I was reading through something earlier and the subject was on the fearless prophet Elijah. God arrives on time....and I thank & praise Him for that.

The particular portion I was reading, focused on why Elijah, after such a powerfully, faith filled, fearless prayer toGod in front of the prophets of baal on Mount Carmel (1Kings 18) KJV, so quickly capsized at the threat of the satanic, originator of the famous word, "jezebel", the queen herself after her PROMISE of DEATH to him?

Was Elijah God's messenger?
Did he have a specific duty?

Why did he fear a human when he knew God the Creator was with Him...leading Him and instructing Him?

Prayerfully think about the question

Judas had joined the disciples when multitudes were following Christ. The Saviour's teaching moved their hearts as they hung entranced upon His words, spoken in the synagogue, by the seaside, upon the mount. Judas saw the sick, the lame, the blind, flock to Jesus from the towns and cities. He saw the dying laid at His feet. He witnessed the Saviour's mighty works in healing the sick, casting out devils, and raising the dead. He felt in his own person the evidence of Christ's power. He recognized the teaching of Christ as superior to all that he had ever heard. He loved the Great Teacher, and desired to be with Him. He felt a desire to be changed in character and life, and he hoped to experience this through connecting himself with Jesus. The Saviour did not repulse Judas. He gave him a place among the twelve. He trusted him to do the work of an evangelist. He endowed him with power to heal the sick and to cast out devils. But Judas did not come to the point of surrendering himself fully to Christ. He did not give up his worldly ambition or his love of money. While he accepted the position of a minister of Christ, he did not bring himself under the divine molding. He felt that he could retain his own judgment and opinions, and he cultivated a disposition to criticize and accuse.

Judas was highly regarded by the disciples, and had great influence over them. He himself had a high opinion of his own qualifications, and looked upon his brethren as greatly inferior to him in judgment and ability.


They did not see their opportunities, he thought, and take advantage of circumstances. The church would never prosper with such shortsighted men as leaders. Peter was impetuous; he would move without consideration. John, who was treasuring up the truths that fell from Christ's lips, was looked upon by Judas as a poor financier. Matthew, whose training had taught him accuracy in all things, was very particular in regard to honesty, and he was ever contemplating the words of Christ, and became so absorbed in them that, as Judas thought, he could not be trusted to do sharp, far-seeing business. Thus Judas summed up all the disciples, and flattered himself that the church would often be brought into perplexity and embarrassment if it were not for his ability as a manager. Judas regarded himself as the capable one, who could not be overreached. In his own estimation he was an honor to the cause, and as such he always represented himself.

‘A tempestuous head wind arose, called Euroclydon.’ Acts 27:14

The ship Paul was sailing on to Rome was wrecked by a storm named Euroclydon, meaning typhoon, tempest or cyclone. Here are some valuable lessons we can learn from his experience.

(1) God can make a bad situation work for your good. Because of this shipwreck, Paul ended up on Malta, where the people heard the Gospel for the first time. Plus, when he and his followers ‘departed, they provided such things as were necessary.’ (Acts 28:10 NKJV) Sometimes your problem can provide a platform for God to work in ways that’ll amaze you. Your future isn’t, nor ever will be, in the hands of people. It’s in God’s hands, and what He owns He protects and provides for.

(2) To reach your God-ordained destination you’ll have to sail through storms. Paul said, ‘All hope that we would be saved was finally given up.’ (Acts 27:20 NKJV) There’ll be days when you wonder how you’re going to make it, but by God’s grace you will (see Psalm 37:34).

(3) Storms reveal how well you know the Lord. Paul said, ‘Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me and said, “Do not be afraid, Paul.”’ (Acts 27:23–24 NIV) In hard times you discover the strength of your connection to God.

(4) He can bring success from what looks like failure. Notice two particular things in this story: (a) You may have to throw some things overboard to reach your destination (see v. 18). (b) Despite your best efforts, occasionally you’ll run aground (see v. 26). That’s when you must remember what God promised you—and stand on it (see v. 25).

"Ministers and people need the converting power of grace before they will be able to stand in the day of the Lord. The world is fast approaching that point in iniquity and human depravity when God's interference will become necessary. And at that time His professed followers should be more marked for their fidelity to His holy law. Their prayer will be as that of David: “It is time for Thee, Lord, to work: for they have made void Thy law.” And by their conduct they will say: “Therefore I love Thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.” The very contempt that is shown to the law of God is sufficient reason why His commandment-keeping people should come to the front and show their esteem and reverence for His downtrodden law.

“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” The very atmosphere is polluted with sin. Soon God's people will be tested by fiery trials, and the great proportion of those who now appear to be genuine and true will prove to be base metal. Instead of being strengthened and confirmed by opposition, threats, and abuse, they will cowardly take the side of the opposers. The promise is: “Them that honor Me I will honor.” Shall we be less firmly attached to God's law because the world at large have attempted to make it void?

Already the judgments of God are abroad in the land, as seen in storms, in floods, in tempests, in earthquakes, in peril by land and by sea. The great I AM is speaking to those who make void His law. When God's wrath is poured out upon the earth, who will then be able to stand? Now is the time for God's people to show themselves true to principle.

When the religion of Christ is most held in contempt, when His law is most despised, then should our zeal be the warmest and our courage and firmness the most unflinching.

To stand in defense of truth and righteousness when the majority forsake us, to fight the battles of the Lord when champions are few—this will be our test.

Persecution in some way, shape or form will occur....but only to those who are sincere in Christ.

If you see your fellow human being going the wrong way...running into a burning house, then what will you do? Do you warn them or let them keep going?

3. When you know you have a duty and obligation to do so for the sake of your Savior....

In regards to Peter, yes the concept of "mercy and grace" was given to him because of his repentant heart which was practically shown.
Jesus even told him to "strengthen his brethren when he was converted." (Luke 22:32) KJV .
So Christ knew....He foresaw Peter's genuine change.

In regards to your second question, Judas, on the other hand, was along for the ride.
Very close to the Lord by being in the inner group of the "12" disciples, but without a repentant heart.
He pretended as if he was about the cause of Christ...the gospel. However, he was not.
Judas had traits which needed to be eradicated....selfishness, love of money etc.,
Hopefully by understanding the true character and mission of Christ, He would surrender. Allow Christ to give him victory of sin in his life. However, within those three years and being close to Christ, he still refused.

He was a traitor, a deceiver and ultimately the one who carried out the final act of sending the Lord to death. Judas eventually killed himself after what he thought Christ would do (defend Himself), He didn't.
He betrayed the Lord, sent Him to His death... with a brotherly kiss on the cheek...with a kiss.. (Luke 22: 47-48) KJV.

Eviana, I researched how the Romans used crucifixion as a capital punishment. Honestly, those people are m.ad. very wicked. It is one of the most painful death. Ha! It was Mil Gibson who showed the pain cos all those movies before his were just showing the death of Christ was like partying...but Mil Gibson showed how he was battered. His body was destroyed. And they still reasoned among themselves to use a spear to open his ribs....mehn! Those Roman soldiers were brutal. They were merciless.

What else can take someone above that if not for GRACE?

Anyway, think about these things. The grace of God is important. And find good words to encourage us. Not making us feel we arent doing enough and if only you who can stand firm.
