PoliticsYoruba Muslims Attack Gov. Makinde For Protesting Against Buhari by Ezeama400(op):
Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has lambasted the South West for joining protests against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari on June 12.

Recall that Nigerians in the Southern part of the country, particularly the South West, marked the June 12 Democracy Day on Saturday, with demonstrations.

The protesters clashed with men of the Police in different cities as they were bent on stopping the protests from happening.

MURIC frowned at the protests, referring to the protesters as certificated ingrates, rebellious subjects and articulated enemies of peace.

Boko Haram: Islamic group defends Pantami over alleged link with terrorists

MURIC argued that the protesters have no moral ground to protest on June 12 since it was President Muhammadu Buhari alone who gave official recognition to that day when all past rulers had refused to do so.

MURIC’s position was contained in a statement signed by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola and made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

He said, “Some Nigerians in the Southern part of the country, particularly the South West marked Independence Day on Saturday, June 12, 2021 with demonstrations. Although in negligible numbers, the protests took place in Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan and a few other places.

“We commend the police for handling the protests with maturity and professionalism as no casualties or brutalities were reported. However, the protesters exposed themselves as certificated ingrates, unrepentant rebellious subjects and articulated enemies of peace.

“June 12 should be a day for all Nigerians to celebrate Chief M.K.O. Abiola for his sacrifices on the altar of democracy. He was the man who paid the supreme sacrifice after winning the presidential election held on June 12, 1993 which was criminally annulled by the military.

“The Nigerian civil society, including MURIC, had been clamouring for the official recognition of that day as Democracy Day but none of our past rulers listened, not even Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who hails from the same city of Abeokuta like M.K.O. The former had all the chance in the world to declare June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day having ruled for eight years (1999 – 2007) but he bluntly refused to do so.

“It was a northerner, a Fulani, President Muhammadu Buhari, who eventually proclaimed June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day. It is our contention that for that alone, the people of the South West should show gratitude to Buhari. But what do we see?

“It was demonstrations galore. The most shameful, most reprehensible and most preposterous was the open participation of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State who marched on the streets of Ibadan with protesters chanting ‘Buhari Must Go’.

“It is most naïve for a sitting executive governor who came into office riding on the back of democracy to join a group seeking the removal of a democratically elected president through undemocratic means. It was a great disservice to the memory of M.K.O. Abiola. Seyi Makinde is an ingrate nulli secundus. He should apologise to Nigerians for his immature behaviour.

“Those protesters definitely missed the point and lost their bearing because Nigerians, particularly people of the South West, should be showing gratitude to Buhari for declaring June 12 as Democracy Day instead of partaking in an unnecessary protest.

“The Qur’an gives immense honour to those who appreciate goodness. Allah says, ‘If you are grateful, I will increase my favours on you. But if you disbelieve, certainly my punishment is indeed severe’ (Glorious Qur’an 14:7).

“On his way to Jerusalem, while passing between Samaria and Galilee, Jesus (may peace be upon him) was met by ten lepers who begged him to heal them. Although he cured them all, only one of them, a Samaritan, a ‘foreigner’, came back to show gratitude and he was asked, ‘Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine?’ (Luke 17:11-17).

“As if in response to this rhetorical question, a larger group of demonstrators gathered in Abuja to show solidarity with Buhari. They drummed, sang and danced. These are ‘the nine’ and we commend them for their wisdom, boldness and patriotism.

“MURIC calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore those who are ungrateful to him. He should continue his good work. We ask him to reflect on the words of Allah where He said, ‘What does Allah stand to gain if you show gratitude and belief? Allah is the One who shows gratitude (i.e. Allah is the One who knows how to reward good deeds) and He knows everything’ (Glorious Qur’an 4:147).

“Therefore, our message to Mr. President is this: Just continue your good works. Expect no gratitude from some Nigerians. But many others appreciate you. Most importantly, Allah will definitely reward you here in this world and yaom al-Qiyamah (in the Hereafter).

PoliticsThousands Of Herdsmen With AK47 Invade Ondo State by Ezeama400(op):
Over two truckloads of Fulani herdsmen armed with AK-47s have arrived in Igoba Community in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

A source, who spoke with SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity, said the two truckloads of herdsmen entered the town in the wee hours of Thursday.

He also alleged that they were all armed with AK-47 rifles, arriving at the remote part of the town which is basically surrounded by bushes.

He said, “This morning around 3 am, two trailers filled with a troop of Fulani men armed with AK-47s entered the town.

“The Fulani herdsmen have captured Igoba, in Akure North, they plan to attack, they came in their numbers. That place is not that developed, it's basically surrounded by bush. The Fulani herdsmen have even become indigenes at Igoba, they live there, speak Yoruba fluently, they are the ones providing accommodation to the ones who just arrived.

“Aside from that, early this morning, in another part of Akure, at Oja Oba market, the Fulani herdsmen attacked some women. The Fulani herdsmen were in Army uniforms but they are not soldiers, they struck some with knives, they injured people but they didn't stay for long, they did what they wanted to do and left.

“Please, we want the government to come to our aid, the security agencies should also rise to their duties. People should not die for nothing.”

SaharaReporters earlier reported how residents of Adeoye, Akinrimisi and Ajaye in Ondo Town, Ondo State expressed fear as they had observed Fulani herdsmen in their numbers invading their areas with weapons and setting up hideouts for an imminent attack.

SaharaReporters learnt that the Fulani herdsmen attacked one of the areas on Monday night up till Tuesday morning, in a “test-run” as residents lamented that the police and the soldiers deployed in their area only extort money from motorists and turn their backs on the attackers.

The sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra witnessed partial compliance in parts of Rivers State on Monday.

The directive by the IPOB was in honour of the Igbo people who died during the civil war in Nigeria.

At the popular Ikoku Spare Parts Market in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of the state, shops were seen closed but with the shop owners hanging around their shops.

In Rumuola in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of the state, few shops were seen under lock while the express way witnessed low vehicular movement.

In Rumuokoro area of the same local government, commercial activities went on without hindrance as traders explained that the current hardship across the country forced them to open for business.

One of the traders said “Why should everybody stay at home? It’s something that should be peaceful and people can do at will and should not be violent.”

Meanwhile, in Oyibo Local Government Area, the directive appeared to have witnessed high compliance as streets were deserted with commercial activities grounded.

The development also affected transportation services with some commercial drivers complaining of low patronage.

One of the commercial drivers who identified himself as Lucky Emene complained that “Since 7:30 am I have been at the Eleme junction and there are no passengers to take off. The whole place is scanty and no vehicle is coming from Aba or Obigbo. A lot of people are scared to come out”

Nigerian billionaire, Olu Okeowo has declared his opposition to the break up of Nigeria.

The real estate magnate warned that if the succession plan succeeds, the South-West region will lose out.

Daily Times reports that Okeowo made the remark while speaking at a church service organized in his home to mark his birthday.

Okeowo said he noticed electricity is no longer in abundant supply because the Shiroro and Gerreru Plants have been “surrounded”.

“Electricity is being generated in the North. Those who are saying divide don’t know what they are saying.

“Even if we divide today, the gas that they would use to run any turbine comes from another area.

“The Southwest will be the ones to lose out most because what we have produced mostly are area boys and fake pastors. We need to pray for the unity of Nigeria,” he said.

Several groups are agitating for the division of the country, insisting it remains the only solution to the country’s problems

PoliticsGod Should Kill Children, Wives Of Elders Who Don't Support Oduduwa Nation.. by Ezeama400(op): 9:36pm On May 09, 2021
Popular Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, more commonly called Sunday Igboho, has said he will not offer his condolences to Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, over the sudden death of his son, Pastor Dare Adeboye, because the cleric refused to support the Yoruba nation.

Sunday Igboho said he would not greet or sympathise with Adeboye or anyone who refused to champion the course of Yoruba nation.

Igboho in an interview did not mince words when he rained curses on any leader or pastor who refuses to support the secession agenda, saying God would kill their children and wives.

He said this during a live Facebook broadcast with his media aide, Olayomi Koiki, on Saturday night.

Koiki had asked the activist to send some words to Adeboye through the live video, to sympathise with him over the death of his son.

But, Sunday Igboho appeared infuriated by Koiki’s request as he asked if the man of God had declared his support for Yoruba nation.

He said, “Has Baba supported Yoruba nation that we will now be greeting him? We don’t need to greet Adeboye. What is my own with that? We are not doing church here. This is not religion.

“Pastor Adeboye didn’t speak about Yoruba nation. Look at the number of crowd in Baba Adeboye’s church. Is he not supposed to tell all of them to join Yoruba nation? We don’t need to greet him.

“God himself will start asking questions from all the enemies of the Yoruba race. By the grace of God, anybody who says Yoruba will not get to the promised land, God will kill their children and wives and their entire family.

“Anybody who does not support Yoruba nation, those who have powers, be it pastors or anybody that has the followers, but does not support Yoruba nation, God, I call on you; you’re the one who owns me and the creator of everything. Those elders who see our sufferings, who see that the Fulanis are kidnapping us and collecting ransom, but choose not to support us, as you kill their children, kill their wives. So shall it be.”

Nigerian Military Invade Benue Community, Kill Over 30 Villagers, Set Ablaze Monarch Palace, 200 Houses

At least 50 unarmed civilians have been allegedly killed by military men in Shangev-Tiev, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State following reports that two soldiers were missing in the community, multiple sources told SaharaReporters on Thursday.

SaharaReporters gathered that the soldiers went missing during a routine patrol in the community days after a communal crisis between towns in Konshisha and Oju LGAs.

According to reports, three soldiers were initially missing but one of them was later found.

It was learnt that troops of the Operation Whirl-Stroke (OPWS) on Wednesday and Thursday morning invaded the community.

The operation, which involved deployment of military helicopters using missile launchers, left scores of unarmed civilians dead and property said to worth billions of naira destroyed.

About 200 houses including the palace of Tyoor Unaha Kôkô in Agidi and several cars in village, which is now deserted were set ablaze by the soldiers.

Narrating the dastard act to SaharaReporters, a youth leader said, “We have lost over 50 unarmed civilians, more than five of my family members have been killed by the Nigerian Army. There are no bandits in Shangev-Tiev, a military General in Makurdi is using the Army to support his tribe in an age-long war over boundary demarcation.

“For over 3 days now, unarmed civilians have come under Nigeria military attack non-stop. Fulanis controlling the Armed Forces of Nigeria are assisting their numerous footsoldiers mobilised by Miyetti Allah in terrorising the civilians.

“They keep killing and destroying properties. How can you use fighter jet on harmless and armless citizens while negotiating ransom with bandit and terrorists?

“As we talk now, most residents have deserted their homes and are taking refuge at Tse- Agbaragba.”

Another resident asked the government to redeploy the soldiers ravaging the community to the various highways where the Boko Haram and herdsmen are presently terrorising and killing Nigerians.

He said, “Its quite sad amidst insecurity in other parts of Benue, Konshisha will be targeted by security personnels. My village has been reduced to ashes for no reason. This is not a Boko Haram. There is massive destruction and killing spree going on. The aged, women and children are not left out, among those killed and displaced. What human sense would warrant such attack and destruction?

“For days now, our people have been under flames, displaced and are massacred.“

Another resident said, “My grandfather's house is in ruins, I hear. 2001, the Army burnt my fathers village and murdered my people. 20 years later, the Army is burning down my mothers home. 20 years after Zaki Biam, the Army has returned to Benue in the same fashion. This is not the way to go.”

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom has pledged to return peace to Konshisha and Oju while briefing journalists after an expanded Security Council Meeting with stakeholders from the two local government areas.

Ortom, who reiterated the need for Benue people to support security agents deployed to end crisis in their areas, admonished the people against attacks on security agents, which would make the situation extremely difficult to contain.

He explained that as part of measures to nip the land dispute between Konshisha and Oju in the bud, it was agreed that the boundary be demarcated and a day was fixed for the exercise.

According to the governor, a few days to the agreed date, crisis erupted again and security agents were deployed to control its escalation when the troops sent to Konshisha came under attack with two military personnel still missing.

Ortom condemned the practice of some communities engaging militia to fight their neighbours. He, however, vowed that such merchants of violence would be made to face the consequences of their actions.

PoliticsGunmen Attack Asere, Ondo Community, Burn 14 Houses by Ezeama400(op): 5:35pm On Apr 08, 2021
Gunmen suspected to be terrorising waterways in the Ese-Odo local government area of Ondo State, have allegedly razed 14 houses in a midnight attack on the Asere riverine community.

According to a report by Nation newspaper, the gunmen attacked the community for tipping off security agencies about their activities and movement.

Women in the community protested the attack, calling for the arrest of gang members.

The protesting women said the attackers were known members of the community who got annoyed because the Joint Task Force clamped down on them.

They identified the suspected gang members as Kutu Mone aka MK; July Mone; Best Oniwei; Iyemiyelawei Mone; Mathew Suku Polobubou; Dedewei Mone and Bado Ogbudugbudu.

The protesters said the gang had been operating in the riverine area freely until security operatives started arresting them.

One of the protesters, Faith said the ringleader, Kutu Mone, who hails from Asere, invaded the community because he felt his people were giving security men information about their activities.

She said: “We saw fire burst out of our houses. We didn’t know what was happening. We all ran into the bush all through the night till security men came to our rescue.”

Paramount ruler of Agadagba Kingdom, Oba Zachueus Doubra, said he received a report that one of his subjects, whom he described as a ‘recalcitrant boy’ invaded Asere to burn down the community.

“I sent my chiefs and some police officers to the community and I was informed that 14 houses were burnt down, nine other houses vandalised. Many were rendered homeless. Many ran into the bush in pants, some in knickers.

“I want to appeal to all the three tiers of government and all relevant agencies to come to the aid of the victims by way of relief materials,” he said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo Police command, Tee-Leo Ikoro, said: “We want to assure the people of the area that police are on top of the situation. The people should go back to their normal businesses.

“Our men have taken over the area and with no time, MK and his gang would be arrested and be prosecuted as well.”

CrimeSuspected Herdsmen Attack 3 Farmers In Ekiti, As They Struggle To Survive by Ezeama400(op): 4:36pm On Apr 06, 2021
No fewer than three people sustained injuries as suspected killer Fulani herdsmen attacked farmers in Irele Ekiti Farm Settlement in Ekiti State on Tuesday.

A source told SaharaReporters that the armed Fulani herders numbering six unleashed terror on the farmers and stole their money.

“I have news from my home town, Irele Ekiti concerning Fulani herdsmen.

“Six of the Fulanis, who are known to the victims, unleashed terror on them in their Irele Ekiti Farm Settlement and carted away their money.

“Three people, who were severely injured, are receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital, Ikole Ekiti,” the source narrated.

This comes exactly a month after two farmers were killed in Isaba Ekiti, in Ikole Local Government Area of the state by suspected herders.

Prior to the attack last month, two herdsmen were sent to prison in Ondo State for killing a farmer.

The Ekiti victims were killed by armed men following a disagreement which ensued with herders on the farm on March 6.

It was gathered that one of the victims was a man popularly called Jisoro in the town, while the other one served as a security guard at a construction company.

The suspects were said to have fled the scene of the incident after killing the victims.

Alake Of Egbaland Tackles Igboho, Others, Warns Against Calls For Nigeria's Breakup

The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has appealed to those calling for Nigeria's secession to shelve the idea.

The monarch warned that those beating the drum of war in Nigeria are calling for chaos in the country and in Africa at large.

Oba Gbadebo spoke when he played host to the National President of the National Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Musa Maitakobi, the Chairman of RTEAN in Ogun State, Titilayo Akibu, and other members of the association in his palace in Ake, Abeokuta.

The visit was part of activities marking the first anniversary of Akibu as the state chairman of RTEAN in Ogun state.

Alake's statement was against the declaration of Yoruba nation and South-West secession from Nigeria by a Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho.

The monarch said Nigeria could not afford to go through another civil war, stressing that no country in the world will be willing to have over 250 million Nigerians as refugees.

The monarch said Nigerians, irrespective of their tribe, political or religious afflictions, must work together for the country's greater good.

Alake said if Nigeria fails as a country, the entire black race has failed, insisting that Nigeria is better as one united nation than breaking up.

He said in a report by Punch, "Nigerians, wherever we go in Nigeria, we must see ourselves as nationals of the same country, people of the same blood.

"We must work together to make Nigeria great because we must not fail, Nigeria must not fail, if Nigeria fails, the black race has failed and may it never happened.

"Where will over 250 million people go to? If they enter the next country, we will eat all their foods within two days; there will be no food for anybody in that place again. That is why we must remain where we are and make Nigeria work and work well."

PoliticsGunmen Open Fire On Benue Man, Abduct Security Guard In Oyo by Ezeama400(op): 2:38pm On Mar 20, 2021
The Oyo State Police Command on Saturday confirmed a farm customer and an indigene of Benue State was killed at a farm in Fiditi, Afijio Local Government Area of the State on Wednesday when some gunmen numbering about seven invaded the farm.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the attack in a phone conversation with SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters learnt that the farm customer was shot dead when the gunmen stormed the farm. A security guard on the farm, identified as Felix, an indigene of Plateau State, was abducted.

It was gathered that the security guard later escaped from his abductor in the early hours of Thursday.

A source in the farm said the gunmen arrived at the farm when the workers were closing from work. He said out of the seven abductors, five were armed with AK-47 rifles and other guns.

He said, "They arrived in search of victims to kidnap, with one of them targeting the farm manager, Mr Adelakun Sunday, as he was about leaving his office. Mr Sunday quickly retreated to his office, locked the door, ran to his toilet and climbed up the ceiling to hide.

"After the whole struggle, three expended shells of AK-47 rifle bullets and one empty cartridge shell were found at the scene."

We’ve Commissioned Hunters, OPC, Agbekoya To Secure South-West – Gani Adams

The Aare Ona Kakanfo, Iba Gani Adams has revealed that leaders of the South-West have brought all the relevant security outfits together to secure the region.

According to him, hunters, members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Agbekoya members have been mandated to ensure security of lives and property in the region.

Adams, who stated this when he paid a visit to Governor Seyi Makinde on Thursday, said their discussions centred on issues related to the security and economy of the South-West.

He said: “I met the governor of Ekiti State two days ago and now, I am meeting the Oyo State governor.

“It is very important that we interface on the prevailing issues within our region, especially that of security. What we are witnessing now is alien to our history. Yoruba nation has been in existence for more than 8,000 years, I mean the Western region.

“We had a fruitful meeting. I can tell you that we are on the same page that Oyo State and the entire South-West should be in peace and harmony.

“The issue of agriculture was also part of our discussion. The two governors have told me their own parts and strategies, especially on the basis of private initiative. I want to assure that we too will play our own part to bring investors to partner with them.

“We have more confidence to complement the effort of the community. We have brought all the relevant security outfits together; hunters, OPC members, Agbekoya members. We are bringing them together so that we can have effective security in our environment.”

Famous Yoruba Historian, Prof Banji Akintoye alongside freedom fighter Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho), had earlier declared the sovereignty of the Yoruba nation.

In a video circulating the social media, Akintoye and Igboho, along with some Yoruba leaders stated that the Yoruba nation could be independent and yet, thrive.

Professor Banji Akintoye said the most important thing for the Yoruba nation is to learn to work towards its sovereignty.

According to him, this is not a time to discuss issues surrounding restructuring, resource control or a new constitution but rather to secede from Nigeria.

“We have declared that sovereignty now but we must work together. We have just talked about what the Yoruba nation is suffering from in Nigeria. There should be no reason why we cannot all work together to extricate ourselves from this rubble that Nigeria has become."

Igboho, who also spoke at the conference, said the South-West states were no longer under Nigeria.

In the video, he encouraged Yoruba people living in other parts of the country to return to the South-West region.

Igboho said the Yoruba kingdom was united in the latest agitation, and had the backing of all its traditional leaders. He challenged any Yoruba ruler who did not support him to openly refute his claims.

He said, “All the Yoruba youths in this land support our father (Banji Akintoye). We are in support because we know that these are our real fathers who understand that we are fighting for our rights against people that are disturbing us on our land. If we meet any Fulani herdsman, we are ready to face and destroy them starting from now. If any policeman attacks us for that, we are ready for them.”

PoliticsAmotekun Demand For Sophisticated Weapons As Herdsmen Killed 6 In Osun by Ezeama400(op):
No fewer than seven persons were killed, weekend, in Osun and Ekiti states by gunmen suspected to be bandit

Among the victims was a family of six reportedly killed when the gunmen stormed a farming settlement in Wasinmi village, Irewole local government area of Osun State, while the other was a passenger hit by stray bullets, as the gunmen fired at a moving commercial vehicle in Ekiti State.

Policemen, men of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, and Hunters Group of Nigeria were said to have been deployed in the bush in the area to fish out the killers.

Confirming the Osun attack, yesterday, in Osogbo, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, who spoke through his Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Yemisi Opalola, said the incident happened late Saturday night.

Olokode, who noted that police had commenced investigation into the incident, said the perpetrators of the evil act would be brought to justice.

The CP also disclosed that he had moved to the village with detectives to hunt down the perpetrators of the act.

He, however, said preliminary investigation ruled out a possible farmers/herders clash, adding that apart from launching manhunt for the suspects, police had begun discreet investigation into the circumstances behind the killings.

The CP appealed to the people of the state, particularly residents of Ikire and its environs not to panic but collaborate with the Police by giving timely information that would assist in arresting the culprits.

He described the incident as unfortunate and vowed that the police would apprehend the culprits to face the law.

In another attack in Ekiti State, a passenger was reportedly killed as gunmen shot at a commercial vehicle in transit between Ikere Ekiti and Iju, a border town in Ondo State.

The Ekiti PPRO, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident, yesterday, said that the driver of the commercial bus and the passengers ran to a police station in Ikere Ekiti and reported that while they were on their way from Ondo State, the gunmen came out of the bush and started shooting.

The driver was said to have increased his speed to escape the attack but unfortunately, a passenger was hit by a bullet in the process and later died at Ikere General Hospital.

While calling for calm, the state Commissioner of Police, Tunde Mobayo, assured that the command in the two states would collaborate effectively to nab the perpetrators.

The commissioner had earlier in the week, held a town hall security meeting with communities across the state.

Meanwhile, the commander of Ondo State Security outfit, codenamed Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, has urged governments to remove limitations to the crime bursting responsibility of the corps in the region by allowing it carry sophisticated weapons.

Adeleye, who made the plea, weekend, said criminals were at advantage over security agents in terms of weapons in the South-West.

Speaking in Akure, the commander said the agencies needed encouragement from government to be able to rid the states of the activities of criminally-minded elements.

“The agencies are looking forward to acquiring more state-of-the-art equipment to combat insecurity in the states. There’s need to procure modern equipment to confront criminals.

“Amotekun is doing well in terms of remuneration of officers and payment of salary but calls for more government support.

“The state governor has just approved the recruitment of additional personnel and in terms of personnel, we are okay.

“Though, we in Ondo State have equipment but we are asking for more funding, so we can buy state- of-the-art additional equipment to combat crimes in the state.

“The collaboration with other security agencies has been yielding results through the knowledge and familiarity of the terrain by Amotekun officials who understand their own environment.

“We have a very robust relationship, we share intelligence with the Civil Defence, the Police, the Army, the DSS and we do operations together.

“There are interiors they don’t have the knowledge of, and if they have anything to do there, we take them there since we have our personnel across the 18 local government areas of the state.

“When we get to terrible terrains like in the riverine area, we have specialists and personnel who can stay under the water for 24 hours and we are always with them in whatever operation that needed to be done.

“The regular Nigeria Police Force cannot do it alone. Other security agencies must step in to secure the country. The Amotekun Corps are making sacrifices and they are ready to work with the armed forces.”

PoliticsRe: Fulani Herdsmen Drove Us Away, Built Their Huts On Our Farmlands.. Ondo Farmers by Ezeama400(op): 6:37pm On Mar 07, 2021
Ezeama400:
It is tales of woe from farmers across Ondo State following the activities of herdsmen who have not only destroyed their sources of livelihood by their incessant attacks on their farmlands but also annoyingly raped their wives and daughters in their presence.

They lamented that they have consistently been victims of herders for the past five years, precisely since 2016.

The farmers from across the three senatorial districts of the state, almost in tears, narrated their nightmares to Sunday Vanguard.

Some of them claimed to have taken loans to put together their farms, saying everything went down the drains, no thanks to the rampaging activities of herders.

The Vice Chairman of the Ondo State Agricultural Commodities Association (OSACA), the umbrella body for farmers engaged in agricultural commodities in the state, Evans Shado, whose farm is located in lpe-Akoko, Ondo North, narrated, “My problem with herdsmen started in 2016. One day I received a call that my farm at Ipe-Akoko was under attack.

Loan

“I rushed down there and saw that everything was gone.

“But two of the herders who did it were later apprehended and taken to the police station.

“The attackers actually destroyed my 10 hectares oil palm field. The same thing was done to my farm when it was razed in 2018.

“In 2019, the association I belong to had a rice farm at Uso in Owo Local Government Area.

“I was the supervisor. We took a loan of about N10 million from the Federal Government. When it was time to harvest, these intruders came to destroy everything.

“We reported to government officials including the SSA to the Governor on Security, Alhaji Dojumo, and the Chairman of Miyetti Allah in the state, Alhaji Bello.

“The cows were arrested but they were later released while two of the herders who were apprehended are still in custody.

“The case is ongoing since 2019.

“With everything destroyed, the bank has been on our neck for us to pay back the loan. We took insurance people, CBN officials and everybody there to see things for themselves but they’re still asking us to pay back.

“But if such had happened in the North, I’m sure they would have reimbursed affected farmers to go back to enable them continue in business”.

In 2020, after they had put the sad incident of 2019 behind them, Shado said some of them went back to farm by borrowing more than N3 million.

“This time I farmed six hectares of rice. I was expecting millions of naira from the job I did. But when harvest time came, these people came again. They destroyed everything. We reported the case to Amotekun and they came and helped us. “They apprehended some of the attackers but only a meager amount was given to our group because we are so many.

“They gave us N1 million. How will that amount assist us on a farm we had spent millions of naira on?

“Just before January this year, my farm was attacked again. They uprooted all my cassava for their cows. On January 2, I took Amotekun operatives to my farm again. “Before you can go to the farm in my community in Ipe-Akoko, you’ve to go in the company of six to ten people because one might not come back alive if you decided to go alone.

“Formerly, I’m a disappointed, discouraged and an undeterred farmer but, now, I’m for revolution because, last year, I went to the SSA and told him I wanted to be a terrorist because only terrorists and bandits are respected in our nation.

“People respect terrorists more than innocent and law abiding citizens. They’ve destroyed this nation.

“I’ve three children in the university. Where do they want me to get money to educate my children who will be looking at me that I call myself a farmer and suffering while others are enjoying.

“So we are at war in this country. It is no longer peace, it is revolution. Revolution is spontaneous and I know it’ll start one day. “I’m a pastor but this time around, it is the prayers of the brethren that are sustaining me because I can do and undo. If you talk you will die, if you don’t talk you will die. “They have killed me while still living”.

Issues

Also speaking with Sunday Vanguard, Chief Ogah Michael, a native of Benue State who has his farm in Ore, Ondo South, said farmers in the area had been having issues with herdsmen for about four years now.

“At Ore, I’ve a farm in the forest where I cultivate a lot of cassava, pepper and maize but herders and their cattle have been disturbing on the farm”, Michael said.

“There was a certain period I reported them to the police and their head in the area known as ‘Seriki’ was invited where we all went to see the level of destruction on the farm.

“After the inspection, they told me that if I could catch at least one herder or a cow, the culprit will be made to pay for the damages but if I’m unable to catch any, there’s nothing they could do.

“But there was a time that a cow was caught with the aid of the police and little compensation was paid.

“But the compensation ended same day at the police station because of the demands of policemen.

“There was also a time that we were able to arrest one herder but on the way coming we had an accident and we were taken to hospital.

“Later the Fulani came and accused us of kidnapping their son

Akobo Oju Irin, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, sustained injuries when armed robbers invaded the area on Wednesday.

One of the landlords in the area, Mogaji Wale Oladoja, told SaharaReporters that on arrival, the robbers shot at his gate, demanding that he should open his door.

"They got to my house around 12:30am. They fired at my gate and wounded one of my neighbours. When they eventually broke my door, they asked me to come out but I pretended as if I was not inside. They spent more than one hour in my house alone. Though I have reported at the Akobo police station, I think it is time for the police to do more," he said.

One of the victims, Shade Oladejo, who was macheted several times by the robbers, is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital while four others who also sustained varying degrees of injury are medically stable.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the robbers arrived at the area around 12am and started shooting indiscriminately. They threatened to kill the first landlord in the street if he refused to open his door.

The source said, "When they arrived on our street, we initially thought it was the security guard that was shooting until we heard a voice asking our people to stay calm indoors. They held one of the landlord's sons and took him round the street to have access to other houses.

"We heard when they asked our neighbour, a prominent Mogaji in Ibadan, to open his doors, he didn't open it. A close neighbour to him was almost killed. Five people were affected but one of them was machete several times. He is now undergoing treatment. I pray he survives

PoliticsAgony As Herdsmen Overrun Ogun Communities by Ezeama400(op): 3:03pm On Feb 18, 2021
AGONY and sorrow enveloped Yewa axis of Ogun State as no fewer than 13 people were killed by hoodlums suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in different communities scattered across Yewaland in the last one week.

The gory incident started in Oha, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, as one Dele Olowoniyi was hacked to death by Fulani herdsmen in the mid-night of Saturday, 6th February, 2021 while receiving fresh air in front of his hut in a farm settlement located in Oha.

About two days later, two other persons were also killed in an ambush by people suspected to be herders at Owode-Ketu while going to market.

In Asa, three persons were killed, while four persons were killed at Ebute Igbooro and about nine other persons sustained varying degrees of injury from the mid-night attack.

At Agbon in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, three farmers were killed in another attack by the herders.

In Agbon-Ojodu, Orile Igbooro, property including houses, cars and motorcycles were destroyed.

Speaking on the sad incident, the Village head (Baale) of Orile Igbooro, Tajudeen Akorede, said four members of the community lost their lives, including children, to the suspected herdsmen while nine others are still in the hospital receiving treatment from injuries.

He said the attackers came in the dead of the night when everybody was asleep. “No, we just heard sounds of gun in the dead of the night. We didn’t know what to do. We were perplexed.

“In my community, the herders set some houses, vehicles and motorcycles ablaze. We cannot go to our farms again.”

He appealed to government to station security operatives in Orile Igbooro to enable the villagers who fled in the wake of the invasion, to come back.

Narrating how her husband (Olowoniyi) was killed, the widow, Rasheedat Olowoniyi said she was peeping through the curtains inside their hut and watched in disbelief as herdsmen macheted her husband to death.

She said: “I could not shout or raise alarm in order not to attract attention of the killer herdsmen to myself and my son.”

“The herdsmen stormed the farm settlement with guns and cutlasses on motorcycles.

“The herdsmen were 18 in number and stormed the farm at about 12am with six motorcycles and started shooting indiscriminately when they got to the farm in order to scare the people.

“We had slept that day but my husband decided to sleep outside. My son and I slept in the room. I was inside when they killed him. They first started shooting; it was the gunshots that woke me up. I opened the curtains slightly and I saw them. They came in six motorcycles and three people were on each motorcycle.

“He was dragged on the floor. They beamed torchlight around to see if anybody was watching but I dodged behind the curtains. I watched as they took his phone and wallet and tied to his waist and ransacked his pocket for money. They spoke Fulfulde. That was what made me know that they are Fulani.”

Rashidat said that her late husband had about two months ago complained to the Fulani community after some cattle reportedly ate his farm crops. She, however, said the Fulani community apologised to him, unknown to them that they planned to attack him later.

“He challenged the Fulani on why they allowed their cattle to eat his crops. He told them that his farm was not in the bush. They begged him and everything was settled. That was about two months ago,” she said.

Speaking on the incesant killings in his constituency, member of Ogun State House of Assembly, representing Yewa II State Constituency, Wahab Haruna Abiodun Egungbohun berated the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, on how he has been handling the security of lives and property of the people.

The lawmaker said the senseless killing by the Fulani herdsmen in Yewa area of the state is becoming unbearable as people in his constituency can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed.

He said on Thursday, some communities in Yewa North, that included Owode Ketu, Ijoun, Eggua, Igan-Alade and Tata were reportedly ambushed by the herdsmen and killed two villagers.

“On Friday night again, heavily armed men entered Orile-Igbooro village in Yewa North and no fewer than four villagers were killed, some houses were also burnt down while many people were left with various degrees of injuries. It is clear that these herdsmen are behind the attacks.”

Ketu Constituency II has often witnessed violent attacks stemming from disputes between the herdsmen and the farmers.

“Security is said to be a right of every citizen but reverse is the case in Ketu. We are not treated with fairness. Our farmers can’t go to farm, we can’t sleep with eyes closed. The Governor should empower other security agencies now,” he lamented.

“It is sad that no single herder has been arrested since security agencies have been fighting insecurity in my Constituency.

“It is sad that our people in villages in this part of the state have not been able to sleep since last night. Villagers are now outside, setting up bonfire and ready to defend their village.”

Addressing residents of the affected communities, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Abdulwaheed Odusile, appealed to them not to take law into their hands, but to allow the security agencies and the traditional rulers handle the situation.

He called for peaceful co-existence among the indigenes and people from other ethnic groups living in the state.

The Information Commissioner appreciated the royal fathers in Yewaland for dousing the tension that arose as a result of the attack from the herdsmen, calling for the sharing of necessary information that would lead to the end of the crisis, as the state government was poised to finding a permanent solution to the crisis in the state.

We need Amotekun in Ogun — Yewa monarch

Reacting to the senseless killings in his domain, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, called for immediate setting up of the Amotekun Corp in the state.

He urged government to involve traditional rulers in selecting its operatives who know their terrain.

He said: “I want to plead with the governor to commission the Amotekun Corp. When doing this, all critical stakeholders including the traditional rulers should be involved in recommending people who know the terrains. Round pegs should be put in round holes”, he advised.

The monarch also advocated for the inscription of owner’s name on each cattle, maintaining that this would help in identifying the owner in event of destruction of farm by cattle.

On his part, the Eselu of Iselu, Oba Ebenezer Akinyemi, traced the history of the crisis to cattle feeding on farmers’ produce and called for the creation of ‘grazing zone’.

On his part, the State Commissioner for Police, Edward Ajogun, noted that policemen have been deployed to the affected areas as government has given security agencies the wherewithal to bring peace to the areas.

PoliticsFulani Kidnappers In Ondo Use Generators , Play Music Inside The Forest by Ezeama400(op): 7:50am On Feb 16, 2021
A farmer in Ijugbere axis of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State who identified himself as Adedayo says Fulani herdsmen kidnapping in the area have generators and play music inside the forest where they hide their hostages.

Speaking to SaharaReporters on Monday, Adedayo condemned the killing of three farmers in the area during the weekend.

He said the herdsmen invaded their farm around 7 pm on Saturday and descended on the farmers, killing three while he and others ran away from the farm.

The farmer said the incident had created tension in the area with some residents fleeing the community.

He said, “When they kidnap, they bring people to the forest. Now, they have generators, play music in the forest. We are in a serious problem.

“People should take away politics from what is happening currently, they should just forget about politics, otherwise, we are in for serious trouble if nothing is done.”

Last month, Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of the state, issued a seven-day quit notice to the herdsmen operating illegally in the state’s forest reserves.

Apart from ejecting the herdsmen, the governor also banned underage grazing, night grazing, and movement of cattle within the cities and on highways.

The governor had said, "Today, we have taken major steps at addressing the root cause of kidnapping, in particular, and other nefarious activities detailed and documented in security reports, the press, and debriefings from victims of kidnap cases in Ondo State.

"As the chief law and security officer of the state, it is my constitutional obligation to do everything lawful to protect the lives and property of all residents of the state. In light of the foregoing, the following orders are hereby issued: All forest reserves in the state are to be vacated by herdsmen within the next seven days with effect from today, Monday, January 18, 2021."

The issue generated an uproar and after a meeting with different stakeholders, Akeredolu asked herdsmen to register with the government so that they can operate unhindered in the forest reserves.
