Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 12:00pm On Apr 01, 2006
I would make it socially acceptable to take one's own life, and invent
machines to make it convenient
- which machines are you talking about?

I would come up with drugs that sedate the mind and target the young, and I
would get sports heroes to advertise them;
- which drugs and which 'sports heroes' are you talking about?
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 11:41am On Apr 01, 2006
It's unfortunate that some of the things on that list happen.

For example:

I would promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of
the other way around;

I would convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to
leadership;

I would attack the family, the backbone of any nation. I would make
divorce acceptable and easy, even fashionable. If the family crumbles, so
does the nation;

But a lot of the things on the list are ambigious and/or necessary.

No one is made to watch T.V.- the media is built on what makes money.

As for the issue of marriage- isn't possible that it has been destroyed as an institution because it's so easy to enter into? People usually end up getting divorced shortly after marriage because they don't know the person they are marrying as well as they should.

Taking 'God' out of schools? How would you like it if you or your children were forced to follow someone else's religion?

That seems to be the main point of the article- forcing others to live by your religious laws.
Politics / Re: Taylor Arrives Sierra Leone (pictures) by exu(m): 1:17pm On Mar 31, 2006
Seriously, how is this in any way an embarrassment for the Nigerian military?
Religion / Re: I Were Satan This What I Would Do by exu(m): 6:54pm On Mar 30, 2006
i would convince people to be homosexual and that i  didnt exist. it makes so much sense.

Do you actually believe that the problems we see in the world are due to homosexuality?

Does religion genuinely make anywhere/anything better?
Religion / Re: The World Is Coming To An End by exu(m): 9:33am On Mar 30, 2006
I was under the impression that your God was all powerful- don't you guys teach that God controls everything?

Or, are you saying that God is displeased with himself?
Culture / Re: Yorubas In Nigeria That Can't Speak Yoruba by exu(m): 7:19pm On Mar 29, 2006
I'm seeing a lot of blanket statements in this thread that aren't true, in the least.

I know plenty of people who are of Asia descent who have never been taught their so called 'mother tongue'.
Music/Radio / Re: "The Sad Truth About Hip Hop" <chain letter> by exu(m): 4:21pm On Mar 29, 2006
I'm still laughing.

Probably more so now.
Religion / Re: Why Does God Keep Silent? by exu(m): 6:12pm On Mar 02, 2006
, He has a creation far more better than a mouth

Really?

Please share. What is it?
Religion / Re: Religion Befuddles The Mind, Its : Mindless. =/ by exu(m): 5:31pm On Mar 02, 2006
It's evident (to me at least) that Christianity has been used as an example here. As the 'dominant religion' it is one which most people know something about.

The sad thing about this guy's thread is that there is more than an element of truth in it.
Religion / Re: Religion Befuddles The Mind, Its : Mindless. =/ by exu(m): 11:16am On Mar 02, 2006
I'm sorry that you have suffered due to so-called 'religious violence'.

But he isn't saying that Christianity is the reason behind the violence, more that religion and the concept behind religion (in general) do not help mankind.
Crime / Re: Why Are So Many Nigerians Fraudulent? by exu(m): 2:28pm On Mar 01, 2006
If you think it's only Nigerians involved in fraudulent activities then you are sadly mistaken, it's the way of the world.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Suicide Bombing: What Islam Says by exu(m): 1:58pm On Mar 01, 2006
Suicide is the most desperate of human acts.

Also, remember that one man's "terrorist" is another man's "freedom fighter".
Religion / Re: Why Does God Keep Silent? by exu(m): 1:53pm On Mar 01, 2006
You can't talk if you don't have a mouth.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Is Samuel Eto'o A Monkey? by exu(m): 1:23pm On Mar 01, 2006
I wouldn't pay too much attention to it, fact is people who think like that do so because such people are:

a) none too bright

b) very easily threatened

c) envious, of everything and everyone
Culture / Re: Can You Marry An Ijebu Lady? by exu(m): 3:54pm On Feb 28, 2006
It's just a perception about Ijebu ladies that they don't stay in their husband's house and again if the hus is rich they might induced him to death especially if he's rich and not faithful.
they are prepared to kill him and get away with his money.

You could say that about women from any part of the globe.

People are people.

You guys are silly.
Religion / Re: Refuting Monotheism: God Does Not Exist by exu(m): 11:28am On Feb 28, 2006
To the point that the atheist categorically makes the claim that God does NOT exist, he is required to prove his assertions. So far, I have not got any line in the replies to that effect; and that's why my submission is that no believer owes any atheist any proof in as much as the atheist himself is unable to validate his own claims in any concrete way other than with his mouth

I would love to simply point out that the argument that you have presented works both ways. However there is a problem with that; religion has been a cause of tension, killing and social problems since the dawn of civilisation. Unprovable claims made in the name of a being no man can see.

How much is 90,000 naira in pounds (anyone)?
Sports / Nations Cup '96 Question. by exu(m): 2:16pm On Feb 27, 2006
Does anyone remember/know why Nigeria withdrew from the Nations Cup in South Africa in 1996?

How much would a new PSP cost in Lagos?
Religion / Re: Lifelong Atheist Changes Mind About Divine Creator by exu(m): 10:55am On Feb 22, 2006
1. "does not" is always a negative. You cannot prove a negative.

2. 'atheists' have not not made any claims other than to refute the claims made by deists (specifically those of a religious nature) as to the existence of God and the the evidence (or lack thereof).
Religion / Re: The World Is Coming To An End by exu(m): 10:46am On Feb 22, 2006
Unfortunately there is no link to the revelant Bible passage within the link you posted.

But I did notice that the person who wrote that page used the words 'believe' and 'assume' quite a lot.
Religion / Re: Lifelong Atheist Changes Mind About Divine Creator by exu(m): 10:21am On Feb 22, 2006
You might want to rethink this little claim:

but to make a claim that something* does not exist sounds more like an affirmative
Religion / Re: The World Is Coming To An End by exu(m): 12:39am On Feb 22, 2006
I've played this game before.

Until I see some explicit names and dates I'll treat this as the joke that it is.

The saddest part of all this is that people will continue to teach this to their children and then wonder why the world is such a mess.
Politics / Re: President Of The Christian Association Of Nigeria Reacts by exu(m): 12:29am On Feb 22, 2006
These riots have:

a) little to do with religion.

b) even less to do with the cartoons.
Religion / Re: The World Is Coming To An End by exu(m): 12:21am On Feb 22, 2006
1) Events are occurring around the world. (2) The Bible made prophecies about certain events that would occur during the last days. (3) The events occurring right now look remarkably similar to the events the Bible prophesied.

The reason such 'prophecies' appear to be coming to pass is because they are so vague to begin with.

It's just stupid claims like "tomorrow the sun will come out".
Religion / Re: Lifelong Atheist Changes Mind About Divine Creator by exu(m): 10:55am On Feb 21, 2006
All that article shows is someone who has changed his stance from staunch atheist to an agnostic.

You can't prove a negative, so the openess to the possibility of a higher power is logical.
Religion / Re: Lifelong Atheist Changes Mind About Divine Creator by exu(m): 4:19pm On Feb 20, 2006
Read it properly, he says nothing to support your ideals. He essentially says that religion has got it wrong.

No suprise there.
Religion / Re: Lifelong Atheist Changes Mind About Divine Creator by exu(m): 4:14pm On Feb 20, 2006
I think you forgot to mention one small detail:

"I'm thinking of a God very different from the God of the Christian and far and away from the God of Islam, because both are depicted as omnipotent Oriental despots, cosmic Saddam Husseins,"

Fine, if Jesus Christ is coming then lets make a bet- for everything you possess.

If Jesus comes within ten years then I go to hell and you can say 'I told you so'.

But, if there's no sign of Jesus after ten years then I want it all; your house; your car; your spouse; your children- everything!

Thank you and good day.
Religion / Re: Any Non-Religious People In Nigeria? by exu(m): 11:32am On Feb 20, 2006
Just think how much better the world would be if more people thought like this:

Tai Solarin wrote: ‘ My allegiance is to man. Locally to the Nigerian; universally to humanity.’
