Senator Aisha Alhassan, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, declared on Wednesday that those criticising her Sallah visit to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Yola, were being “mischievous”.


Commentators on social media as alleging that Alhassan’s visit, during which she made philosophical comments on the 2019 presidential contest, was a tacit support for Abubakar’s presidential ambition.

They also alleged that it signified disloyalty to her current boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, who may still be interested in seeking a fresh mandate.


But Alhassan, in a telephone interview , said that her Sallah homage to Abubakar did not amount to disloyalty to Buhari.

She explained that Abubakar had remained her political mentor over the years and was still a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that her loyalty to Buhari and his administration, which she serves as a minister, was “unshakable”.

The minister accused her “political detractors” of “amplifying and misinterpreting” the visit so as to smear her image because they were afraid of her growing political strength in Taraba.

“In a nation where politicians are quick to dump the people that assisted them to get to where they are, for political expediency, I have chosen to maintain a long standing family relationship with Abubakar, as well as Buhari, who I consider as a father.


“Besides, neither Buhari nor Abubakar has officially told anyone of an interest in seeking election in 2019,” she said.

Declaring that power comes from God, she said that if she loses her job because of her visit, she would consider it as the will of God.

She urged Nigerians to support the policies and programmes of the Buhari administration because it was time for governance and not yet time for politicking.

Six million Instagram accounts have been exposed online after hackers
created a dark web database of personal information, revealing private
phone numbers and email addresses.

The scale of the hack on the photo-sharing site emerged after the Instagram
account of singer Selena Gomez was compromised last week. UK security
researchers discovered hundreds of contact details on the dark web of
celebrities including Emma Watson, Taylor Swift and Harry Styles.
In addition to leaking the details of hundreds of A-listers, hackers created
an online database where cyber criminals could access private user details
for $10 per search.


Instagram initially said a "low percentage" of accounts had been affected,
although the hackers claim they have details on as many as six million
users, the Daily Beast reported.

Instagram has since responded with its advice on how to protect accounts
and report suspicious activity.

The hackers, claiming to be Russian and calling themselves "Doxagram",
advertised the account details on online forums with links to the dark web,
claiming "it is only $10 (price of 2 cups of coffee) for celebrity contact
info".

One website linked to the hack has since been taken down, with Facebook,
which owns Instagram, purchasing domain names used by the hackers to
take them offline.

An official Instagram account for the President of the United States of
America, run by the White House social media team, was also reported to be
among the exposed details.

"We quickly fixed the bug, and have been working with law enforcement on
the matter," said Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger. He added account
passwords had not been exposed by the security flaw.

UK cybersecurity company RepKnight identified 500 celebrity accounts that
had been compromised by the hack.

"While Instagram has now fixed the bug that lead to the leak, the cat is out
of the bag now, and those affected will have to take extra care to maintain
their privacy," said RepKnight analyst Patrick Martin.




How was the data stolen?

The potential vulnerability on Instagram was found by researchers at
Kaspersky Labs and reported to Facebook.

A flaw in the password reset option in the Instagram mobile app exposed
mobile phone numbers and email addresses, but not passwords. The simple
attack involved sending a request for a password reset to an account and
intercepting the private phone and email details sent in response to the
security query.

The vulnerability existed in a 2016 version of Instagram, meaning those
with up-to-date accounts should be safe.



How to protect yourself on Instagram

Instagram has since offered its official advice on what to do if your account
has been affected. Instagram said users should exercise additional caution
if they receive any calls or emails from unknown or suspicious sources.

"Additionally, we’re encouraging you to report any unusual activity through
our reporting tools," Instagram said. "You can access those tools by
tapping the “…” menu from your profile, selecting 'Report a Problem' and
then 'Spam or Abuse.'"

Instagram has a page which offers users advice on how best to keep their
account protected and what to do if they think an account has been hacked.
Users should change their password or send themselves a password reset
email if they think they have been affected.

It also suggests users turn on two-factor authentication on their accounts
for added protection.

How to turn on two-factor protection on Instagram

Go to the settings tab in the top right corner of your profile

Scroll down and select "two-factor authentication"

Tap "require security code"

You will then need to add a phone number to your account

After this a code will be sent to your phone every time you try to log into
your account


While this can keep an account safe from hackers, the information taken
from Instagram included phone numbers, showing not all data is safe when
stored online, even if it is kept private.

A Saudi Arabian musician and actor identified as Abdallah Al Shahani has been arrested by the Saudi police after he was seen dabbing on stage during a live concert.

The young musician who is also a TV personality was taken to police custody in the city of Ta’iff.


According to Oak News, the musician apologised to the Saudi government on social media after he was released from custody.

A video of Abdallah dabbing at the concert immediately went viral on social media.


In the video, the singer dropped his mic as he called on fans at the concert to clap along with the song while he pulled off series of dabs.


Abdallah apologised to the Saudi government, asking for forgiveness for his spontaneous behavior at the concert.


Dabbing is a dance move in which the dancer or stepper drops their head into their arm. It looks similar to the position you make when you sneeze.

On Friday, August 11, about eight buses drove to the road by the Unity Fountain in Abuja, Nigeria's capital city.

These buses had in them many Nigerians - mostly young people who all charged towards the famous Unity Fountain chanting Sai Buhari! Sai Buhari!!


The group's protest organized by the Centre for Civil Society and Justice (CCSJ) had earlier taken over the Unity Fountain yesterday in a counter protest against another group led by musician and television presenter Charles 'Charly Boy' Oputa.

Immediately, the youngsters arrived in their buses, they joined and were also welcomed by members of the pro-Buhari group already singing at the Unity Fountain.

They sang and charged towards the Charly Boy-led group chanting loudly and enthusiastically: Sai Buhari! Sai Buhari!!

The Federal Government has announced that all university undergraduates studying Agricultural science between 200 level and final year must own farms.

FG said students studying courses related to Agriculture will be included.

Speaking in a meeting with the governing council members of the federal universities on Tuesday, August 8, the minister of agriculture and rural development Audu Ogbeh said social science will soon be phased out of Nigeria's school curriculum.

Ogbeh directed all members of the federal universities' governing council to make it mandatory for all Agriculture students to own farms at the point of graduation.

He also said graduation in institutions should be based on a 60% practical work and 40% theory plan.

The minister said: “ The new agenda enjoins you to be more innovative and
enterprising. In the new dispensation, every undergraduate must, and I repeat, must own a farm on campus from 200 Level. Graduation should be based on 60 per cent on practice and 40 per cent theory.


“We are training high level young farmers who, even before graduating, should have started earning a living. We should be training graduates who should be going straight into production, with credit support from their Alma- Mata, produce chicken, eggs, goats, milk, set up meat laboratories, bake bread and above all produce and sell large quantities of high quality hybrid seeds," Ogbeh said.

Two Nigerian police officers have been captured on camera while they were
fighting two workers of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA)
