funmisticqueen: don't get your panties in a twist, aussies have wierd customs and culture, what may fly here, wont fly there. don't use that your mentality to color your view. You end up being just as myopic. whatever made an edo boy or his parents run far far far away to Australia must be very strong. if you cant make it in your country, then you are not a truly successful person. What a myopic way of reasoning. Sometimes I wonder why some ladies reason in ways that bring disrepute to the entire female gender. Only someone of muddy calibre will say if you can't make it in your country then you aren't truly successful, that is so wrong on many levels. Using that same gaseous logic, then Zuckerberg and Bezos aren't truly successful because they aren't indigenous Americans. People go to different places for different reasons. Especially considering the fact that Nigeria as a country has very limited opportunities. |

Indeed, but addressing the issue of misinforming the public, I like to reiterate that your assertions are not "fact". Please, anyone who wants to go into the entertainment industry, especially modelling, shouldn't be misinformed by elements who try to besmirch the industry and the people in it. Modelling has nothing to do with homosexuality, if you are gay, good, if you aren't, fine, but it isn't even a factor. So please pursue your goal without apprehension or feelings of sexual insecurity. |

Because that industry is being run by a bunch of gays. Don't be ridiculous, nobody will ask anyone to change orientation. And the assumption that the industry run by "a bunch of gays" is erroneous. |

KVN1: ALAN TURING invented the Turing Machine that cracked the German Enigma Code. Cracking the code helped save over 14 million people during the war and made the allied forces to win the war. The Turing Machine later became what we know today as COMPUTER. . When the war ended, the British government rewarded Alan Turing with death sentence after he was accused of being HOMOSEXUAL. They eventually killed him even before the time of his sentence reached. . The founder of computer science and the inventor of AI (Artificial Intelligence) was erased from history and was killed after helping to save the world and giving us the beautiful life we enjoy now. . The British government has legalized gay marriage but there is no significant recognition for Prof. Alan Turing. . I still ask, how do we define what is good and what is bad? Alan Turin was never sentenced to death. Yes, he was prosecuted for homosexuality, and then given a choice between imprisonment and a hormonal treatment that was meant to render him impotent, he chose hormonal therapy. He died of cyanide poisoning, probably from inhalation of laboratory toxins. On the lighter note, I think he should be given more recognition for his role in the development of humankind. This just goes to show how we have lost many talents because of pointless discriminations and religious zealotry. |

lebuhsi: well, okay think about the situation in zamfara for instance, i believe it's more of a socioeconomic problem rather than a full scale jihadi rave....sending more policemen or military men is sending the wrong signals...all this bandits want is to eat...rather than straight up murder them, we might as well had tried other 'reasonable' solutions first...all am saying is military solutions to problem might no be as effective as we think...but it can work in pari passu with political solutions. Yes, maybe we can negotiate with truly marginalized groups like those in Zamfara, that is, if they have genuine grievances that prompted them to pick up arms against the state in the first place. But BH and ISWAP are fundamentalists, they believe in the gaseous idea of a theocratic state that disregards the sovereignty and constitution of Nigeria, there can be no negotiation with them. |

olapluto: Classic bandits. A little seriousness and coordinated attacks will reverse their gains. Between now and the elections BHT will get new and improved propaganda spreaders. Willing and ready to attack the army and it's efforts. Yes, I agree. Coordinated counter-offensives by the army will most probably reverse most of the gains made, especially with help from the airforce. But it simply continues the back and forth cycle. They will try again and again. What if by chance ISWAP start digging underground bunkers in the captured territory similar to ISIS?, the impact of the airforce will become redundant. As for the propaganda part, the military is making it easy for propaganda to germinate. The men on the field have made serious efforts, but when the government and even the top brass are inept, there is little that can be done. If the boys on field are well trained and supported with all the toys and intel they need, no amount of propaganda will make BH or ISWAP look good. |

olapluto: Baga is a wake up call. I still dont think much has changed. Reportage has certainly become more political, but BHT have been defeated beyond them having capacity to hold down any town for more than 48 hours. For now, I don't think the idea is to hold down territory, they are not interested in that. What they want is the weapons, which they seem to be acquiring with ease from the army and from other sources. The current approach by the terrorists serves two purposes; to strip the army of weapons and morale, and to bolster their own armoury. When the time comes, and that would be soon, they will launch an all out offensive with intent to dislodge the entire military apparatus in the area and secure territory. It will be so swift and ruthless that even Abuja will break into sweats. They have the initiative and they seem to know the terrain better. It isn't a complicated strategy, Boko Haram did the same in 2014. |

A wise guy once told me, 'take out all the bad guys, then new bad guys will come take their place'....we can't just think if we kill them all the problem would just simply go away do we?...the Americans have been in Afghanistan for over a decade now..and surprise, surprise....the Taliban still controls about 60% of the country!!....now, how is it that the strongest country in the world with all the fancy toys.....ucavs, tactical and or technical superiority can not successfully eliminate a bunch of AK wielding fanatics?.....it's because it is counter insurgency!!!....gun wielding foreigners ''imposing themselves'' on the local pop. you can never win this kind of war militarily, Bleep it!!....trump just figured that out....that's why he's pulling the boys and girls out of syria....you can all him all you want but that, my friends is the best decision he has ever made!...the U.S.A isn't winning the war on terror, the're only making new enemies....the sooner they'd pulled out of there the better.....the only way to really win the COIN war is politically, compromise.....no matter how bleeped up someone is....you'd still sort for a peace of mind...if there's peace...economic activities would flourish and if that happens they'll be prosperity for the local community...if there's that..then they'll certainly be peace....I'm very disappointed to say that the only solutions we hear from top brass are military solutions only...that wouldn't get us anywhere it would only extend the underlaying problem...that there was and still is poverty and neglect in the north east...and if we don't solve this problem or first things first, think there's a problem...and continue to treat the enemy as shit....then am sorry to say this folks, they'll still be insurgents in the north east hundreds of years to come, like in Afghanistan..the super tucs, jf-17s and whatever badass toys we can afford to buy won't save us we should learn from the mistake. i guess it's alright to say, YOU CAN NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORISTS!!! I must say I am shocked at this comment. Though I respect it as your personal opinion. The mere suggestion of seeking "political compromise" with Islamic extremists is unimaginable. On what basis are we to negotiate with terrorists?, these people are not even pursuing genuine and progressive ambitions, what they seek is a caliphate, and the basic instrument of a caliphate is military expansionism, giving them such a compromise today is tantamount to encouraging future rebellion. So are we to give the entire country, in fact, the entire region to a bunch of crazed ragamuffins? If everyone thinks they can make trouble and get settled by the government, then we aren't even safe anymore. What about the thousands of soldiers that have shed their blood to protect every inch of territory we have in that region today?. The problem is that the Nigerian government is not serious about putting an end to the Boko Haram question, if we procure very sophisticated firepower from the appropriate quarters and train our men properly, we will pummel these miscreants into submission through sheer military force. |

jakeporeshenko: FFS what’s going on in Baga Well, there will soon be an army press briefing on the matter. But from what we hear, if a base comprising the MNJTF was seized along with the adjoining SBS holdfast, then the next few months will really be tough. Those ISWAP guys are not idiots, they know that the military will soon come and dislodge them from that place due to how strategically important it is, they probably have no plan for holding on to the place for long. The goal is to cannibalize the armoury and ship away the weapons before the army comes knocking. The army will probably come back to recapture the base easily, only a skeletal number of fighters will remain there to keep up the charade of battle. |

When I say "enemies within", I am not talking about low level saboteurs (though they play a very disruptive role), I am talking about forces in high places, even within the military.... Rednecks. I do not enjoy laying such strong accusations, but that is the truth.
In a country where we have some military officers who are, to be frank, guilty of high treason, then how do you expect to win a war?
When soldiers are maneuvered to their deaths based on highly gaseous "order from above", even when the situation is glaringly at the disadvantage of our forces, when reinforcement are deliberately delayed, when seemingly disorganized BH/ISWAP fighters miraculously know where and when to strike, when despite calls by the men on the field to move in and smash the key elements of the terrorists in their known hideouts, they are told to stand down. It tells you something is fishy.
Hopefully, we can accelerate plans to acquire more sophisticated firepower, because we are in for a long thing. |

It is indeed a sad state of affairs when we start contemplating involving mercenaries at this stage, after 5 years. It was forgivable 3 years ago, when the BH offensive caught us pants down and the only option for shielding our balls from international shame was to hire the skilled and expensive hands of South African mercenaries. But now?, is it that these people are so competent and dynamic that our DHQ cannot figure out a way to break them?. But then again, the more it drags on, the more it becomes more multifaceted; enemies inside and outside. Bro, as long as there are enemies inside, even if we hire the seal team six or spetnaz, the problem will continue. |

Letter of Request On behalf of all Nigeria Youth Corps I write to solicit for your approval in deployment of all corps member to Northern part of Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari please ask NYSC DG To Deploy Corp Members To Fight Boko Haram. Your Excellency sir, meet with the DG NYSC in order to send NYSC Corp members to North East region to support the Military in fighting Boko Haram. The Nigerian Military has been over powered by the deadly Militia terrorist group and thus the need for extra support. The Corp members should be empowered with sophisticated weapon to withstand the fire power of Boko Haram.

We shall appreciate if our request is honour.

Another one bites the dust.
Simple, explanation or reasoning would have kept this he-goat alive.
But no! Force. Force. Force. If it was a civilian that was killed, I am sure you won't say this, but because it's a military officer, then he must have been the aggressor right? Were you there to know who or what caused the trouble in the first place?. The policeman had no right to discharge his firearm at people who were clearly unarmed. Now, if the nearest airforce cantonment decides to dole out martial justice on the policeman and his cohorts, they will say military people are brutal. A mere sergeant being so trigger happy as to start spraying bullets anyhow, that is not right. |

I also noticed that some times, the reason why these men behave the way they do is because civilians fail to treat them with basic human dignity. Even as a normal civilian, if a fellow civilian gives you rubbish attitude, won't you deck the guy a few hot slaps to reboot his brain?, how much more men who are trained with military malice. Abeg, the picture guys should spice this place up, it's getting rather uninteresting here. |

BabaOwen: EXCLUSIVE: 190 Policemen Mobilised For Boko Haram ‘Without Training’ Escape From Police Force
“Those are the names of policemen who were mobilised without any serious training to be sent to the front lines to fight Boko Haram who ran away,” said the source. “Nearly all of them are southerners and Christians; 96% of the total number mobilised are southerners and Christians too. This has raised so much dust and outcry in the NPF.”
At least 190 policemen being mobilized for the war against Boko Haram have fled for their lives. Worried by the development, the Force Headquarters, Abuja, has ordered for the arrest and prosecution of the officers. A security source familiar with the matter told SaharaReporters that the said officers were to be sent to battle without appropriate training, and also observed that nearly all of them are southerners and Christians. “Those are the names of policemen who were mobilised without any serious training to be sent to the front lines to fight Boko Haram who ran away,” said the source. “Nearly all of them are southerners and Christians; 96% of the total number mobilised are southerners and Christians too. This has raised so much dust and outcry in the NPF.” However, the Police presented a slightly different account of the incident. A ‘Police Wireless Message’ sent from the Force Headquarters to MOPOLS in 22 states, which was seen by SaharaReporters, said the policemen were being trained at the Special Forces school, Buni-Yadi, where they absconded from. The MOPOLS were urged to treat the matter as “very important”. The 190 officers may have been intended to be part of the group of 2,000, which the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, deployed to the North East late last month to fight Boko Haram. Announcing the deployment, Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, had said the policemen comprised personnel of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) and Counter Terrorism Units (CTU), as well as those of the Force and the Sniffer Dog Sections. Moshood also stated that the new deployment was consistent with Section 4 of the Police Act and Regulations. The section, he said, “specifies the general duties of the Nigeria Police Force as follows: The police shall be employed for the prevention and detection of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the preservation of law and order, the protection of life and property and the due enforcement of all laws and regulations with which they are directly charged, and shall perform such military duties within or outside Nigeria as may be required of them by or under the authority of this or any other Act”. “The deployment is also to support the strength of the military to defeat the Boko Haram insurgency,” he added. “Before now, the Nigeria Police Force has on ground 47 PMF units (63 X 47 = 2961) in Borno State in addition to the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Borno State. Twenty-six units (63 X 26 = 1638) on ground in Yobe State in addition to the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Yobe State. “Eighteen units (63 X 18 = 1134) on ground in Adamawa State in addition to the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Adamawa State.”

The US never thought that arming Mujahideens against the Soviets in Afghanistan would lead to so much problems today, neither did anyone think removing Ghadaffi would lead to a crisis that is affecting Africa and Europe. Now, the US pulling out of Syria is going to trigger another cascade of events. If Nigeria is still looking at this issue as a local insurgency, then let me say we are in for a long thing. When we begin to see another side of the Fulani militants, ISWAP, and a weaponized Shiite force, maybe we will begin to take things seriously. Sorry for derailing o,just couldn't pass up an opportunity to vent my frustration at the state of affairs. |
