Unknown to these prospective employees, a lot happens behind the glitz and glamor of these corporate offices that will make one shudder in disbelief that these seeming eldorado is capable of generating such intense intrigues, scheming, blackmail, manipulations & other Machiavellian unscrupulousness as to render what happens in the political arena a child’s play.
As expected in every human organization, there must be leadership to provide strategic direction and focus to enable the realization of corporate aims and objectives. But most times, the processes leading to the emergence of these leaders leaves much to be desired; they are structured in such a way as to make beneficiaries of coveted positions always looking behind their shoulders and seeing everyone as threats.
And so to get into the top management echelon, managers position themselves to enhance their chances of occupying strategic positions. 4. *April 27, 2026, 7:03am*: Lohina passed. “Maiduguri camp gave you to me and Maiduguri camp took you from me.”

*The bigger questions this raises — and NYSC must answer:*

1. *What was the illness?*
Meningitis, malaria, typhoid, Lassa fever are endemic in the North East. Maiduguri camp is hot, crowded, stressful. If it was something contagious, what’s the protocol for other corps members? NYSC hasn’t said.

2. *What was the medical response?*
Pamela said they were both taken to the _same hospital_. Was that the camp clinic or UMTH? Camp clinics are notoriously under-equipped — paracetamol, drips, and prayers. For a condition that kills in 6 days, was she referred fast enough? Was there a doctor on call 24/7?

3. *Why did Pamela also fall ill?*
Two roommates sick at once points to: food poisoning, shared water, heat exhaustion, or infectious disease. If it’s the camp environment, 1,500+ other corps members are at risk right now.

4. *NYSC’s silence*
As of now, no official NYSC statement. No name confirmation, no cause of death, no condolence. Families find out on Facebook. That’s not good enough. In 2022, a corps member died in Kano camp and NYSC took 4 days to respond. We can’t keep doing this.

*To Augustine Pamela — and every corps member reading this:*

Pamela, you did more than a friend. You were her sister in those 6 days. “She would hold my hands firmly and refuse to let go, like she is trying her best to hold unto life itself.” God sees you. *To serving corps members in Maiduguri and other camps:*
1. *Hydrate like your life depends on it* — because it does. Borno heat + drills = dehydration kills fast.
2. *Don’t “tough it out”* — Fever, vomiting, weakness? Report to clinic _immediately_. Day 1, not Day 3.
3. *Buddy system*: If your bunkmate is sick, tell officials and watch them. Don’t nurse alone.
4. *Ask questions*: What hospital does your camp use? Is there an ambulance? Is there a doctor after 6pm?

*NYSC, NCDC, Federal Ministry of Health — we need answers:*

1. *Release a statement*: Confirm Lohina’s full name, cause of death, and steps taken.
2. *Audit Maiduguri camp medical facility*: Staffing, drugs, referral protocol, ambulance readiness.
3. *Test the camp*: If two people fell ill, check water source, food, dorms. Prevent an outbreak.
4. *Compensate the family*: Not just condolences. She died serving Nigeria. That means something.
