You need to take it to an engineer, a flashing box is required to write a new IMEI cert for the device!

PREREQUISITES OF FLASHING CUSTOM ROM
1. Root your device
2. Flash TWRP(Recommended) or Latest Philz CWM Recovery
3. Do a NANDROID Backup which backs up System, Cache , EFS , etc

then you can go ahead to do any FLASHING of custom roms.

That a memory card makes your phone lag is a mute reason. Get a faster much more better SD cards like the Samsung Evo+ xc U1. Or any of the newer ones. Calling a Xiaomi a flagship makes me laugh though.

As for virus, that will only happens if you download an apps illegally or from shady sites or you click on links you shouldn't. So it has nothing to do with memory cards.
