liloelawwal: longevity doesnt make sense to me.y do i ve to live so long??
Wat am i enjoyin dat i dnt want to let go?
i can only take it if dis world is devoid of evil, suffering n diseases
Right, I take it from your answer that your goal is for 'bliss'
in other words, if you can be anywhere where there is 'bliss'
then you're alright

Do u agree with me on this?

GeneralShepherd: How do you expect people to hold a meaningful discussion on an imaginary drug? We haven't finished dealing with our imaginary gods!
I think imaginations are good stimulating intellectual excercise o
offcourse, people that are suffering might find it hard to imagine further than their bellies
But thank God for you and I, ...we have food, and we can eat

besides, everything that is (both tangible and intangible)
is a product of someone's imagination
i am sure you're aware of this
Christianity EtcRe: What Choice Would You Take If Science Gives You The Oppurtunity To Live Forever? by esere826(op): 10:13am On Nov 22, 2013
I know that modern day xtians are quick to rebuke science's desire to defy death

..but just imagine for one minute, that science does find a way of preventing death by regenerating our tissues
-imagine that the drug has been tested successfully by someone who is now 1500 years old
-imagine that the drug is a limited edition, which for the next 80 years, can only be administered to no more than 3000 people globally

The question is:
1) would you take it?
2) Would you wait for your pastor to take it first before you do?
3) Would you rather die so that you will be with God in heaven?
3) Would you be in a hurry to wage jihad and take your life for what is on the other side?

grin Ahahahahah

Many years ago, i read about how the christian establishment in early times
fought against the adoption of pain killers for women during child birth
They believed that God's will was that women suffer during childbirth as a punishment for Eve's sin

...of course, that believe no longer holds water in mainstream xtian views
infact now from the pulpit, the desire for painless birth by women is supported wholesale
So you and your MOG are now quick to proclaim":
"may you give birth as easilly as the israelite women"

....continued

You’ve successfully navigated your way through a four-year degree. Congratulations! That is no small accomplishment. But now you’re embarking on a totally different program of learning – one that will last the rest of your life. It’s called “What am I here for?”

That may sound all spiritual and existential, but don’t let it throw you off. It just means that your challenge from here on is to find what you’re good at, and keep getting better and better at it.

An apology, by the way, on behalf of society. We are sorry if we led you to believe that attending university would land you a good job. That’s not actually true. A polytechnic college will do this – and the job opportunities available right now are fantastic. A good option for you might be to continue post-university studies at a polytechnic.

But your university education, at least at the bachelor of arts level, was never intended to land you a job. It was intended to make you a more complete thinker. It was intended to teach you how to absorb complex information and make reasoned arguments. It was, quite simply, intended to teach you how to learn. Those are skills that you’ll use in any field of work.

Open your mind to all sorts of job possibilities. Don’t be too proud to start out in the service industry, or where you might get your fingernails dirty. Talk to as many people as you can about their career paths. Go live overseas for a year or two. But never, ever, allow yourself to think you’ve wasted your time in university if you don’t land a job as an economist.

Meanwhile, be encouraged and stay positive. And yes, I will keep your letter on file. But my guess is that when a position in my economics group eventually opens up, you’ll no longer be available.

I saw this in Segun Adeniyi's column of thisday, and copied it diretly from the source. I dedicate it to fresh Nigerian graduates in Nigeria and the UK

Written by Todd Hircsh
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/economy/economy-lab/new-graduates-have-skills-not-fields/article14558219/

Dear Applicant: Thank you for your letter inquiring about positions in our economics department. At this time, we have no openings. However, I will keep your letter on file should an appropriate job become available.

At least, that’s what I am required to tell you. But here’s what I’d really like to say to you – and to every recent economics graduate who sends me the same letter.

First, I know it’s lousy for bachelor of arts grads looking for a job “in their field.” Twenty years ago, it was lousy for me too. It’s almost always lousy. In a way, it’s kind of supposed to be – a small rite of passage to welcome you into the working world. It’s sort of like being froshed.

But if I may, I would like to offer some advice.

Don’t be too fixated on landing a job “in your field.” The truth is, you don’t yet have a field. In university, you majored in economics, but that may or may not be your eventual field of professional work. The world is full of possibilities; limiting your search to an economist job is a terribly narrow way to start out.

You chose to study economics, which doesn’t necessarily imply that you’ll be an economist. Rather, it implies you have an aptitude for problem solving. You’re probably good at analyzing data. You can see different sides of an argument. And I’ll bet you’re excellent at finding solutions to problems. These are essential skills required in hundreds of rewarding (and lucrative) fields of professional employment.

Your ultimate field may actually be in sales for a biotech firm. It may be analyzing crime statistics for the city police. It may even be a rock star (just ask Mick Jagger). The world is full of “fields.”

What you’re facing is a common problem: BA graduates confuse their major area of study with what they expect to be their eventual careers. It doesn’t matter if it’s a degree in history, film studies, sociology, or comparative feminist literature.
Christianity EtcSome Interesting 'Facts' Sorrounding Noah's Flood by esere826(op):
I enjoy working with spreadsheets, so i had the chance to do some calculations on some bible ideas that i have nursed for a long time now.
You can refer to the book of Genesis chapter 1 to 7 to follow my thougths
Here are some interesting calculated facts surrounding the flood:

1) Metusalleh died in the year of the flood at the age of 969, while Noah his grandson was 600 yrs old (read genesis5:25-28, genesis 7: 6)
That means that it is possible that the flood killed Metusalah or that he died days or months before the flood

2) If Metusalleh was buried in the earth as against being buried in a cave or cremated, that means his decomposing body would have been washed up by the waters of the flood and probably feasted on by fishes

3) Noahs brothers and sisters also died in the flood (see Genesis 5: 30). The flood probably killed his mum if she were still alive

PoliticsRe: Saints, Sinners And The Devils: Understanding Stella Oduah, Ribadu Et Al by esere826(op): 9:39am On Nov 20, 2013
So the devils in Yaradua's team brought out their argument to push sinner Ribadu out into the cold
the devils used the media houses to show that Ribadu was also corrupt in his own special way
..afterall, why did he not go after Obasanjo (can you imagine the silly argument)

the puritan public bought into it, hook, line and sinker. They felt that Ribadu was not a saint, and so deserved to be disgraced

And that was how the devils and saints together killed the EFCC till this day
what we now have is a small minded boy heading the efcc who ticks himself good for catching small thieves before they become big thieves
PoliticsRe: Saints, Sinners And The Devils: Understanding Stella Oduah, Ribadu Et Al by esere826(op):
Now, let us use Ribadu as a case study.

When Yaradua wanted to get rid of him, his (yarduas) government provided enough 'legitimate skeletons' to do so
They included :

1) Ribadu was required to go to a certain college in line with his promotion
.. although this appeared true, but I am certain that if he was in their good books, they wont have required this to happen

2) Ribadu's promotion was rescinded as it was determined that his promotion was irregular. To show that the government was
not being biased, it also demoted some other officers including Yaradua aide
...common, ....Yaradua's own brother was promoted above his superiors in the army to become Obasanjo's deputy

3) Ribadu was accused of doing selective hounding
..Yep,...but this argument was extremely simplistic. I will also give a simplistic response to it. A mango tree that is full of ripe juicy fruits will definitely complain of selective harvesting by the little boy that ispicking its fruits.
You cant get the same complaint from an old mango tree that produces maybe one or two fruits

am talkin: Yes
I'll answer this question when I am freer as it would be easier to use diagrams to demonstrate how it is done

If you can try this while waiting for the visuals and easier explanation:
-highlight the cells that you want to put in a table
-In your Excel ribbon, go to "HOME"
-in the HOME tab you'll see FONT (2nd from the left in Excel 2007)
-In the FONT section u'll see these boxes: B, I, U
-After the U box, you'll see another box with a cube shaped design inside
-click on its dropdown and you'll see different types of tables
-you can click on anyof the tables to put your data into a 'table'
Christianity EtcRe: The Goal Of The Gospel by esere826: 10:24am On Nov 17, 2013
@OP

I like the way you worked on narrowing or rather pinpointing the raison d' etre of the gospel. It was great
You said:
“Gospel” is “good news” in Greek language. What is the good news about? It is simply about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Jesus Christ has a lot of significance. The significance has to do with who Jesus really is. The effectiveness of the gospel depends on clear understanding of who Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, the Church has not fully understood who Jesus really is.
The last bit sounds too much like a cliche: "Unfortunately, the Church has not fully understood who Jesus really is"
Used by some MOG's in criticizing others beliefs while elevating theirs
Not bad,as long as you really own/have the understanding

Can you help in providing a list of the unfortunate and unfull understandings that the church has so that we can avoid them and grow better.

Thanks

Abraham did not say, that:
well, it was Gods business to deal with the birds

nope,.. he jealously protected his offering for the one it was meant for

The scriptures say that he chased the birds of prey awaay for as long as he could

Christianity EtcProtecting Your Offering: Lessons From Father Abraham by esere826(op): 1:41pm On Nov 14, 2013
Genesis 15: 11 ...The birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.
Read the entire Genesis 15

I have heard it said by quite a number of people that they dont care what their money is used for
as long as they have already 'given it' to God

I dont feel very comfortable with this, because IMO it speaks volumes of the 'magical' mindset folks are beginning to develop
a mindset borne not out of love of God, but out of lust for the tangible blessings of God (Referenced from TD jakes)

As I meditated on this, I remembered the story of Abraham who we love to recall especially in the Tithing message
Abraham was to make a covenant with God, he got some animals and laid them out as a 'sacrifice"
while he waited for God to show up

i am very aware about those,

I'll give an example of PPI in UK
I think its only some 2 or 3 banks that are doing it in the entire world

Adverts for jobs in PPI range from 150 per dayto about 600 GBP per day

-First, u cant claim experience in PPI except u've worked in any of those 3 banks
-2nd as the compensation gets higher, the viewyou shld have can hardly be faked except someone doing it coaches u
-so yes it involves using tools like ssrs, ssis, ssas, Excel, Access, VBA,.... and skills such as analytical ability and complaint handling E2E, but trust me..... who no go, no know

It is more of case studies that are thaught which gives one a big pix view

I am presently looking into it 'casually'

Now imagine this,

someone reads about NL from books and then goes for an interview organised by Seun for an NL mod position
Seun asks him how does he react online when a troll pastes an advert on his thread?

You can see from the question above that if u never get into that circumstance before e go hard to answer
If you say that you report to MOD, and Seun asks u how long does it usually take MOD to reply,...what reply u wan give?

But if Seun ask me,......I go give am expert reply
i go tell am say the MOD dey craze, say im no gree answer
that i then went ahead to bash the MOD for being an Igbo, and got banned for dat

Seun will immediately know that I am an expert Nairalander like Ishilove grin

^^^
Only extremely crafty people can create a make-belief work experience no matter the theory wen dem know
HR are more likely to fall for sweet talk cos HR have no real experience of the job,
someone in the hands-on operational role would easily spot the fake candidate who has no experience but is making it up
someone who goes for a lot of interviews on a specific role will soon be able to talk her way successfully into a job
(if she doesnt give up on the way) ..... this is because she has developed what i call virtual competence -by closing the gaps
..interstingly, this is the same learning process that those with actual work experience go through

well, supply always seeks to meet demand

if all coys in nigeria (including the gov) starts hiring based on skills only
I am quite sure that many candidates will abandon the search for certificates

in such a scenario, the new challenge for recruiters will be the quickest and cheapest way to ascertain applicants skill level
in such a world, I guess this will in turn soon lead to certifications to measure peoples skills
Christianity EtcRe: Your Motive For Paying Tithe by esere826: 1:30pm On Nov 10, 2013
tpacalipse: I believed in it and I paid before. Then I stopped believing in it and refused to pay. Guess what? I have never seen any changes in anything. I progress gradually just as it used to be when I was paying. Though I still pay some kinds of money in church these days, even sometimes if what I pay is 10 percent of my income, I will never call it tithe.

As for the motive? Look at it this way; I attend my church every time I have to be there and these are the things I enjoy:
1. The church runs on generator for power all the times, and this cost money.
2. It costs money to get the church premises cleaned all the time.
3. It costs money to maintain a lot of gadgets in the church
4. It costs money to pay salaries to those who work at the church, e.g. the guy who plays the keyboard and the priests.
5. It costs money to do a little charity work.

These are my motives for paying some money at church.

Now, I do not see my God as a money doubler!
Truely, I say to you
yo have seen God and have obeyed his commandments
and are indeed blessed for having such an understanding

...a hospital is:
-a specific location that is staffed with appropriate medical equiptment
-staffed with appropriate medical human resources
-posess medical processes
-A semi-open system that allows the controlled exchange of medical and emotional resources (human and material) with other open systems
-its goal is to manage a condition or heal a condition. (in the the future, it might include administering death in a controlled clinical environment)
-and less importantly labelled as a hospital

.....your house can act as a hospital if it meets these condition (apart from regulatory requirements)
depending on your cash level and the type of ailment, you can set up a mini hospital at ur house
