"original sin"- sounds like people are being punished for 'daring' to be born... |
to live? |
once upon a time women weren't allowed to own property either... i'm sure there's something in the Bible about that too... (jeez) |
I don't know much about Ghana but I've met a lot of Ghanians who have lived in Nigeria and Ghana who would wholly disagree with you. |
So many long posts against pastors.aren't pastors also human ![]() your point applies (also) to those who make claims based on superstition... |
i don't think it's that either... they're just sickos... but i'm pretty sure belonging to a group that refuses to accept homosexuals as fellow human beings doesn't help... |
i'd rather they marry than take out their sexual frustration on children... |
good thread kazey... thanks... |
this thread made me laugh... good work guys. |
Of course goodguy, although I'm sure that you realise that the reason the Devil cannot repent is because (some would say ) he doesn't exist... |
If the devil repented wouldn't that make a mockery of all the predictions made in the Bible ![]() |
@ goodguy: have you ever, at any stage in your life, questioned what the church has taught you ![]() |
I don't like people smoking around me and I'm not a woman.. |
the onus of proof lies on the person making the allegation to come forward with the said proof to substantiate his or her claims. thank you. |
I've always taken the word 'Atheist' to mean: One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods. an outright denial of anything greater than what we can see. Personally I don't care, most atheists I know are what I prefer to call 'free thinkers'... |
a would like a country that doesn't divide itself along 'tribal' lines' (or religious ones for that matter)... i'd like a nigeria where education is received from professionals in well equipped schools and well funded universities, not from the pulpit... i'd like a nigeria where education is placed 1st and everyone has an equal chance of success... i'd like a nigeria where the leaders are the most educated, not the most religious or most well connected and held accountable for their actions... i'd like a nigeria that helps her neighbours during times of hardship... i'd like a nigeria where the people respect their women...a place where daughters aren't sold into marriage, a place where wives aren't beaten... p.s. i sincerely hope that nigeria doesn't become like america, i hope we learn from the mistakes made there: no universal healthcare... ethnic strife and widespread discrimination... a huge underclass... corruption...(if an illegal war isn't corruption then i don't know what is) we already have these problems, let's find our own way...nigeria is not america, nor would i ever want it to be... p.p.s. i hope for a nigeria that doesn't place a monetary value upon everything... |
maybe it's just me but atheism appears to require as much 'belief' as a religion (say Islam or Christianity)... To say that current ideas on 'God' are misguided/wrong isn't hard, the evidence is there...but to say that there isn't something out there that is greater than us, something that man has not thought of yet requires a lot of faith in oneself... |
thank you for your very well thought out answer chrisd... it's always good to see people think before they reply... i have a few issues I'd like to raise with you on what you said, unfortunately I can't do that right now... once again, thanks... you wrote in depth AND answered my question...I commend you. |
i apologise if i appear irritated but... there are things being said that have nothing to do with this thread (see above). |
God as we know it implies the Father, the Son and the Holy GhostAgain, untrue. Even in the Bible this is not true; the Bible was written by Jews who did not hold the same ideas about God as Christians do...for them there is only God (singular). Contrary to what you have claimed the term 'god' so as to avoid confusion has always been used in reference to a sole deity... Also: when we see inconsistencies in the word of God, i repeat the inconsistencies reside in our unfruitful knowledge of God, and his word. What exactly is this 'unfruitful' knowledge of God and where did we gain our 'unfruitful' knowledge ![]() p.s. the word 'god' is never, ever used as a verb...ever. |
once again, if you think the word 'god' is a verb then you should really consider the meaning of the word 'verb'... can we get back on topic please... |
at no point have i said i'm an atheist... you assume too much... |
just admit you don't know and let someone else have a go.... |
so now the word 'god' is a verb ![]() wow. |
exu dear, the word God or god means the ability and capacity to create and recreateNo. It doesn't. Try again. p.s. god n 1: the supernatural being conceived as the perfect and omnipotent and omniscient originator and ruler of the universe; the object of worship in monotheistic religions [syn: God, Supreme Being] 2: any supernatural being worshipped as controlling some part of the world or some aspect of life or who is the personification of a force [syn: deity, divinity, immortal] 3: a man of such superior qualities that he seems like a deity to other people; "he was a god among men" 4: a material effigy that is worshipped as a god; "thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image"; "money was his god" |
Why shouldn't I ask? |
But i was under the understanding that there were/are no other gods but 'God'...or have Christians ditched that part of their doctrine ![]() p.s. thanks for your input Seun. |
Ok, goodguy 1) who is we? 2) what have "we" said that would lead to you think that "we" believe in God? thanks. p.s. the existence (or not) of any higher power still doesn't detract from the fact that the Bible was written by incredibly ignorant men (by modern standards) and is full of inaccuracies... |
of course they are... have you heard the rumour that Jesus was gay? |

) he doesn't exist...
there are things being said that have nothing to do with this thread (see above).
