One key thing u should have is patience, most of these foreign breeds are hardly aggresive as puppies, they only tend to be aggresive as they mature, mostly at 1yr-2yrs old, i once had a semi adult gsd, she was so playfull nd fearful, the fear was as a result of the previous owner that didnt socialize her at all, she would hardly bark at people, tho i saw the potential in her because weneva sumone came into the house, all ears wuld be up, the facial disposition says she wana bark bt she didnt knw hw, meanwhile d oda dogs would bark nd bark, my folks wuld keep on complaining abt d dog having no ginger, since dey were used to my oda dogs ginger, i tried defending her, since i wasnt at home cos am a student, when d complaints got too much, i had to cum bk home to sell her to sumone who wuld appreciate her, i had to sell one of the most beautiful gsd i had eva owned jst cos she was still a puppy, i still follow d dog up, d present owner nw says shez a very active dog nd even bullies sum of his oda dogs, u jst nid to ve patience wit ur dog, most gsd bcom protective as dey mature, males bcom teritorial wen dey start marking, females wen dey feel rily attached to d family or after first heat or giving birth bt mostly wen dey feel or see ur family as part of dier own, gsds naturaly wuld protect wat dey consider diers.nd anoda observatiopn i had in past years is dt most dogs feel reluctant to bark wen dere is anoda dog in d compound doin d barking b4 dey came in nd d moment u remove dt dog, dey tend to start barking or atleast dier barking habit will improve. Cos most people keep on worrying about pups that are growing in a normal rate just because they see some other dogs that the owners are nt sure of their age nd say its a lesser age, is the dog looking skinny? It is our Nigerian Locale breed, its huge paws kinda mks it look lyk it has bin mixed in its line, the white in its chest nd tail disqualifies it of being a GSD nd rott mix cos GSDs only start growing visible patch of white in their chest region as they mature, nd GSD dnt ve white @ d tip of their tail nd neither do Rotts, the colour nd body structure seems like it has bin mixed wit a rott or dobberman in its line. Sure he ought to have introduced the dogs to the children but the parents may have refused to allow that for fear of their children being harmed, ironically. The children may also have been in the habit of teasing the dogs while they were chained down, because bored children frequently do this. No amount of socialization will prevent a guard dog worth anything from chasing someone that regularly agitates him when an opportunity presents itself. A real investigation should involve the following questions: (1) why were the dogs not chained that day? (2) was it the first time? (3) did the mother not notice that the dogs were not chained when she left for the market? (4) If she did, why did she not tell her children to stay in the house? (5) If she did and the children disobeyed, as children often do, whose fault is this? The owner is partly to blame, but the children and their parents should share in the blame too. It's very likely that they were all careless.

First of all u need to confirm if she is rily on heat, because dere re sum infections in dogs dt luks lyk dey re on heat, wen u mst ve confirmed dt it is rily heat, den try as much as posible to keep her away frm males, it is nt advicable to breed a dog on her first heat as a result of sum comlications nd because dey haven't reached theier adult height nd weight which culd posibly be stunted by d pregnancy, I knw u may want to breed her nw nd dts y u re asking bt 9 month is too young, most rotts I knw cum on heat 12 month 4 first tym bt d average age is 9-10 months. Breeding can commence adter 2 yrs bt since people re so eager to breed, I wuld advice dt dey shuld atleast skip d first heat, or what do u plan on doing wit ur dog? I personally wuldnt mate on first heat bt its ur choice jst be ready for the consequencesi

It doesn't necesararily mean that there must be dogs in d compound b4 it marks, marking is different frm dominance character, marking enables oda dogs aware that that is their teritory, all dogs within or outsyd ur compound nd it is usually don by matured males only, it isn't trying to fight for space or trying to make one portion for himself, when I was younger, when ever a dog marks I used to say he is trying to tell oda dogs who may sniff dere again dat "I was here" meaning it is his own, dogs re intelligent enuf to leave dat part if dey sniff anoda dog marking scent. So it can be further explained in relationship to humans as like for example, u buy a book nd then write ur name on it to make people that may see d book to identify it as ur own nd anyone who stil steals d book or cancels ur name nd write his, has challenged ur authority. Just same wit dogs nd marking. Neutering reduces it bt it is nt an assurance dt it can be totally eradicated

The fastest way for u to reduce marking is for u to get ur dog neutered/castrated. That way that behaviour would be reduced tho since ur dog has already started, it would be hard or take a longer tym b4 it reduces, and I doubt most Nigerians would want to spay or neuter any of their dogs because frm recent observations, everyone that owns a dog, wants to breed them. So if u rily wana stp d marking, dts d only way u can cos it cannot be totally eradicated

Cats re domesticated animals bt they can't be trained d way a dog culd be, they seem to hav a mind of their own, for example u can train a dog not to leave ur yard unsupervised or at a particular tym bt u cn neva keep a cat in ur home all tru, they re well known to stray away, u cn train a dog to sit nd stay bt nt a cat. So all u nid to train it to do rily is potty training,give a name nd u re gud to go, treat dem like humans, cats re naturally neat animals they dnt like being disorganized so u dnt ve a problem there jst the feeding nd occasionally bathing nd combing cos cats dnt rily like water

arcbay: You have a point pal. I'll ask a question, no offense intended please. Have you ever walked a slantback GSD? Due to their build and physique, They have a "high-energy pull". Much of their weight is concentrated in their chest region, with the "push" coming in from the hind legs. I'll ask further questions...Ever been on a basketball team? If yes, ever wondered why ballers who have a higher jump power are those who can leap on their toes. Also, have you ever wondered why the army rejects people with a flat feet? Ever wondered why the best sprinters are those who run on toe tips? My point is this...The orientation of the limbs of the slantback makes them a better sprinter. In a way, they also have sharper reflexes, they are also more alert cos they seem to be on edge all the time unlike being in the "relaxed" physique. I've been breeding for a long while, bred several slants and straightbacks and I'm telling you this from my personal experiences. Being an animal behaviorist too, I was able to decipher all the puzzled questions that I ran across all thru my career with the canines. I still maintain that their only shortcoming is the bone disorders all of which can be managed if properly handled. It is not only the slantback GSDs that are liable to bone diseases, what about the likes of the neopolitan mastiff, bullmastiff and co? But that won't stop people from wanting to own them, and several drugs have been developed to control these defects.

Any modification made should be to imrove I must agree, but u also aware of the shortcomings, does the modification outweigh the disastrous effect(as wat I call d problem) they face re or re more prone to, no doubt more force is more applied @ d chest region, bt den I wuld like to ask is it advicable for ones body weight to be shifted to a particular part? Foot? arcbay: I laugh in Spanish. My guy, what I just revealed is something I've confirmed practically, not some stuff I read up over the internet. Some write-ups might be misleading sometimes cos you might mis-quote or misunderstand the true intent of the write-up. I'll take time to lecture you on this. There's a whole lot of difference between a pet being a showdog and another being a working dog. The term "working dogs" doesn't necessarily mean the dogs are best in being guard dogs. It only means the dog is in his natural state which he was created to be, meaning it has the natural attributes of the particular breed standard. The straightbacks were coined working dogs cos they were used in herd and livestock protection in ancient times. As years rolled by, several questions prompted breeders to come up with modifications in breed standards. Modifications in the working and conformational line without any damage to the integrity of the breed quality. This led to the origination of the slantbacks. A pet being a "showdog" doesn't necessarily mean it was bred to prance around a show ring. It only means several modifications have been made to the breed standard, which might be in guard instincts, reflexes, poise, agility, aggression, etc. I cam go on all day explaining all these to you, but I wouldn't wanna bore you. I still insist that straightbacks are good in their respects but several modification has led people to choose slants over straights. Attached are pictures of the working slantbacks. So Please Mr. Eveezy, i'm no novice in this game, u need a lot of research to do, afterwhich you can come back and argue it out.

arcbay: I oppose you on that bro. There's this trend in Nigeria presently which I want us to look into. No doubt the straight back GSDs are good as guard dogs, slant backs too are extremely better as guard dogs cos of many added attributes. One of this attributes is the strength which their hind limbs possess. The reason for picking a slantback GSD over a straightback is the same reason the army will reject a new entrant with a flat foot. Hope you get my point. The slants have better and sharper reflexes, they leap and have a higher jump power than the straightbacks. Has anyone bothered to ask why they use slantback GSDs and dobbermanns for crime control in and outside the country, especially in the STATES? Their only shortcoming is that they're prone to several bone disorders such as hips dysplasia, developmental dislocation, panosteitis, degenerative myelopathy amongst other spinal and joint probs. I still remain a fan of the slantbacks, but that doesn't mean the straightbacks are left out. The straightbacks too have their advantages, they tend to have a higher life span, they have a higher productivity, they are very good working dogs, amongst several other attributes.

Boss abeg do ur research well, the gsd re of 2 types which is the showline and working line, the showline german shepherds have slant backs and are used for shows and the working line has straight back which are used 4 guard, herding, and so many oda puroses. And also to correct u, they dnt nd I dnt tink dey ve eva used a slant back in d crime force, do ur research well, any dogs that I ve known to be used in the crime force has always been the straight bk which is the original breed of the GSD founded by Max Von Stehanitz. The slant back was recently developed. What most pppeopple dnt knw is that even among dis two types of GSDs, there re still oda variations among those two, the working line re divided into two which is the German working line and the American working line, the german working line re more huge, stockier and heavy compared to the American working line. And also the showlines are also divide into two the German showline which has a roach bk as it slopes downward I.e there is a particular place dt forms a roach b4 it slopes downward, and finally the american showline which has a more steeper slope. I am currently working on one, I currently ve a local mix which I ve studied since wen she was little, the parents of d dog which belongs to my frnd were personally selected by me because I had dis crazy interest in breeding bt at that tym wasn't so much interested in owning a local dog bt I wanted to help him a gud dog, so I got to keep two pups bt later sold one.
APPEARANCE:
The puppies eventually came out to be all black blanket with tan, white or brown markings, some of the pups had white extended to their legs. But black is their dominant colours while white is recessive as only few of the pupppies had it, bt a patch of white in d chest region was common. They all had a medium tail which curves to touch their back. As puppies, their ears re floppy, bt as they mature, they bcom errect.
TEMPERAMENT:
As puppies they are very friendly jst as most other breeds, early socialization is important with this dogs because they tend to be wary of strangers and they mainly bond to one particular person in the house hold, and that person must be the one who would take em 4 walk, nd train them. Also early socialization is important with this dogs because as early as 2 month old, they bcom aware of dier surrounding and bark at strange noises nd by 3 months they bark at strangers.
TRAINABILITY:
They re very easy to train and respond mostly to one person in the household which they would gladly die for, they understand a command after 4 or 5 repititions, treats could be used in training them, but their heart can't be bought with food, they normally wuld love the person who shows dem love, gives them freedom,takes them for walk, trains them, defends them and always watch on them b4 they can accept u as a frnd (they must trust u) very security concious, though nt on d large side yet to me able to apply weight on an intruder wen asked to attack, they occasionally test their leader thru challenges to knw who is boss, so u need to be head strong with them. They are known to pursue stray dogs nd get into fight if nt properly socialized.

Height: 20inches at shouler for females and 22 inches for males
Weight: not sure yet
Average life span: nt sure yet, stil monitoring the dog

NOTE: I currently ve a female which has a black blanket wit white extended to her legs with brown markings, the male was black blanket wit brown markings extended to his legs but I gave him out because I didn't want to breed them 2geda, instead I want to improve on the breed by crossing with a foreign dog which I am yet to do because I am stil studying my female which is nw a year nd 6 month old virgin nw. I keep her separate from my foregn dogs wen eva she is on heat.
MORE NOTES: they re currently 9ja pure local dogs wit no foreign mix in them yet still look lovely especially as puppies. Though I will breed her soon with a GSD once am certain she is tru with her growth. They re very confident dogs, I wuld attach pics of my female standing with a tails curled backwards nd other pics, I wuld ve loved to attach pics of dem as puppies bt I lost dem wen my mem card formated, the males re usually bigger, sum females sumtyms fall below 20 inch. Nd lastly I ve oda dogs nd puppies, neva breed them tho, I jst keep on buying them ova the years, am a pure GSD lover, nd ve kept them for years nw bt neva breed them for gud reasons, in one of the pics u wuld see my sable gsd pup nd a gsd mix on d floor,

Very lovely dogs, great show am very very impressed with 9ja, we will soon get there, but that gsd u mentioned to be an albino is actually a liver coloured gsd, d albino means absence of melanie I.e absence of colour or pigment which would make it white in colour, the albino GSD is actually the pure white GSD, but honestly this is my first time of ever seeing a liver coloured gsd, am so thrilled, they re nt common tho often considered a fault according to sum standards bt to me they re awesum

Its a GSD alrite bt I doubt if its 4 month as the breeder must ve told u, he probably jst reduced d age to mk u feel its rily big, bt I cn almost assure u dt ur dog is older than 4 months

If ur ansa to my first question was dt u re a breeder, plzzz try repackage nd quit because u ve no knowledge abt dogs nd therefore have no business breeding them,.if ur ansa was no then bros dis is not a Rottie at all, nt even the littlest bit. Nw my second question, if it is yes den my guy whatever book u read or site u browsed needs to be closed, bt if ur ansa is no, den u need to learn more. Nw my oda question, are diz ur dogs? If dey are, my guy, plzzzzzz try to find out about ur dogs, read books, nd if they re nt, abeg ask the owner.
