doziex: Gentle men, I have led this argument for PMCs as military advisers for about a decade now. If you are not at the war front in the north east as we speak, you can save the insults. I see iswap' assault on northern Nigeria, the same vein as ISIS assault on the Iraqi and Syrian armies.
Both armies are better than NA, were nearly overrun but for the infusion of mercenaries and military advisors with NATO then eventually Russian air forces in tow.
US green berets and Iranian quds force and eventually Russian spetznaz.
So since nigeria is not as important to the powers that be as Iraq, us and U.K. May do training, but nothing more. They would Not even approach what the French routinely does for her west African allies.
This were a reputable PMC comes into play as embedded advisors. To properly deploy and utilize the tools that we have in the most effective way.
This could be STTEP or Eric prince blackwater
NA would benefit greatly from training and advice in the field Nothing wrong with bringing in mercenaries to train specialized units of the army. I think STTEP trained a special taskforce in 2014, that unit was very crucial to the famous 6 weeks offensive. I think they used South African made Reva MRAPs and were very feared. We haven't heard of them these past years. We can replicate that on a more massive scale, what these guys need is proper training. Bring in the mercenaries, let them train for 8 months and then equip them, we will see results. But allowing mercenaries fight is what may not go down well with people, especially since this government wasn't in support of it when it was introduced. They will certainly be reluctant to call in mercenaries. |

jakeporeshenko: Exactly. In a sane world $35 million should mean nothing to the Nigerian economy, we should be able to purchase 25 of these helicopters or even the Mi-28 at a go in multi billion dollar contracts, but in Nigeria the military isn’t given that level of importance of priority. I think that if the government wants to embark on an all round rearmament programme, they will do it without hassle. Heck, the executive pulled out $1bln for weapon purchase last year and NASS couldn't do shiit. I just hope this Buhari performs better in his second term, because, like you said and like we have been saying for years, there is nothing wrong in investing $3bln per year on our military for the next 10 years. We can afford it, so why not. Another thing is, I don't understand why the military brass cannot go in front of NASS and beg for funding. It's not their job to be keeping malice with Saraki or Dogara, it's the job of the politicians. |

bidexiii: MILITARY ISSUES ARE NOT ALL COMERS AFFAIRS
1. The Nigerian Army (NA) has observed with concern the recent negative reportage and criticisms of her activities in the social and mainstream media especially as it relates to equipment and attacks on troops’ locations in Operation LAFIYA DOLE. It is further observed that some individuals and groups in and outside Nigeria have been making false claims and allegations that Boko Haram terrorists are better equipped than the Armed Forces Nigeria (AFN). Nothing can be further from the truth as the AFN have universally accepted doctrines, are better trained, equipped and well -motivated. Therefore, there is no basis for comparison between the Nigerian soldier and the Boko Haram terrorists. Whereas the Nigerian military system is voluntary and enlistment or commission are borne out of patriotism and love for the country, the terrorists on the other hand are indoctrinated and in most cases coerced to take up arms against the state and humanity.
2. These issues are further exacerbated by a section of the media, possibly at the behest of some disgruntled elements in the society. The attacks on NA troops are not as a result of superior arms or equipment, rather it is due to the use of psychological weapon which is as good as any lethal weapons. The psychological attacks have been further aggravated by some unpatriotic elements in the society that take joy and pride in propagating such falsehoods.
3. It is surprising that some Nigerians, for whatever mundane reasons, would compare a group of confused and misguided elements operating under the influence of drugs and warped ideologies to NA troops. It will be necessary to observe that unlike the NA, the terrorists live amongst the populace and used that opportunity to spread their propaganda. NA fights according to set down ROE while the BHT does not. Also, while the NA seeks to protect lives and properties, the renegades seek to destroy same.
4. Our conviction is that these negative comments about the NA are aimed at demoralizing the troops and breaking its cohesion. They are borne out of selfish, political and unpatriotic reasons with a view to bringing down the government of the day. We totally condemn and reject the insinuations that the BHT are better equipped than the NA. Rather, we are bold to say and re-affirm that NA troops are better trained, equipped and better motivated than the rag-tag BHT. Indeed, there are no basis for comparison.
5. It should be realized that the use of psychological attack on the NA is as potent as the use of arms and ammunition. Unfortunately, the psychological attacks are not being waged against the NA by the BHT alone but also by some misguided elements both within and out of the country, either under the guise of humanitarian and Human Rights concerns or low morale. Far from that, most of these false allegations were based on selfish and mostly political reasons by unpatriotic elements. Despite extant rules, these group of persons discuss highly classified military issues which they are mostly ignorant about on various media platforms. Indeed, those who should know better are the ones perpetrating these acts. The psychological effects of spreading misinformation and fake news are grievous and inimical to national security and should not be allowed to continue. Conduct prejudicial to military discipline and cowardice as being exhibited by few misguided soldiers should not be misconstrued as a failure on the part of the military or the government.
6. Military equipment and welfare are known issues in the NA, and when such problems are observed, appropriate steps are taken to remedy them. The President has provided for NA in terms of welfare and equipment. Nigerians are enjoined to note that military issues are not all comers’ affairs. The Nigerian Army will always address its challenges and will take charge of any issue without any external prompting, criticism or condemnation. We will remain responsive and professional in the discharge of our constitutional responsibilities.
7. You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium.
8. Thank you for your kind cooperation.
SANI KUKASHEKA USMAN Brigadier General Director Army Public Relations 3rd January 2019 It seems the NA doesn't understand the position of things, or maybe they do but are simply trying to amuse us for the festive period. The terrorists we are fighting are already in control of the narrative, and all these forceful and emotional press releases will only be seen as what they are; thinly veiled attempts to whitewash a corrupt and decadent military. They keep calling BH/ISWAP ragtag drug addicts, but those same people are slapping you silly and collecing bases from you with frightening ease,as if they are collecting biscuit . What does that say about you who are not drug addicts?. It shows that you aren't taking this issue seriously and that is disappointing for me as a Nigerian. It is not wrong for citizens to demand results from the military, and the longer this war drags on, the more they should expect interference from civilians and "all comers". Before this war, most Nigerian believed they had the best military in Africa and one of the best in the world. Some will even brag(in those moments when they are nursing a bottle of gulder and feeling the warmth of hot pepper soup seeping through their belly ), that the US can't defeat us in a war of attrition. That was how high we placed our military. But now, people don't seem to understand what is going on, the situation isn't really encouraging anymore. Yet you expect people to sing your praise, for what?. The NA should put their house in order and find a permanent solution to this BH question, instead of all these bogus press releases and verbose articles. If the army sits up and does its job in a spectacular manner, even the most hardened critics will have nothing to smear the organization with. If they try, people will be the ones to stand up and tell them to shut up. For example, look at the Operation Python Dance that has commenced nationwide, when people are expecting to hear concrete actions against BH from the army, they are busy launching a pointless military exercise this close to the general elections, an exercise that will further feed the narrative of the opposition and dissident groups like IPOB. With such actions, the army simply comes across as being heavily politicized. Nobody will respect you if you don't give them a reason to, and at the end of the day, they will sabotage the little good you want to do because they don't trust you |

ugo4u: I watched an encounter between Nigerian troops and Bokoharam guys uploaded on YouTube, honestly speaking it was quite embarrassing how those guys where practically shooting aimlessly and shouting "e never die, e never die" !! in the video their coordination was zero, compactness zero. if you read the comments some foreign guys where making on that video ehh!!! shame will not allow you mention they're Nigerian soldiers. I'll try and post the link here later I think I have watched that video. They were clustered against a deep wedge along the roadside and some were trying to shoot across the road, while others were shooting in the opposite direction. I think the BH guys had them surrounded. One was even almost lying on his back while shooting, even the guy who was filming sef he was supposed to be engaging the attackers too. "That one don die?", "E never die, e never die!" . Disgrace. |

Odunayaw: I remember its a requirement to have a SSCE to get in the Army (but we know how bad "miracle centres" has tarnished the credibility) It is not just miracle centres alone sef, what about the "big men" in the military, who just "work" all of their acquaintances into the military, both qualified and unqualified. You see a lot of our hausa brothers who didn't even attend primary school, wielding rifles at army checkpoints. Of course, it cuts across tribes, but it's majorly from one section due to their population in the armed forces. Anyway, I think for Nigeria, and with the current failed state of our educational system, SSCE isn't even suitable for the military anymore. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by EVarn(m): 11:53am On Jan 03, 2019 |
Odunayaw: If our public schools (where most people pass through) were up to scratch I see no reason why any SSCE holder shouldn't be Able to grasp military training (and that's not saying our soldiers don't)
That said, education is not the problem. In the SA Bush war they had a battalion made of predominantly bushmen (31 Bn) and I doubt there has risen any COIN effective unit as them on the continent
I don't know if its the training approach or caliber of instructors but I know there's no where in Top armies that a grunt needs more than his high school certificate to get in the military You do have a point. But then again, you'd be surprised how many of our men don't even have that ordinary SSCE. My thinking is, education instills some sort of base values that serves as foundation for any sort of future training. It is easier for an educated person to grasp the concept of rules of engagement, hierarchy, and force discipline than a person who doesn't even have a SSCE certificate. The Bush warriors you mentioned were understandably fighting for a specific objective, they were homogenous and of course, had a pre-existing form of martial training and discipline. However I think I agree that it is the calibre of training. They just train soldiers on endurance and stamina. Archaic forms of training as if we are still in WW2. These guys hardly know how to fight in units or how to fight under duress. Weapons training is shoddy, someone posted a videos here recently where a soldier was firing at close range, and he had to fire four times before hitting his target,I mean, his mark was practically squatting in front of his barrel, yet he couldn't hit him. |

Stephandeswardt: This ISWAP faction is a bit too tactical, not to be getting outside help........to me, the army brass is a bit laid back, like the soldiers are expendable puns.....i also think, the army brass needs to stop the idea of mass production, and put more emphasis on the quality of each soldier passing out...... Personally, I think a B.Sc. or HND(at worst OND) should be prerequisite for recruitment into the military. A large proportion of the Nigerian armed forces is made up of uneducated or under-educated people. Recruitment is skewed to favour some sections of the country, how then can we expect a professional body?. I agree with you, quality should be a priority. Only a person who has passed through the semi-regimented process that the Nigerian educational system provides(Primary, Secondary and Tertiary) will be able to easily retain military training and discipline. |

BabaOwen: I will rather die than joining the Nigerian army. I don see the Nigerian army abandoning one of their personnel that has bullets stuck in his body, though he was treated but the place was not fully healed cause the bullet was still stuck there...make I cut long story sha, I was part of the guys that took him to a village close to ijebu Igbo where this bullets was removed. It happened in early 2015, he was shot in 2014 while fighting boko haram... I saw the terrible condition the guy was in with my korokoro eyes. Soldiers that the Nigerian army declare as MIA, I swear bro those MIA soldiers family didn't spend up to 3 months before they were kicked out of the barracks with just their properties, no compensation no nothing. This was between 2014 and 2015 o, I met a guy last year, his dad was also said to be MIA by the Nigerian army, since 2014 till now, one kobo never reach the family hand. The guy don travel go SA sha, he is from obudu in cross river.
WO!! Story plenty... Joining the Nigerian army especially as a recruit is just a waste of time/life Well, I think you will discover that many of us here can say we have either witnessed military brutality or even been brutalized in one form or another. We are all Nigerians, and we know that our armed forces lack discipline and professionalism. So believe me when I say I know where you are coming from. I remember displaying madness for some SARS officers , quite recently, I was so angry that I kept screaming "if you don't shoot me, then you are a bastard" The kind of anger that makes you start speaking pidgin, yoruba and queen's english at the same time I never thought I could be so angry as to throw caution to the wind and confront gun welding men, even me sef surprise. Later when I was thinking about the whole scene, I discovered that it was just anger and frustration, that doesn't say I should hate the entire organization because I personally know quite a number of good officers among them. The professional ones are usually of top rank, which signifies that it's a problem of recruitment and training. So my point is, I understand if you detest the whole system out of experience, but always keep in mind that there are good men among them, a lot of good men sef. Heck, there are over a hundred thousand military personnel in Nigeria, how many have you or I personally seen to warrant a blanket appraisal of the entire force?, some of us who come from military families and visit the officers' mess and military golf courses occasionally will understand what I am saying(or those who grew up in the barracks). You will see soldiers who play football and complain about the government like any other civilian. Its a pity because from your profile pix, I could have pegged you down for special forces material, now all that muscle is wasted Anyway, the system is shiit, but it isn't the fault of those who are dying to protect us, that is why we should always consider those people and repay their sacrifice with our support. |

BabaOwen: Army Declares Nigerian Doctor, Perry Brimah, Wanted For Allegedly Raising Funds To Feed Troops
The Nigerian Army has declared wanted Dr. Perry Brimah, a Nigerian in Diaspora for allegedly launching a global fundraising scheme aimed at generating money to provide food for troops in the North East.
In a statement released this morning, the Army says the fundraising is fraudulent as the Nigerian soldiers sent to prosecute the war against Boko Haram in the North East, do not lack food nor logistics. The Army says it is working with INTERPOL to also declare him wanted.
The Army called on Nigerians to come forward with information on how to track Brimah. Read the statement below
The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a fraudulent and criminal fund raising by one Doctor Perry Brimah, a Nigerian in diaspora, tagged “Global Campaign To Provide Food For Nigerian Soldiers Fighting Boko Haram”. The criminal embarked on this fund raising venture ostensibly to defraud unsuspecting members of the public especially the international community to fund subversive activities and personal life style. The criminal is using the following contact points for the fund raising;
https://www.gofundme.com/feed-nigerian-soldiers/ info @ ENDS.ng Tel: +1-929-427-5305; Whatsapp: +234-903-420-3031.
We wish to state that the Nigerian soldiers deployed in the North East or elsewhere, neither lack logistics nor food as the fraudster wants unsuspecting members of the public to believe. The Nigerian Army never faltered in providing necessary logistics to troops to the extent of providing extras especially during festive periods. Therefore, this move by Doctor Brimah is nothing but a scam as there is nowhere in the world where troops were fed through donations by members of the public.
We would like to further state that there has never been complaints of lack of food by soldiers talk-less of starvation. The so called Dr Perry Brimah or his agents do not represent the Nigerian Army or her soldiers. Whoever believes and falls victim to this criminal act does so at his or her own risk. In addition, the Nigerian Army in conjunction with the Interpol are working hard to declare him wanted and extradite the International fraudster to face justice. Therefore, we request the general public for any information on the whereabouts of this fraudster.
You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium.
Source: https://www.gistkit.com/naija-news/army-declares-nigerian-doctor-perry-brimah-wanted-for-allegedly-raising-funds-to-feed-troops/ I very much hope this is just a fake news. If it is real then naija army no dey try at all. |

Presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo Hashim is calling for a National Guard. https://www.nairaland.com/4934020/establish-national-guard-solve-insecurity
Why not convert NYSC to that National Guard and make military training and service mandatory for all graduates?
They can join the police in holding "soft liberated areas" while previously battle-tested MOPOL men join the Army at the real front This Hashim guy either clearly doesn't know what he is talking about or desperately wants to sound intelligent. Why duplicate agencies when we already have NSCDC, Police, and DSS to bridge the gap of internal security?. If he had said his idea of National Guard entails temporarily creating an elite force comprising men from the military, police, DSS and local vigilante groups; training them properly, equipping them dangerously and giving them a semi-autonomous command(answerable only to the ONSA and Presidency), with the goal to flush out terrorists in the NE, then it would have made more sense. |

Sizzorkay: Turning people's children into soldiers without volunteering for it is a bad idea, national guard or not, this isn't what NYSC is all about, if Nigeria need people, don't use slave labor, hire them, there are tens of millions of people in Nigeria that can fill that role, NYSC should stay as it is. No parent slave to send their kid to school only to end up in harms way without consent. We have one of the youngest population in the world, use them. Besides wouldn't a law be needed for it? A president shouldn't have the power to make such conversion Heard the NYSC programme was initially conceived as a two years mandatory military service for males and one year mandatory military service for females, to be taken after O levels(secondary school education), but was later downgraded to the current version by the then Supreme Military Council due to funding and age of participants. Even though I can't vouch for the authenticity of that claim, it shows that the idea of militarilizing the NYSC probably has been around for decades now. However I agree with you, no point endangering innocent youths against their wishes. It should be a voluntary thing. We are already running multiple agencies with more or less the same function, no need to add more. BTW, the President doesn't have the power to create any agency without approval from the NASS. However, taskforces can be created unilaterally to serve temporary assignments, without needing Senate approval. The idea of National Guard will definitely need NASS approval, and I don't see any assembly giving consent, especially with the Peace Corps issue still lingering. |

Poverty and ignorance will not allow many Nigerians to see the sense in your writeup, maybe in the next decade or so, we would have advanced as a society to the point where we address salient issues and understand the concept of humanity. Lazy boy, you better thank whoever helped u travel out of Nigeria, if not, na for your village you for de de pluck cocoa, oponu Bros, e never reach to dey foam for mouth, make your points with at least a semblance of decorum. Anybody that sees you commenting like this now will think you are not well bred or cultured from home, and I am certain you don't want to portray such a base image. Now, I was able to extract one or two points from the untidy mix of colourful expletives you wrote up there. The issue is, anywhere you are, whether Nigeria or Mars, opportunity is key. Travelling abroad does not guarantee success or wealth, I can boldly repeat that in front of Her Majesty. Those who get decent jobs abroad have to spend huge amounts of money to school abroad before they can even get employment, others have to do menial jobs and earn money that disappear shortly due to taxes. There is a big misconception that everyone who goes abroad will makes it, it is wrong. They only have a better chance of being successful compared to staying in Nigeria, but that doesn't mean wealth is automatic. If you like shout 99.9% bla bla...you can't back up that statistic, many immigrants have to spend years on the streets to even secure menial job, talkless of accommodation, many die in the snow and their families at home think they ran away to obodo oyinbo and don't want to come back. For people who have no connections abroad prior to landing, it takes years to find their footing. Same as hustling in Nigeria. My own contention is not that you won't eventually come home with at least something to set yourself up, but I am against the believe that hustlers in Nigeria are smarter or more rugged than those abroad. Opportunities are hard to secure everywhere for black people, especially now with increasing anti-migrants sentiments across Europe and America. I hope you can understand what I just wrote. Thank you. |

franchasng: Bad mouth will not kill you this girl
But then, there is some truth in what you typed because every Joe or Jane that travel to advance country always make it by working in paid jobs there which are readily available for whoever have strength or certificate to work unlike in Nigeria and most West African nations where even with your degree(s) + strength + willingness to do any kind of job, you still need to be extra smart, wise, calculative, intuitive, hardworking, strong and connected to make it financially, so I agree with you, sadly
Bros, that lady you quoted said some salient truth oh, forget matter, she is right in a way Uncle, let us apply sense, yes?. Now, do you think jobs are just lying around in "advanced countries" for us to pluck?, in many of these countries, you have to obtain a degree in the country before you can even get a decent job (which you aren't even guaranteed), even if you had a PhD. from Nigeria. Very expensive education. After that, if you are fortunate to get a decent job, you begin to labour from the bottom, it's very hard to even get promoted in most organizations due to race and perception of inferior educational qualifications. If you are not in that system, you won't know how it is. You think because you are suffering in Nigeria, then you are smarts or more rugged?, baba, those who are hustling in a place like the UK will just be laughing at your naivety. |

dairykidd: There's nothing wrong being gay or Bi... If u like wear a thong or a g~string i know to u its not different from wearing normal boxers or briefs... Every man has a right to express themselves the way they fûcking want.
Live free Well then, it's good to know there are still people with at least a pittance of sense around. Nice analogy by the way, you nearly convinced me of your intelligence. At least that is something. |
