other sealers rather the Biz is now full of what seems to be cheaper newer cars.We are now finding out why these cars are cheaper,
Also when I was in the line of blaming other Dealers it was not genralizing rather the few bad eggs who do sharp practice, Now this brings me to wonder, are you amongst the few bad eggs who engage in sharp practices?cos im wondering why U picked up on a post that was sent in that direction!

this model will not go into limp mode.

For the question about limp mode.

if you had a sore on your left foot, you would apply less weight to the left foot, and your walking will be with a limp, and you might be unable to run.

Same thing the engine ecu does when it notices errors on the engine that will result in damage if not fixed immediately, it switches to LIMP mode, a mode that limits your ability to Rev beyond a certain limit, or disables certain cylinders to limit engine damage to a minimum, while not keeping you stranded on the road.
This why I dont like them cars, no limp mode so nah your Engine to die remain ni grin grin

diesels are better if you cover many miles and move heavy items, i noticed its more expensive to run diesel vehicles in the city as fuel consumption is much.

diesel engines are very dirty even when you do oil change its still black and dirty.

lastly the skill of doing a complete engine overhaul is fast becoming lost as the average mechanic prefers you buy another engine.
Wrong, even @ short distance diesel gives u beter mpg. This is why all (99%)taxi in Europe are diesel

1st thiing you do is google that make and find location of the VIN, once you know it, go to the car snap the VIN and do physical check, go away and run a VIN check, then the true situation will come to light then make a deccission on waht you see.

Yes, these are the reasons I stopped selling cars, you have to be bad to make money cos of these scammers.I sold my last car on here 2014 I think, for N1,050,000.000, landing price was N900k, 2001 camry.after 8 months sitting. So it was a waste of time and investment,I will only do pre order if i venture back again, cos the cost of clean cars are unspeakable since these scammers sell dead cars as great cars for great price.
