So that's 'the state (public) and the king', or 'the public as the king'?

then how come it is the same ika that is also more influenced by bini culture than the other igbo groups in the east? so who is to say ika is more nri than edo? and if u read agbontaen essays their language is very edoid. in fact my agbor foreman told me they call oil - ofigbon which is also the edo word for oil. and he said when they celebrate igue festival, they chant iyare iyare just like edo people.
There's no such thing as the 'Igue' festival in Ika, well in Agbor anyway, if there is I'd like to see proof (pictures, news stories, videos). I believe it's a lie made up on the internet by someone we know well.

exotik:
lmao!! and u forgot to add orisakwe.

btw, where is ezeagu who asked me to swear on my "yoruba" gods, forgetting that igbos also worship the same yoruba gods.
I never denied there was influence from Benin, on the other hand olisa names are restricted to a part of Igbo land.

exotik:
how could u forget that? and the jewish link is also through the same nri/eri. so where did nri come from? was he really a jew? or was he oduduwa? or was he ikhime? methinks he was ikhime and i have given reasons why in my old post.
See how you're jumping through time and pinning people together. Eri is supposed to have lived 1100-1200 years ago, Odudwa is 900 years ago I thin, and Eze Chima founded Onicha Mmili around 500 years. Unless you want to twist and contest these facts like you're twisting Eze Chima's name?

Please, people should not insult whole communities, be specific about who you're talking about, after all some natives of Onicha (Mmili) said they're not Igbo.
CultureRe: Origin Of Various Igbo Clans by ezeagu(m): 12:32am On Jul 11, 2011
I don't know if the origin of the name Ika has been posted here:

Origin of the name Ika

Although earlier colonial documents have referred to the present Ika people as Ika speaking people (Marshall 1936, Whiting 1936, Simpson 1936, Denton 1937, and Stanfield 1936), the present Ika people have not always been the only group known by the name, Ika. Forde and Jones (1967) used the term Ika for a wider community, which included the present Ika group. Ika was used by Forde and Jones (1967) to represent the inland parts of the four groups that make up the western Igbo group (Aniocha, Oshimili, Ika and Ukwuani) found in present Delta State away from the shores of the river Niger. The remaining members of these groups that are on the shores of the river Niger i.e. Asaba, Aboh and others were referred to as Riverain Ibo (Forde and Jones 1967: 49-50). Within this Ika group the present Ika community was classified as Northern Ika along with Aniocha and Oshimili while the Ukwuani group was classified as Southern Ika (Forde and Jones 1967). However the origin and meaning of the name Ika and when only the present Ika community and their language began to be known and referred to by that name, which they retain until today, is not clear.

Why are Igbo people Nigerians terrorising South Africans?

South Sudan didn't win her freedom in cyberspace but in harsh reality. I see her present situation as comparable to 9ja at independence - great potential yet lots of internal wrangling. I hope they don't go the way of 9ja. Meanwhile our cyber-warriors could follow the lead of South Sudan by shutting down their laptops, desktops, BBs and handsets, and picking up their weapons and moving to the battlefield. If not, all these talks about breaking up WILL only remain wishful thinking.
Nigeria was comparable to Sudan not South Sudan. Nigeria will break and/or a civil war will erupt.

The Edo and Ika (and the rest of Anioma) are similar to the French and the English. The English have adopted a lot of language, government and art from the French, but till today England and France are known to be oil and water (well, England and anybody is really oil and water, but you understand). Don't listen to agborntaen, or whoever, because it would be a long time till hell freezes over that a true Ika chief would bow to being a Bini man (especially an Agbor chief). By the way the hilarious thing about all this is that Bini people call anything from the Ossiomo river and easterly 'Ovbi Igbo' or is it 'Owi Igbo'. That pretty much end's the argument because this is the truth.

@ezeagu,
dat is what im telling u dat they are not binis. the edo people wit names that are "yorubic" are not binis. they have their distinct dialect, eg usen.
binis that may have yoruba names are those who are married to yoruba people. maybe their mum or someone in their family is from one of the yoruba states. but no proper bini family have a "yorubic" name in their family, they all have bini names.
So the struggle all us have when we see a Yoruba name only to find out the person is Bini does not exist? It's clear that you see how stupid your logic is when the tables were flipped. Try that naming nonsense again and I'll move on to Yoruba gods in Edoland, after that it's straight to Ewuare and then finally Oduduwa.

i am usen, and we don't have yoruba names, we have usen names and we are edo people. if yoruba people happen to share same name with usen people, it does not mean we are yorubas coz
our usen identity is way older than the contemporary european created yoruba identity, so if anything, it is yorubas that should be claiming to identify as usen not the other way road. same way the ika identity is way older than the contemporary european identity, so it should be igbos who be claiming to identify as ika not the other way round. usen people are not yorubas same way as ika people are not igbos.
All I'm reading is nothing but excuses. Are there a significant amount of Bini people with what are known to be Yoruboid names or not?

exotik:
and the yoruba and igbo identity are bogus ones as far as im concerned.
Really has nothing to do with Bini people with Yoruba (non-Edoid) names. Guess much of your people have names that have nothing to do with the rest of Edo people. grin
