Some people have argued that there is no harm when two ex- lovers remain friendly even after each had gone ahead to get married. Saturday Punch asked Nigerians whether they would ask their spouse to return a N10m gift from their ex She’ll definitely send it back and I willsupervise it – Efemena Ozore I don’ t care how much the money is or of what benefits it might be ; she is definitely sending the money back to him and I would make sure I supervise that . The money is suspicious as the saying goes ,, nothing goes for nothing in this world we live in. No matter how noble the intention of the ex- lover is, he would feel owed. He wants attention and when he gets it , he would even want more . My wife being indebted to him, will be unable to shake him off easily. Secondly, she would lose my respect and I would not want that to happen . She will have her selfish reasons – Adelakun Adebukola I will ask him to return the money because they say one good turn deserves another . She is definitely giving him such a huge amount of money as a gift for her own selfish reason and she would ask for it back on the long run . But if my husband has to be in need of the money at that time that she sent it and there is no other place he can get it from , I would allow him keep it . I would have to trust my husband to some extent before I can allow him keep such money . The money will benefit both of us - Oluwaseun George I’d trust my wife enough to transact any form of business or cordiality with her ex. She can receive anything from him because they were once more than friends who shared similar interests but don’t anymore . The money will benefit both of us and any form of pride wouldn ’t. So I won’t ask her to do such a thing. It’s foolishness if I ask her to return it . I would not know if she had kept quiet about it and for her to tell me, I believe she meant no harm. If my knowledge of the money came from her , we are keeping it . I will monitor his moves henceforth – Adedayo Opeoluwa Absolutely not , he is not going to return themoney because he didn’t beg for it , it ’ s a gift . She obviously knows that he is married before sending it in the first place . Although , she might want to use that as a means to make them come back together but since I haven’ t caught them cheating, I would just have to monitor his moves henceforth. She will return it – Oluwatosin Adepoju I would not ask her to return the money . Although , I would be jealous at first and be kind of suspicious but I would have to call her , talk to her and make findings whether they are still having anything together again . Such a person can ’t just be giving that kind of expensive gift to an ex like that. We ’re keeping the money – Adekola Adeola I would never ask him to return the gift because she felt like giving him the money so why should I ask him to return it ? I won’t be suspicious because before I would get married to a man , I should be able to trust him and so I trust my husband . As long as I am alive , it won’t even work if her plan is to make them have an affair together again . But as for the money , we are keeping it . He will start giving her expensive gifts – Christopher Udeh I would ask her to return the gift back to him because he is an ex lover . If I allow her to keep the gift , he will start giving her more expensive things that would make them come back together regardless that she is married to me. Most women are more attracted to material things and that could bring more harm to the marriage and I don’t want such to happen to mine. We will share the money 60 /40 – Nofisat Andoyi I can never ask him to return such money to her because it ’ s a gift , he didn’t go to beg her for money I suppose . Besides , either his ex sends it to him or not , if he wants to continued with the relationship with her , he will without me even knowing . It is better we share the money on a 60 /40 per cent basis and invest in a profitable business . I trust my husband and he would not want to destroy our love because of an ex- lover. Such gift can ’ t be given freely – Aremu Olumide I would ask her to return the money because , he may later request for it back after my wife might have rejected to offer to do anything with him . A guy can’t just give a lady an expensive gift like that , it can’t be free and when the lady collects it and can’ t give him what he wants , he would ask for the gift back and I may not be able to help refund such amount of money . So her collecting it is a burden, not a means of solving problems . I won ’t ask my husband to return such blessing – Aromashodun Funmilayo There is no way I would ask my husband to return such a blessing because he didn’ t go crawling to her to beg her for money , I trust him not to do that . She must be buoyant to send him such money in the first place . Although , I know she did it for some reasonsbest known to her . Even if my husband does not want to cheat on me, he will cheat if he wants to. Only God and prayer can sustain a man from cheating. He will keep the money and get it invested into a business that will benefit us and the kids . http://punchng.com/would-you-ask-your-spouse-to-return-n10m-gift-from-an-ex-lover/ |

The Ekiti State Governor , Ayodele Fayose, said he would have burnt his Peoples Democratic Party’s membership card and the party’ s flag if Senator Ali Modu Sheriff had won at the Supreme Court on Wednesday . The Chairman, PDP Governors Forum said he went to court with a perfume with the intent to destroy the card and the party ’s flag .He said , “ I never imagined myself being in the same party with impostors. ” The Supreme Court in a unanimous judgement delivered on Wednesday declared Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic Chairman of the party. Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Friday the governor , who pointed out that Sheriff and members of his faction had been forgiven , said they must show remorse for causing the party members so much pains. “I went to court with a perfume which I wanted to use to spray my cards and party flags and set them ablaze even within the court premises if Sheriff had won , that was why I went to court . “Though I believe that we remain the same PDP family but no one can cause our partysuch pains and embarrassment and expect that he would go without being asked to account for his actions . “Even the reactions of Sheriff people shows that we remain together . But the no victor, no vanquished that we said was a mere political slogan . Whoever that participated in this charade must show some reasonable level of remorse for their actions , ” he said . With the Makarfi ’ s victory, the governor said the PDP would be revived and fortified to play its opposition roles so as to dislodge President Muhammadu Buhari and Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in the 2019 presidential poll. “Our party had ever remained one indissoluble family . It was only these impostors that were causing troubles but such had been laid to rest. PDP is a formidable force and we shall work up to the grassroots level to convince our people that we are up to the task of rebuilding this nation and win election in 2019 ” . Fayose said his presidential ambition was still much alive . “I am an early starter and that has been my style of politics . In 2003 , I started earlier and I defeated Otunba Niyi Adebayo and likewise Dr Kayode Fayemi in 2014 . “I want to tell you that the APC won’ t return to the Villa. We shall defeat both Buhari and Osinbajo, we are removing the two together and I want you to believe this . “When I talk, people would say I always pose like a Nostradamus – a man who can see tomorrow. Whether they like it or not , I shall be in the Villa in 2019 , so my ambition is very much alive ,” he added. http://punchng.com/id-have-burnt-my-pdp-card-flag-if-sheriff-had-won-fayose/ |
The highly celebrated meeting between Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and ailing President Muhammadu Buhari lasted for five minutes only according to Presidency officials in the know of what transpired between the two leaders at the "Abuja House" in London, Sahara Reporters has said. The online medium said that when Acting President Osinbajo arrived London, he left behind his entourage and traveled in a car all with a few diplomatic staff alone to meet President Buhari in his abode. The bulk of time spent by Osinbajo in London was done arranging how to meet Buhari in person. According to sources when he arrived the Abuja House venue of the meeting it took at least 45 minutes to let him into where President Buhari met him privately only for five minutes before he was ushered out and spent some more time speaking with other aides of Buhari in the general area of the house before leaving Abuja house to return to Nigeria. The meeting between Osinbajo and Buhari was not more than mere pleasantries according to our source who said Buhari shuttles between two hospitals, one outside London and the other one within the city, occasionally returning to “Abuja House” where he recuperates when his treatment is less intense. No cameras or recording devices were allowed into the meeting. When Ag. President Osinbajo left Abuja House he was seen entering the car that brought alone with no sign of President Buhari in a brief video supplied by Reuters. https://www.naij.com/1114902-revealed-how-cabal-allegedly-allowed-osinbajo-meet-buhari-5-minutes-london.html

ABUJA – NORTHERN youths under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Groups Thursday issued another threat, calling on the United Nations (UN) to as a matter of urgency, pronounce the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organization. This is coming one month after the same group gave the Igbo a quit notice to leave the north before the 1st of October, 2017. https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/igbo-arewa.jpg Igbo must go cartoon Addressing Journalists Thursday in Abuja, the Arewa youths also called on the UN to intervene, by initiating processes for a peaceful referendum, saying that it is the only option to finally settle the Biafran issue. In a letter addressed to the UN and dated 12th of July, 2017, which the groups made available to Journalists yesterday, they stressed that since the end of the Nigerian Civil War, Igbo have intermittently continued to taunt and rebel against other parts of the country, by demanding to secede and form an independent country, adding that they are reopening old wounds by calling for violence and anarchy. According to the group, the popular Kaduna Declaration that they should leave the north was not a call to violence, but a precaution. Speaking on behalf of the coalition, its coordinator, Shettima Yerima, said: “Not withstanding all the efforts by the Acting President and responsible regional leaders, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, remains undaunted and even intensified their violent divisive campaign which is the main issue of contention. “Their continued action is a clear signal that they are committed to breaking away from the Nigerian federation which buttresses our earlier concerns. “Worried by the recent threats, we became concerned that Kanu has finally crossed the boundaries of Nigerian laws and has blatantly breached international laws that specifically frown at the use of terror to achieve a goal. “We are calling on the UN to invoke the relevant statuses to which Nigeria is a signatory to pronounce Kanu and IPOB as a terror outfits, proscribe their activities and initiate criminal actions against them. “Since it is becoming all the more obvious by the way IPOB and Kanu enjoy massive support from the Igbo back home that the issue of the drive for Biafra nation is still a boiling one, we urge the UN to intervene by initiating processes for a peaceful referendum as the only option to finally settle the Biafran issue.” The letter the Coalition of Northern Groups made up of fourteen northern associations wrote and addressed to the Resident Coordinator, United Nations, read in part, “To prevent the impending war and genocide being incited by Kanu’s IPOB, we urge the international community to look deeply into the evidence We have attached here and make a necessary decision in line with what International Jaw and the international criminal curt laid down as precedents in dealing with people and groups that openly call for war and genocide. “We further submit that the Conduct of Kanu and IPOB qualify as acts of terrorism against the state and the people they target. We rely on the UN! Security Council Resolution 1566 read alongside resolution 1373 that qualifies terrorism as: “criminal acts, including against civilians, committed with the intent to cause death or serious bodily injury, or taking of hostages, with the purpose to provoke a state of terror in the general public or in a group of persons or particular persons, intimidate a population or compel a government or an international organization to do or to abstain from doing any act. “In line with the above resolution, it is our belief that the campaign waged by Kanu and his group constitutes, to a large extent, acts of terrorism as it provokes a state of terror in the general public’ and ’intimidates a population. ” It is equally important to stress that Kanu and IPOB have, in their campaign, carved out territories they intend to annex in their planned Biafran nation, even when some of these places are outside the key five lgbo States of the South East. “The leaders of these neighboring states have since expressed deep concern and apprehension that the grand plan of Kanu and IPOB is one that also includes the design to annex unwilling neighbors. This is not only against international Law, it is also a catalyst for violent resistance as we have seen in various parts of the world; the recent being Crimea. “The position of international law is also clear as contained in the ICJ report 1986: “A Prohibited intervention must..’. be one bearing on matters in which each State is permitted, by the principle Of State sovereignty, to decide freely One Of these is the choice of a political, economic social and cultural system end the formulation of foreign policy. Intervention is wrongful when it uses methods of coercion in regard to such choices, which must remain free ones.” ICJ Reports 1986, Judgment, June 27, 1986, p. 14, 108 (Para. 205) “We accordingly demand that the only enduring solution to this scourge that is being visited on the nation is complete separation of the states presently agitating for Biafra from the Federal Republic of Nigeria through a peaceful political process which includes: “Taking steps to facilitate the actualization of the Biafran nation in line with the principle of self-determination as an integral part of contemporary customary international law. “The principle of self-determination has, since World War II become a part of the United Nations Charter, which states in Article 1(2), that one of the purposes of the UN is “to develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples. “We submit that this protocol envisages that people of any nation have the right to self-determination, and although the Charter did not categorically impose direct legal obligations on member States; it implies that member States allow agitating or minority groups to self-govern as much as possible. “This principle of self-determination has since been espoused in two additional treaties: The United Nations Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the United Nations Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Article 1 of both international documents promote and protect the right of a people to self-determination. State parties to these international documents are obliged to uphold the primacy and realization of this right as it cements the international legal philosophy that gives a people the right to self. determination. “As the Biafran agitation persists and assumes threatening and violent dimensions, we submit that there is a need for the lgbo to have the opportunity to exercise the right to self- determination as entrenched in the aforementioned international statutes to which Nigeria is a signatory.” In their prayers, the groups said, “We call on the UN to, on behalf of the peace loving and good people of Nigeria, impress on our International friends and partners, i.e. the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Israel to distance themselves from these threats to peace made by Kanu and ban further activities of his violent group on their soils in addition to appropriately labeling it a terror organization. “Recognizing the right of self-determination in international law as the legal right of a ”people” to attain a certain degree of autonomy from a sovereign state through a legitimate political process, we strongly demand for the conduct of a referendum in a politically sane atmosphere for the Biafran lgbo to have a democratic voice over their future and the future of the nation. “We pray the UN to call on all lgbo from all over the country and in the Diaspora to converge in their ‘region in the South- East for a plebiscite under the supervision of the UN and other regional bodies to categorically decide between remaining with Nigeria or actualizing the Biafran dream. “We pray the UN to resolve to ensure that the Nigerian authorities should at the-end of the plebiscite implement Whatever is agreed and resolved in order to finally put this matter to rest.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/arewa-youths-ask-un-pronounce-ipob-terror-group-say-kanu-finally-crossed-boundaries/ |
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has said that he hoped Senator Ademola Adeleke, whom he swore into the Senate as the senator representing Osun West District, will soon return to his natural fold which is the All Progressives Congress, APC, party. Saraki stated this while swearing in Senator Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who had defected from APC and won the Osun West bye-election after defeating Senator Mudashir Husain. https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/saraki-bukola-1.jpg Bukola Saraki The Senate President who said he was filled with emotions especially as he knows the that the people of Ede, Osun West Distric and especially the late Isiaka Adeleke whose younger brother, Ademole is will experience even a better representation in the new Senator. He however urged the APC party to see the Osun election as a pointer that the peoples’ choice must always be respected no matter what. “I was filled with emotions today as I swore in the brother of Late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke as Senator representing Osun South. I’m sure that my late friend, his family, good people of Ede and Osun West Senatorial District are delighted that the legacy of Government can continue. I am sure my departed colleague will, in his grave, be happy and filled with joy today and always. “My only sadness is that Senator Ademola Adeleke is not coming in as an APC member. This is the result of mishandling of the pre-election matters by our party. I hope Senator Ademola Adeleke will very soon return to his natural fold, the APC, where he rightly belongs. “I hope this development will serve as an eye opener to our party at all levels that the will of the people must always be respected. We all have a good lesson to learn from this. “Once again, I congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke and I hope he will live up to his brother’s expectations and further uplift the legacy established by their late father, Senator Ayoola Adeleke. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/hope-adelekell-soon-return-fold-apc-saraki/ |

Donald Trump's government on Wednesday, July 12, inaugurated a web-based platform to support President Muhammadu Buhari's fight against corruption. The platform is founded by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement and was developed by BudgIT. Mr David Young in his remark said that the platform will seek to address the daily instances of corruption faced by millions of Nigerians, Vanguard reports. He charged Nigerians to embrace the development to the fight against corruption and bring to the background. He said: “The tide will turn against the culture of corruption when Nigerians recognize that they must fight as one to stamp out this scourge that has hampered development and stifled prosperity. “Report Yourself offers Nigerians the means to instantaneously report corruption, bribery, and graft with the option of filing an official complaint with the Nigerian Police Force Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit, (PCRRU). “Through the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, we are working to increase the capacity of Nigerian law enforcement agencies and the justice sector.’’ Mr Abayomi Shogunle, the assistant commissioner of police, that represented the commissioner of police urged Nigerians to make PCRRU function very well. Mr Shogunle also said that the Nigerian PoliceForce (NPF) noted that initiative will achieve its function. The Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has warned all individuals and group to desist from violent and hateful speeches. In a recent video, Osinbajo said it is well understood that there are frustrations and challenges which come with seeking betterlivelihood. Osinbajo said: "And while we all dearly preoccupy ourselves with pursuit for the Nigerian dream which is the desire to better our lives and circumstances vigorously and honestly." It is evident that grievances and frustrations will arise, this is normal. What is not normal or acceptable is employing these frustrations as justification for indulging in discrimination or hate speech or hateful conduct of any kind or for seeking to undermine by violent or other illegal means, the very existence of the sovereign entity that has brought us together as brothers and sisters and citizens. Nigeria belongs to all of us, no one person or group is more entitled than the other," Osinbajo said. https://www.naij.com/1113932-nigeria-belongs-acting-president-osinbajo-warns.html |

Overwhelmed by negative reactions to some observations on the floor of the Senate, the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki on Thursday night held a secret meeting with the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. Investigation conducted by our correspondent revealed that the Senate President’s meeting with the Acting President was based on “some developments that occurred in the Senate during the week, including the suspension of consideration of further nominations by the Executive in protest against the retention of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, and the consequent threats of impeachment by some Senators. A source said: “The Senate President met with the Acting President. He actually came alone and without the paraphernalia of his office to underscore his commitment to rapprochement between the Executive and the National Assembly. “Saraki took the time to explain a few things to the Acting President, but the talks bordered on the clarification of a few misgivings, especially the rumor that he was planning to become the Acting President or instigating the Senate against the Presidency. “He also took time to explain why the Senate wanted its resolutions respected in line with the principle of separation of powers. “Above all, the session was actually frank.” Findings made by our correspondent also showed that Thursday’s meeting between Osinbajo and Saraki was preceded by a visit the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, paid the Acting President on Wednesday night. Before his visit to Osinbajo, Odigie-Oyegun was said to have reached out to the Senate leadership, asking them to prevail on warring senators to tread softly so as not to plunge the nation into unnecessary crisis. A government source said: “The APC National Chairman came at a time the Acting President was about to have a meeting with a select group of government officials. He was asked to join the meeting, which bordered on the battle line drawn by the Senate. “During the session, the APC National Chairman said he had interacted with Saraki and advised the Senate leadership and Senators to ‘lie low’ and avoid anything capable that was capable of plunging the nation into crisis. “Oyegun also said the APC could not understand why the party in power would be in opposition against itself. “No one can say if Oyegun’s intervention was responsible for the visit of the Senate President to Osinbajo.” There were indications yesterday that the Presidency had uncovered four planks on which the Senate is hinging its threats of impeachment. One of them is the running battle between the Presidency and the Senate over continued stay of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, in office. A reliable Presidency source said: “Intelligence report revealed that some senators have identified four issues to take the Presidency on. “These issues are insistence on the removal of Magu; the renewal of the row between the chamber and the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Col. Hamid Ali (rtd); the alleged denigrating comments of the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption(PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay and alleged constitutional breaches by the Acting President and the Presidency in general. “Although the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, told the party leadership that the impeachment kite caught him unawares and he swiftly overruled the senators behind it, intelligence report indicated that “it was a kite flying agenda” by some senators. “The government does not wholly believe the defense of the Senate leadership. It is closely monitoring events and putting safety valves in place, including legal dimension. “Part of the intelligence report showed that some senators had plotted the impeachment script before the Tuesday session. “Those who tabled the motion were actually not aware that the Acting President had returned to the country.” It was learnt at press time yesterday that some past leaders (names withheld) had teamed up with the Acting President against the threats from the Senate. “These leaders have told the Acting President to remain focused and ignore elements trying to cause political upheaval in the country. “In fact, they assured Osinbajo of their support. These are leaders who the government thought had identified with the Senate.” The tone for the impeachment process was set by two issues raised on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday. The Senate had on Tuesday taken exception to the retention of the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, and the Executive’s alleged non-compliance with the resolutions of the Senate. The President of the Senate had said: “This is an issue that we have to once and for all address. We cannot pass laws and see that the laws are not being obeyed. This resolution must be obeyed by the Acting President, otherwise, we will take appropriate actions and resolutions.” On the same day, Senators Eyinanya Abaribe and Kabiru Marafa had under Point of Order asked the Senate President to become Acting President in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Acting President, who was away for AU meeting in Addis Ababa. Marafa said: “If the President is not around, the Vice President should act, and if the Vice President is not around, the Senate President, who is the number 3 citizen should become Acting President.” http://saharareporters.com/2017/07/07/panicked-saraki-meets-osinbajo-presidency-uncovers-senate’s-plot-unseat-ag-president |
