Foreign AffairsRe: U.S Navy Returns To Compass & Pencil For Navigation To Avoid Collision At Sea by Explorers(op): 12:14am On Sep 29, 2017
There have been four crashes this year.

In this incident, destroyer USS JohnS.

McCain is seen with a hole on its after a collision with an oil tanker outside Changi naval base in Singapore.

Ten US sailors were killed in the accident and five were injured after their destroyer collided with a tanker.

In another incident, the guided missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald collided with a Philippine-flagged container ship killing seven crew members.

The US Navy destroyer USS Fitzgerald collided with ACX Crystal cargo ship off the Japan coast.

The incidents will cost the US taxpayer about $600 million in repairs and put several ships out of service during a time of heightened regional tensions in the western Pacific and South China Sea.

At least four major accidents have occurred in the western Pacific this year.

The U.S. Navy has gone back to using compasses and pencils when it comes to navigating the high seas.

New orders were issued earlier this month after a number of deadly accidents this year.

A lack of sleep coupled with a 100-hour working week for many sailors means they're fatigued and placing far too much reliance on automated navigation systems which has led to careless and costly errors in which lives have been lost.

The huge stone was discovered by Vancouver-based company Lucara Diamond Corp in Botswana late 2015.

The diamond is named Lesedi La Rona which means ‘our light’ in Botswana’s Tswana language and first formed 2.5 to three billion years ago.

Laurence Graff, founder of Graff Diamonds said: ‘The stone will tell us its story, it will dictate how it wants to be cut.’

It could be cut into smaller gems for jewellery or left whole in a private collection.

A rough diamond the size of a tennis ball has sold for £40 million ($53 million).

The 1,109-carat stone, which is the world’s largest uncut diamond, was brought by high-profile British diamond dealer Graff Diamonds for $47,777 per carat and will now be cut and polished.

VANCOUVER (Reuters) - A tennis ball-sized rough diamond unearthed nearly two years ago by Canada’s Lucara Diamond Corp has been sold for $53 million, the Vancouver-based company said on Monday.

The 1,109-carat stone, which is the world’s largest uncut diamond, was bought by high-profile British diamond dealer Graff Diamonds for $47,777 per carat, and will now be cut and polished, Lucara said in a statement.

The price paid was an “improvement” on the highest bid received for the diamond at a Sotheby’s auction in June 2016, Lucara Chief Executive and President William Lamb said.

Lamb had gambled that ultra-rich collectors, who buy and sell precious art works for record-breaking sums at auction, would do the same with a diamond in the raw. The unprecedented bet failed when bids did not meet the auction reserve price and the diamond was not sold.

Lamb said in July the unsold stone “weighs heavily” on the company’s stock, which is down more than 40 percent in the past year.

The stone, named “Lesedi La Rona,” or “Our Light” in the national language of Botswana where it was mined at Lucara’s Karowe mine in November 2015, is said to be 2.5 to 3 billion years old.

The rough diamond is second in size only to the 3,106.75 carat Cullinan, which was cut into 105 diamonds, including several British Crown Jewels.

The Lesedi will “dictate how it wants to be cut, and we will take the utmost care to respect its exceptional properties,” Laurence Graff, founder of Graff Diamonds said in the statement.

They found themselves embroiled in a horrific bloodbath as they fought in the trenches during World War I.

Now new photographs have emerged that reveal the horrific facial injuries sustained during battle by brave soldiers and their astonishing transformations following plastic surgery.

The incredible black and white images have been released in a new book charting the early development of facial reconstruction.

It highlights the work of young surgeon Harold Gillies, who repaired the faces of those who were injured and shipped back home between 1914 and 1918.

Mr Gillies spent years restoring the dignity of men who had been prepared to sacrifice their lives.

His incredible skill saw him use a rib to reconstruct a jaw.

He also spent six years and 19 operations restoring a cheek, upper lip and nose of another soldier.

TravelI'm Not A Racist, It Was A Joke. British Airways Stewardess Responds(Photos) by Explorers(op): 3:35pm On Sep 26, 2017
https://www.nairaland.com/4079389/british-airways-stewardess-made-racist

The British Airways stewardess behind a racist Snapchat rant against Nigerian passengers demanding 'f***ing upgrades' is an aspiring actress who hunted for male company on the Plenty of Fish dating website, MailOnline can reveal.

Joanne Wickenden, being investigated by the airline, described herself as a 'Princess' who likes a laugh as she boasted about her job as a flight attendant on the site.

The 23-year-old, a member of mixed fleet cabin crew, sparked outrage after recording the racist clip in her BA uniform before flying from London Heathrow to Abuja on Friday night.

Ms Wickenden, who is believed to have been suspended, refused to comment about the video at the home she shares with her mother and father in Fareham, Hampshire.

But a close friend defended the flight attendant and told MailOnline the film was recorded by a BA colleague, saying: 'She's not racist, it was a joke between two friends.

It wasn't meant to be racist.

She is not saying she dislikes Nigerians and she's not saying that anyone is better than anyone else.'

The friend continued:

'The other colleague just wanted her to impersonate what goes on on the flight.

Albeit it was an inappropriate comment to make.

She's very upset because now the whole world knows her face and thinks she's a racist.

'It's like someone had a vendetta [by releasing the video] instead of filing the complaint in a normal way.

'Everything is still up in the air at the moment because of the investigation'.

But a former school friend added: 'I was disgusted, it's so embarrassing.

She was renowned for making inappropriate jokes at school.'

The 5ft 11 in air hostess says she has been single for two years as she boasted about her job on Plenty of Fish.

'I'm a flight attendant living in Crawley.

I've been single for 2 years now and miss a bit of male company,' she wrote.

'I'm outgoing, like to have a laugh and enjoy socialising.

I'm the sort of person where the little things mean the most.

Trust is a must! If you would like to find out more then pop me a message.

A source told MailOnline that the video which was captioned 'I can't cope with this flight' was circulated among 'horrified' BA cabin crew who are 'very concerned'.

Another shocked staff member said BA should apologise to its Nigerian passengers.

The airline launched an investigation into the controversial footage.

In a statement the company said: 'We expect the utmost professionalism from our staff when they are representing British Airways.

We are investigating this video.'

In the expletive-filled footage, Ms Wickenden said:

'All Nigerians are going to be asking for f****** upgrades' after claiming the men would need more leg room in an apparent joke about the size of their privates.

During the one-minute clip she also revealed how she was going to deal with passengers on the six-hour flight.

She said: 'Alright, so all of yous are there getting ready for your Friday night, getting in the pre-drinks, you know, as you do.

'And I'm here, getting ready to go to work, put on a yellow life jacket, point out the exits, hand out chicken or beef, what sort of Friday night is this for me?

'The upside is I'm going to Nigeria and there's gonna be bare B**, I'm joking, I'm joking.

'All the Nigerians are gonna be there like 'gimme Coca Cola, gimme me beef, why you have no beef left? I want beef.'

'And I'm just gonna be there like, 'Sorry sir, we ran out of beef'.

'All the Nigerians are gonna be there asking for f****** upgrades because they haven't got enough leg room because their B**s are in their way.

Big d**** like this swinging from side to side.'

An airline source told MailOnline: 'My friend was horrified. BA has a culture of dealing with things like this internally, she passed it to me because she was concerned that nothing was done.'

A man was found dead with a cassette recorder in one hand and a gun in the other.

When the police came in, they immediately pressed the play button on the cassette.

He said “I have nothing else to live for.

I can’t go on,” then the sound of a gunshot.

After listening to the cassette tape, the police knew that it was not a suicide.

On a cold winter night, a man named Jack was found dead in his house.

He was found by his friend John.

He said that he was passing by Jack’s house and wanted to visit him.

He knocked and rang the bell for a really long time, but there was no answer.

Then he decided to remove the ice from the windows to look inside.

He did that by breathing on the iced window glass.

That is how he was able to see Jack’s body and to call the police.

The next day, police arrested John as their prime suspect.

A serial killer kidnapped his victims, held them hostage and offered them a possibility to stay alive.

They had to choose from two pills.

One was poison, other was harmless.

Whichever pill the victim took, the serial killer would take the other one.

The victim took their pill with water and died.

The killer obviously survived.

How did the killer always end up with the harmless pill?
