And for what it's worth, more Americans voted for and wanted Hilary Clinton than Trump since she accumulated 3 million more votes than Trump. The electoral college saved Trump and if it was in Nigeria or in many other democracies around the world where it's one man one vote or where majority wins, Trump won't be the anywhere close to the white house.

But if Obama were doing well like you posited, his candidate wouldn't have lost the election with the power of incumbency, Obama played the racism card during his first campaign and a lot of people bought into it on the grounds that black American should be given a chance. As a result of which, Obama became the favourite candidate of most people in US and around the world. To this end, he was elected to bridge the divide between white and black in US and create a new mindset that will make all Americans see themselves as one. Today, Americans are more divided than ever! In his second campaign, he played gay card. And most people were of the opinion that he should be allowed to finish the second tenure and go for good. If his policies were good enough, his party and candidate would have been allowed to continue in power. Another word for Obama is failure!
