pickabeau1: True dat..

But please let me not derail you from your general principlw which is sound

Your post does not identify how to take individual responssibility
I'll adress that soon. My plan is to open two other threads:
-one will talk about how those that have externalized their problem should be aware of what they are doing and could reduce the impact on the other part
-the other thread will suggest ways that the parties that are carrying other people's 'problem' can manage the relationship

I plan to use house guests as my 'case study'

pickabeau1: The car pooling one is not really bad .... the guy may have issues n be cash struck
Its not bad at all, but I think the guy should fully appreciate that he or she is externalizing her problem to the owner of the car.
The owner of the car will for example have to do some extra cleaning, and depending on the number of people that are being carried regularly
the car maintenance cost might increase

Christianity EtcRe: When The Stars In Their Courses Fight For You by esere826(op): 8:39am On Oct 06, 2013
Recently however, it dawned on me that these bodies can indeed fight on one's behalf
How?
It could be something like this:

Many people are increasingly turning to star gazing
Zodiac signs they call them

In star gazing, the readers are told what to expect during a period
so, imagine that that man who has been witholding your contract reads his zodiac,

and the Zodiac sign tells him that when he does you the favour of releasing your contract
he will achieve his own goals.
He believes this and releases your contract

.....indeed , you can then truely say that the stars in their heavenly courses have fought on your behalf.
do have a blessed week

Christianity EtcWhen The Stars In Their Courses Fight For You by esere826(op): 8:29am On Oct 06, 2013
Judges 5: 20
"The stars fought from heaven, From their courses they fought against Sisera."

The first time I read this verse, it sounded poetic
and I appreciated it as simply that

Many years later, someone used this text and got the congragation screaming in joy
he was telling them that even stars and moons will fight for them
and trust our people, they loved the tought of cellestial bodies grasping hold of arrows that were being aimed at them at night time

Being a very visual person, it is one of those scriptures that bothered me for a long time
as I tried to imagine stars with hands and legs jumping atop chariots
....wasn't floating my boat

I can't believe that some folks are utilizing google and wikipedia as the tool to establish that
the intercontinental hotel building in Lagos is 'certainly' the tallest in this part of the world

,,yeahh, it is apparently one of the tallest,
-but I dont expect the hotel owners and the state government to be the best source for naming theirs the tallest building
-if the original aim of the builder was to create the tallest structure for sure, they should have made it more obvious my making it much taller

I think the tag of the building as the tallest is a bragging, marketing induced aftertought
(not a bad infrastructure sha)

7) saving your money (instead of paying for transport or buying a car) and then hitching daily rides with your friend
-Although this could be smart, it could also be annoying especially if you have same financial strength as your colleague
What you could do is to do some maths and help in filling the tank once in a while, or at least buy him beer regularly.

8 ) Getting a 10 to 14 yr old child from the village to wait on your own 10 to 14 yr old child
-Are you really serious?, Are you helping the child or enslaving him/her? May jesus forgive you

4) 'Taking' someone else's boyfriend, girlfried, wife or husband and saying that you have found love at last
-yeap, you have found love, but thanks to you someone else has lost love. ..me i guilty of this one

5) Buying stuff (handbags, shoes, garri etc) on credit and then not paying for it
-You just robbed that lady of shoes that she could have worn herself

6) Borrowing money and not paying back, but going ahead in your piousness to pay tithes and offering
-So the giver is a fool abi? she doesnt deserve to give offerings of her own money? So, You honestly think that
you can play spiritual kalo kalo with someone else's money successfully

1) Sweeping the roads and then throwing the garbage into drainages
-I once barked at one of those Lagos sweepers that I saw doing this. Extremely stupid if you ask me

2) Clearing your grass/lawn, and then using the cut grass to fill up potholes on your street
-This might be good for a couple of days, but the stench and road spoilage after this is not worth it

3) Stealing pensioners money so that you can afford to travel around the world with your kids and your parents
-Extremely wicked. But interestingly, some of these pensioners did the same to those before them

After reading that ^^^, my eyes kon open
and I became more concious of the things I do

Let's take a look at some things we do 'well' that cause/externalize our pains to others:

They dumped the trash into a stream flowing downhill
The writer tried to tell the teenagers that what they were doing was wrong
That although they had done a great job of tidying up after themselves
they had succeeded in externalizing the junk to any other place that the stream would lead the garbage to

Typically, the teenagers were upset with the writer and told him off
As far as they were concerned, they had done well by cleaning their space
FamilyRe: Are You Externalizing Your Problems? by esere826(op): 3:38pm On Oct 05, 2013
The first time I discovered this concept of externalizing/outsourcing issues
was during a research on ethics

The writer explained that he once went to the woods (Nigerians might call it bush or jungle)
and saw a group of teenagers who had just finished camping.

The group cleared up the place very neatly, -no cans on the floor, place thoroughly swept etc
The writer was about to commend the group of teenagers for being so neat until he saw what they did next.

ARE YOU EXTERNALIZING YOUR PROBLEMS?

I swear, this is an extremely wide subject touching on every aspects of our lifes from politics to entertainment
However, I'll place it here because:
1) I might write a follow up that is familly centric
2) It could encourage parents to inculcate in their kids some extra positive habits

@Peter I Acha and all those in your predicament

Travelista and rosesola have spoken wisely...heed them

-Your mail shows two positives about you. You're very coherent/organised and quite courageous
-It however, shows something that you might need to work on -your understanding of economics, business and society

I have so much to share but I cant. Things are not always straightforward :

1)The first ethical responsibility of a business is for it not to collapse. Your former bank which you praise so much is dead. Probably due to its profligacy.
2) My xtian lesson tells me that we should not touch dead things lest we be defiled. You're holding on too much to the dead past of Intercontinental Bank and it cld affect you moving forward
3) You've done well by bringing this issue to the fore. You've 'attempted' to bell the cat. You'll most likely end up in its belly. Thank God that we still have heroes that are willing to make sacrifices
4) The lion and the gazell wake up in the morning each praying for success for the day's endeavour before they set out into the fields. The success of one means the failure of the other.

.......I wish you godspeed

based on my belief in christ which u fault

...i suspect that the those in heaven will be re-twigged mentally to cope with eternity
just like angels are designed to face issues or tasks different from men
and the grass of the fields have their own 'dimension'

I also suspect that the retwigging will ensure that beings dont rebel or disobey like satan an adam did
if they did, the whole 'mess' will begin over again

nitrogen: The bolded is just the fact, infact I keep arguing this out with someone almost every week, these traditions established by our clerics are influencing and misguiding willing lives. Very sad! I was once a victim, but thank God, am free, seems morality brings out the real religious prostulations while religion brings just 'eternal rest in heaven'. Am still trying to reach a premise anyway.
If Peter who was one of the direct receivers of the gospel was tied down to tradition and could not escape it, so that Paul had to be given the baton to evangelize to the gentiles (gentiles who now scoff at things they dont understand)

then it is understandable that we are tied down to traditions

..traditions are aparantly so strong that an entire generation of jews were killed by YhWH in the wilderness so that they do not contaminate their new home with their slave mentality

And for those xtians that are quick to be the oracle of the bible
I have this to say (or question to ask)

-Have you really read the xtian bible from the first chapter to the last? Every single bit?
-What would you have done if you were one of those that compiled the bible? (as in those 'modern day" scholars that put the new testament together) -adding some books and removing some others? You probably would have been scared to even add those books to the 'holy Torah (the original bible that was referred to by early xtians)"

Sit back, relax and think for a bit
who made you the caretaker of my beliefs?
under who's authority?

Virick, Virick

I enjoyed your narrative on our 'none-existense" smiley
imagine that the ONE is also a figment of another's imagination
and this simplicity goes on and on into a web of confusion which is actually simple for the right type of reasoning

i guess it gets to a point where we throw our hands up and say "itz enough"
"my senses are growing numb from too much thinking ... just give me that old time religion. its good enough for me"

nitrogen: Hmmmmmm! You are one!

Bringing out facts or rather personal opinions that make someone like noblefada, a fanatic of christainity feel bad and talk aggresively (thinking you are against his belief/general belief) is 'freethinkerism', that is IF that word exist.

Check out Tai!
i never tought of myself that way
but if you read the book "God's generals why they succeded and why they failed"

You'll see something interesting
(from my faint memory of the book)

a certain man who had no previous xtian background when he got born again and established his ministry
approached xtianity in an almost totally different way in his church

My conclusion from this is that we are mainly influenced not by the bible,
but by the traditions of the church around us

Imagine this

"God says that we should snap our necks when we get to the age of 40"
"do not dare question him"

I esere826 write that down as a book and 'religion" and folks pick it up some years from now

then someone sits on a socialmedia platform some 200 yrs from now and says that the book of esere826 says do not think or question this command

You can see from the above that the only way to be sure that the book of esere826 is the word of God is to engage with it, and not to abandon reasoning. Afterall God made us with brains so we can reason

@phillipsdael
great question
how can you prove the authenticity of the bible

I would think the answer to the question varies depending on the context
If for example, you believe in God (any god), then ask him and/or keep on the quest for rprove of authenticity

if you dont believe in the the possibility that one exists, then dont bother wasting your time asking such a question to 'him' or any human
just live your life and avoid the religious section or debates

If you no show face, many of us wont be bothered to reach out to you with our thoughts
Christianity EtcRe: There Was A Tree In The Garden: We Were Not Neccasarily Made To Worship God by esere826(op): 6:14pm On Sep 29, 2013
Virick: A conclusion is only as sound as the premise on which such is made. As per usual the premise for such courageous question is the one book which tells blatant lies about much, including the Adam and Eve (so called first couple) and an apple tree. Perhaps u might want to consider that the apple tree as a means of temptation is a lie, in the first place.
yep, i have considered it
i have also considered that we do not really exist
and we are only a figment of some being's imagination (long before i watched the matrix)
have you also considered this?
have you considered that your existense is only an imagination? that you are not real?
Christianity EtcRe: There Was A Tree In The Garden: We Were Not Neccasarily Made To Worship God by esere826(op): 6:09pm On Sep 29, 2013
noblefada: Firstly I'm trying to or will ever insult you, in as much as you need so much wisdom to be saved, however there are essential basics you need. I quoted a scripture that clearly tells us as xtian who God is, so when I question ur foundation its because that basic truth should be know.
Secondly you said logic because God is open to reasoning, Nope God has already finished speaking in Christ Jesus.
The bible clearly said Eve was deceived while Adam disobeyed and of course the serpent is the devil.
God finished speaking in christ jesus?
jeez!!
You may actually be right sha
it depends on what you mean by "finished speaking"

Wisdom to be saved?
from what or whom?
can u honestly answer that question?
what of if i am already saved (if you truely have reasoned what 'save' means)?
what if i am operating in a dimension you're yet to attain?
I mean it is written in the scripture that what some dont understand, they despise

Insult!!
if i told you that God says you be goat and quote scripture
who is doing the insulting
God or me?
I can't see God, but I can see who has spoken
remember what happened to John the Baptist?

I also clearly see that we might not be able to hold a conversation
however, i believe that i have planted a seed in you which will be needed someday
You might not even relate the harvest to me

If you're a xtian but don't believe God is a Spirit, the ur foundation is seriously wrong.
And u judge my foundation?
lol
(I wld usually not waste my time, but i feel a subtle need to speak in this instance)

Only the simple resort to simplistic and insulting statements when faced when reasoning

^^^ assuming that the tree and the snake were literal
..can u see the predicament that Eve must have passed through when the snake spoke with her and started questioning her?

If one is not grounded, when the testing comes one will fizzle out
she did not receive the message from God, but from Adam and she built her knowledge on this as the truth
so when she was questioned 'intelligently' by the snake she crumbled

if she had walked with God and questioned him rigorously
she would have been prepared for the snake

Do not avoid logic
God is open to reasoning
...this is my belief
