Culture / Re: Raising Your Children The Nigerian Way When Married To A Foreigner by exu(m): 8:17pm On Apr 17, 2006
A thread on how Nigerians raise their children- https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-9657.0.html

I'd like to hear some of your views.

Thanks.
Religion / Re: What Is The Significance Of Easter? by exu(m): 3:45pm On Apr 17, 2006
seeing as Seun hasn't read this thread or noticed the error in the title, I politely suggest that the initiator change the title:
"What is the significance of Easter?"

Also, for those complaining about what I said- please tell me how/if what I said was untrue.

You should be grateful that I even aknowledge the story of Christ- I could just dismiss it as a fairytale.
Religion / Re: What Is The Significance Of Easter? by exu(m): 1:44pm On Apr 17, 2006
It's the day when Christians celebrate the suicide of their God.

After all he planned everything that has and will ever happen.
Religion / Re: Stones Of Fire: Courtesy Of Dr. Daniel K. Olukoya by exu(m): 12:52pm On Apr 16, 2006
We should have a discussion on being concise.

I'm sure that's in the Bible somewhere.
Religion / Should A Christian Commit Suicide In Order To Be Closer To God? by exu(m): 12:41pm On Apr 16, 2006
I know personally that if I loved someone I would do anything in order to be with them.

So, should Christians kill themselves so as to reap the rewards of their faithfulness a little earlier than expected?

After all, an eternity with the Almighty God is what you guys want, right?
Politics / Re: Why Do You Behave Like You Hate Nigeria So Much? by exu(m): 5:42pm On Apr 14, 2006
Seun should consider deleting this thread.
TV/Movies / Re: Things We've Learnt From Nollywood by exu(m): 11:57am On Apr 14, 2006
This may be off topic but could someone please explain this

Intellectual illiterates

What exactly is an intellectual illiterate? Saying it's an oxymoron is not an explanation.

So?
Politics / Re: Why Do You Behave Like You Hate Nigeria So Much? by exu(m): 11:51am On Apr 14, 2006
This post is evidently in the wrong section, with the wrong heading to boot.

If you want to rant about 'god' then go to the section titled 'Religion'.
Family / Re: Under-18 Domestic Servants Banned In Nigeria by exu(m): 5:38pm On Apr 13, 2006
I do believe that Seun has touched on the issue - birth rate.

The economy, by all accounts is growing, unfortunately population growth in Nigeria currently outstrips economic growth.

The only way in which we will ever be able to see the full benefits of a free market economy is by doing something about the ridiculously high birth rate. This means basic family planning and an increase in the availability of contraception.

Hopefully when the above happens then people will see that children are not a 'sign of wealth/prosperity' but a privilege/responsibility and should be treated accordingly.

A country who's population doubles every 40 years is not sustainable. Anyone who says otherwise is blind to the facts.

I see this went over somebodies head. smiley
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Why Are English Players Addicted To Betting? by exu(m): 10:09pm On Apr 11, 2006
Very much a cultural thing.

But you have to remember that these guys do not live a normal life. They can't go to places without attracting attention- negative and positive. And like you, they also need to be able to unwind.
Nairaland / General / Re: What Is Your "English" Name? by exu(m): 10:02pm On Apr 11, 2006
Who told you all Nigerians have English names?

I've lived in England my whole life and I don't have an 'English name'.
Religion / Re: Politicians And Pastors: The Two Things Holding Nigeria Back! by exu(m): 6:43pm On Apr 11, 2006
This is a good thread.

If I were President, or someone in a position of power I would lobby hard to ensure that churches/religious/moneyspinning groups paid tax.

Of course my argument would be biblical- Jesus is purported to have said that Caesar (the authorities) should be given his financial due.

To be honest, the only way I can think of in which to decrease dependency on religious groups is to increase the level of trust in the state.
Family / Re: How Nigerians Raise Their Children by exu(m): 8:05pm On Apr 09, 2006
Wow, thirty-four viewings and no input.

Interesting.
Religion / Re: When a Pastor Uses 'Gods Money' For a Life of Luxury by exu(m): 4:33pm On Apr 08, 2006
If what you say about Rick Warren is true then that is commendable.

However, as unfair as this may sound, shouldn't that be the norm for pastors? I mean, even though I don't believe in the Christian message I was always under the impression that it was about love- being kind to thy neighbour, being charitable, being selfless etc.

I would have far less of a problem with religious institutions if I heard more stories of them genuinely trying to uplift the standard of living for the general population, not just a chosen few.

You guys sure do like your soap operas.
Religion / Re: 'pastor's Wife Died In Lover's House', Is It True? by exu(m): 6:10pm On Apr 05, 2006
1. Infidelity is not a new phenomenon-  even amongst the 'self-anointed'.

2. The breaking of marriage vows is something that takes place all over the globe- Lagos is not a factor in why this happened.

What's the point of democracy if there is no credibility, and subsequently, accountability?
Business / Business Ideas For Nigerian In UK With Contacts In Nigeria by exu(m): 2:53pm On Apr 03, 2006
Let's do some brainstorming. Ideas especially from those of you still in Nigeria would be most helpful.

If you were based in the UK but had connections/family still in the important cities in Nigeria (Abuja, Lagos, Calabar, Port Harcourt) what would you do to take advantage of your situation, financially speaking.

Any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks.
Business / Re: Harrods, Wal-mart, Mc Donald´s And Others Head For Tinapa City In Nigeria by exu(m): 2:49pm On Apr 03, 2006
I look forward to seeing this on my next trip.  Here's hoping.

Seems as though most of the major developments in Nigeria are happening in the south east.

p.s.
Is the basic infrastructure i.e. well maintained roads, phone lines and electricity in place yet?
Family / How Nigerians Raise Their Children by exu(m): 12:34pm On Apr 03, 2006
So today I was reading an article/discussion on the BBC website on african families and was curious to know what people on here thought. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/4864496.stm)

The question: Whether the burden of responsibility placed on the eldest children, especially in larger families, is acceptable.

My questions:
Is it right that people have more children than they can manage and push the responsibility of raising children unto their eldest?

Is failing to plan the number of children that you can succesfully look after a good way to teach responsibility?

Is the way in which we raise and treat our children (in Nigeria) a cause for concern?

Is the way in which Nigerian families are 'managed' responsible for the problems we see in the country?

Thanks for reading. I look forward to your comments.
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 4:57pm On Apr 01, 2006
My apologies.

You make it sound as though homosexuality is some kind of illness. Why?
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 4:37pm On Apr 01, 2006
So you would tell people that 'Jesus' is condemning.

On what grounds would you claim that 'Jesus' has condemned them?
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 4:22pm On Apr 01, 2006
I don't think we've got to the crux of this issue, yet.

If you were a dictator what you would you do about the issue.
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 4:07pm On Apr 01, 2006
Because what you see is what you become.

Do you actually believe that people become gay because they see their elders in same sex relationships?
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 3:44pm On Apr 01, 2006
So it's better to 'pound' a woman's anus than a man's- aren't they both 'full of shit'?

You keep bringing up the issue of the child- not all gay men have/want children- is it still the world's problem then if two gay males have relations?
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 3:21pm On Apr 01, 2006
Doesn't matter.

1. Scientific proof tells us that no one (or at least very few people) consciously chooses to become gay. Most homosexuals are born gay.

2. You spoke of your disgust at people who have anal sex- does this include married (straight) couples. Why is it your business what they do?
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 3:12pm On Apr 01, 2006
You appear to have more to say on homosexuality than on any of the other issues.

Care to retract this statement:

homosexuality was just one of the things on that list. don't reduce it to that. Even though that in'ts self is one of the greatest deceptions known to man.
Nairaland / General / Re: Cowardly Nigerians by exu(m): 3:09pm On Apr 01, 2006
The current government in Brazil came about because the people were BRAVE enough to protest against bad and corrupt leadership- Simple.

Brazil is probably the worst example you could use of a people overthrowing a government and changing the status quo.

If you've read the news lately you'll know that Brazilians are still suffering under a corrupt government.
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 2:57pm On Apr 01, 2006
The man becomes a wife. He anus is pounded daily. but of course he wasn't built to have kids .

I'm sorry, I read this and then broke out laughing- what was the purpose of such a graphic description?

You've paraphrased an article complaining about media 'pollution' and then gone and done the same thing.
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 2:42pm On Apr 01, 2006
I have no idea what you're talking about with regards to machines designed to end human life- could you post an article of some sort?

Thanks.

What I do know is that There are laws in Europe to refuse treatment that could prolong your life when sick. Voluntary euthanasia is no more than forgoing modern medicine and dying with dignity.

I also know that in some situations it is better to die than endure endless pain. Not everything is black-and-white, but it takes an open minded person to see that.

p.s.
Why don't you tell me in your own words what it is about homosexuality that you want to talk about.
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 2:21pm On Apr 01, 2006
read up on machines developed in Europe to assist in legal sucide.

Do you mean guns because they've been around for nigh on a millenia my friend.

Seriously, I had no idea what you were talking about with regards to drugs and sports stars- the way it was worded made it sound as though 'sports heroes' were promoting drugs in some sort of official capacity.

As for the homosexuality issue. Here's what you said last when I brought it up:

homosexuality was just one of the things on that list. don't reduce it to that. Even though that in'ts self is one of the greatest deceptions known to man.

Make up your mind what it is you want to talk about.

Thanks.
